@antoto & @eggplantface we had to mix our Lupron trigger and measure it but the dose they gave us was 2 mg and we only had insulin syringes marked in units. After 30 minutes of googling and a harried late night phone call to my doctor, defusing a bomb is the perfect description.

@antoto I still had that moment of having to psyche myself up for the injection, but, as with the Ovidrel, I didn't even feel it. I was nervous about mixing the menopur correctly though!
Yessss mixing is the worst part.  When I had to mix some Gonal-F I was shaking so hard from anxiety.  When you know how much this shit costs (money and you know... the potential of making a baby) it suddenly feels like having to defuse a fucking bomb.
OMG this.  My first night of stims I was trying to mix and accidentally injected the Gonal-F into the dilute rather than the mixed Menopur.  I thought I ruined it and had a full. on. meltdown. I ended up injecting the mixed menopur into the Gonal F/ dilute mix and it was fine but still... it was terrifying.

I'm nervous about mixing the Pregnyl for my trigger too when I get to that step.. Is it similar? I hope the instructions are clear.
  • @antoto Ughhh I'm sorry to hear that. I hate that insurance even has to be a consideration in this already difficult decision.

  • @Kiki75 just WOW to that video. I'm so saddened by what is happening in the US.
I keep misreading that Rep's name as "Smirkus," which I think is a very apt name for him. Every time someone says something seriously that is this blatantly stupid--which is oh so common with this administration--I wonder again when we detoured into this alternate reality and how we get back again. (I won't even apologize for the politics in my sentiment.)
  • @travelingcouple AMEN regarding IF should be covered for all... its not a damn choice!  Mixing the pregnyl trigger is very simple, you will have everything written out but if you have any questions when you get to it I'm happy to help. (You get a bottle of the powder and the diluent, you draw up the diluent and squirt it in the powder vial, gently mix and then draw out the amount your RE want you to use.

@eggplantface I'm glad to hear your first night of stims went well

@laurad75 sorry I thought you were starting stims on thursday!

@antoto sorry your insurance is changing... mid year changes should not be allowed!

  • @Kiki75 UGH I was just reading that. I'm hoping whatever crap they replace ACA with will not go into effect for a couple more years so maternity care will still be covered. But you know Viagra will still be available! Considering politicians are supposed to be looking out for the interests of other people, you'd think they'd be more able to see further than just the end of the their nose.
I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment, but I think it's important to note that there isn't mandated coverage for ED medications like Viagara, and that such medications are actually helpful for dealing with MFI (so, not just for old men). With my H's MFI comes performance issues, but his insurance mostly doesn't cover ED treatments. So we had to pay $100 for three pills at a time. Now they've picked up a bit and it's $33/3 pills, which still feels like a rip-off. But there you have it.

I think that the part that we can all agree with is wondering when we transitioned to it being okay to be so obviously self-serving. "You all should be paying into the system for things that you don't necessarily need but I might even though I'm certainly not going to pay a dime for something I won't need." It makes me so sad. I have a cousin who has recently proven via FB to be quite crappy who has spent months railing against having to pay for other people's stuff and how Obamacare is the absolute worst thing ever and the whole thing is crap. (ETA: him being against Obamacare isn't what makes him crappy, it's the way he chooses to express himself and also the part where he's started supporting racists. The kind who openly express pride about being racist.) Then they found out that their dog had a health problem. Cue the GFM saying life had thrown them a curveball and requesting that other people pony up $2,000 for the surgery. I even responded with a link to the pet insurance we use and have had since we got our dogs (Pet Plan. At least about five years ago they covered hip dysplasia. It's not an issue for the breed of dog we have now so I haven't stayed on top of that part. They have been good to work with, though.) and included the caveat that since this is now a preexisting condition, it wouldn't be covered. I closed it by saying that it kind of makes you think about the whole 'preexisting condition' thing for dogs and humans. Unfortunately, it went straight over his head and he had no idea what I actually meant.

In other news, with all of the appointments, what have you guys told your coworkers? Before now, I pretty much had about four appointments or less a year (annual, eye doctor, dentist). There are just four of us in my office building. I may make it through the HSG before questions start but that'll be three in a month. They're going to notice and they don't always have filters. And I definitely do not feel comfortable with just telling them the truth.

  • @Kiki75 - Ahhh I wish I could help with the appointments. EVERYONE at my work knows. Mostly because the first week after I started I told my boss I had to leave early one day. I wasn't planning on telling him why, but I started crying because it was a *tw* miscarriage. So awkward because It was literally my first week. And people saw me leaving his office crying and it basically went from there. And now everyone knows because I've been pretty open about it. Everyone has been really, really cool with it though. From well wishes to a little leeway when I am getting crappy side effects. But I also work in the science field where they generally are a little more cool with ART and they are all around the 40 y/o mark, so they tend to have more tact than those around my age.

  • I work 2,500 people, and supervisors are generally forbidden from asking what's going on as long as I have the leave to use. So I had a bunch of appointments and they couldn't ask, and none of my coworkers really noticed I was gone. It's possible rumors went around about what was going on. Eventually I had to tell my supervisors because my surgery required almost three weeks off. I told one boss about the fertility treatments and thus why I needed surgery, and he goes "oh no, I don't need to know what it's for, just a reasonable reason for the absence." So just saying "surgery" would have been fine.

  • Just an FYI I'm in Canada and could go straight to IVF if I wanted. My RE gave us 4 options and we picked the one we wanted. Coverage depends on which province you live in so Ontario and Quebec cover an IVF cycle, Manitoba has a 40% tax credit for IVF, and other provinces have a medical tax credit of 20%ish.

I told one of my coworkers (she is a good friend) at my last job because I needed her to cover for me. I was primarily working from home during my last rounds of treatment so I didn't need to tell my boss.
  • @Kiki75 Pretty much everyone knows, I write an IF blog sharing my experiences and feelings which I share on my facebook. So it's no secret to anyone I know.

    IT'S A BOY!

  • @Kiki75 So I haven't actually told any of my co-workers.  I'm in a small to mid-sized office (we have ~17 people).  I have just said that I have an "appointment" and leave it at that.  That may get more difficult as treatment becomes more frequent, but at this point, no one has asked me a single thing about where I'm going or what I'm doing.  To be fair, I just don't care.  I'm looking for a new job anyway, so whether anyone who I work with is concerned about my absences is of little importance to me...but still, no one has said a word to me.  My most likely next move is to go with my ex-boss, and he vaguely knows what's going on, so I have no issues there.

And I'm going to ignore the healthcare debate entirely at this point.  I'm still reeling from an $850 radiology bill from my HSG that insurance covered $0 of, so I am incapable of being impartial at the moment.
  • @kiki75 for the most part I just said I had an appointment and left it at that. I did eventually tell my boss why I was having so many appointments but I have not told anyone else. Part of the reason I felt like I needed to tell my boss was I was also out a bunch dealing with the tumor in my finger and with the twins being sick.

I need to start clomid on day 2...I got my period around 6pm..Would tomorrow be day 1 and I could take it Sunday night?
  • @leekat14 so my office goes by a 4pm rule - if it's full flow before 4, they consider tHat day 1. I have heard other clinics have different times, whereas others have no specific time of day requirement. Can you call the nurses like to check what the standard is at your clinic?
