FTM Questions for STM+ 4/13

Re: FTM Questions for STM+ 4/13

  • I am wondering....when did you all give birth in relation to your due date? I have heard first time moms are usually late.
My son came on his own at 38+5. I was definitely not sorry to miss those last potential 1-3 weeks! And he was already almost 8lbs. I wouldn't hate the same thing happening this time!

  • Re: scans.  My doctor general does one ultrasound somewhere between 6-8 weeks for dating purposes.  Then if you opt in for the advanced testing at 12-weeks (which I did before, plan to do again, and recommend to others), that includes an ultrasound.  Lastly is the 20-week anatomy scan.  Beyond that I think it's based on individual need/lack of need.

  • My due date was 8/4; they started induction overnight 8/2. My doctor was worried DD was big (they thought she was over 9 lbs--she was 7 lbs 9 oz, after a constant saline drip for almost 24 hours. Ultrasound estimates can be off!) and didn't want me to go any more than a week past my due date. I had to start teaching 8/17, so I wanted her to come on time. She was delivered 8/3 via c-section because she wouldn't descend.

FYI, once your water breaks, it doesn't stop. You keep gushing fluid periodically til the baby is out. I didn't really realize what that would be like.

    Hi everyone,

I had my first appointment today after getting my blood work done yesterday, and I have a question for some of you STMs out there.

Basically, according to my LMP, I should be 6w+1d. However, since my cycles are usually longer (34 days) and I typically ovulate around day 20, I think I might be closer to 5 weeks. When my doctor spoke with me about my hcg level (750), she said that it was showing very early pregnancy, closer to 4 weeks. I understand that everyone is different and every pregnancy is different, etc. but I'm hoping some of the moms who have already experienced pregnancies can help put my mind at ease.

Did any of you have lower hcg levels in the beginning and have everything turn out okay?

I first got my BFP about a week and a half ago... if I'm really less than 5 weeks along now, is it even possible to find out that early?

*tw* I had a miscarriage back in October. Basically, I started spotting on day 44, spotted for 10 days, and then had the miscarriage on day 54. (End tw*)
Now for this pregnancy, today is day 44 and while I haven't had any real spotting, there's just been some very light brown/clear-ish discharge. I'm just nervous about having a miscarriage again. I do have some minor hormone imbalances due to mild PCOS, but I'm hoping that everything's balanced enough for this baby to stick. My doctor did also prescribe me some progesterone supplements today, so I'll be starting those soon as well.

    Sorry for babbling on...
  • @king23h Just wanted to send some hugs. Brown spotting is totally normal and not an indicator of anything being wrong. I can't tell you much about the HCG; with my last pregnancy, my doc didn't do a confirmation appointment--the first appointment was 9-10 weeks to listen to the heartbeat and do the first dating ultrasound. We've since moved and I'm seeing my doc here next week (will be about 6 weeks, I think). Generally, I think you want to see a pattern of HCG increasing more than a specific number, so if you've only had one measurement, that may not tell you much. Some of the other ladies may have more experience, though. Did they set you a follow-up appointment?

  • @king23h HCG levels can vary IMMENSELY. I am kind of surprised your doctor would suggest gestational age based upon that. It's not necessarily the number that's important, it's that the second HCG count is doubling. Do you have another blood draw scheduled? I wouldn't stress about it! Hugs - I known PGAL can really make you doubt yourself. Keep us updated.

  • @king23h I agree with the 2 ladies about the HCG as for finding out that early... yes. I have found out super early with all of my pregnancies. My one before this *tw it ended in loss due to medical stress tw* I found out so early that the ultrasound showed nothing except for a thickening in my uterus where my body was preparing! The only way we knew I was still pregnant was that while I was hospitalized my HCG kept doubling every other day.
*tw my doc let me know one day that my HCG numbers had dropped instead of doubled and the next day I began spotting bright red end tw*
sending you creepy internet hugs and fx you'll see a heartbeat in a few weeks!
  • @cait5413 @flowerpower5838 @missbmama Thank you so much for the support and encouragement. I do have an appointment to get my blood re-tested on Monday 4/24 and then I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor a week later. I know she'll likely want to schedule an ultrasound after that. Honestly, it's just the waiting that's so hard. I know this time of pregnancy is pretty vulnerable for most people, I just wish I could know that it would all turn out okay. I don't want to get my hopes up and jinx myself. Hopefully the weather keeps getting nicer so I can distract myself after work by doing things outside! FX!! Hugs!
  • @king23h I am also a PCOS mama! My ovaries are full of cysts lol. Of course I'm not a doctor but with your cycles being longer there is a chance that since PCOS causes us to have irregular ovulation, you could've done so later in the month, causing you to not be as far along, my D'S I found out at 4w4d, this baby I found out at 3w5d. Which technically means that we had only been pregnant for not even 2 weeks at that point. Try not to stress too much because that makes things harder.sending hugs and positive thoughts!
