@morado23 the ironic part? That is a pic I took while in the Caribbean! I have been all over, and its fun, but I have always gone with other people who wanted to go there. I will never choose to go there on my own- I would rather go to European cities or southeast Asia or South America

@kiwi2628 I guess I kind of agree. the beaches are all pretty much the same, but I'd rather go a Caribbean island over (UO?) Mexico. also, LOVE the irony.

@RVAmom315 I live in Oregon so we get plenty of rain. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I'm indifferent. It's pretty rare that I'm actually upset it's raining.

Kinda along the same lines as @kmalls

I think that Disney in general is WAY overrated. I like some of the movies, but the idea of fighting the crowds and spending a small fortune to go to one of their theme parks makes me want to stab myself in the eye with a pencil. Ticket: $110+

I don't understand adults who are obsessed with Disney.
I don't really like the idea of wedding showers when you're already living on your own and have things for your home.

I hate the word "kiddos".
I guess that's more of an Irrational Irritation. The board I used to post on on TK lumped UO w/ Irrational Irritations and Confessions so I'm used to just throwing them all out there together haha

I was very anti Caribbean vacation after a trip we took to Freeport almost 20 years ago. Tourist hell. However, last year we went to a small island in the Exumas, and it was amazing. Very small, non touristy, not crowded. We had our own boat and just drove it around exploring all the sandbars and small cays. We had beaches entirely to ourselves. It was wonderful. I'd go back there.

Regarding chocolate, I prefer dark! I hate chocolate with fruit flavor though.

My UO: I hate "picnic" food. Macaroni salad, potato salad, baked beans. Yuck.

@LuND @lavenderfields13 I agree on Disney! I was actually too scared to post this as a UO because I know a lot of people really love it. I've been to Disneyland twice, once in second grade, once as a junior in high school. My mom and I were talking recently about how we should go back since it's been so long. 9+ years between trips is fine with me!

Although I am a little desperate to go to Harry Potter world or whatever tf it's called. The one in California because I'm on the west coast.

Going along with @kmalls and @LuND I never really understood the desire for a Disney honeymoon, but I know soooo many couples who have done it. One couple said they decided to do it because they did not want to spend a ton of money, yet DH and I managed to go to Europe for about the same they paid to go to Disney.

@alysapuggles YAS to hating picnic food. Baked beans don't bother me too much, but who the hell thought it was a good idea to drown potatoes and pasta in mayo???????????????? Even worse when they use miracle whip *shudders*

@Pinky917 yup agree. My cousin and her husband spent $10k on their Disney honeymoon. DH and I went to Hawaii (from the east coast) for 10 days and spent half that.

ETA: if Disney is your thing and that's how you want to spend your money, cool. Just not for me.

My UO? I hate sandwiches. I don't mind something that is made fresh and grilled, but normal sandwiches disgust me. Especially ones made at home and brought to work.

On the Disney topic train...Disney princess themed weddings. Vom.com. The whole "I want to feel like a princess. It's my day" thing. Ugh! Just have a regular wedding and leave the Disney theme to little girl's birthday parties. I'm sure your future husband will thank you.

@SoldiersMom Yes! Which leads me to a second UO - I think that people who spend all of their savings or go into debt for a big wedding are foolish. You can have an incredible day and look beautiful without spending tens of thousands of dollars (or more!!)... especially the dress - I don't understand people who spend thousands of dollars on a dress to wear for a few hours.

I have an early Friday confession - I was JUST on the Disney website planning out a trip while also debating if Disney is worth it since I'm totally gonna be KU soon anyway (insert eye roll). Anyway, it's pretty much costs the same as 3 trips to the Caribbean, which I think @kiwi2628 is why that's so popular. I really don't know if it's worth what it costs but I just wanna go SO BADLY.

Ok so here's my take: if you're paying for your wedding yourself and a big shindig will zero out your savings or put you into debt, no, not worth it. Like you said, @Sailing_Mama, you can look beautiful and have a great day without bankrupting yourself. Totally agree with that.

That being said, I've seen conversations like this quickly devolve into bad places, with someone inevitably saying "if you spend xxx amount of money, obviously your heart isn't in the right place and your marriage is doomed." Budget wedding, over-the-top-wedding, do whatever kind of wedding is right for you. I don't think shade should ever be thrown at a budget, no matter which end of the spectrum it is.

While we're on the subject of hating vacation destinations, my UO:
Fun weekends in Las Vegas are my personal nightmare. It's overpriced, oversaturated, overcrowded, I don't want to go to any of the dumb shows, I don't want to see Thunder Down Under, I don't want to be around a bunch of asshole drunk people, and I don't want to gamble.

I agree. I spent a ridiculous amount of money on the wedding. Like far and beyond the cost of what they say the average american wedding costs, and I loved every minute of it. My parents could afford it and wanted to, so we did. And it made us happy. Zero regrets!

Disney as a trip is great. I've been there three times, both on family vacations and as our HS senior trip. I have wonderful memories of Disney. If you can get there, I think it's a worthwhile, albeit an insanely expensive trip. Some people may go once and have their fill, while other people may want to go back every few years. There's definitely nothing wrong with wanting to experience Disneyland/World.
Becoming Disney obsessed though, and letting Disney permeate your entire life, is kind of strange through. Especially as an adult.

@Sailing_Mama I didn't spend thousands of dollars on my dress (my parent's paid for it, but it was a reasonable price) and I still have guilt about only wearing it a few hours. I wish I could wear it to date night or every year on my anniversary. I feel bad that such a beautiful dress was only worn for 6 hours. It feels unfair. I had it cleaned and preserved and put in the shadow box but now I'm like wtf do I do with it? I couldn't imagine spending what some girls on Say Yes to the Dress spend! I'd probably wear the dress every where for a year to get my money's worth!

@vflux33 I've never been to Vegas and have no desire to! DH has been once for a conference with this Catholic organization his dad works for/DH worked part time for in college (I know, a Catholic conference in Vegas...what?) and he told me we have to go because 1. free drinks while you gamble and 2. buffets. And still I'm like...eh... I think I'd rather just go see the canyons around there instead. (I'm also super frugal and the thought of losing money gambling, even like $20, gives me anxiety. lol)

@MJDsquared Totally, don't do it--it's a trap! The "free" drinks aren't free when you're shelling out your money gambling (and I never really "got" gambling as a fun activity--it always seemed boring and pointless to me). The buffets aren't that good. I would say the food in Vegas in general is very overrated--best food I had there was a taco place OFF the strip. We have to drive through Vegas all the time to see family/ILs in the southwest and often we will structure the entire trip around trying not to stop there. If you do ever go, don't be fooled by the low hotel prices in the summer because it can get up to like 115 there and it's not pleasant.

Vegas is cool to see the gondolas at Venetian, the (real) lions at MGM grand, the performers at Circus Circus, and the Hoover Dam. Otherwise it's basically a drunk orgy. @MJDsquared you could gamble really cheap in nearly towns like Pahrump or hell, even at a gas station or something. Or the penny slots ;-), but they don't come by as often with the free drinks.

If I could eat nothing but sandwiches and picnic food for the rest of my life I would die a happy woman. Ugh my favorites. Also burritos.
I am on the train of "spend whatever is right for you" for your wedding. We spent a pretty substantial amount, but we could afford it, we did not go into debt, and we loved every minute of it.
Confession: sometimes I drink wine and put on my wedding dress for fun. Why not? Haha but not when my husband is home lol.

My UO is that I hate McMansions. Those cookie cutter houses with grand entrances and columns and wierd fairy tale buttresses that serve no purpose. Ugh. Hate them. Example: literally every single house on the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

And I know that's a super unpopular opinion, so I'm sorry if I offend anyone

@kmalls @kiwi2628 Agreed - and I was really only talking about people who choose to start their marriage broke or in debt because of needing a big party or a designer dress. If you or your parents have and want to spend the money and it doesn't affect your financial stability - no judgment at all (same as if you can afford a dress or have it gifted to you, like @SoldiersMom)... same goes for honeymoons in my mind - if you can afford a month long world tour, oh my goodness, do it! But if you have to put your honeymoon on a credit card to pay off over time, maybe wait and do an anniversary trip.

I tend to feel the same about anything though - I know that our generation isn't the most financial literate, but I still have little patience for people who are extravagant and then complain about being in debt. (possible TW?) I have a friend on FB who always complains about how expensive having a kid is, but always has to buy fancy hipster clothes to do the Instagram type photo shoots... Sigh.

YES.

The first time I went to Vegas I had just turned 22 and went with friends. Had a blast because, well, I was 22. I went again with a girlfriend of mine last year (I'm now 32) because we found an airfare sale and she had never been. It. Was. Horrible. I don't mind gambling a little, but HOLY CRAP everything is so incredibly overpriced and overcrowded.

@MJDsquared vflux is right when she says the drinks aren't really free. And the buffets are incredibly overpriced. You can find some amazing food, but you're going to pay a pretty penny for it. On my last trip we stayed at the Flamingo because the rooms are cheap-ish and they have a great pool. We quickly learned to smuggle booze into the pool area because one teeny, tiny mixed drink was $14. And, if you didn't get to the pool RIGHT when it opened, you were out of luck for pool chairs because they were all taken (except for the chairs you had to PAY to use).

@BreezyBeeomg McMansions are the grossest! They are usually built terribly and in 20 years will be breaking down, they look terrible, they space layout is not well-planned out- I hate hate hate them.
