I don't know if it was actually ever true, but there used to be some locations within the US (mostly on the East and West Coast) that were said to be known for doing scheduled C-sections purely for convenience or other non-medical reasons.  Also, I remember years ago there were at least a few celebrities rumored to have had C-sections for very non-medical reasons.  But honestly, there always seems to be incomplete information when hearing some of those stories.  I would hope that most medical professionals use their best judgment when offering any medical intervention.

  • When should we start the hunt for a pediatrician?
I've already started so definitely not too early. I would definitely start now. I actually called a place and they weren't accepting new patients.

  • I think I'm giving off mommy pheromones because small children keep flocking to me. I'm a dance teacher, and today in my toddler class we had several new kiddos who were all enamored with me, as well as my regulars. Usually they take a couple classes to warm up, but I was like a baby Rockstar! Come on and cuddle! Same thing happened at a lularoe party I went to this weekend.
  • I guess this is an UO based on what I've read here, but I have no problem with a dr. scheduling a c-section or induction based on the wishes and health of the mother. If they've reached term and have discussed it with medical professionals, then that's fine.

I don't even care if it's around the Dr.s schedule. Maybe that Dr is one the patient loves and they have confidence in, and wanting a particular Dr. to bring your baby safely into this world isn't the worst thing ever. I switched offices because I couldn't stand one of my potential Dr's and just couldn't imagine giving birth with her.

  • Random. My organization participates in community service (totally voluntary, no pressure- but a fun way to spend 4 hours away from the office and not use PTO). We just got our spring project notice and I'm fairly certain I could manage it... but I won't sign up. Kind of bummed as I normally always sign up. I've simply noticed that being on my feet for any amount of time is so much harder than it used to be! I'm no delicate flower, and I don't want to use my pregnancy as an excuse for not doing community service, but in this case I'm going to. (I highly doubt anyone's going to ask why I don't sign up, but I am friends with the events coordinator and my absence may be noted simply as a "hey, doesn't she normally sign up for this stuff?" kind of thing.)

@dinofreak - I've been joking about this with DH but I feel like i just notice little ones more now that I'm pregnant so they tend to look back if you're paying some attention to them. I've always loved kids but I don't interact with them on a daily basis

While I was in LA this weekend, we were in some pretty busy areas and kids kept bumping into me (one girl even ran up and grabbed my leg) before I noticed them which was a lot more of a coincidence and our friends were making comments about it too because it wasn't happening to anyone else in our group. There's got to be some kind of science behind this.

@Mango517 - I don't necessarily disagree with you. I don't think a doctor should push a scheduled c-section if there's no medical reason, but if it's what the patient wants and asks for, I won't pretend I'm knowledgeable enough to know whether one's safer than the other. My comments were just saying that it is common where I currently live and that I've talked to some women enough to know they, specifically, had no medical reason. I'm not sure it's a full blown UO :)

  • Has anyone had experience using a maternity belt?
  • I broke out my Blanqi leggings yesterday for the first time and man do they help!  I'm not that big yet but the extra support from them are so helpful. Plus they're comfy. Highly recommend them (especially when you don't have to pay full price).  They're wonderful for postpartum too.

  • @aehogan90 I have LLR leggings but they are not comfy for me during pregnancy once I pop nor supportive. Blanqi is various types of supportwear for pregnancy and postpartum.  The leggings I have are high enough that they come up over the belly and have additional support. They have extra support around the thigh area too (at least they seem to for me). Other moms in my last BMB swore by them so I bought them when they were on sale a while ago. Here are the leggings I have https://www.blanqi.com/products/maternity-high-performance-belly-lift-support-leggings?variant=536656729

  • @bumpybump those look super comfy!

Question! I have to sit all day at work, and my back is killing me!  I sit all day, and dont have an option for standing desk.  I am also short, so I dont reach the floor (even with the seat all the way down) if I sit with my back against the back.  I can reach if I sit up but then I have zero back support.  Any suggestions on what I can do to help?

  • @littlebug2010 I used to take my heating pad to work & put it in my chair. I've never used a support belt though.
  • At my appointment yesterday, my midwife really pushed for me to use a belt because my back pain at work is my biggest issue. I bought one and I'm trying it out today. I'm not sure how I feel about it, or really I'm a little unsure if I'm using it correctly. She encouraged me to get one at my 12 and 16 week appointments too, but when I went into BRU to get one the sales person helping me made me feel foolish cause "you're only supposed to get these if you're like really big and you're not even showing." So I didn't get one then.
  • @littlebug2010 You need a footrest! Its the only way that you'll be able get the proper support, with the right ergonomic set up. I see footrests all over the office. They are really essential for some people.

I'm also thinking of getting a memory foam butt pad for my chair, can only help!

That's what I used last time too and it helped a ton!
  • @bumpybump- are the blanqi leggings comfy enough to sleep in? My biggest issue right now is getting sharp pains when I toss and turn at night.
  • @littlebug2010 maybe a lumbar support pad will fit onto your work chair and close some of the gap between your back and the chair?

@erindippity that BRU sales person is a TW.
  • Thank you, everyone, for your ideas. I think I'll try the foot rest (aka the recycling bin I never use, cus i never have paper as I'm a developer), and if I need more I'll put my jacket behind my back. But I may have to invest in something!

@erindippity I have a support belt that I use for running and walking. I honestly should wear it for some shopping excursions and days when I walk more at the office. Yes, it can support the weight of baby but it also just helps hold everything in place a bit better (so it doesn't matter if you're in your first or third tri for that). I bought mine after my OB recommended it at my 12 week appointment when I wasn't showing at all although I bought it online so no opportunity for an uniformed sales person to talk me out of it. My back doesn't hurt from the weight, it's because of the hormones causing our ligaments to relax. For me, i don't like to wear the belt when sitting, it is more for when I am walking but I feel the pain after a long walk/short run even while sitting. It sounds like this can be an issue to a degree for everyone but when I mentioned the serious amount of pain I was in to my OB she said it's only going to get worse so if I feel like this now, use a belt and I may want a girdle and that we should monitor it to see if I need a referral for physical therapy. Prenatal stretches (I've been using yoga ones but I think there are others) have also seriously helped me.

Okay new question for you all. I have always been a person who snores when I sleep, but I didnt do it too badly before getting KU, and I think its becuase I slept on my stomach.  Well these past few weeks have been the WORST, and poor DH has had to sleep on the couch most nights becuase I keep him up.  I am also pretty sure Im fighting a cold and thats adding to the congestion, but nothing seems to be working.  I have breath right strips, I sleep with 4 pillows (I started with two, but that stopped working, so I went to 3, now im at 4), and am basically sleeping upright at this point.  I dont know what to do anymore, but I would like to not wake DH or myself (I will snore so loudly at times, that I startle myself awake) up at night with this!  Anyone have any other ideas?

  • @littlebug2010 Someone posted in the pg about using a white noise machine to drown out the sound of their husband's snoring. Maybe try a cheap white noise machine.

  • @britvahok He tried one (on an app) last night.  I guess my snoring isnt constant, and wakes him up becuase ill be quiet for like 30 minutes and then start for 5, then stop.  We did buy the Skip Hop white noise machine for baby, so he is going to pull that out tonight to see if that helps, but im not going to get my hopes up.

I second this! I went ahead and bought an air sanitizer a year or two ago from Amazon. It is AWESOME. Not only does it help kill germs and filter out allergens, the sound it makes is very soothing--and I can attest that I can still hear a crying baby over the noise. Check it out here:https://www.amazon.com/GermGuardian-AC4825-Cleaning-Sanitizer-Reduction/dp/B004VGIGVY

  • My husband snores and it's a miracle I haven't smothered him with a pillow yet.

It gets way worse in the winter. The dryness from the heater running and lack of humidity in the air can make the snoring horrible. That's why I really recommend a humidifier for next to the bed. Go with a cheap, simple humidifier because I've found they do just as good as a job as the pricey ones. Also, some sort of white noise is a must. I have a fan on at night year round. If things are really bad I do have a container of ear plugs next to the bed that I'll use... but I don't like using them regularly, especially because I know that I'm not going to be able to wear them once the baby is here. We also have an understanding that sometimes someone just has to sleep in a different room if the snoring becomes unbearable.

  • @mango517, @LSP87 and @britvahok.  Thanks for the advice.  I just feel so bad that DH has to deal with this.  Ive been tempted to get one of those stomach laying pillows (the ones with the hole in the middle for your bump), but I just cant imagine that that is comfortable.

  • @littlebug2010 I've always found sleeping on my side reduces my snoring (lifetime snorer over here). I don't know if that helps with you.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @SpotConlon Ive been sleeping on my side, but have been propping my self up more and more.  Do you usually prop yourself up to help reduce the snoring too?  Also is your pillow more firm or soft?  Im just wondering becuase I switched to a new pillow a few weeks ago and am wondering if that might be part of the issue too.

  • @littlebug2010 I just use one pillow that's somewhat firm. I also use a between-the-legs pillow (I'm not sure that helps, but it does keep me more directly on my side). I'm pretty sure I still snore a little bit, but since my tongue isn't falling to the back of my throat like it would when I'm on my back, it reduces the worst of the snoring.

  • @SpotConlon thanks!  I think Im going to (once again) switch out my pillows tonight. I also sleep with a pillow in between my legs (I have a mini snoogle).  Thanks for your help!
