Happy weekend!! I was up at 4am yesterday and around 6 today, so much for sleeping in!!!
In brighter news I'm booking our annual trip to Hawaii today! Really hoping the little man is a good traveler once he arrives!!
I would like to send out a big NEENER NEENER to anyone who didn't choose a maxi Easter dress. Guess who didn't have to try to shave their legs this morning?!
On a more humbling note, I *did* have to put a little Vaseline between my thighs, because the friction was getting uncomfortable.
Also, a question that was raised for me from a local FB post... is telling kids that the Easter bunny is real a thing? Some mom posted asking for stuff to fill her son's Easter basket because she "didn't want this to be the year he finds out the Easter bunny isn't real," granted she also mentioned that her son is 12, which made it that much stranger to me. Maybe this is a UO but I just found the concept pretty strange and had never actually heard of it, but it made me wonder if it's a pretty normal practice out there.

Not sure about bout the whole waster bunny thing. I mean I suppose it's like Santa. By 12 my guess is they should have it figured out by then. We still "believe" in Santa in my family but it's definitely more the spirit of Santa and what it means.
Random: We went to Target last night to get some groceries (spend $50 get a $10 gc) and they had apparel on sale (spend $50 get $10 off). Yep baby got some new footie PJs! Realized after going through the clothes we have that he barely had any NB or 0-3 month lol I think we thought that's what everyone was going to get us for the shower, but we barely got any clothes!

@vrj0522 I believe that many people have the Easter Bunny being "real" a thing. We don't and none of my friends do either. The Easter Bunny is probably my least favorite character. We don't do Santa or the Tooth Fairy either, so meh.
Happy Easter Everyone! My parents air conditioning went out so I will just be melting today
SITB Because I prefer to believe we haven't become that obsessed with every tiny holiday, I like to believe children believe in the Easter bunny because of all the small stuff and not parents saying it's real. Like seeing and taking pictures with the Easter bunny at the mall, or movies and tv, or the fact that an Easter basket is giving (which usually comes from the Easter bunny). I mean, let's face it, out of all the make believe people we have made up, the Easter bunny is probably the most ridiculous. Even as a child I was slightly confused by it all. Like how would a bunny, without thumbs and can only hop, deliver all these Easter baskets in one night? And why is he so obsessed with eggs?
@erin2005 The breakfast pizza was AMAZING. I had 2 huge slices. I totally would've bought some donuts, but I don't like donuts sorry!
@Jens_Hoes I've started to purge about 5 months ago, took a huge load in, and have to start again! I do this about every 18 months, where does this crap come from????? Good thing babies are small at first right?
My baby shower ended up being small and fun and awkward. Not very many people actually came, and none of us seemed over joyed to be there. It lasted probably less than an hour. We got some pretty adorable and thoughtful things though and the decorations were amazing! I was too exhausted to think about taking pictures of anything, so I'll have to find out if someone else took pictures that I could share. Had my biggest "baby shower fear" come true and got pretty irritated about people talking about my size. About 3 times when people thought I was out of ear shot I heard "OMG she doesn't even look like she's that pregnant, how is that even possible, etc" and one person actually said to my face that it wasn't fair. She just about got an ear full. Like sorry I'm not big enough to please you guys, there's not a whole lot I can do! If you're so concerned about my size, how about just keeping your mouth shut.
vrj0522, super weird that the Easter bunny being real is a thing to a 12 year old. I guess my UO is that I don't think kids really need to believe any of it is real - Easter bunny, Santa, whatever. I mean, if they believe it's real on their own, that's cool... but trying to preserve it until they're teenagers is just awkward.

I'm not a fan of the Easter bunny but DS's do believe in him and think he comes to deliver baskets on Easter. If it werent for the mall and a few movies I don't think they would've ever thought about him being "real". We don't make it a huge deal. He comes and brings baskets and hides eggs and that's the end of it.
I was just thinking about the fact that many of the ladies here are already around 38 weeks and could have their babies anytime! I'm so excited for everyone. I'm still back of the pack in my 34th week.
I have been having a lot more pain in just the past couple days, and it makes me wonder if I'm just getting to that home stretch. Lots more cramping and RLP and hip/back pain that'll flare up quickly and stop my in my tracks for a minute. It makes me a little nervous that it's the start of something (the cramping especially, because it's not a common symptom for me), but I think my body is just gearing up.
Like Santa and the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny is "real" at our house until our kids figure it out. And even then, they'll likely get stuff from them. From a parenting perspective, I think the Easter bunny is so much easier than Santa. Smaller gifts and less work. Plus the bunny always hides the Easter basket so you have to search for it. He's so mischievous.
absbubbs - Sorry to hear your shower was awkward but hope you had fun despite the belly comments.
My shower was a lot smaller than I expected. I never saw the evite but discovered that half the people invited (family) never even responded. Part of me was relieved it was small and the other part thought "how rude!". Then there was the awkward moment when mother changed into a lace & sequined dress the exact same color as my dress. It was too reminiscent of when she showed up at my wedding wearing white after telling me her dress was gray.
Other than that it was a good day and we got the majority of our big ticket items. So overall, I'm happy.
@starphish18 yup, all of those symptoms sounds like your body's getting ready. I was at the back of the pack last time as well and looking back, it was nice to hear what may or may not happen to be on the lookout.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot What the heck! The Easter bunny NEVER hid my basket as a kid! Lame! @LilMissCrafty It was fun. Just awkward because I don't know the people even though they are close to his family. Your mother on the other hand had my jaw on the floor. My mother and I dress to match sometimes, but we choose to complement each other! @starphish18 I agree, it's crazy to think May babies are going to be sprouting everywhere soon! Sometimes I feel left out being at the back of the pack, but it's nice to get a warning of what is coming.
@absbubbs I don't know why people feel the need to talk about size ESPECIALLY at YOUR shower. I'm glad you let it be known....
@LilMissCrafty Glad you got your big ticket items at your shower. To those that didn't attend, their loss not yours. And, I'm sorry to say, your mom repeated the same offense of trying to steal your spotlight but it sounds like you aren't too bothered by it.
DD believes in Easter Bunny and in Santa. We explain the meaning of the holidays, but like this "magical" part of the holiday too. We do try to make gifts from them not their biggest gifts, those come from us. We realize that we are lucky to be able to afford decent gifts, but just not every kid gets big gifts, and we might not be able to afford them all the time.

I've been MIA lately trying to get my crazy work to-do list done before my surgery. I worked all day yesterday (not even a Facebook break!) which wasn't fun but I felt really good with everything I got done. Today was a lot more fun. We took DS to an Easter brunch where he got to meet the Easter bunny and he LOVED IT. He was terrified of Santa so I was glad this was a better experience. Then we came home and did a mini Easter egg hunt in our living room (the cast makes it hard to do anything too extensive) which was a lot of fun for DS too. Now he's getting ready for a nap and I'm about to head into the city for a prenatal massage!
I'm jealous of all of you who have gotten cleaning and organizing done. I really need to do a bunch of that but I am also being realistic about what I can handle between now and surgery. And I am glad most of us had a pretty good weekend - I hope those that were in a bad mood or had a crappy start got to turn things around!
I got some free Avent bottles but I'm getting a Medela pump through my insurance. Do you have to use the same brand of bottles with your pump? I'd rather not buy some kind of conversion thing because I just want things to be easy, so do I need to go get Medela bottles? Or do I pump into a Medela bottle or bag and just dump it into whatever bottles I want to use?
I'm so clueless about pumping.

I never used the Medela bottles for actual feeding. I pumped into the Medela bottles (your pump will probably come with 2-4 bottles which 4 was enough for one day of pumping for me). And then at the end of the day I would distribute my pumped milk into freezer bags for storage. Then use the milk from the freezer bags to pour into my playtex bottles. Or you could skip the freezer bags and pour into your bottles you'll be using at the end of the day if your planning on using the milk within the next day or two.
Check out the Pumping thread we had going! We discussed different storage options.

This morning, a man at Church was reminding me that they are taking photos for the directory soon (we are fairly new). It's at the very end of this month, and when he heard I was due in May he said 'Oh, in that case you probably don't want to do it then.' I said 'WHY??? BECAUSE I'M ENORMOUS???' He was very calm and said 'No... because if you wait until fall, you can get all FOUR of you in the photo.'
Funny story - when I got married my mom was stressing hardcore about what to wear. She did not want a traditional MOB dress, and even though she's super skinny she has a lot of body confidence issues so she was starting to worry she wouldn't find something she liked. We were at the mall one day and I saw this pretty white one. I convinced her to try it on and you could tell the second she put it on she was in love. Big smile, sparkly eyes - she looked fantastic. It took a lot convincing, but she finally bought it. However, she made me tell EVERYONE that came that I picked the dress out so that people wouldn't think she was trying to steal the spotlight. I'll post a pic once the mobile app starts cooperating again.
I'm glad everyone is having a nice day with their families!
I've gone off the deep end with eating this past weekend. Think I can just tell them to forget weighing me from here on out? "That's enough, thanks!"
At my last appointment the nurse read the weight off the scale wrong, which made me about 10lbs lighter! And then she said "oops I mean xxx" I told her she was more than welcome to use the wrong number instead!
Also, I am highly annoyed that when I weigh myself at home, I'm 5lbs lighter than the doctors scale (which is usually because I'm fully clothed in winter clothes!) So I've decided that I just don't give a crap anymore! It is what it is.

I should probably wait to one of those symptoms threads to write this but I had to vent now. This baby is ALL up in my business. I know this is what happens in that final month but geez. I look down and my belly doesn't look that big, consistent with what other people have said ("you look great!" "you look so tiny!" etc). And I've decided that is the problem. I think that my belly didn't expand outward enough. Instead, I think that the uterus expanded into the inside of my body too much. The baby is smashing into my pelvis and digging into my ribs at the same time. There is just so much internal movement/abuse (fwiw I have an anterior placenta, but I also do get a lot of the alien lump movements on the outside, just mostly on the sides where the placenta isn't.)
Now I don't really think this--I think that this is just always how it is at the end and I have done this before. But it's definitely a pain!
@hp_momma my OB had my starting weights wayyyyy off. She had me at my lowest weight ever from way before I was pregnant (when I was clean eating and doing the 21 day fix). When I had my first nurses appt, I told them my staffing weight and hey apparently never updated it..but it's a 7lb difference! I was already up 30lbs (by my weight) at 32 weeks and 37 lbs by her documentation. I was sick with a sinus infection and overall grumpy.
this dr always comments on my weight, which is annoying since I've never been obese and have always lost the baby weight almost immediately. I told the nurse to give her a heads up that I was feeling cranky and didn't want to hear the fat talk today. I think from now on I'm just going to print out a picture of my postpartum abs and hold it up every time she brings up weight. Ugh.

@kat81 I could have written your whole post, anterior placental and all! It's so weird because I am quite tall, so I feel like it's impossible for LO to be smooshing my pelvis and lungs at the same time, but here we are. I'm not mentally/emotionally prepared, but my body is def tired of being pregnant.

This. Just this, I am not overly tall but have a longer torso and I'm so sure that DS was never this uncomfortable. I just wish this LO would stop scratching my cervix, wtf is up with that! Keep your damn finger nails away child!

@kat81, @llenadevida900, and @PartiallyDomesticated I'm right there with you all. I have a short torso so I think it's easier for me to feel him high and low at the same time. The only real problem I have with all of that is when he somehow gets high enough to cause the pain in my upper back making me not able to breathe well, have hot flashes, feel like running to the Ba'ath room, and ultimately having a long contraction (or what I've come to believe is one). This happened again last night much like the time a couple of weeks ago and I ended up going to my dr's office. Hard to believe that's what's going on but I'm not a dr so what do I know!? I see my dr tomorrow and I'm going to tell her about it again. It wears me out and I'm so sore the next morning. I told my boss I'd try to do a half day today or just work from home all day if possible. Ugh...are we there yet?

When something irritates my uterus, I often get a contraction. So sometimes the baby causes it with an extreme motion. Otherwise it is a child feeling the belly. Or I have to pee, so maybe the bladder is pushing it.

Oh...
3 more days!!!!

Also, I am highly annoyed that when I weigh myself at home, I'm 5lbs lighter than the doctors scale (which is usually because I'm fully clothed in winter clothes!) So I've decided that I just don't give a crap anymore! It is what it is.

Now I don't really think this--I think that this is just always how it is at the end and I have done this before. But it's definitely a pain!
this dr always comments on my weight, which is annoying since I've never been obese and have always lost the baby weight almost immediately. I told the nurse to give her a heads up that I was feeling cranky and didn't want to hear the fat talk today. I think from now on I'm just going to print out a picture of my postpartum abs and hold it up every time she brings up weight. Ugh.
