@mrsmarygs Right? Have some pride. The amount of privilege someone must feel, thinking they deserve these things and everyone else should just give it to them, baffles me.
@souptin people really don't think before they talk.
@awildrose parents are crazy. His parents sound like my boss and his ex wife. In their eyes their son can do no wrong. So let's all remind ourselves to not be those crazy parents.
@awildrose That kid's parents are not doing him any favors. My BFF had parents like this. They always made excuses and 9 times out of 10 were able to get extensions and grade improvements for her all the way through high school. She ended up dropping out of college after the first year because she couldn't handle the pressure of meeting deadlines and her professors never gave her a break. Love her, but her parents totally screwed her.

I had a friend like this in high school, and not only did she end up dropping out of community college because of the pressure (nothing at all against community college, it's a fantastic resource, but it isn't the highest-pressure situation in most cases), she is known to be very self-centered and hard to work with. She's expecting her first child in May, and her mom recently told my mom that she and her husband know they need to stick close to her and her family, because they know they'll have to help out with her kids so much. Well yeah, you never taught her responsibility or that there are things more important than her!
Ugh, everything about this thread today is reminding me how much I don't like people, haha!
@mrs_tacos In that case, it sounds as though there may be a malicious "friend" among the group. It is such a shame that people would make up completely untrue things about someone they are friends with just to have something to gossip about. I would probably cut off that person from my life if I found out who it was. I can't imagine anyone having good intentions that would fabricate a story like that.
ETA: Also, wtf about the gofundme crap. I can understands gofundmes for people that really need it with medical conditions or paying for funeral expenses. Stuff like this is just ridiculous. And saying that they "know" you have money somehow means they are entitled to it??? F them.

Yeah, as I think about it, I can guess who it probably is. She's always envious of something someone else has. We're moving in a few months, and seeing as I'm not super close to any of these women, with the exception of the one I talked to last night (really more because our husbands are close), I can't imagine keeping in close touch with them anyway. I'm just going to let it go unless it comes up again. I don't need the drama. But I will take any opportunity I get to remind Miss Gossip Pants that I have kept- and continue to keep- her big, possibly life-altering secret for four years. Hopefully that will make her feel really guilty!
@mrs_tacos oh the gofundme stuff irks me. Not only in the situation you mentioned, but in most of them. For instance, a nurse who used to work for me had one made for her infant daughter who was suffering from multiple congenital defects at birth. And people did fundraisers for her (Lularoe etc).
Ok, I understand it's hard to be on 'one' income (I say that because her husband gets retirement pay from the military, but isn't working because of his 'hurt back' (always some excuse) AND she gets $1000/mo that she saves from her dad's pension AND she works AND their medical is fully covered through Tricare. She now has four kids...so basically they didn't want to spend their other incomes why?! Isn't that the reason why we save--for cases like this?! And, if you need money and are asking for it, don't let me know you are buying a new car, getting you nails done, and you be the one buying all the Lularoe in the fundraiser all the while raising money...
Maybe this is an UO, but I just typically don't support things like that. I will graciously give to missions and those who are less fortunate, but it's not my responsibility to pay for your engagement, your trips, your schooling, your way of life....
@jillibean0871 Do we have the same BIL? But seriously what a cunt! Why do people think that once they get KU they can control other's reproductive lives. Some people need to grow up and get over themselves. Not everyone's world revolves around them.
@mrs_tacos that's ridiculous. I'm pretty sure people don't know how to properly use gofundme. I don't have a problem supporting legitimate causes, but there are SO MANY unnecessary and stupid ones. But this guy really sounds like a douchebag, especially to assume that you should be donating money to his wanting to frivolously spend money. Plus to assume he knows your financial status? I probably would have told him where he can shove it! On a lesser scale, this is why I don't post on social media or tell most people what DH does for a living. I've had a few people I hadn't talked to in years just randomly ask if they could have some of DH's buddy passes. Uh no. If they do anything stupid while flying on them, DH is responsible. Like the time DH gave a buddy pass to my brother's ex wife and her brother so they could go to their uncle's funeral.. and her idiot brother got caught trying to fly back with drugs on him. So after that, No more. People are stupid sometimes.
One of the parent's responses was that even adults don't do their work when the boss is away and (essentially) I shouldn't expect my student to do his homework if mom/dad aren't reminding him.
I'm sorry, I don't know what kind of adults you work with, but I'm 100% expected to still do my job to 100% of my ability when my principal is off campus. Of course, I can't reply with that. I just... some parents are nuts with the excuses.
And yes, it terrifies what kind of high school and college experience my students will have that have parents letting them slide all the time. Your stories make me sad. Lazy student expectations make into lazy adults. I don't want mediocre for any of my kids.

WHAT!!! I teach 9th grade and this is just a bananas idea to hear from any parent. These parents need to get with the program and realize that expecting that your students are responsible for their own homework assignments is akin to teaching responsibility to any obligation, and thus is actually doing some of the parenting work for them... there's nothing wrong with parents having access to a list of HW assignments to help keep their kid on track, but the kid is the student so it really is their responsibility.
@divinemsm620 Yep. My head just spun when they sent that response. I just don't get a mindset like that.

Thank you ladies, reading your responses helped me a lot! I'm feeling more and more excited, and we think we may have settled on a name too! Which makes me super happy, and able to picture him more. Hopefully we'll just have a girl someday!
@angeladowns1 I'm glad you're already feeling better! I totally get how you feel. I am so, SO excited about my son, but I still feel a little pang when I see little girl things, knowing I may never have a daughter. It's not really gender disappointment because I'm not disappointed in my son's sex, for me I think it's just a realization that I truly do hope to have both in my life at some point. (Before this pregnancy we were one and done, and we're both already rethinking that.)
@mrs_tacos I already feel the same way about seeing girl stuff and I just found out he's a boy. I really want one of each, so I'm hoping we'll have a girl at some point. But, I really love the idea of this little boy. And I know that if we have a second boy, I'll be excited about that too.
@angeladowns1 Aw I'm so sorry that you are feelings that way, but I don't think it's anything that you should feel guilty about. I also want one of each and I should be finding out the gender tomorrow. I have said throughout the pregnancy that "it doesn't matter as long as baby is healthy" but I would be so so happy if I had a boy. My brother's gf is also having a son a month before I am and I think it would be so cool to have a baby boy. But my daughter is hoping for a little sister! I think this is going to be my last child so it would be great to have one of each.
We all know that we are going to love our babies regardless of the sex. It's okay to feel a bit of disappointment.
Even though you have a lot of what you *need* for the baby, I think indulging in some shopping may be fun for you and your family.
@mrs_tacos@bridge-and-wall I'm having a girl and I am SO excited, but I have those thoughts of "awww..a baby boy" sometimes, too. I told DH before the gender ultrasound I was afraid I would be a little disappointed either way, because I want both!

I totally get that. I REALLY wanted a girl. But now that I'm having a girl, I see all these cute blue sailor/totally boy prints and I'm like man, I can't buy that now! But if it was a boy, I'd be having the same thoughts about the girl bows and stuff.

I think this is more of a WTF?! but it just happened and I'm in shock, so I'm posting this here. I just got a Facebook message from a college friend I have not really kept up with asking if DH and I would contribute to his gofundme campaign to buy an engagement ring for his girlfriend and take her on a celebratory vacation (not their honeymoon, just a vacation). He basically said that he "knows" we have money, and he has been chronically underemployed for years now, and he needs our help to give his girlfriend what she deserves. He also said something about how God wants us to help the less fortunate.
Um, wtf?!? I have never discussed finances with this man ever, so he has no idea what our situation is like, but even if we were millionaires (we are far from it), how tacky is it to message someone and ask them to help pay for a better ring and a vacation?! I also think that's hardly what the Bible is talking about when it says to help the needy. You are trying to buy a diamond not survive another day, dude. I'm just dumbfounded.
I just read on Mashable about a guy (William) that created a GFM to raise money for an engagement ring for his GF (Alexandra) and immediately wondered if it's the college friend who messaged you.

Nope, @Swazzle, different guy! The guy I know is trying to raise $5,000. But it's crazy that there are more guys just like him out there!
This sounds awful snobby, but $5000 isn't even a crazy amount for an engagement ring (dont hate me). Go in to any store and you can finance that probably without interest! And seriously, if he can't save up enough money for a ring or figure out how to pay for it on his own maybe he shouldn't be getting married. If he thinks he can go "adulting" by doing GFM accounts he doesn't sound like a winner to me. Sorry, rant over. These Millenials. Makes me think of that video that went viral awhile back called "adopt a Millenial"
@jessieR358 $5k isn't a crazy amount for a ring?? Heck, we bought my bridal set, DH's ring AND paid for our wedding for $5k. (The honeymoon added more, but still) There are gorgeous rings for well under $5k... so I agree, it's stupid irresponsible to not pay for your own ring and try to use GFM.

I know, that's why I said don't hate me. I figured if your going to set up a GFM account, your going to ask for some crazy absurd amount. There are plenty of beautiful rings for under $5000. I've been looking at rings with my little brother in that price range.
@jessieR358 I get what you're saying. No hate. I just don't understand the need to spend $5k on a ring ESPECIALLY if you don't have that kind of spending budget on your own.

@mrsmarygs we spent like $150 on DH's first ring and he lost it at work, along with two replacements... so now he has one of those silicone Qalo rings a size small so it doesn't come off lol! All together we've probably about the same on all of his rings as he spent in mine lol
@wyomama0427 does your DH like the qalo ring? My DH needs a different ring since his new position has different safety standards so we were looking into those.
My mother in law has this crazy huge 3 carat diamond with three rows of floating diamonds underneath valued at 20k, what she won't tell anyone is that the big diamond part came from her rich ex husband who threatened to beat her and her kids when he got mad and cheated on her a gazillion times. I was like I would have sold the shit out of that and taken a good loooonnngg vacation with the money but you wearing it for your new marriage? Weird...

DH has a Qalo ring for the same reason! He's not allowed to wear any jewelry at work for safety reasons and he lost his original after taking it off one day. He loves the Qalo and since it's not metal, he doesn't have to take it off so no real way to lose it.
Me & DH: 31 | Married: 5.4.13 | TTC: April 2016 | BFP: 1.8.17 | EDD: 9.13.17
@Becky012016 he really loves it, he is a welder so he does a lot around metal and electricity and heat and stuff so he's comfortable wearing it. He probably won't ever own another kind because he likes this one so much.
@lap018 your MIL is too insane. The more I hear about that woman the more I just.... don't have words... lol
@Swazzle yes! DH's fingers are kinda funky, his knuckles are pretty big but the part of his finger where the ring sits is skinny, so when the weather temperature fluctuated it would fall off in his glove and stuff. It was hard to find a ring that would work with his weird bone structure but he got a size down in the Qalo and it has just enough stretch to get over the knuckle but it stays on his finger really well!

Very weird.... but, regardless of the weirdness, I can't imagine having something that big on my hand all the time.
@lap018 I took the diamonds and platinum from my first marriage and turned it into a right hand ring. I've thought about selling it but it's a pretty ring and it has no emotional meaning to me. My mom has suggested many times i should give it to my brother to give to his girlfriend and I'm like uh no. Here take this ring from a failed marriage! Lol sounds like a bad omen.
I feel like the next picture edition GTKY should be wedding rings now!

I worked in jewelry management for 5 years, and now that I'm out of the industry I'll likely never purchase or want DH to purchase jewelry for me again. I have several really nice, expensive pieces, but I paid nickels on the dollar for them. My custom designed wedding set would've cost anyone that walked in about $23,000 retail at the store I worked at, but we paid maybe $4,000 in total. (My original ring was about $2,000 and we upgraded the center stone for a killer deal a few years later.)
Knowing just *how* marked up jewelry is put a real distaste in my mouth towards ever paying even half price. Haha.
