Re: Weekly Random 2/6

  • My ultrasound on Friday showed that I have an anterior placenta  I'm bummed that it will take longer than usual to feel the baby move.
  • Loading the player...
  • My random is weight gain.

This happened during my last pregnancy too, but for some reason I'll go weeks without a single ounce gain. And then bam! 5 lbs the next day. I find it so strange.

I weigh myself each morning...just part of my routine. I hadn't gained anything ...now this morning I'm up 5. I'm not complaining, I just think it's so weird! Same thing happened last time...I'd go 4-6 weeks with no gain...then 3lbs one day.

Normally when I'm not pregnant, I fluctuate quite a bit.
  • I just want to say, I'm really damn excited we should be having a girl (95% probability after M21 testing). We're going to be one-and-done. I was hoping for a girl. Even though I want all the gear to be gender neutral, as our entire home is done up in soft grays and browns and whatnot, I am allll about the girly clothing. I was in Baby Gap yesterday (looking for their non-existent in-store maternity section, ugh) and was just dying over little eyelet dresses and tights with tulle skirts and ruffled bathing suits. Unfortunately BG is kind of pricey but I'll start dropping hints to my family and maybe I'll get stuff at the shower, haha.

Told DH yesterday that, even though he was more hoping for a son, he's gonna be like the dad in Clueless with our daughter:

  • At 12 weeks exhaustion is still getting me. I'm taking Diclegis which helps with the nausea and I haven't vomited since last saturday but exhaustion is still here.

I'm so bummed because I volunteered to be a judge for the Regional Science fair this morning, I even went to the training session yesterday afternoon. Upon waking up this morning I had a massive headache and was sooo exhausted even though I slept early (10pm) last night. I had to be at the science fair by 730am and when that alarm clock went off, my body was telling me to not get up. I'm so bummed....woke up later, missed the science fair, and went to work with the same headache. Thank goodness the headache is gone.

When will the exhaustion please go away?? Hurry up 2nd trimester. I swear I wasn't this bad with the pregnancy symptoms with my 1st pregnancy of DS.  Nausea & exhaustion were not this bad, heck I never vomited with DS.

  • @dma0389 it's interesting because with DD I remember feeling miserable during first tri, this time around it has been a huge difference... because of this I kinda feel like I'll be having a boy (I think there's an old wives tale that you get sicker with girls) anyways I guess we shall see!

I hope you do start to feel better soon, second trimester is just around the corner!

  • It's a snow day today, so no school. Usually the snow days here are about an inch of snow, but there are probably a good 4-6" in our yard. Too bad my dogs are suspicious of the snow. I may have to toss them in it later to make them play, lol.

  • I can not watch/read/hear about sad or happy things related to dogs.  I just ugly cried at the episode of Greys where Meredith's dog dies (season 2).  Its the same episode that denny dies, but that had no effect on me, but watching them put the dog down, ugly cry for like 5 minutes! Any cute adoption story on FB, nope, I break down.  Hormones are crazy.  I never cry at anything, but as this pregnancy keeps going, I cry more and more easily.

I even started to tear up about it again, typing this!

  • I'm wondering if anyone is doing any craft projects to get ready for baby? I made some crib sheets and started a diaper bag, but wondering if anyone else has fun things they're working on? XO
  • @emilyrose807, once I know the sex i will be crocheting a blanket. I am looking at patterns right now.
  • Nice, my mom is doing one that matches my nautical primary colors nursery theme. And my husband's grandma is doing a baby animals quilt.
  • @emilyrose807 I DIY'd anything cloth in the nursery during my first pregnancy and we are using the same nursery again. I made the sheets (2), crib skirt, changing pad covers (2), rug, window balance, curtains, cloth wipes, wet bags, pail liners, etc. DH and I made a huge abacus together that hangs above the crib. My mom quilted a crib blanket that matches everything else. This time I'm focused more on DD's room.

  • @pbandjyummies I know, countdown is ticking for me lol. You know what's funny, with DS the nausea and morning sickness was not bad as this during 1st tri. You talked about during your pregnancy w/DD is was a miserable 1st tri, oh I know that miserable feeling this time around.  Guess we shall both see!!

  • Is anyone not having a first trimester ultrasound?  I have to call my insurance to see if they'll cover the NT tests (they probably don't) so I most likely won't have one until the gender scan at 18 weeks! I'm 11 weeks today and still haven't heard a heartbeat yet so maybe after my appointment next week I'll feel better about it but I am just dying to see my baby!  It still doesn't feel totally real and I feel like if we see him/her I'll feel more comfortable telling people!

I need to find a weekend to make crib sheets and baby leggings. I have way too many old knit clothes that would make great leggings. I may crochet a blanket as well but most women in my family crochet and some knit so I'm hoping one of my aunts or my mom makes one for baby.

  • @Hairartbyalyssa, check with your insurance. Mine covered NT but none of the newer genetic tests. My birth center just planned for the anatomy scan but I requested the NT. I really loved seeing my baby! It was so surreal seeing that tiny perfectly formed human being.
  • @Hairartbyalyssa I had 2 US in the first tri.  I had one at about 7 weeks to date the pregnancy and make sure things were progressing due to a previous missed miscarriage, and then I had my NT scan just after 12 weeks.  My insurance did cover both, but they didn't 100% cover the genetic testing, but we went for that anyway.  We did decide to go with the lowest genetic tests, so we did not find out the sex, but that was fine with us.

  • Here's another random verging into unpopular opinion territory. I'm surprised that anyone actually "enjoys being pregnant."
As far as I can tell, it sucks. Yes, the first trimester is rough. But the second trimester belly gain comes with its own problems even if "you're supposed to feel so much better!" and let's not even talk about the discomfort coming in the third. You have to buy new clothes (potentially for your new permanent body after baby too). You have to go to the doctor all the time. You can't do things you normally enjoy, like drinking or engaging in certain sports or exercise or heck, going on rides at amusement parks. You get the stress that comes with financial planning and planning for infant safety and family intrusion.

Yes, this pregnancy was planned and both DH and I are really excited for this baby, but I told him yesterday I wish I just had to lay an egg and sit on it for awhile like birds do. It's not like human babies pop out self-sufficient so why we have to suffer for the better part of a year is beyond me.

I had no illusions about pregnancy being "easy" or "magical" but this is still just a really unpleasant means to an end.

  • @DeansGirl14 I'll let you know what I think in 6 months. So far I do think it's pretty awesome! I love the idea of having a tiny human inside me. I admit I did have a very easy 12 weeks thus far. I'm also very excited for a baby bump and a cute maternity wardrobe. I confess that this may all change by the end of the pregnancy so this is not my definitive opinion  :#
  • @DeansGirl14 I LOVED being pregnant the first time. I had every symptom times a million but I loved it. I believe it had something to do with the fact that it was all new and exciting.
This time I hate it. I don't even have any morning sickness but I don't know how women can do this more than twice. I wish I could fall asleep and wake up after the delivery.
  • @DeansGirl14

I am right there with you.  Your post made me smile.  I just had this conversation with two of my friends.  We were laughing and bonding while discussing how miserable pregnancy is. We are part of the same Mom's group and were questioning how some women could love the experience since none of us seemed to enjoy it. This would probably make a conversation starter at our next meeting. The three of us are truly mystified.

I am not starting anything until I know the sex. I made a quilt and car seat blanket for DD, so I will do that for this one too.

  • I really wish I was crafty so I could make something, but I don't have an artistic bone in my body.

    My random:
I'm expecting the phone call from my OB's office this week with the genetic test results. I'm really anxious & I feel like the stress is making me even more nauseous than I have been.  :/
  • Ugh I actually love crafting but I don't feel like I have the time (I tend to get obsessive at the expense of sleep so best to avoid).

My random (somewhat related to @PinkPrincessPiper although odds are highly likely everything will be fine - both for you and for me): I'm doing the integrated screen and the CF carrier test. I've been much more hung up on the integrated screen - seems like blood work for that came back fine but still have the NT ultrasound and second trimester blood test to go. I got a call from my doctor last night that I am a carrier for CF. Since I am, DH will go get tested but that will take over a week to get the test ordered, blood work done, sent to the lab, and then get the results back. We have an appointment this Friday, and assuming we heard the heartbeat, we were planning to tell both of our bosses, the rest of our families, and some friends next week but now thinking we need to hold off. CF is life-shortening but not life-threatening for baby, we just want to share the news there's a high chance of having a disorder at the same time. This also means my brother and sister have a 25%-50% chance of being carriers. Regardless of DH's results, this is something I'm discussing with my mom. My brother got married last year and they are likely going to start TTC a few months after their delayed honeymoon to St. John (in next month or two I think).

I know the odds of my husband being a carrier are 1 in 29 (I've also seen 1 in 25) since he is Caucasian as well. He was trying to say that the odds of him and I both being carriers is 1/29*1/29 and I had to explain to him that me being a carrier has no bearing on his 1 in 29 odds - he's pretty smart, so I think he knew this. I was a little emotional while processing last night and I think he was just trying to make me feel better, but I am a numbers-minded person. I find comfort in those numbers still, but you aren't going to be able to trick me into thinking the chances are different of us both being carriers now. If we are, there is a 1 in 4 chance that each of our children would have CF, so even if this baby is fine (we'd likely do amnio so we'd know and have time to research), it would always be on my mind for future TTC-ing.

Sorry this was so long. I'm still processing. We've waited to tell most of our family and any friends and I was excited to finally share the news. Anyone else have thoughts on telling in the middle of testing? This is also making me want to wait until after our NT scan next week and maybe even the second trimester blood draw and/or amnio (if DH is a CF carrier) after 15+ weeks, but I'm not sure I can keep up the pretense at work and around my friends. I've been able to order ginger ale and pretend it's a mixed drink most of the time, but sometimes beer or wine is the only option and I just have to abstain. They're going to catch on pretty soon, if they haven't already.

  • @belmont1785 same exact pattern! I lost 5lbs at the beginning due to nausea, then it very slowly crept back on and I was feeling really good about staying right around my starting weight, then BAM, the day of my 12 week appt I'm up 5lbs! I also weigh myself as part of my routine so I expected it to go down the next day but it was only a .2lb difference.
  • I'm already in the middle of crafting a birth announcement sampler (cross-stitch) for a bestie due in April, so I'm trying to outsource the crafts. Bestie 2 is knitting baby blankets, Mom is needlepointing a Christmas stocking (as she did for every one of my cousins, but not me or my brother, so I'm excited to finally have one), and I might get another friend to work on some sewing projects and a cousin to knit some baby hats. Also, my grandma used to make baby booties for everyone (she died two years ago) so I'm really hoping someone will track down a pair and send them along!
  • Anyone NOT have the NT scan done? My OB said because we did the Harmony blood test, that the NT scan wasn't really necessary. If we had started with the NT scan and seen something odd, then we would have done further blood tests. Just want to make sure I'm not missing an important step..

  • @secicc12 I did neither with my first pregnancy.   I did the NT this time more to get an ultrasound than anything since our insurance covers 100%

That's helpful.. thank you! I was worried we might miss something the blood work wouldn't catch, but sounds like it is optional.

  • It depends on what your dr says.  Some say 13 some say 14.  If you divide 40 weeks by 3 trimesters, you get 13.3, so some people say 13 weeks 3 days is the official, but most people say 14 weeks.

  • Ok I was just wondering because I keep hearing different things. @Lauradi1010 @littlebug2010 I always thought it was 14. But a lot of others were saying 13. Guess it just depends on the doctor like you said.
  • I was super confused my first pregnancy. My OB goes with 14 weeks as the official start of second trimester.  That way the other two tri-mesters are solid 13 week chunks.  It probably works better for record keeping that way.

Is the car seat blanket one of the ones that fits over the car seat? I was thinking of trying to make one, just need to find a pattern.

I adore the idea of having some blankets to leave at the hospital for another momma. That is beyond sweet.

I picked a light yellow instead of green. My mom thinks it's too boyish but blue is my favorite color. I think it's ok for either a boy or a girl (I'm team green).
