We haven't even thought about it honestly, but this one will be interesting. My H and I each only have one sibling and that is a brother for both of us. For DS his names are our brothers' middle names - which also happened to be family names used across generations. For DD, we have a family name the same on both sides and that is how we came up with hers. We are out of mutual family names and siblings to honor so I'm not sure if we will look to one side of the family or the other to draw from or if this will be a wildcard, so to speak. We do have the names we didn't use with our previous children but I'm not sure if we feel like those are still in play. We typically solidify our choices before the anatomy scan(around 20 weeks) and then refer to the baby by name after that for the rest of the pregnancy.
My ticker says it below but I'll explain a bit. DH and I are big time geek/nerds/whatever and we both decided to go the "geeky" route this time around. DH chose James Tiberius(Capt. Kirk) and I chose Clara(Doctor Who companion). I'm still out on a MN for Clara but so far I like Clara Rose, Clara Lenore or Clara Mae.
@Perfectypo I LOVE that name! DH and I always came up with girl names really easy too, not sure why but we had a hard time agreeing on our boys names. This time around is the first time we agree on names so early.
We solidified this a few weeks ago (but have been talking about names for a few years)
Ethan Joseph
Ethan is a name I have loved for a long time and Joseph is a family name on my dad's side
Sophia Joy Sophia is DH's mom's name who passed away when he was 3 due to melanoma. I can't wait to honor her by giving her grandbaby her middle name! Joy is also my mom's middle name.
We don't have any boy names really but we both like Aiden.
For girls we have Delilah, Clara (also from Dr. Who haha) and Cora. No middles names to go with them. I thought about Rae which was my Nana's name but my cousin named his little girl after her last year so idk how I feel about that now.
We picked middle names but we're struggling on first names. His family does alphabetical names - he's a CD, brother is DE, sister is JK. we want to stick with that tradition. But it's hard coming up with names you love. We will be using our middle names as the first boy/girl's middle name. I have 2 girl names picked but are struggling on a cute C name for a boy (we don't wanna use his) but we're keeping all names a secret til I deliver.
For a boy, I told my husband the name is set in stone. But truthfully we will banter back and forth names for days after baby is born... He isn't arguing the boy name because he is convinced it is a girl.
Our boys list is: - Jove
Girl's List: - Evi - Julie - Shaina - Karina
The middle name really is set, for the most part and will be Reid or Jay- both family names.
DH is insistent that our LO has a family name, meaning that both first and middle name come from mine or his side of the family, preferrably one from each. Sigh. The boy name was easy but the girl name not so much. I HATE all the girl's names on his side and on my side the only girl's names I like are from my Dad's side of the family but I am not close to my Dad and that would really hurt my mom. We are still working on girl's names. DH likes "Ruth" and call her "Ruthie", that was his grandmas name. That's the only one I don't hate, but our last name starts with an "R" and is short and I feel like it sounds odd.
If it's a girl I love Tenley Claire. DD is Ainsley Jane so I feel like they go. For a boy not a freaking clue. There's seriously not a boy name that I like even a little bit...except jack but it's so over used now so not going there
We have talked about this from day one as the name game is very important to us! Our three kids now have one family name and one name that is "theirs." As a former teacher and generally friendly person I feel like I've heard all the names. And, I like for our names to be uncommon, but not necessarily unique.
So far we have: Carys Jo Sawyer Burt James Fowler
I broke my mold with Fowler as he goes by his missle name...I said I would never do that!
We like for their individual name to mean something special in our lives.
I feel like we will have a girl. We are thinking of using a double name begining with Mary...
Mary Allyn Mary Elliott
I hope that no one here will "name shame." Like everything else in life, we all have different preferences. The Name board on TB is not been a very nice place in my experience. I was told with Fowler I should be slapped for even considering that as a name. Haha. I took it in stride. I expected people to say "oh, thats NMS" but not be hateful over a name I like for MY kid. Anyway. I hope you all have fun with names along the way!
@cottingham3 that's pretty rude. If you don't like a name on here then just keep your mouth shut. We're all getting our own babies and can name them what we please, no need to tear down others for the names they love. Especially if we have different ethnic backgrounds, we all may come across names we haven't heard before but that doesn't make them "weird" or "bad". I wholeheartedly agree with you, lets not be rude. Luckily I think we have a particularly pleasant group of ladies on this BMB who aren't into that kind of behavior.
MY DH is convinced it's a boy and is very into traditional names, I like boyish names for girls because I'm more boyish and our kids are going to be growing up on a farm, they're going to have to deal with manure and stuff like that! Guess that's just my thing.
Boys -Henry(my grandpa) -Stanley (my great grandpa) -William(DH Grandpa)
DH and I have such a hard time with names - we both really dislike the other's favorites. Our list of okay for both of us names from last time is probably what we're going to work with this time around. From that, my top choices are Elizabeth and James.
@cottingham3 the names board has been notorious for shooting down anything "different". Don't fret, and I've always been in the "if you love it, use it" camp.
@slaven i hope we can both name our babies Clara!(if they are girls of course)
I love hearing all the names. We just decided on a nickname for our baby while in womb. Baby Row. (I was a rower in college). We have been bouncing names off each other. Love to hear everyone's ideas. We will probably use family names for middle names.
DH and I have been talking names for years If it's a boy then he'll probably be named after DH, as his is a traditional family name (which also happens to run in my family as well). We're not 100% set on it, but DH really liked having the same name as his dad, and we haven't been able to think of as many boy names that we love. For girls we have a few ideas, but will try not to decide until the baby comes.... although I don't know how successful we'll be at that. We like old fashioned and botanical names. @c+mpeachey I love Penelope! Would you call her Penny? Hudson is a good choice too.. Reminds me of the Bruce Willis film Hudson Hawk, which I love @cottingham3 People are suck jerks! I certainly would hope we see no such shameful behavior on this board. I think Fowler is a handsome name! I also have always thought Mary was a lovely name. @jess0211 That's a tough situation... there have certainly been times when I felt like it would be hard to give my son my husband's name because I wasn't sure how much I liked it. Family names can be tough. I love Ruth/Ruthie though!

Me: 33 DH: 32 Started Dating: 2003 Married: 2013 Started TTC August 2016 BFP: 2/1/17 MC: 2/8/17 BFP: 3/8/17 MMC: 5/1/17 BFP: 7/23/17 EDD: 4/5/18 BFP: 2/27/20
I love reading all of these ideas! For our first two, we had a boy and girl name picked out way before we knew who was coming. This 3rd pregnancy was a surprise, so we are totally out of our very-planned-out comfort zone.
We already have Will and Millie.
For a girl, I'm loving Blakely, Claire, Annabelle, and Caroline
For a boy, we are thinking Isaac (which means laughter- which is what we did a lot of when we found out this baby is coming) or Graham.
DD is Kennen (Ken-en, NOT Kee-nan) Ramona. Kennen after a castle in Wales that I visited and fell in love with during a study abroad semester in college, and Ramona after DH's mother.
If this one is another girl, I'm leaning toward Charlotte Catherine. My dad is Charles and my maternal grandmother was Catherine, and we will call her CC. If this one is a boy, which I strongly feel it is, he will be Cody James. Cody after my favorite singer, and one of DH's and my favorite rodeo stars, and James after my maternal grandfather and brother.
Luckily DH's recent family has all already used up the good family names, so I didn't have to argue much with him about using my family names for our kids.
@sarebear55 our DD has DH's mom's middle name as her middle name. DH's mom passed away when he was 7 from a brain aneurysm I love that she gets to share a name with someone so special. And I'm pretty sure Grandma Suzy comes to visit her from time to time. DD is the one who actually told us Grandma said she was getting a baby brother. A week later I got my BFP after a year of TTC.
@Furmommy My DS is Henry I love, love, love that name.
I'm a big old slacker. We haven't even started discussing names yet. Perhaps after my first ultrasound April 4th. I love all the names you guys have picked out.
@Furmommy my name is Bailey although it's spelled differently (thanks mom!). I always loved having a unique name. I have had a lot of people say "oh that's my dogs name!" But whatever, I love dogs so it never bothered me lol
For a girl- Shelby Caroline
We are deadlocked on boys names. I love Elijah and call him Eli. DH hates it. We kind of agree on Beau. But he wants to name him after my FIL and 1) his name isn't my favorite, it's Mitchell, and 2) I really don't like my FIL
For us, we have had all the names for all our potential future picked out for years and years. We have a Jonah If this bean is a girl she will be named Josie Nora Boy- Julian Asa
We always choose 2 names for both sexes because we had decided DD was going to be Adalynn. Then in recovery when we got to see her together we both were like "She's not an Adalynn at all!" And then we had to come up with a new name. So now we always pick 2 for each sex!
For a boy we have:
Parker (stuck on a middle name) Jackson (stuck on a middle name) Christian (stuck on a middle name)
For a girl we are 100% stuck. I just have not loved anything I've seen thus far. I've liked a couple names but nothing I've read has been that name to excite me. Thankfully we have a lot of time. We are Team Green anyway so we have time to think about it.
We have an Abigail (Abby) and a Jacob (Jake or JJ) already so it's also harder to pick a name that flows and sounds good with these two.
DH and I have such a hard time agreeing on names because I like the more funky/unique/modern/"boy" names for girls and he likes the simpler, more traditional names. The ONE name we agreed on was Samantha and we would call her "Sam." But his younger brother and his wife got pregnant first and chose the name Samuel (knowing our name was Samantha) and they want to call him "Sammy." That was a little annoying, only because it's so hard for DH and I to agree but I have half a mind to still use it if we have a girl. Samantha and Samuel are nothing alike and if the have the same/similar nicknames, so what? DH's middle name is Cooper. It's a family name and I like it enough to use, but not quite enough to use as a first name (I'm big into name meanings and "barrel maker" doesn't quite do it for me...). My parents gave my sisters and me all the same middle name so we would have a common name when we got married, ergo we're all "Nicole"s since my parent's favorite boy name was Nicholas but they never had a boy. So I think Nicholas Cooper is our leading boy name right now. To honor my parents and pull a version of my name into him getting his dad's family name, Cooper. Other names we've toyed with include Hannah and David.

We are set too. Been waiting and hoping for quite a while so name picking has helped us get through the process. We are having 2 boys (through surrogacy so that's why we know the sex already) Connor for baby A. My husband's choice. Russell for baby B. My choice, named after my husband's grandfather. Ethan and Thane for middle names. Middle names have the same 5 letters which are our initials. We are a blended family. Widowed in 2011 with 3 kids so these little miracles will know how loved they are by having a little piece of all 5 off us.
@bteam2012 That's so sweet that you are honoring your whole family with your babies' middle names. I'm so glad that your two little miracles are on the way after all of your waiting and hoping.
@bteam2012 I just read your intro, and now this, and I LOVE your story. There's so much hope in it!!! That's definitely what this world needs more of. So glad you're in our BMB.
@BayCamp I love dogs too so that wouldn't bother me! my name is spelled Stefanie and everyone has a hard time with that and it's not that weird! haha oh well
Our son's name is celestial themed. More specifically he's named after a NASA program. I kind of want to stick with the same theme so the leader for a girl is Juno with no MN yet. I have no idea for a boy. I'm not really into some of the other celestial theme names for boys so we'll see.
This time seems to be a lot harder than with DD. With her we had a list of about 4 names for each and then a few weeks before our anatomy scan we narrowed it down to one on each side. The problem is I don't like the other names anymore haha.
My husband really likes Irish names for boys and this are ones I found so far that I may consider but he has his own idea:
Beckett, Kellen, Brady and Gannon.
I also have been trying to come up with names with meanings since this will be our miracle rainbow baby. I found two yesterday that I like: Asher and Tate. Both mean something along along the lines of joy and happiness.
@Tourmalily I LOVE the name Hazel. I'm pretty sure DH told me once that he doesn't, so I don't think it will be on our short list.
I'm almost superstitious about names. It squicks me out to call babies by name before they're born. (Everyone is entitled to their own feelings about this, obviously. Your baby, your rules.) I won't want to have anything totally narrowed down until the baby is born. I do have a favorite name for a boy and a girl right now, but when it comes down to it, I don't actually know if DH will go for them.
DS has a hyphenated last name that we went round and round on when I was pregnant. I didn't change my name and I'm not going to take my husband's name just to make it easier. But sometimes I do dream of just taking a whole new name as a family and I'm sure I'll bring that up again to his dismay lol
Omg you ladies are way ahead than I thought. I have no clue what I will name him or her and have not even given it a thought. Last time we did not start name picking until trimester three and I think it will probably be the same this time. I guess we are just lazy lol!
@JDW0325 Hahahahaha, how did I not think of that?! Well I think Harvey might just have to get put on the list now... it'll be funny to see what DH says when I suggest it, he is a huge fan of the show as well, but I have no idea what he thinks of the name. Thanks for the suggestion
