Sleep Trouble?..What are you doing for it?

Ive been an on and off stalker here...so sorry to post out of the blue.  Is anyone having trouble sleeping? You would think with my third kiddo on the way I would have this down...but it seems I can't sleep.  This last Saturday I was super active and then exhausted.  I went to bed at 9pm and then was up at midnight....period. Any ideas?

    Unisom is safe during pregnancy
  • +1 to Unisom. Pregnancy insomnia is no joke. Without it I would probably lie awake most nights. That doesn't work when you have a toddler.

  • Thank you for posting this I almost did the other day I'm wide awake every time I switch positions or get up to pee then I start thinking or get hungry lol
  • Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. @Carebella does it knock you out? My husband is home thankfully so he can help.  But generally how long does it help you sleep?
  • Generally within an hour of taking it I'm ready to crash. And I'm typically out for 8-9 hours!

The active ingredient in MOST Unisom is the same as Benadryl (diphenhydramine), so if Benadryl has made you drowsy in the past, it may help now. It's also MUCH cheaper to buy on Amazon under the ingredient name. This is what I have have purchased in the past (I had a dog with skin problems)  https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001X45QII/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Unfortunately a normal dose doesn't make me sleepy, I don't want to double it up while pregnant. So I've been staring at the ceiling a lot :(

ETA: You can also by it by the 100 bottle, not just the 1000 :P
  • Add me to the unison train... it and B6 together at night actually help my nausea, too. It doesn't make me sleepy, and doesn't leave me feeling groggy in the morning, but it does help me sleep better (still not the best sleep I've ever had, but better).

  • Agree with PP on the unisom! It worked wonders with me and DD.

Now I'm up a lot of the night from having to pee a thousand times!!
  • Unisom, FTW. I have the most annoying combination of complete exhaustion during the day (with an almost 1 yo DD, LOL) and insomnia at night.
  • I've had insomnia off and on since I was a teenager and had been doing really well for awhile until pregnancy insomnia hit a few weeks ago. My OB said I could take benadryl, but I know from past experience it makes me groggy but doesn't actually make me sleep, which just makes me feel even worse in the morning! I've been trying to work on some of the things I learned when I saw a therapist for insomnia a few years ago - deep breathing and visualization. If I'm able to get myself to focus, it works pretty well.
  • I had great luck with Unisom with DD. It helped me sleep but I was never groggy in the morning. I'm sure I will be using it again this pregnancy.
  • Thank you so much!!!!!

  • Ive been struggling with insomnia since my last pregnancy- it got a bit better for a while but really spiked to critical about 8 month PP.
I've put a lot of work into "sleep hygiene" so keeping a regular schedule and sticking to it. The key part for me was turning off all electronics at least 30-60 minutes before bed. No candy crush, facebooking reddit ect. Thats made the biggest impact. I also worked hard with visualizations, guided sleep meditation podcast  and things like that.

Its so hard to get your sleep rhythm back when its off and its a really slow  process. The sooner you get on it the better.  Its taken me months to "work up" to getting about 4.5-5.5 hours a sleep a night which for me, is a big improvement.  I let it go far to long though. dont be like me!
  • Let me add to the Unisom train.  My doctor told me specifically to get the Unisom Sleeptabs.  I believe this has a different main ingredient than the other kinds of Unisom.  I liked them a lot, plus, I like that you can just take half a pill of the Sleeptabs if that's all you need.
