I wouldn't say I'm nervous about changing a diaper. I just have never done it. The first time I'll probably make a mess, but it can't be that hard, right?? Diaper changing is probably my least worry... I have to keep this kid alive! Haha
DS was 21 months old when we brought our twins home. We had gotten him a baby doll and some big brother books. DH involved him when setting up the cribs and I let him help pick out some decorations for their room. He was pretty indifferent about them in the begining. Honestly they slept alot and I tried to keep his schedule consitant, we really tried hard not to say we couldn't do stuff because of the and DH was crazy about referring to them by name and not saying babies. The twins are 21 months now and definantly not grasping any idea of what a baby means or there being a baby in my belly. But at least they seem excited for their big brother to move into their room.

That's such a good point! I need to start a list of little things like this to keep in mind. Her little world is going to be turned upside down and I don't want to do or say anything that makes her resent the baby. She'll be staying home with me while I'm on maternity leave and I still want to keep her scheduled as consistent as possible but also have fun things to do planned since it'll be summer and she won't be stuck at daycare and me at work.
This may be better served in the symptoms thread, but I hope it is okay here, too. My husband had some pretty major oral surgery this morning. I was sitting in a rolly chair at his feet for support. I suddenly got really hot and dizzy, then the dizziness went away but my vision was really fuzzy. The next thing I knew, I was on the floor with the nurses, dentist, and receptionist hovering over me. I hit my head and shoulder (my head started bleeding a bit), but I don't think I landed in my stomach. I think I was passed out for about 10 seconds. My doctor wants me to come in this afternoon to check everything out. She said that they will hook me up to a reactivity test and probably the sonogram machine. I think everything is okay, but the doctor being concerned is making me a little nervous.
Husbands leaving stuff open: My DH is the same way. I will walk into the kitchen and every single drawer and cabinet he used is open. It drives me crazy. He also always leaves the closet door open, and one time left the front door of our house open and ajar. I was convinced we had a secret raccoon living in our house. He also left his car door wide open overnight and a neighbor had to come let us know. Also could have had a secret family of raccoons living in his car. lol He's left the garage door open, and countless other things. I always have to check everything myself before bed to make sure things are locked and closed. He's a great guy, but goodness he can drive me crazy sometimes.
Changing diapers: I had changed plenty of diapers before having DS1, yet never one of a newborn. And I remember being so scared of doing it myself for my own baby. Silly, but the truth. Day had never held a newborn or changed a diaper, and he was terrified, but leaned very quickly. He was also super duper poop-phobic before kids, and got over that very quickly. Poop is just a part of parenthood, whether we like it or not!

Oh my goodness! That is scary. I got crazy dizzy over the weekend. I didn't pass out, but I thought I was going to. I hope you and little one are okay!
I have a friend who exclusively breastfed and says that she is in charge of input, her husband is in charge of output, haha. I definitely did my share of diapers but I like that way of thinking
@AdaByron Yes, yes, and yes to Happiest Baby on the Block video. I didn't watch it until DD was about 4 weeks old and it saved our lives. Our swaddling technique sucked before that.
@mslynn2012 I was just getting home and going for a nap after my test when you posted that!
The drink itself wasn't bad, but I wasn't expecting to feel lightheaded about 30 mins into my waiting period. Apparently it's pretty common, but I hadn't seen anyone in the June forum mention it so I'm glad my husband was with me because I would not have felt comfortable driving myself home afterwards. I feel much better after sleeping for a bit, but some women said it affected them the rest of the day.
@NutellaToast Fainting can be so scary! Hope your feeling better! I used to have fainting spells and it's really unsettling, but never while pregnant. Make sure to stay hydrated and eat before you go out, drinks with electrolytes help. it's normal your doctor wants to make sure everything is fine, I don't think nothing to be nervous about, just looking out for the best of you and baby.
This may be a UO but I've had both fruit punch and orange flavored glucose drinks and they aren't that bad. There's a lot of sugar and I hate how it makes me feel but I don't mind the taste.
I'm a little freaked out by needles. Like I'm usually fine if I just don't look, but I would definitely faint if I had to watch a blood draw. Today when the nurse drew my blood for the GTT she warned me that they sent them the wrong needles and they were bigger than normal. I didn't really know what that meant and I was like NBD I don't plan on looking at it anyway. Well, as soon as she stuck my arm I heard her say "oh shoot, I'm so sorry.... these darn needles... I got blood everywhere.... you have such a nice big vein, it's just gushing out..." and she just went on and on apologizing. I managed to just keep looking at the ceiling, but I'm surprised I didn't black out from her description.
@AdaByron - omg that's terrible! I would have been like, "Nope. Call me when you get the regular ones." At my next appointment I have THREE needles coming my way.
@AdaByron that would have been it for me... I dont do well with needles or blood. I thought after all these years and having kids I'd get used to it but nope. Totally grosses me out
@AdaByron omg that's a nightmare!! I share the needle phobia and this makes me woozy to read.
@ginger1228 I had three needles today. She insisted on using the same arm and the pricks were millimeters apart. I'm sore and wish I'd asked her to change arms the third time - that one really hurt!
Good news was no GD for me, though! Then a quick ultrasound showed baby is head down (I know that can change) and no signs of pre-term labor. It was a good visit!
Just got a call from my OB office. Apparently I failed the one-hour glucose test. I guess I'm not surprised, but I am really disappointed and nervous. It's hard enough to miss work for quick appointments since I'm trying to save up my sick days...a 3+ hour appointment is so much worse. It also sucks that I had to wait like 3-4 business days to even get my results. I guess I'm just feeling a little down about it all. Sorry for the whine fest.
@virginiaunicorn11 yay for good results! And a bonus ultrasound to boot.
My test was negative for GD too. My midwife also measured fundal height. I was looking at the charts that plot FH versus gestational age. I'm wondering how predictive they are for birth weight - I didn't think to ask her at the time. If accurate, right now I'm charting for another 9 pound baby. I really thought this was going to be a smaller baby than my last but my bump literally came out of nowhere in the last 2 weeks. I also gained quite a bit since my last visit, grumble grumble, grumble. Must try harder to eat well.
@lanie1000 - blech. I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you pass the next one. But I hear ya on missing work. I have time saved up but that's not how I want to spend it!
@lanie1000 oh I'm sorry! I hope you pass the next one.. my mums entire side is diabetic so I'm also concerned I have had two A1C tests done (one at 8 weeks and one a few weeks ago). Il be testing at home so let's see how that goes! Let us know how the second one goes.
@caribbeanmama how does the charting work? I'm really hoping for a 8-9 lb baby .. I can only hope/pray lo
@busyzee sorry charting is probably a confusing word. Essentially you can pull up the growth charts (as you would for an infant or toddler) that give lower and upper bound curves and average fundal height as a function of gestational weeks (it also plots weight). So I just compared my values that I have so far to get the curve that I'm on and read off the 40 week number for weight. I haven't done a ton of research to source out the best chart. Let me dig a little before posting a link.
on edit: why do you want a 9 pound baby? You know there is more or less only one way out, right? Barring surgery...
@JulyBaby17 and @LM1007 Thanks! Everything looks okay with the baby and the various fluids and sacs and whatnot. I am supposed to monitor movement and discharge for the next few days, but everything should be okay. I have a pretty good cut on my head, but the doctor didn't think it needed stitches. He thinks it was a reaction to stress, not a blood sugar thing. Thanks again for the good wishes!
@caribbeanmama please do share the chart with me whichever one you decide on:) I would love to know where I'm at. Haha I just want a chubbier baby, it's purely for that reason!I was close to 9 lbs and my mum says I was much easier to handle, feed, sleep etc but who knows why?.

Okay. I can't bite my tongue on this one. Really?! A bigger baby does not at all determine how "easy" they'll be. Not to mention you can't really control how much or how little your baby gains as they're growing. Unless you're starving yourself.
@BusyZee the size at birth does not depict how chubby they will be. My son was 6'6 and he is the biggest chunk and still is at 17 months. Hes been wearing 24 months to 2t for the past 8 month because nothing fit over his thighs.
I will say the bigger the baby the less "fragile" they do feel when they are born but size does not really matter as long as they are healthy
DD was 7lb 5oz and then was a Michelin man until she started walking and being a picky ass toddler and now she's a skinny mini. Give me a skinny squirt any day for delivery...I'll try and fatten them up after. But NOT for delivery.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
A family friend who is small, 5-foot nothing, wears girls size clothes and weighted *maybe* 90-lbs when she got pregnant ended up having to have a vaginal cut down because her baby was too big, but they couldn't do a c-section due to the head already being too far engaged. She had an almost 9 pound baby. Baby ended up in the NICU and she was in the hospital for a week-10 days. Bigger babies aren't always better.

Do I dare ask WTF this is??? My sister is not a small person, and her 8.12er got stuck during her induction and she needed a c-section, but that still sounds less terrible than a "vaginal cut down"!

@GlitterFish@PurplePoppy424 They are EXTREMELY rare. My mom worked in L&D for a long time and never saw one done, but knew of the procedure. This friend was the first time she had ever heard/known someone that had had it done.
