@ooodalollly *TW* As someone who has experienced two losses, one of which was at a time when a close friend was pregnant, it hurt to hear about, but for me, I was still happy for her. I wanted her to feel that happiness, I was just jealous that I wasn't feeling it too. I know a lot of people say that text or email is better, but for me, she and I had a face to face talk. I cried, we hugged, I supported her, and she supported me and we're still friends. I think the text vs face to face decision should be based on how close you are with the person you are telling. Also, don't forget to acknowledge her feelings and if she says, "it's fine" or some other woman translation of "it's not fine", don't keep pushing with the conversation. It's been said, it's out there, and try to follow her lead as to where the conversation should go next.
I completely agree with @cmessamore. Personally I would prefer to have that conversation face to face, but my closest and dearest friend would prefer to have it over text or email so she could have time to process her feelings and formulate a response.
I'm going to see my brother today, they had a preemie back in January and I've literally not seen him since he was in the NICU and they live 15 minutes away. Up until now they weren't comfortable having DS around since he's around other kids a lot and the we're wary of germs. I get it but it still sucks because they have a 2yo as well and don't let her play with other kids because of germs and make their 7yo go through practically a decontamination process when coming home from school.
Buuuuuutttttt..... they take all the kids to Busch Gardens with SIL's family. I've been a little irritated with the whole thing.
I found out that I have to pay a $60 copay to go to my OB instead of $30 because it's a specialist. I don't know if it's all OB or just the specific office I'm going to. There's nothing I can do about it but I just wasn't expecting that.

I only pay a copay for the very first OB visit. Maybe yours will be the same!

It should just be one copay though. Like once in your pregnancy.

That would be nice if it was only once! I'm thinking further ahead when we get to bi-weekly and weekly appointments and thinking that's going to add up fast! Plus I have to figure out what the delivery will be. It's $300 copay for an ER visit!!!
@amber0529 that sucks! Unfortunately I would assume it's all OB and not just your office I have a high deductible plan that restarts in November so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get double whacked. Everything prior to delivery and then everything delivery and after. Sooooo crappy.
On my way to Minneapolis this am for a day trip! I can't wait until I can finish air travel for the year...oh wait that's in October.
Have fun! My husband is taking the kids to his parents tonight and I was thinking about going to Mall of America to do some shopping, eat Chipotle and gelato! I'll probably actually just stay on the couch, though.
Apparently carrying a boy makes you burn 10% more calories than if you are carrying a girl. Hence women tend to put on slightly more weight if carrying girls. I read it in a medical magazine waiting at the pharmacy for something. Interesting.
Heyyy everyone. Man I could use a nap today. I can't decide what to make for dinner.... everything is making me want to heave and it's making cooking difficult. My usual healthy eating has gone to absolute trash the past few weeks. Sad panda.
@amber0529 you have to pay a copay even though it's part of your prenatal care? I know I have a copay for a specialist but it doesn't apply if it's part of my prenatal care.
@ShePersisted We're team green but I'm convinced it's a boy. No m/s, good skin, hairy belly already, and I've lost 5 lbs (but again, no nausea or m/s) so maybe I am burning more calories. I guess in Nov we'll see if it's true
Any recommendations for maternity shapewear to smooth out my hips/thighs when I wear slim fit dresses? I love the LLR Julia or other slim fit t shirt type dresses. I think they look great in pregnancy but I'll self conscious of my thighs and jiggle, especially since the material is generally a bit thin (which will be nice for summer). I also hate that sound your thighs make when you're not wearing tights or something and you sit down into a chair fast and your thighs clap together. #thickthighprobs
@slaven I don't know if it is online but destination maternity and pea in the pod are two boutiques I went to and they had a ton of shspewear for pregnant women. They were great. Try it out online and see what you find. I think Gap maternity also had some tights which were decent quality that don't cause too much jiggle.
@slaven I have lost lb or two in the last couple weeks and I am having a boy ...so maybe boys make us burn more calories? I need to do some real research I think. haha
@KMRR86 tell me about it! I marinated a perfect looking skirt steak this morning hoping to grill it tonight and I just don't feel like entering the kitchen. It's just making me feel weird with all the smell of the marinade now.
@slaven I must be having a girl! Between gaining 5 pounds and the 188 heartbeat...I might as well just announce it now .
@amber0529 that stinks! I don't have a co-pay for OBGYN but insurance is telling me the lab they send my bloodwork to is out-of-network, so I have to pay that all in full until I reach my out-of-network deductible. Which is frustrating because I have already had to pay my in-network deductible...my doctor is in-network so I feel like whatever they do should be covered. I don't get it.
So, rock climbing while pregnant. Thoughts? My friend had to give up the puppy she literally just adopted because he had a condition and she and her H decided they couldn't give him what he needed and he deserved a better home. Her H is away this weekend and she wants to do things to take her mind off it, one of which is rock climbing. I assume I'll be fine especially since baby is still safely behind my pelvic bone. I kind of want to mention it to the instructors just in case they know of any extra safety measures.
@DuchessOfCambridge I've never done it...if you fall, and the harness has to "catch" you, how gentle is the catch? That would be my concern, as well as the possibility of belly banging into a rock. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they said no to pregnant women just to protect themselves from any liability.

They will definitely say no to someone in the first tri.
I dont think there's any real risk though. I've been climbing and can't see how it could possibly hurt baby this early.
@jess0211@liz4382@kissthesky32 thanks for your advice. They'll really say no? I'm so glad I asked instead of being turned away! I also don't see how it could hurt the baby right now.
@DuchessOfCambridge they will probably say no. They don't want any liability usually for things like that. They won't even let you ride the carousel at 6 flags if you're pregnant. Lol
I would recommend no to Rock climbing. My OB clearly told me anything that has a risk of fall no matter how safe or confident it's not worth it. Personally I would not do it. Even with a harness there is a possibility of human error.
@ugoglencoco@ShePersisted I ended up calling the climbing gym and they said they legally couldn't turn me away but to ask my dr. I'm going to call tomorrow but now after all your thoughts I'm thinking I'd rather just not..
@DuchessOfCambridge Have you been climbing before? If so, maybe just stick to climbs that aren't at the top of your skill level. If you haven't climbed before, the beginner routes and holds should be pretty easy and low risk. Also, auto belay options tend to be easy, the let down is gentle, and removes human error from belaying.
Haven't climbed in some years now, but I did zip line once while pregnant. The harness wasn't a problem.
@alparodi I have been before but it was definitely over a year ago. I have a pretty bad fear of heights so I usually get halfway up an easy route and then come back down because I've had enough of being off the ground haha. I would only be using the auto belays.
Ive decided I'll call my OB tomorrow and see what she says and if it's a yes I'll determine if I'm comfortable with it.
I was a climber before having my son and my OB then recommended against it. Auto-belay catches are more gentle but not all gyms have them (ours won't use them and actually got rid of grigris and only allows ATC's, which can make for a big fall/rough catch if your belayer wasn't paying enough attention)

@pawcall the gym I'm going to does have auto belays but I think I've decided after all the advice from you ladies, I don't want to chance it. I'll still call my OB tomorrow to check because I'm curious, but even if she says yes I'll probably tell my friends it was a no so I don't get pressure from them.
@BayCamp cute! Sorry, I am just checking in, I'll try to catch up on all the threads! We spent the day looking at daycares. We found one that is PERFECT but the wait list is ridiculous....but we went ahead and put a small ($75) deposit down to get on the wait list. We have a back-up that is 90% perfect and we also put $50 down on that one to hold our spot since they have a wait list but not for the time we need. I feel so much better now because either way we have an option. We had looked at one last week near our work (These two are near our home) and because we were panicked we held a spot there too, now wishing we hadn't. I didn't like it but it had openings and was super close to work. But I got a bad vibe and the price was almost twice the amount of the two we looked at today ($1900 a month compared to about $940). Feeling so much better after today. I was in a freakin' panic about daycare.
@mariposa_767s I definitely go to the chiro while pregnant! I just wait until the second tri. Not because I think that it would cause MC, but I worry that if I were to randomly have a MC, it would be hard for me not to wonder if it was due to the chiro. So I'll go again in a week or so. Mine is also specializing in prenatal, labor and post partum. And babies and children!
also, I am short and big chested too, so I definitely feel your pain!
