This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say, and treat this like an ongoing conversation.

GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone?
TTGP is soooo quiet lately. I don't participate in the daily threads anymore really, but it makes me sad for everyone else!
Diagnosis (If you've been): Mild MFI and PCOS
Cycle/CD: 9/25 (7dpo)
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) We started Metformin this cycle and I'm up to the full dosage because I have barely had any side effects (so far) which is great.
How are things going? I'm itching to test, because I so badly want to be the special snowflake who is about to jump to IVF and gets KU on their own.
Any questions? I'm trying to plan a couple things for the summer (my 30th birthday being one) and I am reading conflicting info regarding IVF and alcohol. For those who have discussed this with their docs and/or done IVF, what did your doctors say about alcohol and treatments? I read one medical study where more than 4 drinks a week reduced the IVF success pretty significantly... but all it said was that they started "at the beginning of the IVF cycle". What is the beginning?? BCPs? Stims? Halp!!
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone?
I play this ridiculously stupid game called Cooking Fever. I downloaded it after our loss because I needed a mental distraction and I'm addicted. Also, I love Instagram.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) on our own
How are things going? mmmm waiting on AF so we can get another medicated cycle going!
Any questions? nope... just trying not to let the BSC in with my chart. I am not a SS, I am not a SS
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? my calculator... I love it. and I<3 that when you turn it side ways it becomes a scientific calculator... I know I'm a nerd!

@hartmich I am curious about that too, I just assumed I would have to abstain from alcohol once treatments started but I haven't asked. Glad to hear your not having side effects!
Diagnosis (If you've been): low ovarian reserve
Cycle/CD: 15/15
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): not sure, I went to the RE on Friday, and she couldn't find a mature egg on the ultrasound so she assumed I had already ovulated, but then my blood work came back and she said I hadn't. I am being retested on Friday.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Just started, will most likely start medications next cycle if we can get all of the tests done in time.
How are things going? OK... I feel ok about what we are doing but still sad. I also had to have a biopsy done on two masses in my breast on Friday afternoon so all in all it was a pretty rough day.
Any questions?
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? Instagram probably, I am always on it.
@hartmich when I asked my RE said that 2-3 glasses of wine per week were fine as long as it wasn't habitual and I wasn't drinking to inebriation. When we started stims, a glass of wine beforehand really helped. But for the FET I stopped drinking last week, about 30 days before my scheduled transfer.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) FET of a beautiful PGS normal embryo
How are things going? I had my baseline this morning so it feels like we're finally getting the ball rolling on this cycle. But I have a cysts on both ovaries so still waiting for blood test results before we get the green light. I got confirmation from my doctor that my eggs are of poor quality. But as an offer of encouragement she pulled up my embryo stuff and talked about how beautiful it is. She is confident that we are putting in the stickiest bean.
Any questions? Other IVFers....did you give up coffee? I feel so guilty that I have not been able to give up this one vice.
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? I'm lame and use my phone for work so probably my email app.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Testing mostly and consulting with the RE. I have the insulin resistance test on Wednesday, and we'll go back to the RE for our final consult regarding the IUI at the end of March.
How are things going? Feeling much better than over the past 4-5 months. Guessing that the fact that we are going to do something different (IUI) soon gives me hope again, that with that we have some chance. Trying to ride that wave strongly, but not to get ahead of myself and the real chances in the same time. So far so good

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) H on clomid, waiting for results from blood work to see if FSH went up.
How are things going? I am super nervous about the results of H's blood work. We should find out today or tomorrow. I thought he would definitely stay on the clomid for a full three months before repeating the SA. However, the urologist said if his FSH hasn't gone up, there is no point in continuing the clomid because clearly his brain isn't telling his junk to overproduce sperm. So if FSH isn't up, then our only shot at getting any sperm is by going through a TESE. I had my first anxiety attack on Thursday. I've never had one before. My friend IRL, the only other person I know that has MFI as severe as MH does, is also going through this and they finally made the decision not to do the TESE and therefore not have biological children. I think the combination of not realizing this clomid was our hail mary before the TESE and her telling me they decided not to pursue the TESE sent me into the anxiety attack. I logically understand why we wouldn't continue the clomid, but I just didn't realize I would need to be making the decision on the TESE this early. I thought I had until May. Soo FX for FSH to have gone up and we can continue clomid until May and do the repeat SA.
Any questions?
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? Ugh this stupid game called Best Fiends. Its like candy crush addicting. They have challenges as well as the regular game and I just. cant. stop.
@hartmich TTGP is quiet! I don't participate in them anymore either, but sometimes I buzz through a day here and there to stalk a few people and I am amazed that there will only be 25 posts for the day! It used to be like that before 8am! I have also read a lot of studies and probably garbage online posts about how alcohol can negatively affect IVF. So my advice would be moderation! @MrsJ2410 Sorry to hear about the biopsy. I also had a biopsy once and the wait to find out the results was torture. I hope everything turns out to be nothing! @tamalahoops Hoping for the best for you this cycle and the stickiest of beans! I don't have a plan for my IVF yet, but thinking of it this summer. I think a small cup of coffee is fine. I personally gave it up but more so because of my heart conditions rather than IVF.

How are things going? Just waiting on appointments and trying to stay busy. Part of me hopes I O this cycle early (for me) because it will show that my efforts are working. But then part of me hopes it holds off since I'm not meeting with the RE that I'm really counting on until 4/6, and part of me doesn't want to miss the opportunity to get started with her right away by having to wait yet another cycle. The waiting is driving me nuts and it takes everything in my power to not fall down a spiral of Google searches and self-diagnoses. I'm just so eager to DO something already!
Any questions?
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? My Plate. I use it to log meals/calories/steps for my PCP and dietitian. I hate that my answer is still somewhat fertility related lol so I also use Pinterest a lot!
@hartmich No advice regarding IVF and alcohol, however I understand how tough it can be to plan ahead for much of anything right now with all of this going on. I've had a few requests to travel this summer for long weekends, etc. but am afraid of it possibly interfering with treatments. And it's challenging to explain to people that the appointments are so frequent and that schedules are so often out of your control.
@wabash15 I know this is of no help but I hope you are, in fact, a SS! If not, at least you're all set for a medicated cycle next month.
@tamalahoops I'm hoping these weeks fly by for you and that your embryo is sticky as can be!
@JuneRoseRuby Hugs. I hope his FSH levels have increased. I'm sorry you are going through this. Try to take the news one piece at a time, as impossible as that advice likely feels (I cannot take it myself so I understand). Remember that if you need until May to make a decision regarding the TESE that realistically you can still take that time for yourself. I really hope you can continue on Clomid, however, and that you don't even have to face that discussion.
@magnolia131 Yes it's so frustrating! And with PCOS I'm like, well it depends on when AF shows, which could be within a range of 7 days! And 7 days in term of IF treatments is like a lifetime.
@wabash15 It would be so amazing. Pleasepleaseplease universe!
@juneroseruby Hugs!!! I know this can't be easy but I saw a quote this morning that really stuck and your post reminded me of it... "You've already made it through 100% of your worst days." So just keep reminding yourself that you and your H are toughing this out and give yourself some credit sometimes. And no matter what the results are, don't pressure yourself to make a decision right away if you're not ready... you can still take some time.
@hartmich I don't have any concrete advice about the drinking, as we haven't gone through IVF yet, and I am also not a drinker. What I can offer is what I've learned from others in other areas of this website who are/have gone through IVF already. And what I've learned is that some doctors say, hell no, no alcohol/caffeine/yadda, and others are more lax. I think the best route to take is to speak with your doctor, and get their point of view. But I'm in the same boat, I hope we BOTH are SS who get KU before IVF!
@wabash15 Your chart looks good lady! Fx so hard for you!
@MrsJ2410 Geez I am really sorry to hear about everything you are going through. I'm praying for you that the biopsy's come back normal.
@tamalahoops Like I told @hartmich, I personally haven't gone through IVF yet so not sure what my doctor would say about caffeine/coffee, but what I've heard through the grapevine varies. I know of one woman who had to give it up entirely, while another had to cut it down to one cup a day. Probably whatever your doctor recommends!
@JuneRoseBaby I'm sorry about the anxiety attack. Going through IF is so so difficult, and it's so scary to hear about other people's decisions regarding IF, especially IRL. Because it touches so close to home. Don't give up hope yet. I'm holding out hope that things work out with your H's FSH, and he can continue on Clomid until May!
@magnolia131 IF is such a wait. It's almost ALL waiting. Waiting for tests, waiting for O, waiting for AF, waiting to get KU! It's seriously the worst, I hear you.

How are things going? We are T-minus three weeks until our new insurance kicks in. Which is very exciting. We've been waiting since January for this new insurance to kick in. We wanted to start IVF right away, but now due to some family issues it looks like we have to push it off until June. I made the decision, and H is on board, but it still saddens me a bit. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait!

How are things going? I just wrote most of this on another thread so my apologies for those who are reading it again. I'm just okay. I'm physically not feeling great and getting headaches at least once a day. I'm foggy and tired. I just don't feel right. Emotionally/ mentally I don't think we will get more than 3 eggs again this cycle. At my Thurs appt they said I had a few small ones in addition to the measurable three but they didn't report that on Sunday. I'm curious to what they see at tomorrow's appt.
Every turn I can't help but think this is such a waste and its never going to work. I would put all the work, effort, money, time etc in the world in if I knew it would eventually get us pregnant but we don't know that so it just all feels so stupid. Wah.
Any questions? For my headaches I'm taking Tylenol. How much per day can I safely take? I'll ask my nurse when I talk to her tomorrow but was curious if anyone has an answer.

@laurad75 I'm sorry to see that you're having a hard go both physically and mentally. I really do have my FX that your eggs, regardless of quantity, are of amazing quality. I get the fear of this all being for nothing. Anyways I'm definitely rooting for you and hope you feel better/less foggy soon.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) HSG on Thursday.
How are things going? It's been a struggle the last 10 days or so. Last cycle was a complete mindf---. Even factoring in the potential that FF was off a day on O, AF still seemed like it was late. So it got my hopes wayyyy up and then crushed them. Even though I kept trying to tell myself to calm the F down, I still got all excited and since H and I were apart for a few days, I had planned how I would tell him, and was planning November and, and, and... You know. So not only was I not pregnant, it meant that I was definitely doing the HSG (which I have myself good and freaked out for), and *TW* that I officially wouldn't be KU by my due date. Which was today. The one good thing about AF being later than expected is that it pushed it to where I could schedule my HSG when H would be in town. It just seems like the experiences are so varied from it smarted a little and then I went shopping to I spent the rest of the day in bed. The extra crappy news is that FF finally got pissed and now has a 3-day block for possible O dates, and this whole cycle being so dang long has pushed next cycle, which should be my first IUI, and if anything pushes it any later, we'll have to push it off one more cycle because I'll be out of town.
Any questions? Any HSG tips? Anyone want to tell me that it's no big deal? Even if it's a big lie?

@kiki75 If I can make it through the HSG, you can And I thought it hurt like a bitch but once it was over, the pain was over. I walked out and drove myself home, etc.
@eggplantface I can't believe your ER is over already! (Although I'm sure this has felt like eternity for you). How did the stims go? FX that the PGS goes well. We're debating the PGS... I need to ask for more clarification but my RE was like "oh PGS doesn't increase your odds of success" but that makes no sense to me.
@laurad75 I've often said that if someone could just promise me that at some point, we'll have a baby, I'd be okay. But there are no guarantees I guess. I still have hope for you for this cycle that some of those small follies will catch up and even if they don't, it only takes one. That should be your motto.
@mrsdaddario Thanks for the info! I'd be totally fine giving up alcohol, I just don't want to bring my life to a screeching halt if it's for nothing, you know? Here's to hoping neither of us will have to worry about that though!
@kiki75 My HSG was no big deal. It felt like a pap smear. I took advil before bc they told me to but I barely felt anything. Everyone is different but I feel like I have read more experiences like mine than painful.
That being said, if you google 'does an HSG hurt' you will find the answer you are looking for.

@kiki75 I'm so sorry last cycle was such a MF. Hugs girl. for me the HSG is NBD and I've done it twice. The first time I just took ibuprofen ahead of time, My current RE had me come in for an injection of ibuprofen prior to the HSG and again it wasn't any worse than a pap. Even if it does hurt its short and then its over. You can do this! @KristoKekerooni GL this cycle. if you do have IUIx2 we have had 2 ladies have great success with that!

The extra crappy news is that FF finally got pissed and now has a 3-day block for possible O dates
@kiki75 Wait, everyone doesn't automatically have a 3 day O block on FF!?! I have always had a 3 day block and I definitely thought that everyone did. The things I learn... Anyway, as to the HSG, I'll be honest, mine hurt - and not just for a few minutes. However, I drove myself to work right after and made it through the day.
@hartmich It has been seriously quiet lately. I too have stopped paricipating in most of the daily threads and only make appearances here and there, but volume in general is way down.
@MrsJ2410 I am sorry you're feeling down. I hope you feel better soon, and that all went well with the biopsy.
@tamalahoops Glad the ball is finally rolling, and FX so hard for a sticky embryo!
@JuneRoseRuby I'll be thinking of you and hoping the bw results are good news and the Clomid is working!
@eggplantface So happy to hear you have 3 fertilized eggs! FX the PGS testing goes well and you get good news with the blast report!
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Just waiting on test results...and a little more testing.
How are things going? Our RE consult last week confused me more than ever, but I think we have a plan. My ultrasound was mostly fine, but confirmed ovulatory dysfunction. My lining on CD10 was way thinner than it is supposed to be, which really wasn't surprising considering how late I generally ovulate. H went back for another SA on Thur, so we're awaiting those results to determine whether his bumped count was a fluke. After that, he gets an ultrasound and a follow up with the urologist.
H is really not interested in going straight to IVF and wants to try IUI first. I guess I'm fine with that, but I won't lie, I'm not terribly optimistic. Research indicates that IUI may not be very helpful for morph/motility issues, and logically that makes sense, so I don't want to try this more than a couple of times. Our RE planted this idea and is completely on board, so H is using that to bolster his argument. She also wants to skip Clomid and go straight to injectibles to "give us the best shot" and avoid potential thinning of my lining (already an issue). I wish I were more hopeful, but I just can't help feeling like this is going to be wasted time and money. If I'm wrong, I'll be thrilled, and, if I'm right, I guess the silver lining is that it will ease H's mind to know we tried it.
We'll see what the urologist has to tell us, I guess. I'm just so sick of feeling like I'm standing in quick sand going no where.
Any questions?
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? Hands down the Kindle app. I use it to surreptitiously read during work.
@zwink1 Did your RE give you any specifics regarding your chances with IUI? Mine told us with H's SA numbers (slightly low count of 11mil/ml, 2% morph) that we'd have at best a 15% chance with IUI. And that could change obviously depending on counts after the wash.
@kristokekerooni I'm hoping to hold out until Friday, which is 11dpo.
Cycle/CD: cycle..Maybe 15 or 16 I don't even know. CD11
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): wto
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) First round of clomid. Go in for ultrasound on Wednesday and possible trigger shot that day.
How are things going? Ok. Other than the lack of sex this week. DH does know it's THE most important thing but apparently that doesn't make a difference.
Any questions? Anyone do Novarel trigger shot? What if the eggs aren't ready will they call me back for another or make me do the shot on my own?
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? Probably Facebook...But solitaire is a close second
@Kiki75 I took two Advil before my HSG and it wasn't too bad at all. Good luck!!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) on our own/waiting for RE appointment 5/15
How are things going? Eh. I was all optimistic this cycle but I'm starting to lose hope again. TW one of my best friends is having her second baby next week and she started TFAS 7 months after I did. End TW. Just getting super bummed lately and anxious to see the RE and get some answers.
Any questions? Nope but I'm so grateful for this thread. I've learned so much from you ladies already so if we end up going the IUI or IVF route I feel like I have so much information already about it.
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? Probably my Goodreads or Nook app. I read a lot. Or maybe Amazon.

@hartmich, to be honest, I really like our RE, but I tend to take her estimates with a grain of salt and therefore I usually forget what exactly she said... I also think she can be overly optimistic. I may be misremembering what exactly she said, but for some reason I think she quoted as high as 30% with IUI with injectibles. I know I'm not misremembering her quote of 60% with IVF (which also struck me as high).
It was a pretty small sample size, but for H's current combo of issues (not utilizing his count that is *FX* bumped), the success rate of IUI was 8%. H's motility is slightly better than the sample parameters, but his morph is worse.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) I'm not sure yet, but I think probably femara + injectables + trigger + TI + progesterone. **TW** That's what we did last cycle and I had an early MC. I'm just waiting for my HCG level to go back down before I can start treatment again. I don't ovulate on my own, so the RE said I can start treatment as soon as my levels are back down and the US and BW show my body's not doing anything as per usual. **End TW**
How are things going? I'm excited that I might be back trying this week, depending on how my appointment later this week goes.
Any questions? When you're starting a cycle, does your OB/GYN do baseline BW and US? Mine usually does, but my appointment Wednesday is only for BW. I'm wondering if that means if my BW looks good, if they'll have to pull me back in for an US before I can start meds. Ugh.
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? The notes app. Does that count? I'm so boring, but I use the notes app to organize just about everything. Grocery list, workouts for the week, reminders, etc., etc.
@MrsJ2410 Sorry to hear that you had to get biopsies done as well. How stressful on top of IF testing and TTC. I hope all your tests turn out okay and you can start treatment soon to get KU! @tamalahoops Yay for a beautiful embryo!! FX it's a sticky one! @juneroseruby Sorry to hear about the anxiety attack. Thinking of you and hoping everything goes well with your H's BW! You'll have the BW soon and can then move forward from there. FX for good news! @mrsdaddario That's crazy you O'ed on your own again! That's too bad you have to push your IVF out; you've been waiting so long for your insurance to kick in. Hopefully the one June IVF does the trick for you. @laurad75 The not knowing is the hardest part. It would be so much easier if we knew when it would happen and what would finally do the trick. I feel like I've been planning my life around IF treatment and getting KU, and it starts to get upsetting when month after month you fail. It's so difficult to stay positive through all this. I'll think positively for you. :-) @leekat14 I haven't done a Novarel trigger shot. Depending on how big your follicles are and what your BW looks like, they'll either call you back for another US or have you do the trigger shot on your own. For example, if you have no follicle growth, they might change your medication (prescribe more), and have you come back in to see if that worked. If your follicle(s) are growing but small, they might have you wait a few days and then come back in to see if they've grown more. If they're growing but not quite as big as they need to be, but it seems they're growing and almost there, they might ask you to wait a day or two and then trigger on your own. @shortstack930 It's so difficult to see other people surpass you on the baby front... I use the Goodreads app all the time too! Reading is one thing that helps get my mind off IF, and I've been reading more than ever lately.
@zwink1 I know you're still finishing testing, but remind me, if your H's count is still low are you planning to do any treatments for him (like clomid) to improve it before doing IUIs? Personally, I wouldn't do more than one or two without doing some kind of intervention for him. We did three IUIs before working with the urologist and I consider them to have been a waste of time given how low his counts were. In fact, the last two the REs said both times, "You really should see a urologist." (Honestly, we only did three because we were experimenting to see if his count would get better. It did not, obviously.) That's all anecdotal, of course. Just my thoughts coming from a similar experience.
@leekat14 your RE won't trigger you till your follies are ready. Often it's good to go after your follie check but sometimes they need to grow a bit more. If that's the case you usually get checked every other day. @madspunk my REs have only ever done an US... so I would expect it your blood work looks good that you would come back for an US. GL!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) natural cycle/Next steps with RE April 12
How are things going? Bad. Got the results of our repeat testing last week and found out there is pretty much no chance of natural conception and that my AMH is on the low side of normal so the RE would anticipate 5 or so eggs during an IVF cycle
Any questions?
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? Facebook
@Bababatty, yes, we are planning on doing treatment for him. We haven't scheduled anything with our RE yet and won't until his urologist gives the go ahead. Depending on what this last SA shows, I think the urologist has a couple of different ideas (Clomid being one of them). Either way, he has to go in for the u/s and bw to see if they can figure out what's causing the drop in numbers to try to treat it. All necessary and worthwhile, but also what's making me feel like we're standing still even though I know we're not.
@zwink1 Ah ok, that's what I figured. I completely understand how it feels like you're not really moving forward, especially when working on the MFI treatments. I can tell you from my experience it has gone by very quickly, but we had the distraction of the holidays. I hope you're able to find some distraction, too! Good luck with the rest of the tests!
@LadyMillil I'm so sorry for the bad news. Hugs. It only takes one emby but IVF is a lot to go through for low numbers. Are you still going to give it a try?

@hartmich TTGP is quiet!

That being said, if you google 'does an HSG hurt' you will find the answer you are looking for.

Cycle/CD: 16/4
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? Hands down the Kindle app. I use it to surreptitiously read during work.
@kristokekerooni I'm hoping to hold out until Friday, which is 11dpo.

GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? Probably my Goodreads or Nook app. I read a lot. Or maybe Amazon.

IF history:
TTC #2 since January 2016
June-Aug 2017: 3 IUIs w/Clomid = BFN
Sept 2017: Dx w/Endometriosis
Oct 2017: IUI w/Letrozole = BFN
Nov 2017: IUI w/Letrozole = BFN
Dec 2017: pre-IVF testing
Jan-Feb 2018: IVF--17 eggs retrieved, 13 fertilized, 9 frozen and 1 transferred on 2/10 = BFP on 2/19!!! EDD 10/29/2018
FET Oct 2021: BFP on 10/31! MC at 5 weeks
FET Feb 2022: BFP on 2/15! EDD 10/29/22
This study is what I was referencing above. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2700665/
It was a pretty small sample size, but for H's current combo of issues (not utilizing his count that is *FX* bumped), the success rate of IUI was 8%. H's motility is slightly better than the sample parameters, but his morph is worse.
All that said, 8% is still 8%!
Cycle/CD: month 14/cycle 5/CD 11
**TW** That's what we did last cycle and I had an early MC. I'm just waiting for my HCG level to go back down before I can start treatment again. I don't ovulate on my own, so the RE said I can start treatment as soon as my levels are back down and the US and BW show my body's not doing anything as per usual. **End TW**
GTKY: Besides The Bump or Fertility Friend, what's the most used app on your phone? The notes app. Does that count? I'm so boring, but I use the notes app to organize just about everything. Grocery list, workouts for the week, reminders, etc., etc.
@leekat14 I haven't done a Novarel trigger shot.
@madspunk my REs have only ever done an US... so I would expect it your blood work looks good that you would come back for an US. GL!
