I don't have anything fancy today. Just tired of work and MS. I'm 14 weeks and I keep looking for that sweet relief, but nothing. I also don't understand how you other STM and plus make it through. Having a toddler and being pregnant is rough. I feel like you have to be super human to make it through, and that I am not.
My BF is Mother Nature. Seriously it was nice and sunny and only slightly chilly for the last like week. But now that my new maternity jeans are ready for pickup today in town, she decides to dump a bunch of white shit on the ground. For real I'm not driving my toddler and I to town in the snow. The highway to town is called "The Highway of Death" for a reason... it's dangerous even without snow. So many fatalities. One year a bus crashed into a line of cars waiting on construction and killed three guys, all three were coal miners, it could have been anyone's husband coming home from work.. DH knew one of them. Anyways yeah I'm not driving us to town on the death highway in the snow. DAMN IT. Why must I live in an area where they won't deliver my pants to me. Whyyyyyy.
My BF is getting unsolicited "advice" from someone who has no experience in transitioning toddler to big girl bed. Said person has child same age as mine and we in no way have similar night time experiences (i.e., they co-sleep and her DD requires her to lay with her until she falls asleep, while my daughter has slept solo since 8 months in crib). I don't care what works for them at bedtime, its whatever fits their lifestyle. But how are you going to so matter-o-factly tell me what I should be doing when your kid hasn't spent a single night alone in her room, by herself? Sorry, no.
I'm going to take a moment to complain about the backlash I'm seeing on Facebook for Beauty and the Beast. Apparently, people are mad that there is a small subplot with a gay character. This is a movie about a young girl who is held hostage by a literal beast and falls in love with him. People have no problem with this as a lesson to young girls (probably because, like Christian Grey, the Beast is rich). But, they believe that showing a man in love with another man is unnatural and inappropriate for young children. In a movie with talking furniture and a serious case of Stockholm syndrome, how are we supposed to explain homosexuality to our daughters and granddaughters?
I love Beauty and the Beast and I don't think it screwed me up when I was a kid, but I think the general plot is far more damaging to young children than a passing reference to homosexuality.
@bridge-and-wall I saw this (picture below) on Facebook and thought it was so accurate. I watched both of these cartoons as a child and thought NOTHING of it! Two things are happening, 1) a select group of people are getting upset about seeing a gay person in a film or commercial (like the campbells soup commercial.. people actually said they were going to stop buying their soup because they had a gay couple in their commercial... seriously?) and 2) the media is waayyyy over exaggerating the amount of "outrage" about things to make it seem like it's a huge deal when in reality MOST people don't care.
@jmn1985 say some weird stuff to make sure you don't get picked lol
Hahaha, yes! My dad gets called to jury duty all the time... he loves getting picked, lol, and said the trick is to never raise your hand. So, I would say raise your hand a lot and you're likely to get cut. Or just give everyone crazy eyes the whole time!
@jmn1985 In my experience, the judge will ask at some point if anyone has a reason they can't serve. If you haven't been struck by then, raise your hand. Tell the judge you're pregnant and you have to pee every half hour at least. I know I would agree to let you off the jury, because I wouldn't want the constant interruptions of a juror needing to go to the bathroom.
Note: As a lawyer and government employee, I tend to be struck quickly, so I have no personal experience with saying stuff to get off a jury. But, I agree with the advice about talking a lot to get struck. Most of us don't want super opinionated and forceful or loud jurors. The standard advice is that the quiet people will usually end up on the jury.
I don't get the Beauty and the Beast thing either. From what I read, the gay moment is so small, blink an you'll miss it. If no one had said anything, I doubt most people would have even noticed it.
MY BF is our doctor's office. I'm supposed to have my NT scan, a regular ultrasound, a full appointment, and a blood draw at 1 today, but apparently the NP I was supposed to see is out sick, so they called me to reschedule. They originally offered me NEXT Wednesday. Um, I'll be 14 weeks by then, and too far along for an NT scan. I had to get pretty insistent, but they gave me an appointment tomorrow at 2:30. Also, they've already rescheduled this appointment once a few weeks ago, and it was kind of a mess. They wanted to schedule me next week, Again, when it's too late for my NT scan, or a few different blood tests. The doctors and nurses and this office are great. The schedulers seem to be obtuse as possible on purpose. This is also pretty small, but the scheduler I talked to insisted she left me a message, and she did not. It's just such an odd thing for her to get bitchy about. Why not just say "I'm sorry you didn't get a message," and move on?
I had no idea about this Beauty and the Beast outrage?? I don't even know what two characters it's about. Meanwhile I'm just eh about Ariana grande and her roses petals in the new music video. What the hell.
@amandarene112 That's awful! So frustrating when you have to have things by a certain time and the schedulers are just blind to that! I hope you don't miss anything!

Regarding jury duty: my dad is a pastor, and he always takes his large bible to read while waiting. Once the lawyers realize what his giant book is, he always gets dismissed. He says it's a double win: learn about Jesus, don't have to serve jury duty.
We are watching the people vs OJ right now and it's all I can think about is the dang jurors! I'm like if I was called for jury duty I would say he's guilty or whatever and get dismissed immediately lol.
@bridge-and-wall I have a random lawyer question--how do they decide which cases get a jury?
My BF is the US court system. We are waiting to hear the results of a court case today for a violent crime involving a guy that we want to be locked up forever. He has been arrested no fewer than 10 times and has not once been put in jail. If he gets off today I will lose it. It's been an emotional day waiting. Thank goodness I have therapy Wednesday
Oh and the beauty and the beast stuff is ridiculous. You are right we are fine with having our kids watch a beast hold a poor girl hostage but not ok with a small gay character. I think it's mainly the south having a fit. I'm not surprised. The Bible Belt and all our hipocracies.
@jmn1985 you should just tell them you're pregnant and emotional. Anyone that has ever dealt with a pregnant woman, knows that we are in no position to be on a jury. We can be so irrational at times.
@jessieR358 That is governed by state/federal law. I know a lot of states allow the defendant in a criminal trial to choose to waive a jury and try the case to a judge. Similarly, the parties in a civil trial can agree to waive a jury if they are otherwise entitled to a jury trial.
Soooo you know man colds right? Well DH was just diagnose with strep, bronchitis, and pneumonia yesterday!!! Like man cold with an actual diagnosis is just 100x worse "bring me this" "cook me that" "I don't want that anymore" ..... (slowly realizing he's just acting like I was in my first tri .....) anyways then DS wakes up from a 3 hour nap today and has a fever of 102.5 so GREAT... efff you cold and flu season
DS is almost a year old and going through a super clingy phase where he is refusing to sleep in his crib at night. He was transitioned to his crib at 6 weeks old and used to sleep fine. Would do a 5-6 hour stretch, wake up for a diaper change and nursing/bottle, then sleep for another 4-5 hours. Now however, he is waking up like every hour and wanting to be held. He racks out in mine or DH's arms but FREAKS the second we try and lay him back down. I don't know what to do. We've tried all sorts of methods but he is so stubborn. It's particularly hard because I'm so exhausted by the night that all I want to do is sleep and DH works most nights, so we can't always trade off. Anyone have some miracle advice?
I agree that the Beauty and the Beast thing is being blown out of proportion. I do kind of wonder why they made him "openly gay" though. Why not leave him like he was in the original and let people assume he was or wasn't? I just don't see the point in making an issue of it... who cares if he does or doesn't like men?
I'm annoyed because the hospital I delivered DD at is now a "baby friendly hospital."
Did you have a bad experience with them? Just confused as to why you are annoyed.
oops stuck in a reply box!
i just hate they force this stuff on moms (especially new moms). When I had my daughter I sent her to the nursery after being in labor for 2 days. It was amazing..now that's not even an option.

They just do this because it is best for the baby to be next to and skin to skin as much as possible with mom. Hard to do when they are in another room... we just had my parents come into my recovery suite with me and DH and they held and rocked DS while DH and I slept. Just a thought.
The other side of being forced to have baby with you at all times in the hospital: I have six friends who have all given birth in the same hospital over the last several years, and four of the five of them ended up waiting 6 or more hours to see their child after giving birth. Two of them were c-sections, and they both waited more than 10 hours, which I think is just torture. One mother had a traumatic birthing experience, and ended up with PTSD, and I really think not being able to see or hold her child for almost 12 hours after her emergency c-section played a big part in that.
I have totally thought LeFou was in love with Gaston since I was a little kid. I don't really care if they are open about it or not. I just don't get why people are upset. It's been blown way out of proportion.

Me too. When my friend first told me about this whole mess my response was "Oh, his friend who was in love with him? Well, of course he is..."
I guess that's why I don't see why it needed a big "openly gay" scene.ETA- it's probably also why I don't see why people care so much. I feel like he always was gay...

That is awful! When my SIL asked for her baby after a c-section we waited over an hour and still no baby in the room. I'd be at the nursing desk demanding for my baby if they took that long.
All our hospitals are "baby friendly" and I had no problem with it. It's great for breastfeeding and getting the milk to come in. I was also overprotective of my baby and didn't really want him leaving the room. Not to mention it was like $100 charge every time they took him to the nursery for silly stuff, like pediatrician exam and hearing exam. I saw that on our itemized hospital bill.
Edit: those exams and stuff could be done in the room. I don't understand why it needs to be done in the nursery.
@HollyGolightly09 I'm not a big Disney fan and haven't seen this since I was a kid so I don't remember how it was in the original, but what's wrong with having a gay character in the story, especially if it's not a central storyline? I think it's important to see all kinds of characters and see that their sexuality isn't a big deal, especially for kids.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Apparently a lot of people do, though. And Russia will supposedly ban the movie all together.
@amandarene112 It sounds like you and I are both surrounded by idiot office members. I had to get DH to call this one nurse's manager today because she made me cry this morning! My mom said I should switch to another office, but I love my OB. My chart is now flagged that the particular nurse I'm speaking of isn't allowed to call me anymore.
