  • @KSweet I did Whole 30 earlier this year before finding out I was pregnant which is based off the paleo diet.  I couldn't believe how hard it was to grocery shop.  And then, everything had to be prepared.  I'm so spoiled to quick meals with all the processed goodness.

You are all murderers and are horrible. How could you be comfortable with yourselves?

If all you guys can come up with are Gifs, then I am proud knowing that I am busting out facts. Enlighten yourselves.

Also, meat treated with antibiotics are killing our children. Bacteria is becoming resistent to antibiotic treatment and those eating meat will be gravely affected.

All you "Pro-Vaccine" mommies better note that one. Your putting your children in danger.
Well since my Jay-Z GIFs aren't working, I'll YT link some more.

But what if we **are** concerned that the animals we consume had a good life?

I can use quotes too. But TBH, tl;dr.

You're concern shows you are at least cognizant of the plight these animals face daily. Especially swine. Pigs are highly intelligent creatures. They are also the hardest to manage while slaughtering.

I'm all aboard the - my kids eat what we eat because I'm not about to make a separate meal - train.  That goes with saying that if they prefer one over the other I would never force my kid to eat it.

I remember growing up I hated squash and every time we had squash my mom would make me eat it before I could get up.  I still to this day can't stand it and I think it's just the negative connotation I associate with it.  I would never force my kids to finish their food or to eat something they truly don't like.

    Me but with steak.

  • DD loves herself all the veggies and fruits ... and requests them for snacks. Don't ask how this happened. I have the opposite problem of most parents - I can't get her to eat anything that will stick around long enough to keep her from asking for food every 20 minutes. This doesn't mean she doesn't eat dairy, meat and eggs, she just prefers fruit and veggies. She loves bacon, chicken, salmon, etc. and just about any other meat we put in front of her!

I have arthritis and migraines. In order to not take all the drugs that make me feel like a completely different person, I choose to alter my diet. I have a diagnosed dairy allergy - when I'm not pregnant, I don't consume it at all (cue all the tears). I haven't had a migraine in years thanks to this change, but damn I miss REAL ice cream, cheese with my wine and so much more. After the arthritis diagnosis, I chose to cut out gluten as much as possible since it's a big contributor to inflammation in the body ... dairy is as well, so double win! Less pain = happy wife/mommy!

When I am pregnant I eat ALL THE THINGS!!! Something about the hormones and a growing human in my body make my dairy allergy and joint pain disappear ... except for the standard aches and pains that everyone tends to get. When the baby is out, it's back to no dairy and very little gluten.  :'(

I do Paleo when I'm up for all the prep. Most of the meat consumed in our home is organic with no hormones or antibiotics because of all I've learned eating this way. We tend to stay away from processed food as much as possible. But hey, chicken nuggets are delish! And ish gets expensive! (Chipotle and Panera are our go to "fast food" mmmm)

Also, I don't cook multiple meals. DH eats what I make. Sometimes I'll include dairy just as a "treat" but most are altered to dairy-free. Milk, cheese, butter, real bread, etc are all staples in our home, I just have the "special" stuff - I.e. GF bread, DF butter/cream cheese, etc - for me.

All this to say - YOU DO YOU! And don't push your agenda on others.  <3

But for real...give me ALL the meat (except when I'm pregnant, I hate chicken while I'm pregnant, even with DD). I would very much love a medium steak about now, so I also don't eat steak while pregnant, since I don't want it well done lol.

  • I am definitely a meat and veggies girl. I love it all.  I am planning to introduce all types of food to LO when the time is right.
If they want to make an educated choice as they get older, then good for them!

I do see the valid argument that the meat industry could do better --------- just like EVERY OTHER INDUSTRY/THING out there! Sure, too much red meat can sometimes be linked to cancer, but so can too much sunlight. I'm not going to give up the sun now am I? Will I take measures to be smart, sure! Should I eat juicy red meat every single night, eh, probably not.

No way I am giving up my tri-tip (YUUUUM!) flank steak, chicken, sushi, etc etc etc etc!

  • All of you momma's who are on the "My kids eats what I make" train:

I will not make them something I know they hate, unless I want it. In that case I make it on pizza night or a night the kids are busy. I used to hate red meat. Not becuase of any weird vegan/vegetarian reason. But the taste to me wasnt tolerable. But over the years my taste has grown to lerrve me some steak.

  • @mrs_fogue I do okay with the meal prepping because, honestly, we can't afford many processed foods, paleo or otherwise. But man, it gets pricey, especially a Whole30. I need things like rice and oatmeal at least for sides or else my family will eat pounds of meat at one meal :open_mouth:

Chicken breast specifically is just gross to me right now. If it's breaded, I'm good. I was watching a commercial for some fast food place where they were advertising their salads and I was just staring at the chicken breast like "omg...so gross...make it stop..."

  • My son was VERY picky over food textures. It took awhile for him to eat things with any sort of different texture. When he was 9 months old he would gag and vomit if a puff touched his tongue. It was a long process to get him to eat table food, but we kept introducing it and eventually he started to love it.

He still won't try things with different textures. He won't eat rice or mashed potatoes and if it looks funny to him he won't eat it. I put it on his plate and get him to at least try it. If he doesn't eat any more, then I don't force the issue. There has been so many things he refused to try because it "looks funny" to him, but once he tries it, he loves it (like ice cream!). So I'll admit I bribe him at times to try new things, but I don't force it afterwards if he still doesn't like it. He finally eats mac and cheese! Before he would just spit it out immediately. Now he loves it. Which makes me happy because I love it

When we make we dinner we make one meal. I don't have time or the desire to make two. However, we base our meals around what our son will eat. We add things in he may not eat, but will at least try. But we always base the main portion of the meal around what he will eat. Luckily he loves pastas and almost all meats, so it's not too hard to come up with something. It's sometimes the side dishes that are harder to come up with that I know he will eat. If all else fails, I'll fill up his sides with fruit and veggies.
  • I think i could become a pescatarian if cheeseburgers weren't so damn good.

Also, this thread made me hungry and i'm sure that's not what the point was.
  • Wow I missed a lot! @VLillyV I'm not sure if sometimes the meat thing is cultural because my Indian husband (not a Hindu obviously) is obsessed about all meaty foods. To him, dishes with meat mean prosperity. He makes DS eat sausage, goat curries, beef, anything! No animal or cut of meat is off limits. I personally prefer DS eat more legumes and fruits and veggies. I even cook him brown rice pasta. DH tries to have meat at every meal and I'm not about that. I don't think meat is a necessary part of the diet. But I also think about less developed countries where people survive on insects and other things like that. It's the only source of protein and keeps them alive.
