I have actually wondered that too, @jmn1985  it is called the gestational sac I think

Very dumb quesiton here   :)  In the ultrasound board.... why is the void (i don't know what it is- the black pouch the baby is in?) a different size for everyone?  Like, the baby to void ratio is very different for each one.
The black space is the placenta in the uterus. So I would assume different sizes are based on weeks of baby and angle of the transducer when they did the ultrasound.

    Right? Thoughts?

Fairly certain it's the amniotic fluid and not the placenta. The placenta is an organ attached to the embryo/fetus via the umbilical cord. The embryo isn't inside the placenta. They'll measure this space during the AS to make sure fluid is sufficient for growth later on.
  • At my first ultrasound, I was told the black space is water. So I'm guessing it's the amniotic fluid, and also they saw my very full bladder lol

lol yes, I meant amniotic fluid. In my mind that was the placenta.#babybrain
    thank you!
  • I wonder if the amount of amniotic fluid is tied to how much water someone is drinking...
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @mrsmgsee That's an interesting question. I know there's an index of what is normal and I know you can have too much or too little. I also know that, much like breastmilk, amniotic fluid is synthesized from your blood. Once your LOs kidney function kicks in, they start drinking and peeing and creating more fluid as well. But because it's made from your blood, I would think that staying hydrated should help!
  • I'm on team drinking one cup of coffee still. I cut back significantly (was drinking 3+ cups daily) but can't fully kick it and actually function during the day.
My dumb question: anyone have experience with getting bikini/Brazilian waxes during pregnancy? I was about to schedule one but read somewhere that you shouldn't during the first tri? I just want to get back in the habit of having it done before I can't see myself below the belly button lol.
  • @MrsJessS I had a Brazilian done 2 weeks ago and I plan to have one done in another two weeks. I guess I never thought that I might not be allowed to.

  • @MrsJessS either my sister or friend got one, i think it was middle or end of the PG but they said never again will they get a wax while PG bc their skin was super sensitive
  • My last pregnancy I got a brazilly about 3ish months in. It was super painful and I ended up with a bunch of bruising and popped blood vessels. I will avoid them this pregnancy.

  • @sugarpixxie2 oh good! I'm thinking I'll sign up and put on there that I'm 7 weeks and that way they can let me know if they won't do it

@ashley2824 yikes! My hope is that getting started early will thin it out as time goes by and will get less bad over time?!

@Souptin did you have hard or soft wax? I have awful luck w soft but hard I can manage.
  • @MrsJessS I still get waxed with no issues. I asked my doctor and she said it's perfectly fine. It was also in the printed info she gave me... the only issue would be depilatory creams with all the chemicals.

  • @MrsJessS I sugared my entire pregnancy the last time since I was due in November and couldn't see what was going on down there. The best part was, your hair growth slows down during pregnancy (or at least it did for me) and it made for less painful hair removal. I'm waiting till second trimester just because it's still pant weather here and I can still detail the area myself ATM.
  • @MrsVP614 awesome! Thanks. This is making me feel so much more "normal." Googling led me to believe I was a crazy person!
@kailapop hahah I'm on team could still do it myself but just really have zero desire to
  • My next appointment will be at 11 weeks... they won't do an ultrasound, but will they check the heartbeat with a Doppler or anything?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @HollyGolightly09 most likely. My dr listens for the heartbeat at every appt following the first (too early to try).
  • @Sprite2012 I had a couple homemade lattes right after I got my BFP, but soon after coffee and tea both lost all its appeal for me. I'm just now getting to the point where I'm even considering hot tea again. Even when I drank coffee before, it was a struggle to finish a cup, and I was pretty sure I wasn't gonna drink anymore for a while. I was a very regular 1 cup in the morning, sometimes a cup in the evening drinker. You could ask my husband how much I depended on that morning cup lol.

  • @maddisonwallace and @daniellelynette  I'm pretty sure you'll start showing earlier this time.  I was 120lbs before my first pregnancy, in really great yoga shape.  I didn't start showing until 18 weeks.  This time, I was probably 125lbs before getting pregnant, and I'm sitting here in maternity yoga pants (8 weeks tomorrow).  None of my pants fit.  All of my friends warned me that it'd happen sooner this time, but I cannot believe THIS early!
Ditto. I was 107 to start last time and I'm fab shape...showed at like 18w and put on 40lbs but disnt really start until second Tri. This time I started at 109-110, am at just over 7wks and already up to 114...so gaining quicker and showing more bloat than last time.

@Sprite2012 I'm still drinking coffee because kids. My kid and the 31 kids I deal with daily. I've cut back though. I was drinking around three 10oz coffees a day. Now I'm just drinking one 10oz in the morning.
There's about 200mg caffeine in 10oz of just coffee from Starbucks...
i just bought some iced tea and the back of the bottle said "45mg per 12oz"...for reference to those drinking coffee/tea.

  • My dumb question...can we use perfume? I mean, if the scent doesn't bother us? I don't recall if I used it last time but thought I read it was a no-no the other day and I've been spritzing!

  • Ok here's my stupid question : I created a knot account when I was getting married. My user name I had created then just automatically transferred to the bump since it's owned by knot. I can't figure out how to change my user name--anyone else experience this?
  • As a follow up to my stupid caffeine question - I spoke to my midwife today and she talked a lot about not smoking pot (I don't smoke pot but I live in Colorado ;) ), but didn't mention caffeine.  I asked and she told me not to fret about it.  Her exact words, "whatever you've been drinking daily since your last pregnancy is just fine."

@kaylaakosua haha and the weather down here has been making the need for panic change daily! It was 80 a couple days ago, 48 today and back to 80 Sunday!!
  • I went the first few weeks without any caffeine but now I allow myself one Diet coke or iced chai a day....those first few days were AWFUL when i was detoxing from ibuprofen and caffeine at the same time. ugh.

@lizzieburgess I think there's a way, but you do have to do it through the knot. I've never done it so I don't know specifics though.

  • @Texafornian According to most major organizations, perfume is perfectly safe! There was a scare-mongering study teased in 2009 in the UK, but it was quickly debunked as bad science, it seems. I'm a huge perfume wearer, so I did a ton of research when first getting that BFP.
  • @Becky012016 my pregnancies were night and day. With my son. I was sick as a dog.  Like throwing up outside in the bushes sick.  I couldn't stand the smell of seafood.  Or go to a public restroom without losing my lunch. With my Daughter. I felt nothing. No sickness or anything. Just a growing belly.  My OB says it's normally the opposite though.
  • @Texafornian You are so brave! I don't know if I can even handle the smell of my own perfumes, I haven't worn any for a while. Today while in the grocery store I passed by a middle aged lady who was DOUSED in old lady perfume and it was so thick I could taste it and I about threw up right there, I had to go outside. It was AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!
  • @daniellelynette oh it's not bravery...I can tolerate one of my perfumes but the smell of any of my DH's makes me want to barf in his face!  :p

@Texafornian Really? I've been spritzing too. I don't remember ever reading recently or with DS that it was a no-no.  :#

ETA I just saw @IdleFancy's answer. Yay! Because if I'm being honest, I feel like I really stink sometimes and I need that perfume.

  • Msashley2010 and parker0706 about weight gain...
I'm similar to you ladies.  I gained 35lbs during my first pregnancy and only ever lost 25 of it.  So I'm starting pregnancy #2 at least 10 lbs heavier than I was for the first one.

Here's the thing I keep reminding myself.  I have a friend who was about 135 lbs before her first pregnancy and kept some of the pregnancy weight on after that (about 155).  She had her second baby last year and told me days after she delivered that she was already less than her pre-pregnancy weight of 155.  Maybe my friend is an anomaly, but I am crossing my fingers that it will at least be easy to get back to my current curvy self.  The rest I can deal with later.

I do one 10 oz cup of iced coffee a day in my "green smoothie" i have first thing post gym.  (1 banana, 2 cups raw spinach, unsweetened almond milk and iced coffee blended with ice)
I also get Brazilian'ed - both my OBGYN and my esthetician said it was safe all the way to delivery.
I also get gel mani every two weeks.  Also 100% safe according to doc and my nail genie.
I love this thread and literally read through everyone's questions and answers - keep em coming!
