Baby #2 Due 3/7/20
Hi ladies, this is a dumb question but how do you know when your baby is ready to try foods that require chewing? I know you would start with soft food etc. but it seems to me even something really soft, baby could still choke on if she attempted to swallow it without chewing. This doesn't seem like the type of thing I want to do by trial and error...
So far my baby has only had purees.

Today's lunch of ground turkey, pasta, and marinara. It's a big hit.

Yeah but gagging is part of the learning process. Preston did it for like a week where he kept putting food in. We have him a few pieces at a time like 4-5 rather than 1-2 and eventually he slowed down. We also made sure it was extra mushy food in that time so that it was easier to swallow.
Usually I do a 5-6 pieces on her tray and let her go at her own pace, but I think with my mom spoon feeding her yogurt and handing her things off her plate that she's off her game. She had been doing really well, but puked after gagging a few times on bread the other day.
We have done BLW from 6.5 months and from about 8 months he really got the hang of it and was eating quite a bit. Now, at nearly 10 months he is chewing his food but not swallowing it. He doesn't seem to be in pain but I do think he has a tooth on the way. He is nursing lots more than usual presumably to make up for it.
