We're going to my (Florida) hometown tomorrow and I'm so excited! My dad is down there visiting from my Ohio hometown (divorced parents/2 hometowns) and I've had this major craving for this one restaurant on the pier. It's a 3 hour round trip so we just haven't been since I've been pregnant. Also, excited to spend the day with my dad and take DS to the beach!
I'm so excited to get my nails done this week and I'm going with another milspouse that I don't know very well but every time we see each other we have good conversations and just a good time in general. And DH didn't have to go away for work this week so score!
@BayCamp I've had this craving for Olive Garden salad and a good old backyard BBQ which doesn't seem like a big deal but there aren't any here and we live in a tiny city apartment so no grilling for us.
@slaven I just got mine done today. I felt like heaven as I asked for a 20 min foot rub. Now I'm dying to color my hair but I'll wait another few weeks to do that. It's up to my waist and kind of unmanageable and looks shabby with the roots grow out. I've never gone this long without touching up my hair.
Also - anyone following any special facial routines? I want to get a facial real bad too but kinda get a little paranoid when I don't know all the stuff they exactly are using. But I desperately need that too.
@ShePersisted I got a facial early on with my acupuncturist (she does various traditional Korean medicines/techniques). It used traditional Korean herbs and she said it was safe for pregnancy. I had an intense resurfacing facial done before my BFP and this was the follow up facial to promote cell regeneration. I had already paid for it too so I just went with it. I would suggest going to a nice spa with good qualifications or maybe even a dermatologist if you can. My old hair salon used to offer some facials but I wouldn't trust them with knowing what is safe during pregnancy and what isn't.
eta My acupuncturist is affiliated with a university hospital too, not just some random place on the street. There are those back alley places here.
I wish I could take as much time as I needed off of work while pregnant. Already had to dig into my FLMA because of my horrible morning sickness! Ugh hopefully it goes away soon so I can save my time.
Same @baby3forme . Today is my first day back after 2 weeks and I'm so scared it's going to set me back to feeling like crap. I'm a teacher so I don't want to get sick in front of the kids (my biggest fear)
@destinyd8 I get paid piece rate so I basically make nothing when I go when I'm sick. It makes it uber hard to get motivated. And they are really weird about how many "breaks" you take (going to the bathroom counts because you have to badge out) so that also makes me really want to stay home when I'm feeling ick.
I am also ready to get my hair done but will hold off as long as I can. But what is even worse is my eyebrows--does anyone know if eyebrow tinting falls under the same safety umbrella as hair dye? They use some kind of dye that only takes 1 minute and then they wipe it off. So I know it's different than what my hairdresser uses but I'm not sure how. I am desperate to get my brows done so I hope it's safe!!!
Has anyone ever gone to a chiro while pregnant? Also, any other big chested women here? I am fairly small but these things are not...and it kills my back, especially now that I have surpassed the biggest I was previously. I don't even know where to get bras anymore...
@mariposa_767s I'll be seeing my chiro regularly through pregnancy. I'm in agony waiting for my next appointment because something in my neck is out of alignment and it's just aching and radiating through my skull. I would pay good money for pregnancy safe ibuprofen
I know in a previous thread someone thought gifts for a reveal party were super tacky. I didn't know that was a thing, so I'm looking for opinions on how common that is. Do I need to say no gifts? Or is it still assumed that it's not a gift-bringing party? It's not like there will be any mention of a registry, so am I good to go?
@ArtificialRed I probably will say something cutesy like "No gifts are required, just your presence is desired" on the invitation. I'm the first of my friends to have a baby and most of them barely know wedding etiquette much less baby so I don't want them to stress and ask each other if they're supposed to bring a gift.

Ok maybe that was more venty than random...
Yes, I've seen both a regular chiro and one who specializes in prenatal chiropractic while pregnant in the past. I really felt like it helped. Unfortunately, after a back injury shortly after I gave birth, I don't feel comfortable continuing to go.

I've been bummed that my first official appointment with my new OB isn't until May 8th. However, I ordered a doppler and I was able to hear LO's heartbeat at 8w5d. I was shocked to say the least. DD heard the heartbeat this morning, and she has decided LO is a boy that should born on her birthday. Her birthday is mid-December, so that's not happening.

edit words are hard
I do not think you need to mention it. I've brought gifts to gender reveals because I wanted to, I did not assume they were expected.
don't include registry information in your invitations and don't make a big show of opening any gifts you do get. a "thank you so much" and opening it later works just fine.

@ArtificialRed I'll put no gifts on the invitation (if I end up having a reveal) because I really don't want people to bring gifts (I also put no gifts on the invitation to my DD's birthday party, and a few people still brought gifts--of course, that was a birthday). Do you have a lot of friends that have had gender reveals? I would say it kind of depends on where you are and who your friends are... I haven't been to any gender reveal parties since I've lived here, so I think it falls to me to be clear on what kind of a party it is. However, if it seems to be common where you are, maybe you don't need to explicitly tell people not to bring gifts.
Nov 17 BMB May Siggy Challenge: Mother's Day Fails
I have a few apps and honestly everything is so different from app to app.
I am 10 weeks +2.
Babycenter says it's a kumquat - a little over an inch or so long and just became a fetus.
Ovia agrees, it's a kumquat, but says it became a fetus at week 9.
TB says it's a strawberry, 1.2 inches and became a fetus at week 9.
A podcast I listen to says the baby can HEAR me now (basically everything else I've read says 2 more months for that) and is the size of a cotton ball (around 3cm).
The CRL on my ultrasound at 9w6d was 5.56cm - like 2 inches! So, what the heck?!

Agree--one of my apps says kumquat, another says strawberry, and yet another says Hershey's Kiss! Are all of these things supposed to be the same size??
Week 11's size has thrown me off - lime, fig, or brussel sprout. I know they vary in size, but I've never seen a brussel sprout even close to the size of a lime. Not even close! They're more like grape or strawberry at best.
@mariposa_767s I went to the chiropractor and acupuncturist with my last pregnancy because I was having so many health issues and so much pain in my hips. I'm hoping it doesn't come back. They were very good and helpful during the pregnancy.
@mariposa_767s I've gone to the chiropractor during pregnancy quite a bit. My first was breech at almost 38 weeks and the ECV didn't work, so I tried the chiro and he flipped! I went somewhat regularly in third tri as adjustments can help alignment in the pelvis and make birth a little more smooth. Who knows if it actually helped for me, but my 2nd and 3rd births were definitely easier.
@DuchessOfCambridge I'm going to pretend I never heard that Boss baby made more than beauty and the beast. How is that possible?
The parking lot outside of my work has smelled like watermelon every day for the last week. So strange, so enticing, and I've been craving watermelon like crazy. I have yet to find one that looks good yet though.
I bought a doppler and got it in the mail today. Took a little bit to get the right position, I kept getting my own pulse and that we got the little Houdini. Kept moving but yay, DD got to listen.
All the feels today. We went down to my hometown to see my dad and had a wonderful day. But we got home to find out one of his good friends that I've always considered an Uncle passed away this evening. Ugh. I'm ok, just really sad. My dad is devastated and that's killing me. Men crying always gets me, especially dads.
On the the subject of chiropractors: I love mine and I'll continue to go while pregnant. Mine specializes in prenatal and postpartum women. He even adjusted me while I was in active labor and greatly reduced my back labor. I have degenerative disc disease so regular adjustments really help with my headaches.
Since this seems like the post for stuff like this here it goes; My last appointment was Thursday(I think) anyway I'm almost at 13 weeks and at the appointment I got to hear my little ones heart beat! This is my first pregnancy and hear that wonderful sound and the doctor telling us it was a good strong heart beat has just made all the morning sickness worth it! My husband even recorded it so we could listen to it and share the moment with family, I wish I could share it with all you lovely ladies it such a wonderful sound and it puts some of my worries to rest. Anyways sorry for the long post I'm just so excited!
We finally scheduled our furniture pickup and all that for moving. I have to quit work a week earlier than planned but at least I found out today so that I could put in a real 2 week notice (my replacement is already hired though). We'll have to be in a hotel a few extra nights because the moving team was all booked up. The Army only pays for 10 days so we'll have to pay the extra 3 but at least I get double points on my Chase card (I think). Thankfully our pet sitter had openings/made room for our dogs because the hotel doesn't allow pets. I'm still going to be subbing pretty much until we leave but at least I won't be sitting in a hotel room without my pets, all by myself (DH will still have to work).
eta: just realized we'll be spending $330 for the pet sitter while we stay in the hotel. It's only $10 a night for our Maltese (under 5kg) but $20 a night for our Sheltie (over 10 kg). From 5-10 kg is $15 a night but our Sheltie is 11 kg. I joked with the petsitter about how maybe she'll lose a kg hoping that she'd just charge us $15 but she didn't bite. Told DH that we should have adopted the yorkie that didn't have heart worms....

@artificialred mine is my lower back as well as my neck. I will have to visit the chiro. I also ordered a new chair at work. Hoping that helps.
