Movement or gas, that is the question!

When is the earliest you've felt movement? This is my 2nd pregnancy. With my first I had anterior placenta and didn't feel movements until right around 20weeks. I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow and I'm convinced that I've felt this little one more than once. Am I going crazy? Wishful thinking? It's too earlier right?

Re: Movement or gas, that is the question!

  • I had an anterior placenta the 1st time and I think I was 17-18 weeks when I felt movement. I'm 13+2 and I thought I felt something the other night but haven't felt it again so I'm not sure. I hear such a range of "normal" for this though.

  • I didn't feel my son for sure until about 20 weeks. Before that it was flutters that I assumed were him. Basically what I am saying is I have no idea so maybe.

  • @BayCamp I just googled and they said it is normal to feel around 13weeks especially if you're a 2nd time Mom. Wow! This pregnancy has been so different from my first, I didn't imagine I would feel the baby so soon.
  • Elizabeth (mobile won't let me tag you for some reason) but yes it's definitely no outside movement or anything lol. Just subtle flutters and movements that I feel.
  • @AmberG34  i'm so jealous if you are feeling movement already! I can't wait until I can feel baby move! I'm just thinking all the gas bubbles I feel are really baby ;) but a girl can dream right?
  • I've never felt "flutters" with my babies.  But at 15 weeks, with all 3, I had a distinct feeling in my lower abdomen like a pencil eraser was poking at me from the inside:)

  • With my first I was 16 weeks when I was SURE she was kicking, 20 weeks when I felt her from the outside. I felt flutters for a few weeks before that and Google had convinced me it was just gas. Until I knew it wasn't  :)
  • I will probably sound like the crazy lady but I am pretty sure I felt flutters starting at 10 weeks with this one. With my son (second child) I was pretty sure I was feeling flutters around 11 weeks and I felt one right before the NT scan. He was right where I felt it when the did the scan. Could have been coincidence, but I don't think so.

  • I haven't felt flutters yet, but I'm pretty sure I've felt the baby flip a few times. That sensation is completely different than gas bubbles. It might've been something else, but who knows! This baby is just as active already as DD, and home girl can't sit still to save her life.

  • I have had two times in the past two days that have felt like something flipping totally around and not followed by gas. It's a totally different sensation. I was shocked because I am 11-2 right now and I felt nothing with my son until at least 16 weeks and that was very similar to what I'm feeling now. I didn't REALLY for sure feel my son until like 21 weeks (anterior placenta) and felt him outside at 24 weeks.
  • I'm 14 weeks and without a doubt felt movement at 13. One day it was crazy and now it's just super occasional. I had an anterior placenta with my first and didn't feel flutters until 20 weeks.  I have an anterior placenta again so I was shocked but dr said it was possible
  • With DD I felt what felt like butterfly flutters around 14-15 weeks but it wasn't consistent until 17 weeks.
  • I think I felt it last night while laying in bed.  I thought maybe it was gas, but I wasn't gassy.  I guess I'll know as the days go by.

DS1 is 7.  DD is 1.  DS2 is coming in late April.

  • With my son I had no idea I was feeling anything until I saw him kicking on the 18w anatomy scan and realized I could feel it.

I didnt think it was gas or flutters or anything. I just didn't notice!

  • Definitely flutters tonight. I've not kept food down all day so it's pretty empty in my abdomen, definitely noticing movement with patterns in the same spot
  • Congrats to all of you feeling flutters! I can't wait! I'm only 10w 4d and I know for sure, I'm just feeling gas. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

The early ones have usually been in the car for me too, but for me I think it's because of the extra counter pressure in my lower abdomen from the seat belt.

  • Twice I have had a feeling like I've gone over a hill too fast or like I am on a roller coaster.  That feeling where you sort of lose your stomach.  I wonder if that is baby flipping or something?  I had an anterior placenta with DS so I didn't feel anything until 22 weeks.
  • I am 100% sure I feel this baby. It's insane as I'm barely 12 weeks but this does not feel like gas. I know what gas feels like and this is nothing like it. It's like having a butterfly in the stomach. I did not feel baby 1 until like 5-6 months so this is surreal.
  • @av2323 that's how I would describe the flipping, too.

  • No question about baby movement now. Definitely baby and it's doing some acrobatics in there. I want to sleep but it feels so cool!

My friend is 19w and I felt her baby kicking twice tonight...and cried a little. I can't wait until DH can feel the baby. He keeps asking and I told him I'm barely feeling anything so he definitely won't yet.

Think I've started feeling baby which seems early...I'm almost 11.5 weeks. Kept thinking it was gas but it feels different. I would describe it as feeling like someone is blowing bubbles in milk with a straw. It's not crazy movement but a little tickly when it happens. I've noticed it the past two days.

  • I've been feeling the odd flutter for the past 5 days or so. I'm 11 weeks today. This is my 3rd pregnancy though so I know what to look for and it's twins, so double the arms and legs swinging around in there lol. I've only felt it after I've had a French vanilla cappuccino or an ice cold drink lol

  • I'm pretty sure I felt flutters last night! I am 13 weeks and this is baby number two. Can't wait for strong kicks and hiccups (yes, even the sharp downward kicks)!

  • Okay, this morning at around 6 I could swear I felt the baby moving. I am just barely 11 weeks so I could hardly believe it. It only happened once so maybe it was something else, although I know it definitely wasn't gas. So crazy! I felt flutters for about 15 seconds. I'm not sure I believe it!

  • Btw the tech laughed at me today when I told her I felt movement. She said it's impossible this early. It's anything but the baby. She said it nicely so I don't think she was being rude or anything just trying to point me the fact. boo whatever I still think I felt it.

My OB said anything is possible lol who knows
  • Okay I felt the baby again last night and here's why I am 99% sure it really was the baby...
    1. I felt almost constant flutters for about 5 minutes. Gas doesn't last a long time like that (unless it's gas pain or something).
    2. I did have a couple of gas bubbles go through during that time and I could differentiate them from the baby flutters.
I feel like I need to justify it even to myself because I've never thought that I would really be able to feel a baby moving this early. But having been pregnant before I know that this is nothing I have ever felt except in pregnancy.

Agree! I felt flutters in the exact same spot 3 days in a row last week, while in my 11th week, while lying in bed. It's the same spot where the baby is, which I also knew and it was confirmed by the u/s. I'm a FTM but I didn't think that feeling where they are this soon was controversial to doctors! Though it hasn't been common for me and was very subtle, but pretty much undeniable after I felt it repeatedly.

  • I've been definitely feeling movement for the past few days. I can put pressure on the baby and he/she will move. Gas doesn't do that lol

Ok so obviously it's too early at 11+5 to be feeling a like solid kick, but wondering if I just felt a flip? It wasnt a flutter so much as a quick almost poke type feeling? It didn't hurt it just felt like pressure was applied to my uterus from the inside..?
  • av2323av2323 member
I thought I felt movement but mine was definitely gas.  Where I felt the flutter was much, much higher than where doc found the heartbeat yesterday.

I was feeling definite movement for the last week. Now the last 2 days I've not felt anything and my nausea has eased up. Really wishing I owned a Doppler right about now to put my mind at ease.

ETA: I'm sure everything is ok, I'm telling myself that as little as baby is right now it's easy to get lost in there and not be felt.
