37 and 4 they checked me today I'm only a cm. I'm laughing because 10 weeks ago they were hoping I just made it to 32 from 27 weeks! Now I'm betting I'll go late just for a cosmic laugh to the Drs.

Haha, probably! 36 weeks I was "almost 1 cm" to which I thought sweet! 37 weeks "yea, about 1cm" alright, I'll take it. 38 weeks "a true 1 cm" ugh, no additional progress?! If I go tomorrow and still just 1 I may be a little annoyed. I know it doesn't necessarily mean anything, but progress is fun!
@erinh2005 Oh man, I'd be devastated! I really feel like waiting for pics until after baby is assessed is a really long time! Maybe you'll have an awesome nurse that won't care and will let your DH sneak them. As for the constant monitoring, it seems crazy to me they're saying it's mandatory. I couldn't do that! I'm really sorry about her response to your birth plan. I hope in the moment none of that matters, and maybe the nurses are more lenient (they run the show, right?) When things like that happen to me I just try to remember what's in my control-- you asked, she said no, at the end of that there's nothing you can do except try to accept it. Hang in there mama!
Oh, I'd be pretty upset too @erinh2005. I'm sorry you got such negative response to your requests! Hopefully the day-of they will be more flexible with some of these things as they really don't seem far-reaching.

I am also with an all female OB practice because I prefer a female provider myself. I am a medical provider in primary care myself and I would consider my male colleagues equally competent so it's not about that. I prefer someone who has potentially been through the process themselves. Not to say all female OBs have had a baby but in my case almost all of the providers in my group have their own children. It's just nice to know they completely understand what I am going through.
As for my husband who is also in medicine, he can see whom ever he likes! He currently sees a male PCP but I don't think he really cares. On a side note, as a male provider in psychiatry, he was telling me recently that the male patients actually prefer to see one of his female colleagues. I found that very interesting as he is an active duty Navy doc at a special operation command. I really thought those guys would prefer to see another male to discuss psych issues but apparently not!
I've never cared about male vs female doctors--my very first pelvic when I was a teenager was with a male dr and I was vaguely horrified but forced myself to get over it because I figured I'd have to deal with it in the future--I'm glad it's actually common to be able to choose, and for those of you who specifically asked for one I think it's unfair to spring the other on you.
I've had great and terrible practitioners of both sexes. If a male dr is a jerk I get super mad because "whatever you patriarchal jackass you have no idea," and if a female dr is a jerk I get super mad because "whatever you betrayer of the cause we are supposed to band together in wymynhood," so I guess I'll always find a reason to get super judgmental no matter what, ha.
Anyway, I had a (male dr) routine appt today at 38+3 and was running late and had had a crazy day so my blood pressure was bonkers. Luckily they let me retake it 10 minutes later and it had dropped way down (systolic 143 to 107) so don't hesitate to ask for a retake! Otherwise all is good with no progress whatsoever--this baby is still pretty high! My to-do list is so long that I'm happy for her to take her time, though. He said they'll induce on the 15th if no baby by then!
@cato99 my OB was teaching the other day and decided that he was going to quiz patients as well, so he asked me to explain how to perform a GBS swab, he wouldn't retake my blood pressure after that, embarrassingly out of the blue question lol

@cato99 same situation here. Just had an appt at 38+2 with no signs of progress. So I had to schedule an induction date for 41 weeks. This little lady will be here by May 17th whether she's ready or not! My only complaint about male obs so far regards cervical checks... for some reason mine have just been a lot more uncomfortable with male Drs.
Just back from this weeks appointment with not such great news. Baby is still breech and fluids have dropped from 7 to 6 from last week. Dr. is now ordering 2x a week ultrasounds with the MFM to keep a closer eye on the levels, if they reach critical (below 5) at any point we go straight to the hospital for a C-section. She told me to expect meeting the little man at any point from Monday, I really really hope fluids stay ok so he can keep in there for just a bit longer. I looked at my husband and was like - we need to get some stuff ready by Monday!!! I was banking on those last 4 weeks! Still need a car seat and I guess it's time to prep a hospital bag!
@MTB16: I'm so sorry that you have to deal with the scariness and uncertainty of low fluid levels. That's got to be stressful! It's a really good sign though that your doc will be more closely monitoring the situation; I also just had a bunch of weeks of twice-weekly appts and (even though getting there and hearing the status quo was kind of a hassle) having those extra u/s gave me some peace of mind. I hope you find they do for you too!
P.S. As long as you have a carseat, safe sleep space, some baby clothes, some diapers, and maybe a packed hospital bag, you'll be in great shape. Focus on the basics and you'll be good!
Had my appt today. I'm 39w2d. No cervical progress yet but baby is head down and ready to go. Today is my last day of work so anytime next week would be great.
@MTB16 Sorry you didn't get great news at your appt. FX your levels stay the same.
Just had my last OB appt. I practically skipped out of the office. Tested positive for GBS. Otherwise, everything looking good. Still on for c-section Thursday. Installing the car seat this weekend and hopefully get as much sleep as possible of the next week.
@jayandaplus@mspacman34 that's great! My doc guessed between 6 & 7 lbs at my 36 week appointment. As time passes I'm praying he doesn't somehow balloon to 10 lbs and thinking "please stay a manageable size!"
@sweaterboots I'm right there with you! I had a moment of panic when I thought about how much bigger baby can get!.I told DH about it and he is all like "Ya, go for the drugs girl." :-/
I had a regular 36 week appointment today, which turned into a scary situation. My doctor checked baby's heartbeat with the Doppler, but the heartbeat was really low. He suggested an NST and those results were concerning as well. So I went over to L&D where they hooked me up to monitors and did an ultrasound. Thankfully everything checked out fine and baby looked great on the ultrasound and the heartbeat was perfect the entire time I was there. I started having contractions when I was there that were 3-4 minutes apart. The contractions weren't super painful, but I definitely felt them. After 3 hours in the hospital they decided to send me home because baby looked great and if I was in labor my doctor wanted me to labor at home for a while. I got home around 6 and have only felt a couple contractions since. Hopefully baby decides to stay put for another couple weeks! Being as this is my first pregnancy though I got really scared when the heartbeat was low. I'm very thankful everything is ok.
@luckywife10: That sounds scary!! All those unknowns can bring up such crazy thoughts and feelings, and sitting in L&D is like a time standstill. Glad you were able to come home! FX for a worry-free next few weeks for you.
I'm going for my 37 week appt this Thursday. My OB is doing a position and cervical check. I think baby is head down but it's so hard to tell. I have been having so many painful contractions I am nervous he is going to make an early appearance. My grandmother is not coming for another 2 weeks to help with DS so I really want this baby to stay put! Running around a clinic seeing patients everyday is not helping my situation!
