It turns out that my LO had insect bites, not allergy rash. Still not gonna push the mangos since he made poo poo faces at it. I wonder, I thought berries were highly allergenic at this age? I have a lot of Beechnut foods that are for 6 months and they contain strawberry, aronia berry and raspberry!

We've feed Damien puréed bluberries, raspberries, and blackberries for a bit. He loves raspberry and blueberry but not isn't a fan of blackberry. No issues thus far except with raspberries, it's a bit tart for him initially but then he can't get enough.
Does it matter if it's gerber puree or just plain pineapple? We've trying to hold off on those for now, but I heard the gerbers give less of a reaction?
I'm not sure, but I would think there would be some heat that goes into the packaging process for store bought baby food. If not in the cooking, then in the canning process. That might break down some of the aspects that might be allergenic or acidic in fresh foods.

Dear fellow mom's, (please don't laugh) How much are your babies eating now? Levi's formula consumption has remained the same.,..6 6oz bottles. He also eats a total of about 4-6 oz of puree (split into 2-3 feedings). When I give him puree (spoon feed) he has the option of a few bits of fruit in the morning or vegetable in the evening to grab as finger food. So far he still prefers puree but will grab the finger food. Sometimes he tries it, maybe gets a bite or two, but mostly he touches it, doesn't like the texture and won't touch it. Finger food wise we've tried carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes, green beans, avacado, pear, watermelon and banana. So far, green beans and maybe a bit of carrot are about all he has eaten. He will just be turning 7 months this this week so I'm not particularly disheartened by any means but should I cut out purrees altogether and focus on finger food? I recently purchased a good bit of different purees. I'm thinking about feeding that out and moving to strictly finger foods. What about daycare? What do you send with your babies to eat there? I like the idea of BLW, but for some reason feel like if he doesn't get some puree he's not getting enough since his formula intake is the same as two months ago. Signed, Confused FTM

Savannah is such a pain with food! She really prefers food she can hold so at home we follow more of a BLW model, but I don't feel comfortable with that at daycare. I generally send a yogurt, puffs, and a teething biscuit for an 8 hour day on top of milk but she doesn't come closer to finishing it.
I honestly feel as though she barely eats anything because so much of it winds up in the high chair seat! It's so frustrating. I really want her to start eating more to take at least some demand off of me.
As for milk, she drinks 3-4 4oz bottles at daycare and then breast feeds 4-6 times a day on top of that. She's just a milk fiend. She's in the 97% for weight so I'm not super concerned TBH.
My pediatrician also make me feel better because she said that she's not concerned about her food intake until closer to 9 months.

When you say finger foods, do you mean that you cut everything into small pieces? You might have more luck if you make the solids a little bigger, like about the length of your index finger, to make them easier to grab and get into his mouth. We have been doing BLW all along, and S still has trouble with bite-sized pieces. I was really nervous about choking at first, so I started out with things like steamed zucchini or baked sweet potato, which were very soft and he could just kind of mash into his mouth. Regardless, I don't think you should worry at this point if he's not eating a ton of the solids. It sounds like he is getting plenty of food overall.
At daycare, S typically gets 3 3-4 oz bottles. I also send 4 foods to be divided between breakfast, lunch, and snack (e.g., egg and avocado for breakfast, sweet potato and cucumber for lunch). I pack 3-4 chunks of each thing. They usually write on his form that he eats most or all of his food, but I know that a lot of it ends up in the floor, high chair, clothes, etc. I'll be so happy when he's ready to eat th food they serve at daycare so that I don't have to pack his meals every night!
Damien drinks 2 8oz bottles and 2 6oz bottles per day. He is only doing puréed foods for the time being and I don't think we will switch to solids until maybe 9 months (that could change). He eats about 3-4 tablespoons per meal (3 meals a day so 9-12 tbsp). Breakfast is cereal and fruit; lunch is protein, fruit, and veggie; and dinner is protein or cereal, fruit, and veggie.
The finger foods I'm doing are finger sized strips for the most part, some rounds. I haven't introduced meat at all yet and the purees he gets now are different mixtures of fruits a d veggies. So I guess I really haven't introduced grains either since we skipped cereal. Ugh, fail! I'm going to have to regroup I think and meal plan better . It's extremely difficult to just feed him what we eat (or when we eat, although dinner time is getting better) due to my work schedule and DH being out of town a lot for work. We tend to be not terribly healthy sometimes just due to time restrictions.
So we still nurse 5-6 times a day but he eats 3 meals a day. We do a combo of purée and finger foods simply for convenience. If he has purée he can down at least 6oz whether it's a jar or pouch. An example of how much finger food? Well, he's a pig. Lol in the morning he will eat a whole egg with some cheese and may e a third of a banana. Or he'll have a scoop of chicken and green beans, cut up pasta, broccoli ECT. We honestly started out by just putting really yummy finger foods before introducing puree cause we always want him to prefer to feed himself. And if he has a purée meal we always offer puffs in between so he keeps the habit up.
Anyone have any good chicken recipes? I want to make my baby her meat purees the prepackaged meats kinda gross me out lol I have a magic bullet to make it.

We blend up chicken soup with white meat, carrots, pasta, and egg.
Last night I gave him some chicken marsala that I made for dinner.
Jerseygirl9090 I made pureed turkey and sweet potatoes this weekend! I did ground turkey in the oven and steamed my sweet potatoes. I had to add a little breast milk to make it smooth but he LOVES it! You could do the same with ground chicken.
Edited to add: I've also seen recipes for chicken, sweet potato and apples!
Has anyone else seen a big drop in the amount of food/formula your LO is consuming at all? For the last week or two Lillyana hasn't been finishing her 4 oz bottles. She's only been taking about 5-6 4 oz bottles a day. She isn't interested in her solids everyday either. We try to get her to eat but she's just too busy. We have been working hard on sleep training and schedules. Do you think that could be it?

I feel like we are way behind in the solids category. We started strong with purees (he LOVES them, still does). But then I thought we could go BLW style because he's so super grabby with the spoon. At 6 mos I gave him some banana in teeny chunks--gagged and puked. At 6.5 mos I did very thin scrambled egg--gagged and puked. So I finally read the BLW book and at 7 mos made very soft steamed carrot "fingers" and, guess what? Gagged and puked across the room. He did managed to chomp and possible swallow some before puking. Am I doing something wrong, or do I just have a LO with a super senstitive gag reflex? He very happily chomps on anything. I was really scared about choking at first, but I guess his gag reflex really does prevent that! But this is not fun. This is stressful. In any case, we are NOT trying finger foods again until 8 months. He tries to swallow everything. There is no "exploratory" phase for him.

We're pretty much in the same boat. He doesn't like solids, just purées. I tried some soft veggies and scrambled eggs and all of them were a fail. He didn't puke but he hated it and wouldn't eat anymore. He also won't feed himself. If left to his own devices, he just dumps it all on the floor.
Alyssa loves finger foods so I'm thinking of trying chicken in small pieces for her to pick up ever since i started finger foods she hates being spoon fed and grabs the spoon and gets food everywhere lol

Same boat- Savannah hates purees though. I have tried a couple finger foods that I feel comfortable with but that's it. My pediatrician said not to worry until she is 9 months and isn't interested in food. She is a boob monster which needs to end at some point though lol
Little Erin loves her formula and purees, but anything chunky, she gags and pukes it up. She is turning 8 months on the 5th so I was feeling worried she was falling behind but after reading some of what your LOs are doing, I shouldn't feel too bad. She likes her puffs but she hasn't gotten to the hand to mouth yet.

Have you guys tried teethingcrackers? It dissolves in there mouths and teaches them to bring food to their mouths since its larger. I also started by putting food on my finger and letting him grab my finger to get the food in his mouth. Eventually he started picking it up to play with then he ate it. I find the best soft food is sweet potato cause if you really cook the heck out of it, it mashed so easily even if they haven't gotten the hang of chewing yet. I am so proud of the eater Preston is. Last night he had fried ravioli and chicken marsala. Lol. Patience and practice

My little guy has been doing the same thing for the past couple of weeks, but he loves his solids. I have cut back a little bit on the amount of solids I give him and have seen a little bit of an increase. We are getting between 15-20 ounces in him a day. He has been sttn on and off during this time so I figure he is getting enough to fill him up at least. If he wakes I feed him, knowing that he hasn't been drinking quite as much. He did really good yesterday, and not too bad today. I feel like schedules help, but who knows.
Yes! Savannah loves teething biscuits! She also likes taking tiny bites of my food, she is getting better but mainly just plays with the food if I put it on her tray.
I also find that lightly toasted toast with butter is easy for her to hold and she likes... I just wish she showed more interest in the fruits and veggies! I need to get better about really boiling fruits & vegetables (BLW style) because she obviously does not like purees.

I do the finger thing with peanut butter, I'll try it with other things too. Hadn't crossed my mind to do that. I'll pick up some teething crackers too. Couldn't hurt! Thanks for the tips!
I forgot about puffs--maybe I'll try some so he can get used to the feeling of chunks in his mouth but then hopefully they dissolve before hitting the back of his throat. Teething crackers work the same?

We use these and they dissolve way faster than puffs. You can even break them up into small pieces for him to try.

I don't think so. She had her first two teeth break through on NYE but nothing since. Not showing strong signs either.

Ugh why must they out banana and apple in like everything? I'd rather them have more options with pear and peaches or apricot. Apples and bananas can make our LOs so constipated.

Yes! We use these too, they have sweet potato and banana flavor, carrots and blueberry and these pea and spinach! We get them at Kroger, I think Target has them too.. But wal mart doesn't have them
