Re: April IVF

  • cashewchicken I was really glad to read your update!  I know its so hard to make these hard choices especially when we're all not rolling in doe and have to pay OOP.  Its such a gamble every time!!  I went to my first ER with only showing 3 follies and it was so hard to cancel or not.  I hate that it even has to come into play.  Even this cycle choosing wasn't easy BUT last cycle had more showing and we see how well that turned out.  So ER is sat?  I go tomorrow funny we're all still on track together!

Momifbysea funny i just started lurking on that board.  I know exactly how you feel, try to remember it only take one!  Hopefully you've got some fighters on your hands!  Its unfortunate that sometimes our bodies play tricks on us.  Take some time to think about.  Are you planning on freezing and testing?  I'm right there with you.  Hoping these are your string fighters!!

brooklyngirl18 awesome report can't wait for your next update!!  Are you planning on freezing and testing as well??

AFM: ER is so early tomorrow too bad that just can't come and do it while i'm already sleeping ;)

  • @Hopeful_mom good luck on your ER tomorrow and thanks for your support!
  • @Momifbysea - I'm so sorry you're disappointed. try to stay optimistic (although i know how hard that is to do). This whole process is just so damn hard. And I relate to your situation with insurance. We are also dealing with a lifetime maximum.

@Hopeful_mom - gl with ER tomorrow!!

@cashewchicken - I'm glad to hear about your decision. I'm a big believer in trusting your instincts. AFM, no testing - see more below :) Good luck with trigger!

@brooklyngirl18 - That's superb news! A reason to celebrate indeed!

AFM, I received a day 2 fert report and out of the 13 normally fertilized, 10 have made it to day 2. although i was told that only 2 of those were 4 cell, the rest are lagging behind (2 cells). RE wants to do a 3 day transfer tomorrow instead of 5 day. This is all very worrisome to me but trying to keep my head up. I honestly just think the embies need a bit more time to grow - OH and I were both late bloomers, our embies are too most likely :) Focusing on that thought helps me not freak out about this news.
  • @Hopeful_mom GL tomorrow! Keep us posted!
    @brooklyngirl18 awesome news!!

AFM, day3 of stims and eeesh, crazy headaches this time. Crappy movies and I baked some almond horns today as a distraction on my day off.  This weekend I haveto plan what next week will look like.  DH is out of town for CD 8-11 and I'm going to have to manage work, farm duties, puppy daycare drop off and pickup, meals and house prep for the sister in law who arrives on CD12.

Any meal prep suggestions, ladies? Last time I did sheet pan chicken recipes every other day but getting home at 7pm every night will make that difficult without any help from hubs!
  • @Momifbysea, I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed, but I will cross my fingers for the best--hopefully they're of good quality! @hopefulmom and @cashewchicken, good luck with ER and the trigger! @brooklyngirl18, what terrific news, and @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake, I hope the transfer goes well.

AFM, today I had my 9-day u/s and blood work. I went to a different facility in my health care system to try and avoid the u/s tech I had last time, who started all my worrying. To my dismay, she was working at the different site, and when she checked me she said she only saw two and said she wouldn't be surprised if my cycle was canceled.

i felt so down after that, but my nurse called at the end of the day, and said I had one 18, one 17, and one 12 mm, and that they'll do one more check tomorrow morning, and I will likely trigger tomorrow night for a retrieval on Sunday!

so I don't know how many eggs to expect--maybe my other follies will still grow some--but she said at this point they will not cancel the cycle. Sunday is my 40th birthday, and I think my OH has a surprise planned, but nurse said I should celebrate Saturday instead, haha.

I know some of you have been in quite some pain after ER--does anyone have any advice? Also sounds like I should drink Gatorade and have salty food afterward? I hope my medical team gives advice on this soon....
  • @brooklyngirl18 congrats that is awesome news, a good number! How is your pain?

@cmiller73 omg I want some almond horns they sound delicious!

@sm05-2 thank you, I've been wrapping my head around my results the last few hours and of course am hoping for the best. Maybe they are the super strong ones? What a birthday present that would be! Happy 40th a bit early and enjoy as you can while on stims, lol. As for the pain, honestly, Tylenol took the edge off and it was just like bad period cramps, so totally tolerable.

@cmiller73 sounds like ur a busy bee, tell hubby he should have those meals prepped so all you have to do is pop them in the oven ;)  I hope you're feeling ok as the cycle continues.  I found my headaches and such would worsen as stemming continued.  At least stemming will fly by with everything you've got going on!

@sm05-2  happy almost birthday!  I had ER the day before my bday and then pretty much slept my bday away!!  Hopefully this will be a great bday gift for u! As for after the ER they suggest drinking lots of fluid!  It was on this site that I got the 411 on the gatorade and salty foods...my acupuncturist mentioned it as well.  My fruit punch gatorade is ready to go :)

I do have to say I'm actually happy no more shots tonight yay!!  I'm actually looking forward to hopefully sleeping tomorrow!  All this no sleep while stemming is kicking my ass!

@KLake42- Hope you are pregnant and not just farty!  Congrats on TWW, you'll find out soon. How exciting!

@Momifbysea- I'm sorry you didn't get as many as you'd hoped, but it only takes one and you got two going!

@brooklyngirl18- 23 fertilized is amazing!  Congrats!  Thanks for the coconut water tip.  My nurse recommended that, too.  I might grab a few in case I get sick of my homemade gatorade.

@artemis618- Tomorrow's my retrieval and I have a cheese craving as my after retrieval snack after reading your post!  High on protein and salty, right?

@Hopeful_mom- Actually, I'm triggering tomorrow, so we're on track together for sure!  Mine is at 10am so not as early as yours, but I agree on wanting the RE to do the procedure while I'm still sleeping.  I'm not a morning person.

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake- There's still time for the rest to catch up.  Some embryos take 6 days to reach blast.

@sm05-2- Happy 40th! Great that you're triggering on Sunday.  I also recommend celebrating your b-day on Saturday instead, and maybe you can celebrate again on your birthday with a drink! (You might want to check on that)  I've had 2 ER so far and they were quite different.  The first one left me quite crampy, but I still went out that night for a dinner with friends.  I felt bloated for 5 days afterwards and did not feel normal until a week later.  For the second ER, I wasn't as crampy but I stayed home and rested.  I felt just fine the next day.  I retrieved more the first ER, but maybe taking it easy helped the most.  As for diet, I just remembered to stay hydrated.

KLake42 listen to your body and take it easy for sure!!  You are PUPO and those are your beans saying mama i want to get all comfy cozy in there and you should be relaxed so they want to make home in there for good ;)  I was working on my feet the day after transfer and I didnt take a break for an hour but I tried to make my movements at a slower pace...then I said to hell with this I've been TTC for so long what the hell am I doing!  OH returned and we left!  It plays over in my head what an acupuncturist had said to me and the simple fact is, you want to get all comfy in a nice relaxed environment not a stressed frazzeled one.  Does it happen for others sure but not for the ones that have to go through all we do to get preggers...just thinking out loud.

cashewchicken I'm so NOT a morning person, only when i'm being paid to be one ;)

  • @Momifbysea I felt really pretty bad the day of the retrieval.. I just stayed in bed all day, and it really hurt to twist or pretty much move at all.  Make sure to stay hydrated, I drank like 4 bottles of gatorade each day!  I also took Tylenol, and took pretty much the maximum dose the first few days.. and boy could I tell when it was starting to wear off.  The day after retrieval was a little better, I could at least get up and move around - but I made sure to still take it easy.  By the third day I was a lot better, just a bit of pain here and there.. but nothing major.  I was surprised with how quick the recovery was, because the day of the retrieval I felt in pretty rough shape and had no clue how I was going to recover.  Keep your head up, you'll be feeling better in no time!  Hoping your recovery is as quick!  I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed with your numbers, do you plan to do a fresh or frozen transfer?  Is this your first IVF cycle? (Sorry if you already mentioned this stuff!)  2 different friends of mine went through this within the last year, and were in the same boat.. they each had 2 embryos to transfer, I'm not sure of the quality - I don't think they were super great, but both of these girls did a fresh transfer of the 2 embryos they had.. and *TW* one of the girls just gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and the other is pregnant, due in July!  Don't give up.. positive thoughts!  I know this whole process is emotionally draining though.. so I completely understand.

@cashewchicken  Fingers crossed for you, I have a good feeling.. that you are meant to continue!

@brooklyngirl18  Wow, 23 fertilized!  That is awesome.. very happy for you!

@Hopeful_mom  Good luck with your ER tomorrow!

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake  I hope the transfer goes well!

@sm05-2 Wow, what a great 40th Birthday gift :)  Have a great birthday, and fingers crossed for you!

@KLake42 Listen to your body and try to take it easy.  Try not to feel guilty about cancelling plans.. sounds like you could use the time to relax!

AFM - I started the progesterone oil tonight - it was pretty funny actually.  I did all of my own shots before, as my husband worked nights over the winter.  He just switched back to the day shift, which was perfect timing because I'm not sure I could do these shots by myself.  He was really nervous.. and it took him probably a full 5 minutes to finally go for the plunge!  He kept saying 'Are you sure this whole needle has to go in?'  and 'I'm afraid to hurt you'.  He's usually a pretty tough guy, so it was funny to me to hear him.. But anyway, glad night #1 of the oil is over.. here's to many more!  Overall it wasn't as bad as I was expecting though, we will see how it feels tomorrow!  FET is Tuesday!  Getting excited and nervous now!
  • Also I just wanted to comment that it is funny how many of us have recently gone through an ER right near our Birthdays!  My ER was April 1, and Birthday was April 3rd.  When my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday my response was pretty easy - 'for all of this to go well!'  Hoping the same for you ladies too!
  • kiwisun4385 - I'm with you there as far as your post ER report. Honestly, the ER was the worst part of this entire process for me. I'd have injections or side effects over that any day of the week. I'm not trying to frighten you, @Momifbysea, but I wish I were just a bit more prepared mentally for the pain. I figured that since my cycle was going so well (no med changes, good # of follies) that my ER would be a breeze. HA! Idk if the larger the # of eggs they retrieve the more uncomfortable it is or what. But I spent the entire afternoon in tears from the pain. I'm still hurting, not as bad, just very sore. (my ER was on Tuesday)
  • @kiwisun4385 My husband was the same way! He was so dramatic, saying things like "this needle is a foot long!" and "jeez it's going to come out the other side!" Pretty ridiculous.

Also...the bruises. I have a nice sized hematoma on the right.  :#

  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake actually my pain is totally minor today on day 3, so I'm relieved. I have a bit of nausea but maybe nerves for getting that day 5 report, who knows. Good luck on your transfer, so exciting!

@kiwisun4385 this is my first IVF cycle and we are doing PGS testing and FET in June. I'm feeling better about my number today, due to my age I am thankful that I have 2 fertilized eggs still going, I just needed yesterday to whine and process it, so thanks to everyone for bearing with me... That's endearing about your DH and the shots, I know mine was really nervous helping me on the stims, can't imagine having to plunge the PIO like a dart! I guess in this way it's nice we are doing FET because I get a little break on the needles!
  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake I'm sorry you're in so much pain, I hope it gets better soon.

I'm feeling worse today than yesterday, ER was wednesday. I woke up in a lot of pain but felt ok the rest of the day and yesterday wasn't too bad but today isn't fun. I'm taking tylenol and using my heating pad but ouch. I'm super bloated and feel huge. I'm hoping I'll feel more normal in the next few days.

  • @brooklyngirl18 feeling pretty good, just home doing laundry and going through mail piles. About as much as excitement as I can handle. The wait for the 5-day report is hard! I need to work on my patience obviously.
  • @Hopeful_mom hurray for 7 good-looking eggs! Will be thinking of you as you recover! As for me, my weight was up 3 pounds the morning after the retrieval. Maybe the IVF fluids?
  • @Hopeful_mom Yay for 7!  Looking forward to a great fert report tomorrow.  For both of my ERs they put the IV in my hand - the second doctor was nice enough to numb it first and gave me extra anti-nausea medication (the first one didn't numb or put "extra" and even with a Zofran DH had to pull over for me on the way home - yuck).  Do they put anti-nausea...whatever in your IV? I'm super prone to motion sickness so apparently the usual for my size amount was insufficient the first time and I was sick the rest of the day :(. Otherwise, I've just taken the Norco the day of ER then not needed anything after that.

Hmm...I didn't notice the rate at which the weight came, but I was a good 8 lbs over my usual weight range the night before the last retrieval.  Was back to normal by the 4th day after though.

Hope your recovery is smooth and quick!

    Thanks for the help!

  • @JaeJayStark My doctor said if you are likely to get pregnant from an IUI it would be in the first three and after that he recommends moving on.
  • Back from my 4th monitoring appointment- tonight will be my 11th night of stimming. Still have about 12 follicles, but they aren't growing super quickly. I've got one or two in the 18 range, but most are averaging around 14mm right now, so they want me to keep stimming.

I'm getting nervous the slow growth is an indicator of poor egg quality? I have always responded slow to clomid/femara as well- I usually didn't get an positive OPK until CD17 or so. I had one slightly high FSH reading about a month ago- 10.3, but otherwise everything else has been normal.

  • @Hopeful_mom, great to hear about the 7 good looking eggs! Fingers crossed that it continues to go smoothly!

@KLake42, happy almost birthday to you, too! And wow, when I read your story about your 10th TWW...it must be agonizing in some ways, but it also strikes me that you're being very strong, and I'm trying to have an ounce of your patience during my first IVF go around.

AFM, today I learned that I won't be triggering tonight--they've pushed out my ER to Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Apparently I have a fourth follicle trying to make an appearance, so now my measurements are 21, 19, 14, and 10 mm. And this after my OH rearranged my birthday plans to Saturday instead of Sunday! But, I'm glad at least one other is getting a chance to grow.

I do wish I had more follies in the running, but I'm trying to be positive with what is there now. It's funny that so many of us are doing/have done ERs around our birthdays!

And thanks for the advice on ER, all!
  • @Hopeful_mom  Congrats on 7, and good looking ones at that! FX for fert results tomorrow... I will be thinking of you! I have notoriously uncooperative veins in my arms so most all of my blood work and the IV went into my left hand.  I have to agree, that was NOT fun at all. This cycle I hope they have better luck finding something in my arm!
@sm05-2 happy almost Bday to you, maybe now you can have two celebrations :)
@brooklyngirl18  FX that you continue to heal and feel better each day.  The heating pad was my best friend last cycle and definitely helps.
  • @sm05-2 - happy almost birthday and FX for a successful ER on Monday/Tuesday!!
  • I gained about 5-7 lbs from the night of trigger until the 4 days post retrieval. All fluid. I had mild-moderate OHSS ...remember I couldn't really eat because that took whatever room I had left from the fluid and felt terrible. All the weight goes away I promise! I'm down to only about 2 lbs up from pre IVF weight .
  • @Ash_SE I'm sorry you had mild/moderate ohss, I think i'm having some ohss symptoms myself. I'm having a lot of bloating and discomfort above my belly button and under my ribs. The whole area feels tender and sensitive but I don't have any bad pain. I'm still urinating like normal and don't feel dehydrated, I'm up 2-3 pounds. I'm 3 days post retrieval and hope the bloating starts going down soon.
