Weekly Randoms 2.19

It is so beautiful here this weekend! 50 degrees. We went for our first walk outside with a friend and her baby. Now today we will tackle a walk with the dog. I'm nervous for this one.

Re: Weekly Randoms 2.19

  • I hate walking with the dog and stroller - and that's with my H taking the dog. I almost hit him with th stroller probably 10 times last walk.

Also enjoying nice weather and going for lots of walks but other than that I feel like I have no idea how to entertain the baby. He still isn't interested in toys and while he's ok on his play mat for a bit it doesn't last and I hate him always laying on his back so I don't want him on it forever . He hates the swing and the rock n play is also short lived. I used to hold/cuddle him a lot but he doesn't want to just chill with me.

  • @m6agua I am SO jealous. We are at about 14 degrees with snow banks over the top of cars. It is SO annoying to have to brush all the snow off the car, let it warm up for 15 minutes while you bundle up your child like mad in order to go to the corner store. I'm so over winter.
  • We just got back from a day in the city because the weather is so awesome. It was also DH's birthday request that we hit up the Brooklyn Flea and then Katz Deli. I think all went well but DH seemed a bit stressed with a mouthy independent two yo and mildly fussy infant. What're ya gonna do?

@kvruns I wouldn't over think the being on his back. If he's happy that way and chills out, let it happen. And I don't think our daughter got into toys until about 6 mo. So at the most we shake a rattle together and read a book. Keep it simple. Oh, and stare at ceiling fans.

  • The weather here has been too rainy to go on many walks. I wish it was nicer out but we stay inside a lot. James is 13 weeks and just started "playing" with toys. And by playing I mean he can grasp a toy and bring it to his face. I usually dangle rings in front of him or a squishy stuffed animal.
We decided to go on vacation in December to Hawaii after the kids next birthday. I'm super excited but it means I really need to focus on getting in shape. At least I have motivation now!
  • @rspalding001 which island? We went to HI in May, I can't imagine taking a baby any time soon for me. Although my H step bro/SIL took their 9 month old this past fall though they live in CA so a shorter flight than the Midwest here.
  • @kvruns it would be Oahu. We took our daughter there when she was 2. This time she will be 4 and our son will be 1. I think it won't be so bad since we should be transitioned to cows milk by that time so less stress on me being the sole provider of nutrition ha ha. We also live in CA so shorter flight.
  • @rspalding001 ahh that's good on being in CA then. We also went to Oahu and stayed in Ko Olina. I really liked that area

My LO doesn't care too much for the swing either but she likes this chair. She can manage to stay in it for awhile before getting fussy.

  • @ladybug2821 that looks fantastic! Dumb question - do they need to have full control of their head to sit in it?
  • @Ladybug2821 I've seen people using those lately instead of the Bumbo it seems. We have a bumbo I picked up cheap so that's what we will use although I like your seat better
  • @hoosiermama The back comes up a little bit s d the seated position is at an angle. It does help support their head if they don't have full control yet.
  • @ladybug2821- Can their butt rest entirely on the floor? Or are they slightly suspended? Also weight/height limit? Lots of questions... sorry about that.

So my LO prefers laying on super soft, plush textures. Anyone have a lounger with that texture?

  • I'm mad at myself for being lazy and not running yesterday. I ran Friday, then took Saturday off bc I was sore, and then yesterday I was lazy. Now it's foggy out and not that great but I know I need to run. I miss the days when I could run effortlessly but now I feel awful when I run and it is sooo slow. I was faster when I ran 9 months pregnant!
  • how cute @leighry I love pictures of kids falling asleep in funny places
  • @SandNStarsNJ it is suspended so their butt doesn't touch the floor but it definitely supports their body. I believe the weight limit is 25 lbs but I can't remember.

This felt reassuring so I thought I'd share:  https://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2017/02/stressed_out_parents_should_relax_a_little_bit.htmlL

Stuck in the box. Great read! I needed that today. If I read or hear someone say "aware but drowsy" one more time I'm going to cry. It's nice to see things in perspective sometimes.
  • This is day 2 of LO sleeping about 2 hours for his morning nap. The schedule calls for an hour nap and usually he would make it about 45 min before screaming to get up. But yesterday and today he's been asleep and fussed a bit but gotten himself back to sleep so I'm just letting it ride. If H were here he'd be all "wake him up keep him on schedule" but nope I'm enjoying it since his naps are crap usually with his arms out. I do love looking in on the video and seeing the different positions he is in with his arms, sometimes sucking his hands, some times arms up, right now his arms look like he's doing "walk like an Egyptian"
  • My other random thought, H stocked up on Seventh Generation diapers from woot.com before LO was born. The newborns ran big so we used them as a transition between NB and 1. I just opened the 1s and they seem to run small - glad I checked now instead of thinkiing they would run big again and transition between 1-2s.

I put one on LO and less than an hour later his outfit was soaked with pee. The diaper wasn't wet, almost like he peed right out the side. I really hope it was a fluke and I didn't have the legs right. To be honest I don't love the Seventh Gens so if I could resell them on my local baby fb page I'd probably rather do that but I at least would like this open package to work .
  • I'm starting to wonder if giving LO a pacifier to go to sleep is causing her to wake more or make it more difficult for her to fall back asleep after realizing its fallen out. Anyone else notice that?

We had this issue with our first. We started using the Wubanub and it kept the pacifier close enough to her mouth that she could suck it back in.

  • @Ladybug2821 we have had trouble if he's not quite asleep but wants the pacifier it would fall out and he'd scream. I feel like he's grown out of it some and now with his hands out he's using them some. But there's no way I could have gotten him down without it. Sometimes id put him down and wait a bit to see if it fell out to see if he needed it and I could put it right back in or if he was ok without.
  • Best part of DH's birthday yesterday is that LO now has a balloon on his ankle and is fascinated. Thanks @mrsmaryk2016!
I need to get a balloon! The party store is all the way across town and I have not had a chance to get there yet.

  • It's the greatest thing! After M gets up in the morning I just strap it on his ankle and then eat breakfast, clean up, get dressed etc. while he kicks away! So glad LO loves it too!

DS got into a verbal confrontation with the balloon. I'm not sure what the balloon did but he was have an escalated conversation that got yelly.

I need help help on the leap/growth spurt/development front: LO is waking way more and today he will only sleep if I hold him - like crying on his mat, i pick him up and within seconds he is out cold. He's definitely seeing more but is way more clingy in the last two days. I don't know if it's a leap or if he's making up for not being able to be that clingy the previous three days. Oh, and he'll be 3 months this Saturday.

  • I need some random, non baby related advice: the husband and i have 5 weddings coming up this year so I bought this dress to cover the super dressy ones (at least 2): https://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/eliza-j-lace-faille-dress-regular-petite/3118113?cm_mmc=google-_-productads-_-Women:Dresses:Dress-_-315456&rkg_id=h-781109515688988d61eb4a6526a3ba93_t-1487795564&adpos=1o1&creative=145503089726&device=m&network=g&gclid=CLLthbHGpNICFcmKswodq_ADHA
It arrived last week, is beautiful and fits everywhere, except my boobs. I'm generally large chested but it's become ridiculous since I began breastfeeding. Since it fits everywhere, except the bust, should I take it to a tailor and have an additional panel put in the back or just send it back and get a bigger size?
  • @RhodaMorgenstern tailor definitely.
I am in the same boat. If you go a size up it will be too big everywhere else. The right tailor can do wonders.
  • @RhodaMorgenstern you could get the next size and take both to a tailor to see but I bet the one you have now would need less work. Cute dress
  • Genius @kristah2!

  • Thanks, everyone. Since it's Nordstrom and they have such a great return policy, I think I'll do what @kvruns suggested and bring both sizes to the tailor.
  • Sometimes I wish I hadn't started pumping tying to have a stash bc I'm out of freezer space but don't see the point in buying a separate freezer bc I don't think it would have much ROI. I plan to use the formula provided by my daycare so unless I stop nursing him I won't really work through what I have frozen anytime soon

We bought a freezer this time because I took up so much space with the last BM stash.

  • Did anyone else notice more veins in their eyes after pregnancy?  I know it's a weird question but I've noticed it and it makes my eyes look super red. H even noticed. Maybe it's from sleep deprivation.

My eye doctor said that pregnancy can permanently impact your vision and eyes. He didn't say anything specific to veins though.
