PGAL check-in 4/19

Re: PGAL check-in 4/19

  • How far along are you? 20  weeks and 4 days I believe (Wednesday is 21 weeks)

What's going on with you baby/pregnancy wise? Just found out it's a girl - very healthy, and very active. I'm finally maintaining weight with my year old gastric bypass (finally the OBs were mad but my gastric surgeon said it was normal) and my blood pressure is still low but normal. Dizzy, faint feeling, and light headed occasionally. But excited to finally start shopping for little girl things. They're adorable. (my previous loss was a boy at 11 weeks).

What's going on with you in other aspects of your life? Not too much, very focused on the pregnancy. Looking into various supports for after giving birth (throughout our community).

Any Questions? I'm unsure how to phrase if I'm a first time mom or not (?)  I am in the regards that I have no living children and never gave birth to a living child. But I feel I was a mom before with my previous miscarriage. So idk how to say that.
I do usually mention my previous loss if someone asks me if I have other children. It makes them feel uncomfortable
but it's more important for me to honor his memory,  than to keep them feeling comfortable.
I say "This will be our first child but I had a previous loss/miscarriage 6 years ago" or something of the like.  I'm not sure that's correct but maybe it's a subjective thing, up to each person how they want to say it or not say it.

Baby related GTKY:  Do you have child care lined up for your little one already?  Yes, family and friends at the moment. We looked into some other options just in case too.

NBR GTKY: Do you like cake or pie better? What is your favorite kind? Pie - I love lemon meringue and key lime. Also traditional pies like apple a la mode, or other fruit. Chocolate is good too but now I'm getting hungry thinking about it lol so I'll stop there.

What's going on with you baby/pregnancy wise? I think the baby's okay, my anatomy scan is in a week, so I'm hoping everything is okay.

What's going on with you in other aspects of your life?
I'm a teacher and we have state testing continuing this week,  ugh.

Any Questions? Anyone else feeling like they're about to start their period? It's freaking me out.

Baby related GTKY:  Do you have child care lined up for your little one already?
My parents generously watch my son on Mondays and Fridays, and my husband's family on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

NBR GTKY: Do you like cake or pie better? What is your favorite kind? Pie! Mmmmmm!
  • @seapb I definitely think it's personal preference. I know some people like to keep their loss(es) private and that's healthy for them. I tend to decide in the situation based on the person. Sometimes I don't bring it up, much of the time I do. We've been quite public with our loss though (starting 3 months after the fact, not right away.) i dont think theres a right or wrong way to do it.

  • @Texafornian So happy to hear from you!  And so kind of you to pop in and give some sweet, helpful, caring advice!  Hoping your daughter recovers fully from her stomach bug and that she stays healthy!!

What's going on with you baby/pregnancy wise? I have had a lot of anxiety recently. I have a month in between appointment and I am at the point where most of my symptoms have gone away and I don't feel movement yet. So my pgal brain has been a roller coaster. I have an appointment this Thursday which will help. I always get nervous the day before. I am hoping they will schedule my as then too.

What's going on with you in other aspects of your life?   Lots and lots of work. Resumed doing my second job this month. I do risk assessment reports. So part of it was getting back in to the flow of doing that after hours and trying to pace myself to get it done by the deadline. Now that I am done with that one and waiting for the next one I am trying more self care.   So sorry I have not been more active the last couple of weeks. I have been lurking to see how you ladies have been doing.

    Any Questions? Not right now.

My mom is going to watch this little one. She is retired and super excited. She lives five minutes from where I work so I can see the baby on lunch breaks.

NBR GTKY: Do you like cake or pie better? What is your favorite kind? Man that is such a hard choice. Cake. I love chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting
  • @Texafornian <3<3<3 hope you are well!!!
  • I think my 2 year old might have fifths disease, were about to take him to urgent care, but I'm really freaking out that I might have caught it and passed it to my baby.
  • @heatherwilson321 A kid at my son's daycare has it (another classroom though). The Dr said it's rare it gets passed on and at this stage of pregnancy it's rare that it would affect baby. I think the closer you are to 20 weeks the less chance of complications. Fingers crossed it's something else and that you don't have to worry! Keep us posted!

  • @MyNamesTaken Thanks, we just got in line for the urgent care, and it's an hour and a half wait, so hopefully we find something out.
  • We pretty much found out nothing, the doctor isn't sure what it is, it could be fifths, it could be something else. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow to see if they can do bloodwork to see if I've been exposed to it.
  • @heatherwilson321 That's so scary! Fx you get answers quickly and that everyone is ok!

Well, that's frustrating. FX it isn't fifths, but I have heard at this point in pregnancy it isn't such a big scary risk.

  • @heatherwilson321 that is so frustrating that they did not give you answers. Fingers crossed there is no exposure
  • Thanks guys, I'm getting bloodwork done tomorrow afternoon, but that morning I have to administer state testing, which means 3 hours of silence to be alone with my anxious thoughts. Oh man, I can't wait till state testing is over.
  • @mrs_tacos Sounds like you're getting great care! Glad things are looking positive but sorry you're going through this  <3

  • My phone rang and my Drs office came up on the call ID. Since we just had the AS, I was paranoid it was bad news from that. Turns out my blood test came back and I'm immune to fifth disease.

@heatherwilson321 Hope you get similar news soon!
    Yay that's great news!

  • @mrs_tacos I'm glad they're taking great care of you! +1 on the marginal cord. They'll monitor for growth restrictions but my doctor wasn't very concerned either. I have ultrasounds every 4 weeks for 2 months,  then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks and then every week.

@LaceyC1020 Thanks! And from what I'm hearing everyone else with a marginal cord is being told about what I was told as far as monitoring and severity goes, which makes me feel better. I was told to be a little extra cautious because if my anterior placenta, but otherwise they seemed to not be too concerned.
