Stupid questions!

Re: Stupid questions!

  • I'm also keeping up with my gel manis. My only concern would be going to a well ventilated salon.

  • Is anyone using toner on their hair? I get balayage and then my hairdresser puts a toner over the top...I know my OB said no color on the scalp and no sitting under heaters. Does toner count? Lol

  • I quit doing gel manis simply because I would have had no time for the upkeep after DS. When I get manicures I only do a buff now and hardly ever get color.
  • Between my first pregnancy and this one, someone made a comment about not being able to eat Chinese food (take-out) during pregnancy. I had never heard that before ... and ate lots of Chinese take-out last time (it's DH's favorite) including my last meal before DD was born! (DD is perfectly fine btw.)

Has anyone else heard this "no takeout Chinese food during pregnancy" rule?
  • @sparksfly I've never heard that but I wonder if it has something to do with MSG...probably not a fab ingredient to consume on the regular.

I ate a handful of black licorice last night and then thought hmmm, I wonder if licorice is a no-no herb etc. So of course I Dr. Googled and about had a heart attack! Apparently if consumed in huge quantities, a chemical in it apparently passes through the placenta and can cause long term effects on the baby's brain. I was like oh hell no...tossed the licorice lol!

It really applies more to those countries where women consume A LOT of it...most people here are in the zero-to-low consumption category so not a big deal. Interesting though.

  • @sparksfly I've never heard of that either! I love Chinese food, too. Maybe it's a food poisoning thing or all the salt? I have no idea.
  • @daniellelynette  My mom blocked WebMD and the CDC website from our computers when I was in high school. I thought I had the mumps at least 4 times. I would work myself into a full blown panic attack over it.
    This is hilarious!!
  • Ok here's my stupid question : I created a knot account when I was getting married. My user name I had created then just automatically transferred to the bump since it's owned by knot. I can't figure out how to change my user name--anyone else experience this?
I just did this! There is an old thread about it that outlines what to do for you (https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/8093763/change-user-name). @pearl262 answered it best: "You can easily log in on theknot.com -- using your thebump.com info -- and under "My Account" there is an option right there to change your username. Not sure why "My Account" on thebump doesn't have the same option, but since all the sites are linked, you can just change your usename on theknot and it will automatically update on thebump (and thenest, etc.). I hope that's helpful!"
  • I drank about 12 oz of coffee a day through my last pregnancy. This time around it has lost some of its appeal and I'm down to a couple a couple of times a week.

  • My question, i always see everyone say you dont show in the first tri, which I basically agree with, but they also say the uterus is still behind the pelvic bone, and I've seen the picture. So my uterus is behind my pelvic bone still (10w, 3rd PG) then how when I got my ultrasound at 8w was I able to get a belly ultrasound (the thing was above my pelvic bone)?
  • @ashley2824 that's a really good question... I just did some googling and still have no idea. I'm going to take a wild guess and say maybe they can angle it to look down into your pelvis? They don't really explain why they can see it. Strange. My first ultrasound at 9 weeks with my first pregnancy was transvaginal so I have no idea!
  • @ashley2824 yes the ultrasound transducer can be angled downward (I'm assuming they put a little pressure on your abdomen and then tilted the transducer towards your pubic bone) and this way the ultrasound is able to go around the pelvic bone
  • @ashley2824 They did a belly US for us at 7+5 and we could see LO and the heartbeat just fine. According to the below link from Huggies, the reason you can see baby on the belly US is due to the fullness of your bladder. The full bladder makes the uterus sit higher and come up above the pelvic bone so you can see baby. That's why they ask you to drink alot of water before the  US.
