We are spending time with family today, and will probably have a lazy day at home tomorrow. We normally go about an hour south to a huge surf contest each easter, but on Thursday my doctor said he didn't think I should drive that far. So our plans are changing this year.
H works today so I'll be lazy, but probably attempt to do the normal laundry/clean and what not. Planning on relaxing tonight when he gets home. Tomorrow we'll go have lunch at my moms, traditional ham and all that goodness. No little kids yet so no egg hunt, but she'll probably still get us little baskets or something. We used to go all crazy when we were younger. Dyed eggs and had a hunt. We would make a black egg and whoever found it for the big prize! Many have been hurt searching for that egg haha good times!
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
We are on the way to our baby shower. I'm stoked because even though we live in a big town, we don't have a Casey's gas station but are passing one on the way down. Which means....I'm getting amazing breakfast pizza!
Ladies I got to sleep in! I think this is the first time since I had ds. Dh dropped my son off at grammas so I could work in the house getting things ready. We rented a dumpster last week and have barely had time to do anything with it. For easter we go to outback steakhouse. The tradition started back when my brother was in college. He was a RA and always had to go back on easter. Good luck april!
@wombthereitis and @yiggle09 I am so living vicariously through both of you. Massage and sleeping in?!
DD has a neighborhood easter egg hunt this morning and tomorrow we are going to BIL's house for dinner. Keeping it simple. Thankfully we are having some nice weather! I can't imagine having a winter baby. Or babies...
Family started arriving yesterday for my brothers wedding, brother and fiancé arrive today. Tomorrow we will church it up, eat it up, and add more family to the mix. Also trying to get bags packed and lunches arranged for the week, as induction is scheduled for Tuesday 5am. Cleaning a bit more today and opening the windows for some much needed fresh air in the house!!
@absbubbs So jealous! That's one of the places that's ALWAYS on my to eat list whenever I make it back to Iowa! Last pregnancy I also craved those everfresh juices in the glass bottles that caseys carries. Had no idea until I was craving it that they don't distribute out west. Eat a donut for me!
We are planning on coloring eggs (DDs first time!) that I hard boiled yesterday. Also we will go to a park and do her Easter egg again this year! MIL ended up keeping her overnight last night so we will go get her soon and then maybe I'll find a church service for Sunday... it's just not like the Midwest out here in CA - the closest church here to the denomination I grew up going to in Iowa has their service times sign written in another language and I looked online and there's a weekly attendance average of 15 ppl so I'm super nervous to just waltz in there.
Today's plans consist of relaxing, quick trip to the store for some necessities, and finally filling DDs Easter basket with all the goodies that I bought weeks ago, also filling eggs for her Easter hunt tomorrow!
Tomorrow will be a fun. We are having a egg hunt for DD and all the family over for good food!!!
Well DD has a double ear infection and strep, so she is missing out on the egg hunt this morning. I now am going to out and get eggs/candy so she can do a egg hunt tomorrow at my parents. She will be on the antibiotics for 24 hours tonight, so as long as she doesn't have fever we will go to church tomorrow. We are having traditional meal after church. We do Easter baskets. We will dye eggs later today!
Can't believe I'm home for Easter. I got baskets done but I have no energy to worry about a big Easter breakfast or dinner. Sorry kids. We will likely do our usual donut Sunday and Easter basket hunt and egg hunt at home and have something lame for dinner. Is el pollo loco open on Easter Sunday? I was hoping to have baby home for Easter. Now the goal is Tuesday when they recheck fluid and if it's still high I'll be induced Wednesday. I'd rather he came on his own so I'm doing as much walking as I can. Although my family has so lovingly told me multiple times now how much they hope he doesn't come Sunday because of traffic
My shower is today. Looking forward to stuffing my face with cake! Tomorrow will be a mix of relaxing, organizing, and ordering anything I didn't get at my shower online.
I'm a cranky bitch this morning. We've only been up for 1/2 hour but I've already had a fight with DD. Hopefully we'll get to the "eggstravaganza" and Easter parade (I use that term loosely) this morning. And hopefully we'll do some prep for tomorrow's special dinner. Since DH is gone we were invited to a friend's house. But considering my mood I'm not optimistic about what will get done.
It's gorgeous up here in New York today, and it's supposed to be warmer tomorrow. Im doing some heavy purging and cleaning. It feels like we have no room for any of the baby's stuff, so $hits gotta go! I know my plans for cleaning will be larger than my body will allow.
Everybody that has a shower today/tomorrow, have a great time!! +1 for getting to sleep in for the first time in over a couple weeks so that was glorious. We're just mostly hanging out and running errands before hitting up a playground or something later today. We got our first letter from HOA about needing to treat the entire lawn for weeds lol. Hopefully buying a lawnmower and cutting the yard will help reduce how bad it looks, though we have pulled out a ton already.
Today is my grandma's 93rd birthday, so we are having a little party. DD is very excited and picked out so many balloons and a cake covered in sprinkles for the party.
Tomorrow church and then Easter celebrations with my family and then the in-laws.
DH and I went to a tree nursery this morning and picked out a spruce tree for our front yard. I'm so happy to be getting rid of the half-dead crab apple tree that was there when we bought the place.
I was going to finish my deep clean of the house today to get ready for my midwife home visit on Monday but I think i'll just do some cooking for our family dinner tomorrow and finish my cleaning in the morning.
I'm at work all weekend! I also woke up in a foul mood today so I'm trying to recover from that. It didn't help that I had a crappy morning at work. But I'm sure it'll turn around. It has to! Tomorrow we're having a pitch in/carry in for Easter and I'm pumped because our nurses are the best cooks!
Ive been feeling just mildly dizzy all day and I can't figure it out. My first worry was my BP but I took it at work and I was 120s/70s. Then I had a nice big breakfast and tons of water and it's no better. We did a lot of cleaning yesterday and my allergies are pretty flared so I'm hoping it's just a sinus/ear deal and will eventually go away. Baby's moving around PLENTY and no other indication that anything is wrong. Anyway just putting that out there in case anyone has any input.
Hope everyone enjoys their egg hunts and family time!
We've started moving stuff into the new house! A bunch of furniture arrived this week from the stores and I saw it all yesterday for the first time (other than in pictures) and it looks awesome! So much more like a home! We're going mattress shopping this weekend
I was planning to do some cleaning in the basement we live in now and I sort of started and then I saw my ankles were swollen for the first time so kicking them up now with a bottle of water. Luckily I already started a big of newborn and 0-3 size stuff laundry (we won't have a washer and dryer for a couple of weeks there so doing it here).
1.) My mom & I have a tradition every Christmas Eve of going to Cracker Barrel! I always celebrated Christmas with her on Christmas Eve so we'd open up gifts, I'd wear a new outfit to Cracker Barrel, and we'd play chess in front of the fireplace Have fun at Outback!!
2.) I also went on an unplanned cleaning spree (kitchen & laundry room) and I, too, have a painful pelvis now As a FTM I've never experienced the nesting urge like this. Every weekend I tell myself I'll take it easy and every weekend I find something new to break my back over!
In general, we have 4 animals (I know, it was an accident) and we're trying to get them all up to date on vaccinations and grooming. Our 14 year old fuzzball cat gets a lion cut every 3 months. We started that because it gets up to the hundreds frequently in our part of L.A. and quickly discovered she loves having her hair short. She's so confident when she gets that cut! It also helps with cleaning around here. She also got all her shots & deworming today. Chihuahua is next on the vet list with an appt next weekend. DH & I are both slightly obsessive about making sure our place isn't "animally" and have a tidying whirlwind every Saturday. We're very tidy and 4 animals definitely keeps us on our toes! I'm not sure how I'll adjust when baby comes, we live in an apartment and central air isn't common here so we feel like we have to clean a lot to keep it feeling fresh! Anyone else with lots of pets have tips on keeping up with it with a newborn? We have hardwood floors & a small apartment but again no central air so dust & hair are a constant battle. I know we won't be able to keep it spotless but I want to keep it from getting stuffy and smelling/feeling like a dog bed...
Started off the morning with waffles with lots of peanut butter and syrup and will probably spend the day getting some cleaning done around the house, putting the finishing touches on DD's Easter basket and if I feel crafty enough, we might just decorate the house too. Sunday DH is off so we will probably be taking DD to his parent's house to do her egg hunt in a yard instead of the living room (downsides of apartment living) and hopefully get some good familt time in.
We have DS a haircut this morning- which he hates- but it actually went OK. He only cried before we started and kept saying "Mommy, I'm very safe?" which is what I tell him when he's scared. Went out to lunch and got Starbucks to take to the nature center. Getting ready to go over to a friends for a BBQ
I'm really stuck on baby names. We're between Ridley and Lila. Our last name starts with R and DS has an R name. I also feel like having a gender ambiguous name could be helpful for a girl when she's older and applying to jobs. Has anyone else read the article about two writers who switched names for a week? Am I over thinking this? Lila is so pretty but it is ultra feminine and the little Gloria Steinem I'm planning on raising might want to be a cheerleader and I need to be ok with that possibility too!
@Hansolosparka there is a super badass character named Lila Bard who is a tough girl pirate in this great fantasy novel series I love by V.E. Schwab... so Lila makes me think of a tough chickadee! I know that's a personal take but, I never found that the character's feminine name interfered with her rough & tumble persona! Also, by the time she's in the workplace maybe we'll have that shit mostly stamped out? Maybe men will be submissive by then and we'll be leading the world!
@sweaterboots on the animals/pet hair: I wish I had an answer for you. The dog hair bothered me and was a constant issue before I had my son, but now it truly drives me crazy. We have a Lab and a Basset Hound, and even with vacuuming once or twice a day and running our roomba it still seems like it's everywhere.
I'm sorry I don't anything helpful to add! As much as I love our dogs I often dream of giving them away so I don't have to try to keep up with the constant hair and messiness battle. That is probably a FFSC, but having kids did change things for me as far as pets go.
Originally DH just had 1 cat (when he was just my boyfriend). Well right before we moved in together his roommate moved to Seattle and left her timid rescue cat behind He felt awful for her so he took her in. A year later I rescued a mutt because I was more of a dog person anyway and DH knew had been waiting to adopt for 8 years, as I wanted to make sure I was stable enough here in L.A. to do it. Cut to 2 years later...there was a chihuahua who had his face severely bashed in by some asshole who needed a foster home while he recovered. We decided to take him in and take care of him while he recovered from his surgeries the rescue provided. 9 months later my husband begged to keep him. So, 4 animals. Only meant to have 2. Love them all but my god it's gonna be crazy when we have a baby!! Le sigh...
@Hansolosparka, I like both names! Do you care about amen popularity? Asking because we had considered Lila but ultimately nixed it due to combined spelling popularity (Lila, Lilah, Lyla) and Ridley seems really unique.
Happy weekend, ladies! I'm slowly surviving the first weekend with a toddler and infant, but I've got to say that I am greatly looking forward to sending DS to daycare (and sending my visitors to the airport!) and getting some quality alone time settling into the house with DD and DH.
@Hansolosparka DD's name is Lilah so I'm partial to it, it's not common where I'm at and everyone who's heard it always comments how beautiful the name is. I wanted something that was strong, feminine and sounds like a name a grown woman could have.
@pshaortao we got a letter from our HOA too. We are beyond helping ourselves. I hired a professional company to come liven ours up and get rid of our weeds.
i have been a cranky bitch all day. I even claimed the asshole trophy when I went off on basiclly everyone. I've never seen people clear out of our house and go home so fast..... I have since apologized but I'm worried about fiances family staying mad. I was a total asshat
We've had a good day! Got so much laundry done this morning, then we went to a get-together with old friends and had an Easter egg hunt for all the kids. Since DS is gone until tomorrow, I got to nap during DD's nap this afternoon! Tomorrow we have Easter dinner with my family.

@kns1988 it is one of the best parts! He sang the whole way home from our friends house tonight because he was in such a good mood- he's so sweet I can't stand it!
Thanks @sweaterboots and @OmegaRose3 My H is really pushing for Lila! I do kind of like a less popular name. DSs name is definitely less common too. Ridley kind of has the Star Wars connection too with Daisy Ridley. I'm hoping as we get closer we can decide and both be happy with our choice!
I hope your all having a relaxing weekend, enjoying your baby showers, and stuffing your faces with delicious food!
We've been busy cleaning up the yard and house this morning. Tonight we took the girls to their first baseball game as it was Armed Forces Night at the Mariners game! The girls had fun and I made DH pay extra to have parking as close as possible, totally worth it to not have to waddle my self all through downtown. Tomorrow will be low key with just the 4 of us but I'm looking forward to coloring eggs and doing some Easter Crafts with the girls!
