Whoa! This thread disappeared fast!

I must be so docile because I can't seem to dig up any uo's! hmmm...

I guess this might be one? I think that Marijuana should be legal in all 50 states (US). I don't use it, nor care for it, but it seems to benefit a lot of ill people and it's a "downer" so it calms people instead of excite them such as heroin or cocaine would.

Thoughts? Fight me! Jk. Don't fight me.

It's legal here in OR which has generated s lot of tax money for our state, but it's also causing more crimes (i.e. DUIs)

@VLillyV Completely agree with you! I'm in Colorado and one of my coworkers suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum and her doctor recommended edibles when the drugs didn't work for her. I wish there were more studies but I'm so glad we live somewhere she was able to get some relief!

@dogperson11 the crime part isn't so fun. I'm also in Colorado @migdala and I think there was a quick hiccup of crime, but it really dissipated rather quickly.

What I think is beneficial about edibles is that you don't need to even get high to reach some sort of relief. They also have started breeding strains with lower THC so that it doesn't affect children with seizure disorders or adults with Parkinsons. What a time to be alive, i'd say.

Eh, I don't get it. It stinks to high heaven (pun intended? lol) but I have also never smoked cigarettes either so smoking just turns me off period. Maybe I'd like a brownie hehe.

I have no UO today and am just trying to get through work without puking, so no drama llama out of me today.

I think preggie pops are disgusting. I'd rather eat jolly ranchers and yummy earth lollipops ( peach is amazing)

@dogperson11 I agree. I shuddered when I read some of them. But to each their own. My girls have pretty usual names , but still not very common. My problem is I have a numbers issue lol. Both girls have 5 letter first name , 6 letter middle name, and 7 letter last name. That order was completely unplanned. The first name having 5 was planned though. So we are currently looking at 5 letter names again for this wee one.

I'm from Oregon and I support legal marijuana even though I don't use it myself. Saying it's "causing more crimes" is a bit misleading. There has been a small uptick in marijuana-impaired driving.

I used to love dark chocolate, and I cannot stomach it anymore. It tastes like old, bitter coffee to me now. Milk chocolate with almonds makes my life whole though.

@VlillyV I agree about legalizing it. I don't smoke either, but I have wished for years that I could try it for medicinal use (like the oil or edibles) for my endometriosis. I don't like having to resort to opioids to relieve my cramps, and feel that the alternative could be a great relief.

Interesting to hear other perspectives. Have you read articles that say it's a "small uptick"? I ask because DH is a state trooper and he estimates he gives out about 30% more marijuana DUIs now then before it was legalized. I suspect people who haven't used before don't realize how impaired they actually are.

I read in the Oregonian that overall impaired driving was up 7%, including the increase in marijuana-impaired driving. I don't know how it's broken out if you just look at marijuana but I trust your DH's perspective. My main point was that the phrase "causing more crime" leads people to think of crimes like robberies and assaults. Totally valid to bring up the increase in impaired driving, which is something to take seriously in itself.

@emwj10187 I'm right there with you! I normally have such a sweet tooth - cupcakes, chocolate, ice cream, doughnuts, etc. I can't deal with any of that now, just the thought of sweets makes me nauseous.

Ooh I have a good one

I know the popular opinion is that second showers/sprinkles are tacky. And I do get that. My cousin has a sprinkle for her second coming up, though, and I'm really looking forward to it and am glad someone is throwing it for her! The whole family only gets together for events like this so I think the more, the merrier

it's nice to see everyone. I love baby showers, though, so I'm a bit of a weirdo.

I agree with the legalizing of marijuana. I have a cousin that is just way to high strung when we would hang out at parties he would smoke and became this awesome guy. And my brother in law has this undiagnosed something or other that causes him severe pain throughout his body and he smokes to relieve it. The health impact alone makes me feel it's worth it even though I have never and will never smoke it.

My UO is I can not understand people that get loud and angry and just all kinds of crazy while giving birth. When I had my son I basically went into this meditative state doing pain excercises my neurologist taught me for my headaches that I used to get and basically didn't say 2 words to people. Then as I was nursing my son and getting settled in for the night this other woman in the room next door was screaming constantly like she was being murdered, up and down the halls while walking, in the water delivery room down the hall, and then back to the room next to me before she finally must have had the baby because she got insanely quiet or they gave her drugs. In the middle of the night none the less. I do believe some people have a higher pain tolerance as well, but I just could not understand why she was screaming like that. And I was in labor for 54 hours no drugs, barely any sleep, or food.

@emwj10187 @beezeemarie Count me in with you guys. Nutty bars used to be my favorite and now they make me sick. The only sweet thing I can tolerate is ice cream.

My UO is that I don't think slang should be added to the dictionary. I just saw that "yas" was added to the oxford dictionary. That is not a word, it is a variation of an existing word. It is literally defined as "representing an informal or exaggerated pronunciation of yes".

@singing_lyn For context: So, this will be my third delivery. My first was a twin delivery with 9 weeks of preterm labor (which was suppressed with drugs) and then Baby A's bag of waters broke and we tried to induce labor but I still had suppression drugs in my systems and then other complications led to a c-section. On my second labor, my water broke and I had contractions instantly starting at every 5 minutes while we raced to the hospital for a medically-required repeat C. So, my question: I mean no offense by this, but I have no context to understand it. When you say "in labor for 54 hours", were you actually contracting every few minutes the whole time? And if not, what does 54 hours of labor entail?

I think the reaction is less that it's a UO and more that it comes across very #humblebrag "why couldn't she labor more like me?"

@aprilsarahjune Sorry to derail but you just blew my mind with "Baby A's bag of waters broke" ... I never thought about how twins must have different bags of waters. So did your water break twice? I can't believe I've never thought about this before!

It means 54 hours of contractions. Started contractions around 4 in the afternoon, went to the hospital at 2 am when they were 2 minutes apart they kept me for observation until 9 am when they sent me home because I wasn't making any progress dilating from 1, and then went back that night still having the same contractions the same length of time apart, they checked me in, but the next morning they almost sent me home again, but decided to break my water, that only dilated me to 4, and then they were going to send me home again but didn't, walking didn't help, I couldn't eat because it made me throw up, and I barely slept. Finally at around 7 pm on Friday night that gave me pitocin when I got to 7, to try and get things moving, got up to go the bathroom, told them I felt like I had to poop, the nurse had me get on the bed, and I had gone from 7 to almost all the way in a matter of minutes, asked them to call the doctor in. 3 hours later she finally came in after my body trying to push and the nurse telling me I couldn't the whole time, swoops her finger in around my son's head, goes ok you can push, and an hour and a half later my son was born. Walking up and down, and around the hospital ward pretty much the whole time, and my son was a week late at that point.

I was more of the curl into a ball and wimper in pain like a lost and dying puppy. The screamers made me so scared of labor. But everyone is different and if screaming helps you through the pain then have at it!

I know there are a few L&D nurses on here, I'm curious of the stats? How many scream, how many cry and how many beat their husbands? (Mine got threatened once for singing "push it real good.")

@singing_lyn that is great that you have such a high pain tolerance, but it should be self explanatory why the woman was screaming like that in labor-she was in pain. Her birth plan may have been to not have pain medicine as well. I would assume that not everyone can just go into a meditative state while delivering. Your birth experience is completely unique as compared to the next person, and so on, and there are so many factors that can cause pain for one individual, and none for another. It sounds like you had a great birth experience though. Your UO reminded me of that movie What to Expect When You're Expecting, and the scene where both women are in labor, and how different each experience is. I think the stepmom just sneezes her baby out or something, pretty silly, but entertaining movie nevertheless.

Baby B's bag of waters did a burst and whoosh on its own later in the day. I can't imagine how that burst felt for Baby A who was already hanging out in the uterus with no protection!

A friend of mine actually bit one of the nurses, on the arm I think, when she was in labor, so I think it's safe to say everyone handles it differently.

I didn't have twins but my water breaking was my first sign of labor. It broke when I rolled over in bed and just a little (in comparison - it was still very obvious what happened) came out then. My contractions started and when I got in the shower to get ready to go into the hospital the rest of it went in a huge gush.

Bodies are weird.

Like I said I knew it was an UO. I just can't stand screaming it makes my throat hurt and when I'm already in pain I don't see the point in doing something that causes more pain. I come from a very crunchy, granola, midwives, delivery at home, area too though, so when I had to change our plans of delivering at home to delivering at the hospital because our midwife was worried because I'm O- and my husband is A+ it was just very shocking to my delivery plan I guess. I understand people have different pain tolerances like I said, I understand that people handle pain differently, but the constant screaming, no breaks in between, and all that just was jarring to my system, my recovery, everything. I can understand grunting, cursing, and screaming a little bit, but this lady that was in the room next to me sounded like a murder recording being played on repeat for hours.

@dogperson11 I also cringed at a lot of the names in the names thread. I hate the trend of giving babies unusual names just for the sake of being different.

@singing_lyn it's great that you got to have a birth experience that you remember fondly. However, not everyone's birth plan is the same, not everyone's goes according to plan, and definitely not everyone deals with pain in the same way. Like @virginiaham said, your post did come across as "why didn't she labor more like me," which isn't a fair judgment on the other mom or on others who might not deal with pain as calmly as you were able to.

@aprilsarahjune My water broke at 3am and I didn't even call the hospital until 7am.

The nurse was like "yeah, you should probably just get yourself ready and come in."

DH then showered and SHAVED before we left. We do only like like 5 minutes from the hospital so it wasn't like a mad dash but... probably not typical, lol.
