@PurplePoppy424 I remember that! It really is ridiculous now.
It will get so boring if they take away all of the good drama and banter... at this point my arguments center around trying to convince my 1 year old he needs to keep his pants on and telling my 2 year old that even if her brother is misbehaving she can't hit him upside the head with her play phone. So far I am losing both negotiations.
My DH is out of town for work this week and I'm losing the "you can't have candy because you didn't eat your dinner" argument. Also the "you can't spank the dog for not playing with you" argument. I'm also losing. At least to the candy argument. I feel ya!!
@Dcwtada I think I read that whole thread, What exactly did you say that made you get a TOU violation. I had two warnings with my earlier account and somehow got banned (I wonder what the third reason was).
I totally get the food allergy stuff. Yeah, it sucks because there are nuts in a crap ton of stuff but you better believe if my child had a severe allergy I would go to the ends of the earth as an asshole parent to protect them in public. Coming from someone who eats PB&J every other day, I can definitely say I'd live without it. I saw an article the other day that people were up in arms that a child with a peanut allergy and their mom got to board an airplane first so they had time to wipe down and disinfect their tray tables, etc just in case the passengers before had nuts. Have a little empathy, assholes.
DD's daycare is nut-free in general but they provide all the food and snacks so we don't have to worry about it. I started with swiping PB on the inside of her mouth at like 8 months. She loves peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
It makes me wonder about tho prevalence of food allergies...I'm definitely not denying it exists (don't think you can make anaphylaxis up), but does anyone know of any research pointing to any clues as to why we see it more now, and moreso in the US?

There's water coming out of the walls in my apartment. It's from the unit above us, I've called the emergency maintenance line and left a message about an hour ago. I also text a girl that use to work at my complex and asked her if she could get in touch with the manager or get me her number and I haven't heard back from her either. Idk what else to do.
I try to steer clear of the drama as well because of the warnings, I think I'm at 2 now but I got them before Christmas.
@MrsLa3 that sounds awful! Hopefully you hear from someone ASAP. Is the emergency line just a message phone? If not, I personally would not stop calling until someone answered, so sorry you have to deal with this!

@mrsla3 so sorry you have to deal with that! We had leaks in our apartment from the water heater in the apt above us a few weeks ago and it was no fun to deal with. I agree that you should just keep calling them until someone answers. That's what I had to do (at 1am, no less!).

Take a video of it happening! I woke up one day and our kitchen was raining because the townhouse floor above us forced water down the pipes and it blew our pipes up!! I stationed my cooking pots everywhere and had to empty them out 7 times.

My MBF has to do with our home reno that's been dragging on. We had to switch contractors after months of slacking off and our new contractor has been great but we've had so many things pop up; either a mistake from the previous contractor (like just yesterday it turns out he didn't leak test the master shower drainage and we ended up having a leak through the ceiling onto the new hardwood downstairs ugh), or something we ordered just not being right. Literally every day it's something new. Today, they were installing the new kitchen cabinets and the manufacturing messed up and put a false door panel on the wrong side so now another 2 weeks at least for a cabinet replacement when we were hoping we'd be moving in in 2 weeks. We bought the house in September and we thought we'd be moved in by December. Now it's dragged into March and I just want things to go smoothly and get moved in before I'm huge and uncomfortable. Blah.
I realize this is sort of an asshole MBF because I'm lucky to have a home waiting to sell to stay in while we wait on the Reno to our new house. Not to mention how lucky I am to have the whole house redone to my taste. But I'm just over this process and hope we stay in this new house forever and never have to worry about renovating ever again. So stressful. And expensive.

But the guy said we were good for tonight and they'd be back tomorrow to fix it all. It is in fact coming from the unit upstairs.
Allergies are more common in developed countries because we don't have parasites. We have different white blood cells, and the white blood cell (eosinophils) that is responsible for taking down parasites (worms) is what is responsible for over-reacting to allergens. This is (most likely) why it's getting worse with each generation- because we have less and less worms/parasites in our lives- Thankfully! It's silly to say anything else causes them to be worse in new generations, or that certain ethnicities have less prevalence of them.
Exposure therapy only helps so much, and not if it's a severe allergy.

that is so interesting and cool @Mrs.EmmaLouise I'm going to try reading more about this. According to my research (which is really very basic) I always make the connection with diet. For instance peanuts are sprayed heavily, and peanut allergy is much more prevalent here etc etc . Iv never met anyone born and raised from my country who has a peanut allergy so I'm assuming. But what u said makes sense and I never narrowed it down to lack of parasites.
The food allergy debate drives me insane....as in it shouldn't be a debate because not eating a peanut butter sandwich won't kill you (general you) but your damn sandwich could kill the person next to you. Yes I believe that unnecessary avoidance and late exposure are significantly contributing to the increase of serious allergies but once a person has the allergy it's a life threatening situation. Give your kids all the peanut butter you want at home but have some respect for the sheer terror a parent of a child with an anaphylactic allergy deals with on a daily basis.
Sadly, it was religion-based since it was a religious center preschool. Investigators seemed to think they were just empty threats but of course it's so unsettling for all of the parents. Luckily my cousin's children are too young to know what was going on and they thought they were just getting a fun field trip day. There are seriously scary people in the world
Son just woke up with bad croup- first time he's ever had it but horrible horrible seal like cough and I'm freaking out because I know it can become dangerous pretty fast. Any STM+ have home remedies?? I took him outside into the cold to stop the last attack. Looks like I won't be sleeping tonight.

Ummm, with croup he needs meds? My kids did anyway. If cold air stopped an attack, which I'm assuming is a coughing attack sounds more like asthma. Still even that needs a breathing treatment.
I'm so sick of people constantly telling me irl and on facebook "OMGGZZ YOU'RE GLOWING!!". No. I'm not glowing. I'm anemic, the opposite of glowing. The 'glow' comes from my half-assed application of the new blush palette I bought from Sephora. It's a tired old cliche and I want it to die.
But I acknowledge how menial this is compared to you guys.

@OperaSingerMommy I'm happy to hear nothing came from the threat. It's disgusting that someone would even think it, let alone utter a threat like that.
@a_wee_bit_terrified. I'm getting the opposite. I'd like to make it through one day at work without someone telling me "You look tired" or "you look like you feel terrible." Makes me want to say
@Mrs.EmmaLouise that reminds me of the episode of The Office when Kelly (mindy kaling, love her) ate a worm that was supposed to make her lose weight. One of my favorite episodes!
@nktrodden826@MrsLa3 DD has had croup x2 and only needed meds once because she was 6mo old. The second time around we alternated steam, cold, and she was kept on an angle to sleep (we put a pillow under one side of her crib). It sucks but it's usually self resolving.

@dancegurl1118 that's really helpful, thank you! Everything I read says you don't need to go to the dr until after 5 days of it not getting any better. He doesn't have a fever but around 1am I made DH go to the 24hr drugstore and buy a humidifier (we're moving so naturally it's packed away when we need it) and that seemed to help but took him into the cold while waiting for the humidifier. I'll put a pillow under his crib now.
@nktrodden826 all my kids had croup around Christmas, my daughter was better in 3 days with no meds, but both my boys took a turn for the worse and needed breathing treatments and a steroid. The pediatrician said they developed brochitis on top of their croup and DD didn't.
@nktrodden826 my kids just had croup and the doctor didn't give them any meds and they were over it in about 3 days. We didn't do anything special other than tylenol and ibuprofen for their fevers and made sure they were propped up when sleeping.

DS had croup a few months ago. Doctor told us to try taking him outside to breath cool air for a few minutes and give him a spoon of honey to help sooth his throat. She said to try that and to come back if it either didn't get better in a few days or if it got worse at any point. We ended up needing meds (syringe of 1 dose of dexamethasone sp?) and it cleared up in no time.
@OperaSingerMommy the Jewish Community Center in my grandmother's town was one of the several evacuated yesterday. It's horrific. ETA: I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin's daycare. That's the second daycare story I've heard "firsthand" today. Sickening.
Maybe this belongs on another thread, but even if you don't want to be a political person, I really encourage you to state publicly (social media, in conversation, whatever) that you condemn anti-Semitism and religious hate crimes. For many people it's such an "of course!" but since there's so much silence around it, it's becoming normalized. And as a religious minority, that is super scary to experience. I can't tell you how much it means to see a person outside your faith post or speak out about it. If you have Jewish or Muslim friends, just acknowledging these crimes and being a vocal friend is really meaningful. These hate acts make you (me) feel so paranoid and alone, and it's such a helpful thing to be reminded that most people are good. But that needs to be an active reminder.
(That's how I feel personally. Obviously I do not speak for my whole community, religion, etc.)
@stokesm21 tell me you have a picture of your dessert table!! I LOVE seeing wedding cakes and how theyre transforming into donut towers and dessert bars!! Should add to the AW wedding tread I guess!
**Stuck in the box**
Admittedly, I never even saw the dessert table. Not sure why. I knew it was there I just never wandered over. I did a candy bar which was a huge hit and then had my cake later. I would have to hunt for a pic of the cake which I'm not in the mood for right now haha!( Frustrating day at work)
I understand why many places have gone nut-free @stokesm21 but I still find it frustrating and (sometimes) over the top. I'm sure, because I feel that way, I'll end up with a super allergic kid, ha! But I think I'm generally annoyed by a lot of what has changed since we were little in the 80s (or at least I was little in the 80s). PBJ's, homemade bday treats, playing outside without supervision, etc. I understand that there are situations that warranted changes, but I also feel like we're an overly litigious society (in the US) and that motivates a lot of (sometimes unnecessary) changes. I'd like to think that if I were the parent of a kid with severe allergies, I'd be understanding about the fact that I need to be hyper-vigilant about his/her environment--I don't feel like I'd expect it to be kept perfectly nut-free without me even asking. My mom teaches first grade at the school I went to when I was growing up, and the number of things that aren't allowed now is crazy...and its not even based on a kid actually HAVING an allergy or condition--its just done because people are worried about getting sued. Long post, sorry. I understand your frustration, but I also understand the mom's, I guess.
I do get this completely. We have the same problems here in Canada. Person builds a rink in their front yard for their kids, someone complains and they have to melt it down. Kids are playing outside being kids, someone complains about the noise and the parents are visited by the cops. Kids are playing in their own freaking yard unsupervised, neighbour complains and parents also visited by the cops. Self-policing is rampant. I too remember when I was a kid I would go down the road with my friends and be gone for hours and my Mom never worried about where I was. Our babysitter and my sis got into a nasty bike accident together (they crashed into each other, road burn and everything) and even though my Mom was at work, 2 female neighbours were out there helping us and getting them both fixed up. It wasn't about, "Where was the parent?" etc. We all just took care of each other and it was wonderful. Thankfully I live in the country and my kids will be free to play outside unsupervised whenever they want. (Within age limits of course) I just don't worry. SS and his friend go wandering through the fields, make their way to the nearby trail and it's okay. I do agree that the fear of being sued is taking over our society. It's really sad.
@stokesm21 I'm not afraid of being sued as much as I'm afraid of someone calling CPS. Obviously the service they provide is invaluable in situations, but I've heard of them being called and kids being taken away just for letting kids play at the park across the street alone. At like age 10. It's getting insane. I want my kids to be able to play outside (age appropriate) and learn that independence without having my kids taken away from me for it.
