Currently, the nursery is purple and grey with white accents with an elephant theme. Since DD and baby will share the room (our other rooms are upstairs and I don't feel comfy moving her up by herself yet), we will either leave it as is it paint over the purple and havebit all grey. Everything else stays as is since it's already pretty gender neutral.
We've already painted the room a neutral off-white because I'm all about the minimalism. Whether it's a boy or a girl, I can't decide if I want some rustic, southwestern accents or to go with an undersea theme (like an ocean sound machine) and some sea creature stuffed animals, etc.
I found this sea-themed play mat on Pinterest and really love it!
P.S. You ladies all have so many beautiful, creative ideas!
So I just came across this, not sure if I would do it but I love the idea of the bed! I could see it being impractical at times but thought I'd share. I like how they could grow into it and as a kid it would make a totally awesome fort.
@flyingfall the downside I see to that is when they're at that stage where you really need them to just stay put inside their crib for a few minutes while you take a poop/shower/etc and there's nothing to contain them to that one area. haha. But DD would loveeeeeee that right about now!

The thing is thebinbetween stage, when they don't just lay still in their crib anymore but they're not walking and at the age where they can have a big kid bed. Like when you're crawling in your sleep training and trying to get them to love their crib and they just crawl out in the middle of the night. I feel like that could be a bit dangerous.
@natleilynn - Good to know. I'm starting to get a little worried about buying everything in time.
I'm moving from LA to Vancouver so it's a cross country move. I'm not allowed to buy ANYTHING for the baby. We won't have any room in the shipping box.
I plan to have the baby sleep in our room for the first few months, so at least I have a little extra time on the nursery.
@dinosaur Oh no, you're plenty good. And that was my theory, too - we knew the baby would stay in our room for at least a month or two so we would have had time to fix it up later on anyway. The only thing we really used in the nursery until DD was about 6-8 weeks old (I took 12 weeks of maternity and wanted to try to get DD settled into sleeping in her own room before I went back to work) was the glider sometimes and the changing pad sometimes.
You won't hit full nesting potential until around 20-30 weeks anyway, so might as well save your motivation for them

I'm currently leaning towards an adventure themed nursery. Something like these, but with a pop of color to stand out in all the neutral. Maybe turquoise?
As far as nursery function - would you ladies say that the room is for you as mom for first two years before becoming "their" room? I'm debating putting a day bed or glider in the small space I have and using more of my favorite color rather than a whimsical theme for baby.

Debating the same thing with myself. I think colors are a plus for babies but not necessarily on walls(elements in the room)... For the first two yrs that is...
Bumping this because I'm trying to avoid work. Any nursery progress for anyone? DH is supposed to be painting the nursery during his spring break this week, so I can share an update photo when/if that happens.

i guess it depends how you plan to use. I put my kids in their room early 6-8 weeks. i put a TV in there, ideally for my late night rocking/feedings. which i hardly ever used. when they were giving me trouble sleeping i would bring them into our room across the hall.
most people i have come across don't even put them in their rooms until 6-12 months, so the room serves little purpose to you. then before you know it you are transitioning to toddler rooms. so i would do a theme/color that can transition well to that.
as for daybed in there, for me it was useless bc i brought them into my room. and i rather have a play space for them. but the rumors are true, babies don't sleep through the night, so if you think you would rather H (or you) sleep in the room alone and one of you go to the nursery to sleep/feed then go that route!
I wanted light green walls, and we already have a couple dark wood pieces in the guest room I wanted to keep because 1) I love the dresser we have and 2) I didn't want to pay for a new dresser. So this is the inspiration we're thinking. DH also loves the tree, but I'm not feeling it. We shall see.
This is the exact color scheme in our nursery. Same walls and espresso furniture. Although we have a frog theme. It was unchanged for both my boys and I'll keep it the same if this one is a boy. If it's a girl, I'm keeping the colors and maybe adding girlier touches. Who am I kidding, this one will be a boy too.
No pic inspiration (we may be moving) but I'd like to do a black and white bedding (we have a white crib) with light gray walls and maybe a fun pop of multi colored pics in white frames.
Were unsure of the sex of this one yet, but because @jessafishy is all "teamBOY" she has me looking more toward little boy inspirations. I would do somethign similar for a girl, but with floral watercolor accents, and coral added into it. here is my inspiration pinterest board:
@canonmom413 I am also leaning toward rabbits/woodland theme regardless of sex!

@carries2018 Woah woah woah. To be clear you can totally steal and still believe in science, and to be fair you can totally believe in science and still be a productive part of society and pay for things. geez.
I was looking at a woodland theme BUT DH wants to put up sports stuff if it's a boy. A sports theme in a boy's room. So boring. Hopefully we can compromise and incorporate both in a tasteful way. Maybe.

I'm loving all these nursery ideas! These are my fave pic's at the moment for our girls nursery.
TEAM: PINK!!
I'm pretty sure I like Dr. Seuss in non-traditional colors.
But, this is a strong contender too.
