  • These may have been shared before, but the one in particular keeps coming to mind with all of the placenta talk on another thread. Both of these get a WTF from me.

A lot of mamas from my last BMB did the breastmilk jewelry! Theyre gorgeous and represent a beautiful thing. I had told DH I wanted one for xmas. He failed then a few months later we ended up moving so it never happened.

  • Oh nooo @mcvgal FX everything clears up soon!!!
  • @mcvgal you just can't catch a break! Hope your infection heals soon so you can start feeling better!
  • @WombThereItIs ugh I hope you get it all worked out soon!

Hahah no surprise that the art is made in Portland, both of these (Breast milk jewelry and placenta art) are big here. I live in a very crunchy granola place but wouldn't have it any other way. Portland is a very unique city :)
  • Ew, bodily fluid jewelry is disgusting.

  • That's downright terrible @WombThereItIs.
I laughed so hard I drooled @ShadeofGreen816. Love that image. Sorry about the weather.
  • @emilyalso @pshaortao @chailife34 I have to admit I like the breast milk jewelry and the placenta print. But why is the jewelry so expensive??

I think it's because there is a process to preserve the bodily fluid, and there's been more demand in the recent years. That website does seem absurd in pricing though, I know there are other smaller companies that does it for you. I plan to find out which one was the best price and service wise from my last BMB when I'm ready to do this.

  • WTF.  I don't normally have a WTF, but WTF CPA. We followed your advice last year and scheduled quarterly tax payments in the amount you set. We underpaid and now we have to write a check to Uncle Sam for $13k.
  • Oh no @clebl24!!! My CPA would definitely be getting a big WTF from me too!

  • Wtf to the new condo we just bought and moved into in December. We bought on the first floor because condo living + kids can = a lot of noise complaints, plus we wanted access to the grass for the little ones to run around on. Right below us is the parkade and the building was "completed" in November. Well, they just installed a gate, which they had no plans to a couple of days ago, and the motor is RIGHT below our suite (living room and DD's room to be exact), and it seriously sounds like a garburator, our walls vibrate, it lasts about 20 seconds and happens constantly (as in we get a 5 min break from it max!!!) Were having to play the white noise pretty loud in my daughter's room which isn't ideal for her ears, it's waking me up at night, and we can't even relax in the living room. We can't sell for 6 months after our posession date so that would put us at June 1 for listing if we can't get the issue resolved. Not great timing with a newborn!

@clebl24: That's a huge WTF! You definitely should not be quiet about this outcome!

@momma2char: that sounds super annoying! Do you have any recourse? Probably not b/c it's community property, but still...
(P.S. other people on this board have moved with newborns & survived, so even if not ideal, it's doable!)
  • @clebl24 sorry to hear about your taxes.  That has happened to us too.  He decided how much we should pay quarterly and we followed the directions.  Then we owed like 20k the year we followed his directions.  We forced him to meet with us to discuss how this happened.  Apparently his calculations for our quarterly taxes were based on an income number that he couldn't even explain.  He basically said he had no idea where he got that number.  Barely apologized.  Then charged us for the meeting in which he was explaining himself.  I wrote a nasty letter to his company and they did nothing for us.  No discount on our tax prep or anything.  Including the fact that they stood by charging us for the meeting where he had to explain the taxes.  Needless to say that gentleman no longer prepares our taxes and we found someone else much more competent. I hope you get a better outcome than we did.  Like maybe they can waive the whole tax prep fee bc it's their mistake.  It's so frustrating though.  Sorry to hear about your troubles.
  • @mcvgal - ugh! that suuuuucks! Hope things turn around soon.

@WombThereItIs - what the hell?! Did you end up completely stranded?

@clebl24 - your CPA deserves more than a WTF. He deserves a smack in the head!

  • @rkstro2 @clebl24 - That's horrible! I would be super pissed. FWIW, I've had good results posting complaints with the Better Business Bureau when I haven't been able to resolve an issue with the company directly.
  • @clebl24 oh my gosh! I couldn't even imagine that happening! That's so crazy!!

WTF cable company! We chose to install the boxes and internet ourselves, which we always do because H is tech savvy and it really isn't that complicated. Well, this time for whatever reason nothing would work. We had no signal and blank screens. So we call and they can't figure out either except that maybe whoever was in our apartment last had a different company and maybe something is wrong on the outside of the building so they scheduled for someone to come out. Awesome come fix it, shouldn't cost me anything because not our fault. So, they come out get the one tv working (the other wasn't up yet because I couldn't help H lift it) and he checked the other box to make sure it was working. Apparently there's a little box in our closet that has some sort of switch for the cable and it was turned off. Guess what I just got in the mail...the bill with an install fee!! WTF?!?! Not my fault!! We had everything hooked up correctly! Ugh so now we have to call and fight them because I'm not paying $60 for something that wasn't my issue to begin with. Oh, and now the box that was checked before the tv was up doesn't work. Sweet.

  • @clebl24 Oh my gosh, that is astounding. I can't even imagine having to make up that large of a sum. I'm so sorry...hopefully you're able to have the fee waived or something, like others said. @rkstro2 Sorry that happened to you in the past, too. Eesh.
  • @clebl24 I would be extremely irate, that much of an underpayment based on his advice is inexcusable.

We contacted a lawyer and he said there's nothing we can do about it but talk to strata and see if they can resolve it. Since we just purchased and moved on Dec 1, if we choose to move before 6 months (June 1), we will have to pay a penalty with the bank, but I can't even see myself making it another 2 months here since I could only sleep 3 hours last night and the gate was waking up my daughter all night whenever someone opened it. I don't think the moving will be as big of an issue as keeping my house tidy and presentable for showings with a newborn, toddler and through my first weeks of being post-partum  would absolutely be worth it though! It's too bad because we love this place and there was no talk of a gate being put in.
  • Ughhh @WombThereItIs you're stuck in ATL right? I just read about the whole nightmare there. I'm sorry. FX you get out soon!
  • Oh no, sorry @OmegaRose3. I'm glad you're doing ok, though.
  • @WombThereItIs You take the cake! I'm sorry you're still stuck.
@OmegaRose3 I hope you're feeling better. Sorry to hear about your fall!

  • Okay, I have a WTF. (I wrote out a huge rant and explanation, and deleted it all. But maybe we need a rant thread?)

FMLA is complicated, and only covers 12 weeks. Why don't we have better maternity leave in this country??!
Amen!!! I was explaining to my boss yesterday, and she just sat there with her mouth open. She said she thought we had better maternity leave by now.
