Glucose test Thursday followed by regular ob appt. Except the obs were all booked so I'm seeing the nurse practitioner. Which might actually be good. Maybe she'll listen to my questions better than my obs do.
Regular appointment on Friday. Probably the last one with this OB since she's changing practices, so I'll need to talk to her about that.
@HGRich honestly I prefer when I have my appointments with the NPs. The ones at my office are so great and they have more time to spend with us, so I don't feel as rushed as when I meet with my OB. Hopefully your experience will be similar.
I am currently at the lab for my 3 hour glucose test. Fingers crossed I pass this one. I don't have a midwife appointment until the 13th of February but I have a 28 week scan scheduled for next week and childbirth classes start then too.
Then we're on to every other week. Whaaattt??? I'm kind of freaking out since I have made all the appointments up until a week before my due date.
I just have my normal monthly appointment with the midwife tomorrow morning. I will get the rhogam shot as well. And I actually have a list of questions this time as well. I don't think I have had any up until this point. But, now that things are getting closer I have some questions on labor and delivery "protocol" and how exactly they handle people not abiding by hospital protocol. haha. As well as just some general hospital questions and some specifics about water birth. DH will be able to come this time since he is working part-time right now. I am glad he can be at this one. Another person absorbing all the answers to my questions will be good. And this will be the first test of exactly how much I love my midwives. I am hoping they are supportive of my more "natural" views of childbirth. We will see.

I just had my 28 week ultrasound today. My little boy looked great! He is already weighing in at 3lbs and guesstimated at 15 inches long! I can't believe it
Normal appointment w OB tomorrow, but it's my first time seeing a DR at my new practice. Should just be a routine belly check, weight, and urine sample, but I plan on asking for a referral for a physical therapist to do some pelvic therapy for my backpain. I have my second adjustment w a chiro at 10 today and am trying to get in to see an acupuncturist tomorrow afternoon. I'm super desperate to get this under control. Last night was a true low point for me - my almost 2-year-old climbed up to the back of the couch and started reaching for a picture frame, I tried to jump up from the table where I was helping my oldest with homework and my back completely gave out on me. I ended up falling against the wall and yelling out loud in pain all while watching my two-year-old yank the picture off-the-wall where it promptly fell on his head. He was completely fine, it was a canvas print and he didn't even cry, but I felt utterly helpless. I need to get this back pain under control asap!
I see a couple people mentioning 28 week scans...is this common? My office does the anatomy scan at 20 weeks and I don't believe another one until something like 36 weeks. Just curious as a FTM.
@kitkat8387 I want to know too! I plan to ask at my appointment tomorrow. I feel smallish and I want to make sure she's still growing properly, but they may not do a scan from here on out. Don't know.
@HGRich and @kitkat8387 my office doesn't do anything other than the confirmation and the 20 week anatomy scan unless there's an issue suspected. Crazy to me!
@Dannylion24 it is crazy! From everything I've heard that's all that's normal at my practice. No growth scans or anything. Just dating and anatomy. But all the women my mother's age or older keep reminding me they got one and that was it! So I feel grateful to have had four which were medically necessary so far and one I paid for to find out gender. But I wouldn't mind seeing her one more time before the end!
I personally would probably decline any more scan for a "just because" reason. They are horribly inaccurate at guessing size of baby in the 3rd trimester. So, if they wanted one just for size I would definitely take it with a grain of salt. They can easily be off by 2 pounds towards the end. So, many women get scared about a "big baby" for no reason and end up with a perfectly average baby. After my baby measured totally fine at 23 weeks I am good to wait.

I always wondered what the late scan was for too? Because like @mrsstuessy said, late scans can be inaccurate on weight/growth. The only other reason I can think of is to make sure that the baby is head down, but I thought the OBs could feel that...haha! Am I crazy?!
One of my girlfriends had a scan at 36 weeks and thought she was having a 9+ pound baby based on the measurements - when he arrived (at a little past 41 weeks!) he was only 7 lbs 12 oz.
I don't know if I'm getting another scan or not yet. OB said that I could, but probably not necessary unless something comes up, and it *sounds* like insurance will cover one to check positioning. However, I think I'm also okay with waiting (I had mine at 8 and 20 weeks) and I also don't want to be stuck with the bill if the u/s isn't coded correctly or something.
This is a pretty easy read and informative. https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/01/11/high-birth-weight-predictions-are-often-inaccurate/ At a recent class I taught at a pregnancy center one of the ladies, who was 36 weeks pregnant, told me that she has just scheduled a c-section because her baby was measuring large on the 36 week ultrasound. It made me sad because she was really bummed out about it. 4 out of 5 people who are told they are having a large baby don't actually have a large baby. So, I really caution people to think very hard about getting ultrasounds close to your due date, without a real health concern.

I had a scan towards the end with ds just to check position. They are so big at that point that you can't even really tell what body part is on the screen.
I am having a 32 w ultrasound because my placenta implanted low in my uterus. I appreciate all of this information regarding birth weight because I am sure they will try and measure the baby while they are at it.
I had an appointment today and it seems like everything is doing okay.
I had a biophysical profile in my third trimester done at some point with my 3rd, but I don't remember getting a weight or size estimate exactly for the reasons @mrsstuessy detailed. I'd just like another ultrasound bc I'm still confused about the sex. The home blood test kit (sneak peek) I took at 10 weeks said boy, but the anatomy scan couldn't find a penis so they sided with girl, but when I went back two weeks later for better pics of the spine and to check on my placenta previa the tech couldn't tell one way or another. I'm thinking girl bc the tech was pretty sure and I heard that the blood test company is in a lawsuit right now for false accuracy claims, but driving myself crazy with whatifs and don't want to buy clothes or rule out a boy name
@Dannylion24 For someone to not be on Team Green and still not know the sex must be incredibly frustrating! Do you have any ultrasound places (private companies) you can go to in your area, pay $40-50 and they can determine the sex? I know there are several places near me that do that.
@KirstinH88 I need to check around since we just moved here, but I did have a private place near us in my old town. I def may have to just go bc I'm feeling nuts!
I double checked my OB office's "welcome packet" and it sounds like there is another one at 36 weeks, but it's just a quick bedside ultrasound to check baby's position. Not a growth ultrasound or anything like that. Which it sounds like might be fine since it's so inaccurate - I didn't realize that! I figure as long as they are measuring my uterus and it's on track (which it has been) there's no need to worry about growth.
Catching up a bit about weight/sizing ultrasounds... my SIL had her first baby in October. The day she delivered she was given an ultrasound where they said the baby was 8lbs and that same day she was born 9lbs 11oz and 22" long. My SIL delivered vaginally after 3 hours of pushing and ended up with a 4th degree tear because no one knew the baby would be so big. Just an example of how estimates can be wrong in both directions!
I would love to get another look at this babe, but our hospital only does the confirmation and anatomy scans as well. The pictures we got at the anatomy scan were not very good, could barely make out the baby. I've seen everyone's cute u/s pictures and just wish I had one. Maybe that's why I'm wanting another scan... anyways, I'm ok with not having another one. Thankful this baby has been healthy throughout the pregnancy.
My next check up appointment is in the morning. I asked the dr last time when I will be coming in every 2 weeks and she said at 36 weeks. I feel like this doesn't seem right? Maybe I misunderstood. When do you all start going every two weeks? I know every hospital is different.
@carpediem55 I always assumed you started going every two weeks around the beginning of the 3rd trimester and every week appts started around 36 weeks.. I haven't discussed this with my OB yet, but this is what I remember from when I was pregnant with DS.
@carpediem55 my doctor also starts every two week visits very late compared to everyone else, and I never start weekly visits. I think I go 32, 36, 38, 40 at this point. I thought it was strange that I didn't get as many appointments at the end as everyone else seems to.
I have my 1 hour glucose test in 15 minutes. Last pregnancy I had GD, so fx everything is OK this time! @HGRich I see the NP for almost all my appointments (although my OB says hi to me in the hallway, and we have small talk, so at least she knows who I am). She knew my issues with weaning DS at the beginning of this pregnancy, and has really helped me through a lot. I really enjoy seeing her.
I don't think my new OB starts seeing you every two weeks till 34 weeks and then it's every week at 37 so that seems late compared to other offices, but I'm honestly grateful bc I have to bring my two toddlers with me to the appointments which is always a little stressful. I believe internal exams start at 37 weeks with this practice as well, though I typically decline them until my due date.
My OB does monthly appointments until 30-32 weeks, then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, then weekly. I decline all of the internal exams until the last one before my due date (aside from the group b strep test).
I'm the only person I know whose growth scan was accurate, haha. They measured DS at 9 pounds, and when he was born a few days later he was 9lbs 6oz. I only needed a scan to check his position, but my OB doesn't have an US in office, so she has to send me to the lab for them and they always just check everything. Otherwise, I would have only gotten the dating/confirmation US and my AS.
I had an appt this week at 28. I now go at 30, 32, 34, 36 then weekly 37, 38, 39, 40 That's a lot of appts!
Same here, except at Christmas I got a week behind so technically I'm visiting at 31, 33, 35 then we'll see if they want to switch to every week after that or after week 37.
I have my glucose test and normal appointment today, and my doctor mentioned I might do another month and come back at 32 instead of 30. Then start the two week appointments.
What's the importance in allowing or declining internal exams?
@HGRich An internal exam before you're in labor really doesn't tell you anything, and there is a risk of infection, as well. Plenty of women walk around a few cm dilated for the last few weeks or longer, so knowing how dilated you are (or aren't) doesn't help predict when you'll go into labor. It can all change so quickly anyways. Plus, they're not especially comfortable.
@HGRich I do get the internal exams because I'm nosey and want to know what my body is doing. It's fun (or not fun!) to see if my contractions are (not) doing anything. With DS, I stayed at 3cm for a month with no progress.
