Re: March IVF

  • my RE says I should plan for a late Feb/early March ER, so I'll be on both the Feb ivf thread and this one

  • Great @caseyw8784 I'm in it for very late March so I'm here for the long haul. What protocol are you doing? IVF #?

Afm- doing lupron flare or down regulation. This is IVF #2.

  • I'm doing IVF in March! This is our first treatment other than one round of clomid last month. We jumped to IVF in order to save my eggs while I'm still relatively young (I'm 36 - will be 37 in April)

I Had a baseline US this morning and only had 6 follicles on each side (the nurse said that's kind of low). I will be on BCP until march 1 then on HMG and FSH (possible lupron trigger) with retrieval on March 17, PGS testing on the 22nd and transfer the 23! That's if all goes well......I know all sorts of issues can come up, but hoping for the best

    thanks for starting this thread!

@rainbowwishes5 - my doc hasn't mentioned a "name" to my protocol, i don't think. But i'm currently doing the 3(+) weeks of BCP, and then will start Follistim on CD2, and add in Menopur and Cetrotide, and will do an HCG trigger. Doc said it might be changed to Lupron - my baseline AFC count usually tends to be on the high side, so they'll decide later on depending on my risk for ohss...

ETA - this is my 1st ivf cycle too!
  • I'm going to join this party since my ER will (hopefully) be this week but FET will be in March.  GL to everyone just getting started.
History and blog link in spoiler
2016 - dx with super low ovarian reserve; failed cycle with clomid, failed IUI,
    2017 - egg retrieval #1 - 3 eggs, 0 embryos appropriate for transfer; ER #2 2 eggs, 0 embryos on day 3; ER #3 1 egg 0 embryos
moved to donor egg in summer 2017; 35 eggs retrieved; 19 fertilized; 9 total embryos
Fresh transfer Dec 2017= BFP!  baby boy born 8/22/18

May 2019 - surprise natural pregnancy ended in MC
Nov 2019 FET; MC at 9 weeks
    May 2020 FET; BFN
July 2020 FET; CP treated with methotrexate
    Oct 2020 BFP!

  • Thanks for starting this @rainbowwishes5!  Just had my ER last Thursday for (somewhat disappointing) IVF#1, but am mentally preparing to jump into IVF#2 next month.  Will start the bc again on CD3, and see if the Dr. wants to switch anything up with the protocol.

So I'm also on both February and March, putting a transfer no earlier than April (depending on what we get next month - I'd be more open to transferring next round if it looks like none will make it to biopsy anyway, but I'd rather not go there).

  • I'm hoping to be joining you ladies in March as well.  It will be for IVF #1.  I have my final IUI this week, but we have a really poor chance of success with IUI. After this cycle we have to get approval from insurance to move on. If we don't have any barriers we'll be for stims and egg retrieval in March!
  • So I had a baseline u/s yesterday and they only saw 6 follicles in each ovary. The nurse's comment was "well, I thought there would be a lot more since your AMH was so high, but that's a pretty low count. I'm still ok with you moving forward with IVF though". Um.....ok. I also saw a couple of larger follicles that seemed like they could be problematic, but she didn't say anything about them (I've had dozens of follie scans for research in the past, so I know my ovaries pretty well). i wasn't expecting to start out feeling so bummed, but maybe it was the low count coupled with the gigantic bill for meds I just paid. Ugh.

  • Well, just scheduled a hysteroscopy for 2/23 (assuming this AF comes in time - I was told about 10 days after ER) with a plan to start stimming  again around March 5 (though I just realized that'd only be 2 weeks on bc instead of 3).  Really hope the March cycle won't be as disasterous for me as the February one was.  Prepping for a fresh xfer this time case it is though (freezing/PGS testing was the idea, but our few embryos appear not to like being in a Petri dish).

@rainbowwishes5 May I ask what protocol your first IVF was?  As poorly as IVF#1 went for me last week, I suspect it was (frustratingly and depressingly) a function of egg quality (although somehow one kept growing to almost 12 weeks last year...).  AMA's no fun.  My Dr. said if she changed anything she'd recommend the lupron protocol, but she usually recommends that for synchrony problems which I didn't have, and I'm concerned about over suppression from it since I'm not working with many follies anyway - so it looks like we'll do the same thing and hope for a better result (insane?).

@PoeMasque Sorry you're disappointed, but more may come around!

@SugarHead Hope your IUI works, but if not, I hope getting your insurance approval goes smoothly! It sounds like it does for most people - authorization for my first cycle was denied (because I froze a few eggs in 2012) and my doctor had to do a peer to peer review to get it approved.  I imagine with the dismal results of this month's cycle getting approval for my March cycle won't be as much of a problem.

  • @SugarHead - i'm waiting for insurance approval too! i had gotten the approval earlier in the year but we had delay after delay after delay and ended up needing to get the yearly exams/tests done and re-submitted. I was told that i was "guaranteed" an answer within 14 days, which i think is this coming tuesday, so I'm getting really antsy! Everything is ready to go once my doc gets the word, so it seems like time is going even slower!

  • @casew8784 @artemis618
My insurance has been really tough to work with. It's so weird that they'lol pay out easily for some things and not other things. I'm just hoping that they don't come up with any more excuses to not cover a cycle in March. The plan is to submit for pre-certification as soon as my period or BFN come, then start birth control and wait for a response from insurance.  otherwise we have everything ready to go.
  • @emgem819 currently no- I'm just lurking. I'm waiting on the results of my RPL panel before I make any move. Thanks tho.

  • I am moving over to this group from the Feb group. I had hysteroscopy done with currettage on feb 3 and my endometrium was cobblestone in appearance with polps (again). This week, they did an ultrasound and saw that there was still tissue and blood in my cavity, so they moved my stim start date to Feb 22. I should have my ER and ET the first week of March if all goes well. Can't wait to stop BCP!

  • Hey Ladies! Looks like I'm starting  a little later than you guys, but it's been great reading a heads up on what to expect :). I tried IVF last year but only had 1 follicle after day 5 of stims so they cancelled. Hopefully I'll have better results this time. I should be starting next Friday!

@QsMadd sounds like our cycles will be close! I can't wait to stop this bop too lol
  • Hi Everyone! I am also scheduled to start stims at the end of this month (2/24) with ER in early March (estimated 3/7). Just started my BCP this morning. I have never been so excited for AF to arrive! This is my first round of IVF so I'm nervous about what to expect.

Are most of you planning to do PGS? My RE doesn't seem too confident in it, but my husband and I are still unsure. We are planning on doing an FET anyway but I'm worried about potential harm to the embryos. They told us we have to decide in the next week.

    Me: 31 DH: 31

    Married: June 2012

    TTC: December 2015

    DX: MFI

    IVF #1: March 2017- 16R, 12F, 4 blasts, 2 PGS normal (3BB & 3CB)

    IVF #2: May 2017- 19R, 17F, 6 blasts, 1 PGS normal (5CC)

    FET#1: July 2017- BFP!

  • I just started my BCP yesterday, and my wife (who's making the eggs) will start hers with her next cycle, about next week.  So we might make the ER in March, or it might get pushed to late April.

This will be our 4th IVF attempt.  I tried twice with my own tired ovaries, and both cycles cancelled for poor response.  My wife got ready to rev up her ovaries, but she wasn't properly suppressed last month, so we had to wait.  Hopefully we'll make it to ER this time!
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • Exciting to see so many more people joining this group! Hi everyone! :)

AFM, just checking in...we are still waiting on insurance to renew our prior authorization (any day now, they say!), and then we can order meds and I can stop BCP. So it looks like a very late Feb/early March ER and then a late March/early April FET, depending on how long the PGD and PGS testing takes...

@rainbowwishes5 I'm sorry that you're hurting :(. #1 for me was antagonist also. I hesitate to do the same thing again because it was such a complete failure, but perhaps my expectations were too high given my age (though I thought hoping for *something* to survive and develop was setting the bar low).

@SugarHead My Dr. and IVF nurse made it sound like my insurance company was being exceedingly difficult (dealing with the companies on a regular basis), but my acupuncturist seemed to think it was somewhat normal for them to make you work for it (deny first then make you appeal).  Again, fingers crossed yours is easy.

@mtele We really wanted to do PGS (that - and potentially banking - ha! was kind of the main point of doing this after last year's TW not quite 12-week loss), but unfortunately nothing made it far enough to be tested. :(. But also I'll be 40 this year - still not sure what happened.

Edit:  Pushed back a week so that I can go skiing before starting stims, so that'll be around 3/12 now.

  • @artemis618 thanks.  I'm sorry you had a poor response. Me too. Only 2 blasts untested. So if I do another cycle it'll be lupron flare to try and get more eggs. Have you thought about trying another protocol?

@rainbowwishes5 Aw, I'm sorry your response wasn't what you wanted.  I didn't even have anything make it to blast, which was not quite what I expected.  My insurance only covers two cycles - but based on this first one IVF just may not agree with us.

I have thought about trying another protocol, but I'm a little scared of oversuppression with Lupron. The quantity was probably about all I could have hoped for - even when I froze eggs 4.5 years ago I only got 12R, 9M (I certainly hope the quality is better - was hoping not to have to go there to ttc #1 as those were supposed to be last resort, but it's kind of looking like we may have to).  Unfortunately, egg quality seems to be my problem (less than half fertilized, some just disintegrated when ICSI'd).

    Hang in there!

  • Hi ladies! Starting first IVF mid-March! I'm 35 and decided to do PGD. I look forward to learning from all of your posts! Good luck to all!
  • @artemis618 my big concern is no blasts too. It's a destroying feeling to hear the blast count. I'm so sorry. I'm thinking abt doing micro lupron flare Bc it supposed to increase # of eggs for ER. So, my hope is I'd get 1 or 2 more eggs. My dr said its genetic for us to be poor responders and it's just luck of the genetic draw and we pulled a poor hand in life. Ughhhhhhhhhhh

  • ******Trigger Warning*******

I sorta fit in here....  My past few years are fairly complicated, but my sister is donating eggs for me to use for IVF in December/January.  She finally has her US scheduled for Monday 2/13 to see if she is where we think she is in her cycle (she has had a hysterectomy, but still has her ovaries and cramps, etc every month and is pretty in-tune with her body), and if so, she will start 2 weeks of BCPs, then injections so we can have an early March ER.  We've been working towards this since last May, so it is exciting to see things finally move forward!  The 'known donor' egg donation process is much more complicated than I thought it would be--we had to draw up a legal contract, all 4 adults involved had to have psych evals, ets.  Plus, my sister lives in another state so we're coordinating between her local US clinic and my fertility clinic, and she had to fly up here for the initial paperwork and return for the actual ER.  Lots of logistics, but so worth it!

    ***Trigger Warning******

Synopsis of my history:  Diagnosed with BRCA related breast cancer in 2013--did an ER and froze embryos just prior to starting chemo.

Got the OK to start IVF from my oncologist in 9/15.  Only one embryo cleared PGS/PGD testing, so we tried another ER, but my ovaries refused to respond at all and that was cancelled.

My sister offered to donate eggs, so we started getting things together for that--our plan was to have 2 kids, so we wanted to use her eggs for baby #2 at the very least.

We transferred my only embryo in 7/16, but that FET was not successful. In a complicated twist of fate, my body did not shed that FET-created uterine lining at the right time, and decided to ovulate from the one functioning follicle I have left, also at the total wrong time in my cycle, and I got pregnant the old-fashioned way.  We've had tons of testing and are expecting a normal, healthy baby in 5/17.

Still going forward with the ER from my sister for baby #2, which had been our plan.  We'll be doing PGS and possibly PGD (there are BRCA mutations in my family that we'd rather not pass on), and hope to transfer as soon as I am cleared by my OB and RE, which will be December/January.  I'm old, so we've gotta get this show on the road, plus my ovaries need to come out ASAP because I carry a very high risk of developing ovarian cancer.
Me: Age 40  Husband: Age 41
Chemo killed my ovaries (along with a BRCA1 mutation, which causes DOR)
4/30/13 ER just prior to chemo: 8 embryos frozen at 2pn. 2 survived to blasts/1 PGS normal

    4/16 ER cancelled on CD7: 1 follicle on L/ 0 follicles on R
    FET #1  7/13/16  BFN

    Super shocker +HPT 9/19
    Baby Alyce arrived 5/8/17

Went forward with donor eggs from my sister for baby #2
ER 4/24, 5 eggs fertilized/1 survived to blast and was chromosomally normal.

    FET 2/15 (my sister/donor's birthday!).  Beta 10dp5dt:172; beta 12dp5dt: 425

Things are really picking up around here! So exciting! smile

AFM, I just checked my insurance account online, and saw that they've approved prior authorization for this ivf cycle! So I'm hoping that my nurse at my RE's office will be able to get to work tomorrow (yay for blizzard #2? lol...) and we can order the meds and tell me when to take my last BCP. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll be able to start stims!  smiley

    ETA: words are hard.
  • @caseyw8784 that's amazing news. I'm glad your insurance when through and you get to move on!  I'm hoping for the same great news in 2-3 week :)

i was going through my IVF instruction packet and it recommends 8 12oz fluids.  How are you ladies increasing your water intake? I'm guilty of having a coffee in the morning and sometimes no liquids until dinner.  I need to get hydrated
  • Hello All! I am new to the boards. My husband and I have started our first IVF cycle. IVF is our only route to having biological children since my husband has a blockage from a surgery he had as a baby. They already did a biopsy and was able to find good sperm to freeze so we just have to pray that sperm thaws well or he will need to go through that again the day of ER which would add more stress to everything. I’m currently on BCP and will take my last one on 2/15 and plan to have my baseline u/s on 2/20 and if everything looks good start stims that night. I will be on Menopur and Follistim and then Ganirelix will be thrown into the mix later on. My estimate ER is early March. We will be doing ICSI with PGS and hopefully a FET later on. This is all very exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. I’m glad we will finally be getting things really start but worried about all the steps and possible issues that can arise. I’m going to try and stay positive. Sending out good vibes to all you ladies that March will be a good month!

  • Glad to see that more people are joining! I had my nurse teaching visit today where they go over all of the meds and the recommendations for the procedures. They told me that they recommend taking 3 days off for the transfer (day of, plus 2 after), which surprised me. They don't recommend bed rest, but just taking it easy and doing light activity. I wasn't planning on taking that much time off from work for the transfer. Do other places recommend this much time off?

@artemis618 - So sorry to hear about your loss. That is one of the things that I'm afraid of, but I know PGS can't totally prevent it either. Fingers crossed for you this time around! Frozen eggs sounds like a good backup, but I hope you don't have to use them yet. We decided to go with PGS, but if we end up having only a few embryos we will probably cancel it.
