We are in Memphis visiting friends. Today we plan to do brunch and go to the civil rights museum. DH is so excited for Memphis BBQ and to check out some blues clubs so that will probably be on the agenda for tonight.
It's snowing outside. I was supposed to take students to a local university for an academic competition, but it started snowing right before I left, and the roads were covered so fast I ended up stopping and calling everyone to tell them to stay home. So now I have a free morning! Going to a 1 year old's birthday party later this afternoon.
Organizing my house lol Getting ready early to move, getting rid of stuff, and making a bunch of food (dried beans, seitan sausages, and chocolate peanut butter balls) Oh and I have to go to Red Lobster to talk to my husbands grandma about cosigning a loan for my husbands computer. I just hate that restaurant and cant eat anything and wish we could go somewhere I could actually eat! Grr.

Ugh. Well had lots of fun plans this weekend with good family friends because we are finally all 'healthy'.....turns out LO got a bad virus from an older cousin(puking, high fever, coughing & nasty nose)! Fine one minute, projectile vomit and fever the next. Day two and he's not puking anymore but fever and nasty cough/nose still going strong. He didn't sleep last night so I'm pretty miserable. I ended up asleep in a weird position in a chair and my neck and head are now killing me and it's not even 9AM. LOL
okay this is about to get 'dear diary' on you, feel free to skip ahead. I feel like a failure of a mother because my baby has been sick nonstop this winter. Since thanksgiving, we have had 5 or 6(I lost count) nasty viral infections in this home! We have missed so many get together a and parties being sick. It sucks. One of the virtual infections was influenza!!!! It took out my whole family. It was 3/4 weeks ago and I'm just now getting to feeling human again. I'm so mentally drained from that entire episode, I'm not ready for more illness. Ugh. We need Spring and health asap. It's the worst feeling watching my little guy be so miserable and sick, and I can't really do anything.
On an up note, I plan on treating myself to a fountain cherry Coke today!!! I'm going to need it! LOL
I've been scanning Craigslist and other resale sites for stuff to furnish the nursery with and when I pulled it up yesterday, a listing for two GORGEOUS, matching, slip-covered overstuffed arm chairs came up at $100 a piece. I shouldn't really be spending the money, but I've been in the market for something like this for our living room and this deal is INSANE. Going to check them out today and hopefully bring them home. From the pics, they look like they were probably $600, $700 a piece originally. Really hoping they're as good as they look!
Kiddo is sick with a cold (was off last night and woke up cranky and not feeling well) this morning. So that's going to be my weekend, since tomorrow is a workday for my husband.
On a tangential note, I also have found my 17 month old up on the dining room table today, on all fours, eating the cat food. Twice. So that's fun.

+1 organizing the house. Husband is closing off our balcony and making another room. I'm kinda sad about it cause I love my little balcony garden in the spring and summer. We also took in a friend's dog 2days ago, otherwise he'd go to a shelter, so we're trying to adjust. It's a bit much cause there's a few female dogs in heat on our block and he gets a little crazy after walks. But he's really good otherwise, but we'll be going for his exam tomorrow and get him neutered in the following days.
@LoveLee85 you are far from the only one - this winter has been a cesspool of nasty colds and flus (both influenza and stomach bugs). DH and had words already when I had mentioned our daughter seemed like she was sick about a month ago and he got annoyed and made a sarcastic comment about someone always being sick (between my bad MS and the kids getting sick). Still get annoyed thinking about it.
@LM1007 I hope the adjustment with the new pup gets easier, I love people like you helping out animals. You are my hero for the day.
i am about to give up on my diet and baking endeavors. I have tried three times today to make some whole wheat bread and I can't get past the proofing the yeast part. This has always been my kryptonite - I finally caved and am seeming how rapid rise yeast works but I am so annoyed. I use filtered water, 2 thermometers to ensure temperature control and the yeast just sits there mocking me with its lack of activity.
@dancegurl1118, right?? He's usually really, really good and knows what he should and shouldn't do, but it's like he's basically been like, I feel like crap, so I'm gonna do ALL the things! Climbing the outside of the stair railing (found him halfway up the stairs), caught him with a dried foam paintbrush out of the trash in his mouth, eating the cat food (with the cat) twice on the dining room table, digging in the cat litter box when I walked away to throw out the cat poop I had just cleaned out, ripping up any paper he can get his hands on...it's been a long 48 hours.

Thank you @Dcwtada My friend was just telling me it's been the worst flu season in history!? I have never had a flu shot before or influenza, but after experiencing influenza, I might start!
@ktewart you just inspired me to start up my search for fun, second hand deals for my house! Funny story, we went to Buy Buy Baby when I was pregnant with my 17 month old. I about fell over at how much they wanted for a room full of baby furniture!! I refused to buy it. Hahah. Looking back, the room came together great(still randomly adding things as needed) and I spent a fraction of what they wanted. It's like a game for me, finding deals and steals! The chairs sound great, good luck!
I'm taking the first of 3 tests for my teaching license this morning. It's the math section and I'm a little worried because math is definitely not my strong suit. After that we might go to the kids play place in town because DS loves it and begs to go.
I was invited to a baby shower last night (got the text at 10 party is at 2 today) for an "aunt" who just married my moms brother. Things are extremely rocky with them and the rest of the family because he abandoned 3 kids from his previous marriage and now my grandparents are having to raise them. He also just got charged with felony child abused because he beat his youngest daughter because she was being mean, she's literally the sweetest little girl ever. Only my sister in law and I were invited from the family (we have a very large extended family 7 kids on my moms side) so it's definitely a hard pass for me and I don't feel one ounce of guilt.

@Dcwtada I have an amazing recipe for no-knead bread that is idiot proof. I don't make yeast bread but this one is so easy even I can't screw it up. I can PM you the recipe if you want.
@Dcwtada Is it cold where you are? It might help to warm the oven to around 100 and stick the yeast in there to rise. I've had this problem before too, it's not you, yeast can be finicky.

and @kerils yep we are at freezing right now (after a few days in the 60s...) my oven won't go below 170 degrees but it has a warming setting, I'll use my thermometer to gauge what that temperature is when it settles. I try to preheat the oven and left everything rise on the stovetop for warmth but I can't even get to that point. And I did make a really good sourdough bread two weeks ago but haven't had the week to make the starter
@Dcwtada Aw thank you! I am really hoping it gets easier and it'll work out for our family. He's a 1yr old beautiful pitbull, very well trained for the most part. But I had a friend come over(she's a big animal lover and vet tech) to help with him yesterday only because it was the first day alone with me and DS (16mo) and while she took him for a walk he started to try and hump her and got a little carried away, we got him back inside and in the cage. Same thing last night with DH while outside but we both saw him pick up a scent then it started, his face literally changed instantly. So I'm really hoping getting him neutered will help with that. Because I honestly wouldn't be able to take him outside if he'll do it to me, considering he's pretty big compared to my 4'10" self and I'm pregnant. And I really do want this to work out, because he is just a mush otherwise.
Moms of 1.5YO did you find this to be a big "NO" phase from your toddler? My 18 MO has been saying no to everything lately and it's driving me bananas. She's not in a bad mood when she says it. Seems to be a game. She'll ask for something and I'll go do it and when I'm like ok here she smiles says no and runs away... As soon as she sees a diaper come out she says no and runs away. When we go somewhere and I ask if she's ready to leave again no and running away. Blah. I thought I had some time before the terrible twos.

@yellow1daisy Oh yes! My son is 16mo. And when we try to tell him not to do something he looks at us, smiles, shakes his head no and proceeds to do what he pleases. Also when he sees a diaper he'll shake his head no and run! It was cute at first lol. I thought the same about terrible 2s, and it could be wishful thinking, but I'm hoping it started this early to end early.
+2 to organizing the house. I'd really like to test drive some strollers too.
@Dcwtada DH has been baking amazing bread for a couple years. He makes bread with a yeast culture that we feed every day or so (you can google Tartine bread to get an idea of this style of bread). It took A LOT of trial and error to get it right. So, don't give up yet, and I think it's awesome that you're trying. (but also, if you decide baking bread from scratch is not for you, don't feel bad about giving up. There's a reason this is DH's hobby but not mine )
+3 for organizing. We finished our basement a couple months ago and have struggled to figure out the perfect set-up. Going to spend today getting it right then going for a pedi with my SIL. Tonight we have dinner with our accountant (he lives in a different city and happens to be here on business). He's a lot of fun so I'm looking forward to it. Yay for free accounting advice haha
We're organizing too, trying to get what will be our 13-month old's new room cleaned out before my dad arrives for a visit on Monday. I have a ton of binders on the top shelf of the closet so I just went through a few... there was an entire binder full of bank statements from when I was in college (15 years ago). I think it's safe to say I can get rid of those at this point.
The bedding for his new room arrived yesterday which means we can now go paint shopping and find a great green that matches! We're doing light green walls with navy and white accents. The bedding is nautical themed but I'm not sure we'll do anything with that theme beyond matching the colors. DS will move into this room in April or May and the new baby will then have the current nursery. Lots to do between now and then.
@yellow1daisy oh boy, yes! My LO just kind of sings 'no no no no NOOOOOOOO!!!!' Randomly, all day. He didn't start until two weeks ago when I taught him where his nose was. LOL it's the last of the facial features for him to learn. He doesn't say it to me, or in reference to anything he's doing or shouldn't be doing. But it's clearly the word No and it's here and I'm annoyed but really trying to ignore it. LOL I have been saying 'Yes, please!' A lot lately. And saying 'No thank you' when I say the word no. You are not alone.
After leaving work 4 hours early last night due to getting some nasty bug that had me running to the bathroom every 10 minutes, I am feeling better so I plan on doing some shopping at Goodwill and other thrift stores to see what (if any) deals I can find.

@yellow1daisy the "no's" and "done" are too much these days. She's like, "Listen lady I'm using my words like you ask me to so if I'm saying I'm done you better let me be done or I will bring the house down with a fit!"

DH and I hung out with one of his best friends and his wife. We used to spend most weekends together at wineries and breweries or just having game nights. I haven't been in a brewery until today, but after lunch we went to a local brewery. The wife doesn't think mothers should bring their babies/kids to breweries, and thinks that if they have anything to drink, they are being bad mothers. I disagreed with her, because that is ridiculous and she needs to mind her own business.
Not once did she ask me about the pregnancy in any capacity. She is vocal about not wanting kids, and it is clear she isn't happy for me. When I was struggling to get pregnant, she was always willing to ask about that. Now that something positive is happening in my life, she doesn't care to know. She is generally a judgmental, crazy b*tch, and over the years I have stopped considering her a friend. It's just bizarre how clearly against my pregnancy she is because of her own life choices. I'm going to continue to distance myself from her and I hope (for a host of reasons I won't get into) she might not be in the best friend's life forever.
Just finished putting the 2nd coat of paint in baby's room. And by that I mean the 2nd coat on only 1 wall (and the smaller ones in the doorway) because there is too much crap along every other wall for me to do more than that. Finally got my cube shelf in place along the 1 completed wall and it looks sooooo pretty! The plan tomorrow is to move said crap and continue painting! I'm very excited for the redesign I have envisioned for LO's room. My Mom was asking me some questions about themes and I strictly told her no decor! As I said, I have every last bit of this room planned in my head and I don't want to feel obligated to stick something on the wall. No. Just no. Don't. Haha. I also have to clean my house because it's a mess... I thought maybe if I said that out loud the cleaning fairy might come visit me overnight! Ha! Wishful thinking.
Oh and DH finally got the engine in his car and I'm hoping that thing is out of there by the end of the weekend. I want the garage back! Parking outside in the winter is not fun.
@crzyforbabies ugh I know how you feel! Almost ditto situation ... I just haven't bothered telling my H best friends gf because she's seriously so crazy. She's older than me and extremely immature and bossy! She initially made me feel like crap for marrying "too early" (she's been in a relationship with my husbands bestie for a long time) Then this summer in Hawaii she asked us why we don't have kids yet and H gave her more details than necessary(when we plan to and how we are ready now but waiting) and she just went nuts. She started asking how it's also a great idea to freeze eggs and not feel rushed to have babies, how I'm still sooo young (I'm not?!) and shouldn't feel any burden. It's a really twisted way of showing jealousy pretending like she cares. Luckily the bestie is in Hawaii, we don't see them too often but she's always such a draining person! They are coming soon and she's a super alcoholic I wonder what she has to say about me not drinking ....
p.s. Iv already made plans with a friends friend who just moved here to go to a winery with baby as soon as I am able to go out and about. Don't listen to this hater.
Back to my weekend: im going out to return a bunch of stuff and realize I don't have anything that fits to wear outside. Can't wear a skirt it's cold so I guess I'm wearing hubbys pajamas ...
I bought maternity pants, but I need to buy shirts soon @BusyZee. I might have to break down and start wearing some loungy pants to work like my other coworkers.
@cssme13 ummmmmm, why would someone WANT to have a baby with him knowing his past? I hope he gets his shit straight pronto, that would be a hard fvck no from me.
DH and I had a date night last night, we went out for sushi. Today was rainy, we had olive garden and he has to cook for church tonight. It's suppose rain all day tomorrow and Monday, at least it will be 80. Tomorrow after church I'm going to start deep cleaning since we leave for a week and a half starting Friday.

I am sorry to hear you had to deal with her being like that. I had a friend, well I should say "friend", who sounds a lot like her. We had been friends since high school and we were really close at one point. Then some drama happened around my wedding and I that's when I saw her for who she really was (or at least who she had become). I ended up cutting ties with her and I am happier for it. Hopefully it all works out well for you too with this lady. She definitely is not someone you need in your life if she's like that.

DH, the kids and I all went to Ikea yesterday. I bought two large shelves, a desk and three chairs (all for the basement playroom for the kids) and spent $250! I was pretty pleased. I'm trying to set up the basement as a more comfortable place for my kids to play away from my mom and her constant criticism. Poor kids can't do anything without her criticizing, and they don't deserve that. They're just being kids, but she's lived alone for so long (and now is experiencing dementia) so she just doesn't remember or understand that kids are loud sometimes. She yelled at DS1 because he was making sounds while playing with his starwars legos. So no. I'm moving all their toys to our basement and setting them up comfortably down there. It's already pretty nice down there, I just didn't have shelves to put toys on, and they needed a table to do their school work on and/or play with their toys on. Don't get me started about my mom and how she hovers around while I'm helping DS1 with homework and then starts to yell...ugh.
So I'm spending this weekend building IKEA furniture and organizing the basement!

Highly monitored internet and no cell service in the office, so I'm postin' and ghostin' while I'm workin'
Oh and DH finally got the engine in his car and I'm hoping that thing is out of there by the end of the weekend. I want the garage back!

p.s. Iv already made plans with a friends friend who just moved here to go to a winery with baby as soon as I am able to go out and about. Don't listen to this hater.
Back to my weekend:
im going out to return a bunch of stuff and realize I don't have anything that fits to wear outside. Can't wear a skirt it's cold so I guess I'm wearing hubbys pajamas ...
