We talked about our jobs, now I am curious what everyone's SO does for a living. What does your SO do for work?

He works from home doing contract IT work for Honeywell. I don't know exactly what, something to do with managing their databases, I think?
Fun fact: Every 6 weeks he has to go On Call for a week, pager and all. During this week he can get pages 24/7 and has to drop whatever to go work on them (still at home). It means lots of up in the middle of the night and very little getting out of the house.

DH is a general surgeon also specializes in hepatobiliary. @nda_roxybabe you call him being on call a fun fact I call it an annoyance. Mine wears his pager 24/7 and even if he isn't on call, he will get paged at all hours. He's on-call once during the week and one weekend a month and back-up (to help if all hell breaks loose) one weekend a month. I don't usually mind but every once in awhile I would like a night without it.

My fun fact is that he actually has gotten those calls where someone put a bottle in their rectum. Twice from the same guy.

My DH graduated as a petroleum engineer but we hated the instability of the industry so he decided to go the civil engineering route. Plus we got to stay in Denver pretty readily because of it.

DH and I met 13 years ago in HS and he always knew he wanted to be a lawyer. Lots of years of schools and tests later and he has had his career as an attorney for just two years now! He is a prosecutor with the Los Angeles county district attorney's office but is still in his first year of training assignments here (which means they are moved around the county to at least three different assignments) and will then be more permanently placed. But we're pretty centrally located to most of the offices in this ginormous county so hopefully we won't have to move any time soon.

@SWE2 It's totally an annoyance! I am glad we only have to deal with it for a week every 6 weeks. The middle of the night pages suck. Especially when he's up all night and gets no sleep.

Mine started his own excavation company a few years ago after realizing he couldn't work for someone else (without getting in trouble). He does pretty well for only being around for a few years and has done both residential and commercial jobs. He also snow plows in the winter. And fixes my car when I crash it

DH is in home remodel and restoration. He was previously a chef for 20 years but the hours finally got to him. Now for the last 2 years he's been home more and off on weekends, which has been great for our family.

DH works for the Department of Corrections. He is always on call (as am I) but we have recently banned phones during dinner. We both had great anxiety about it at first, but now we love it.

DH & I met in law school. He knew he didn't want to be a lawyer and wanted to be one of those people that can "do anything with a JD." Turns out, it was very helpful for him. He's in compliance at a tech company (not the same one I work at). It's very weird that we both landed in the tech industry without planning to.

H is an accountant for our county's school system. After commuting to downtown Atlanta for 15ish years, it was a HUGE RELIEF to get a job closer to home (he saves 50 miles/day). The timing was great too - he got the new job while he was on leave after DS was born and basically never had to go back to his old job (except to tie up a few loose ends).

My DH is a biochemist at a pharmaceutical company working in drug discovery. He mostly works on oncology targets. He loves it, which is great since he spent 6 years in grad school for it while we lived basically just on my paycheck. In NYC. But I wouldn't trade those 6 years for anything...it was a FUN and terribly irresponsibly time for us.

My H is an auto mechanic at the moment. He's currently working on his associates to bachelors degree in business. He went straight out of high school to working because he hates school lol when we lived in CA he was the associate director of the clubhouse we both worked at. He loves management and strategic planning so he's hoping to do that when he's done with his degree because he can't get back into management without at least his associates...even though he has like 7 years of it. I feel bad

but he'll get there!!

Love this! You ladies and your SOs do some neat stuff! DH is a clinical psychologist and works as a professor at the same smaller state school as me. He teaches a few courses a semester and runs an undergrad research team. I think they are studying racism and death anxiety right now. Or maybe that was the last one, I kinda zone out when he talks about research. He will be venturing into a side hustle of private practice in June or July. The extra income will be nice, but it will also keep him fresh in the subjects he teaches. The week before Christmas he received his official license to practice. It's been so many hurtles and was such a relief to have that part of life done. For the last two years he has volunteered at a counseling center to gain hours for licensure.

H is a safety manager/director (? I don't really know his title) at a factory that makes car parts. Somehow he got into occupational health and seems to like it, although he complains about his job non stop.

Small rant ant and I apologize is this is a poor spot? MH comes home today complaining about how stressful his job is and how much he hates it. I get it and I feel for him that he's feeling that way... but it kind of falls on deaf ears for me. "Oh by the way H, I'm an ICU nurse where my decisions can literally mean the difference between life and death, I'm a full time grad student and also did I mention I'm growing a human being in my belly??"

i just wish wish he could find a productive way to deal with this. Nothing's going to be easier when we have a newborn at home! Ok rant over

DH is a manager at AT&T, he recently got his engineering degree but won't make any moves until I finish school since we are on 1 income, the exception is if an opening in the companies engineering side comes available.

DH currently is a grain inspector. So when grain elevators want to sell their grain and a train comes to pick it up, he has to go out there and test it to make sure that it is where the buying company wants it. He is kind of looking for a new job, and I really wish he would find one with computers since that's more of a dream job.

Ha, I was trying to think of the perfect way to explain DHs job because let's be honest I could say his "job" and it would make no sense.

So another property of US Government here! He works on the medical side and will have 10 years in this summer!

DH is production manager for the National Guard. He's been in the army for 21 years. Love the benefits but the 18 month long deployments suck. We've been through 3 so far.

MH is a healthcare recruiter for a national staffing agency. He had an interview a few weeks ago to be a recruiter for a well known LA hospital, and while he got the job, we don't know when he starts.

My wife is in real estate analytics and is able to work from home on her own schedule since she also takes care of our toddler. We basically flip flopped jobs a few years back: she was in technology, I was in real estate, and now it's the opposite.
