I went this morning for my sono and unfortunately 2 of my eggs stalled and haven't grown at all. Now I have 7 total but only 5 of good size. They may move my trigger back to the original day since some are 17 in size. Anyone had any late bloomers from day 8?? I would hate to do all this again..
yay @brela11 welcome to the SHOTS party. it's great to finally get started.
@jayceebabi thank you! i'm not sure about your question on the late bloomers... my clinic didn't really give me tons of info about the size of my follies or their thought process... which was annoying but it forced me to "let go" of control.
Hey ladies! I've been MIA with that work trip but I was lurking when I had a free 30 seconds lol. I've been excitedly following along with your updates and I'm so excited to see what the last part of this month has in store!
AFM I woke up yesterday at 245am, drove through an hour of snow storm and about 5 hours of thick fog (and then the rest of the way in regular fog lol) to get back to KC for my baseline/suppression appointment. They found a cyst in my left ovary, but apparently its not releasing a hormone so I got the OK to start the meds on tomorrow! I was slaphappy tired by the time I got to the appointment so I'm pretty sure I remember about 30% of what the nurse showed me about how to adminster the shots...tomorrow could be interesting. (Thank God for the pamphlets she gave me)
@lady_grey and @patricej55 wohoo great news on your retrievals and fertilization. What were your instructions to avoid OHSS?
I am home from ER, they got 21 eggs, holy cow! I was expecting only 12 per the last US. I heard the doc saying I got lots. He didn't even talk to me or my husband after, just mentioned in passing "lots"; btw he was not my regular RE but his colleague, which didn't sit too well with me as I didn't know anyone on the team and felt abandoned. Now I am terrified of OHSS. Most of them were on one ovary. My belly hurts a lot, especially when moving or laughing. Also have leg pains.
Also, they didn't give me any instructions on Gatorade and such. Nurse said no salty foods and regular amounts of water. This is the opposite I heard here and I am confused.
DH was very moody and edgy with me because he was upset about his "production". Given that I got many more eggs than expected, he probably feels like a failure. Good thing we stuck with ICSI otherwise I don't think there would have been enough "material" from him hehe.
@jayceebabi I think it depends on the protocol too. At my 2nd US they only saw 3 of decent size, then 6, then 12, and between trigger day and ER I got 9 more! What protocol are you on? I was on 150u Gonal, 75 Menopur, Femara and Ganirelix. But I triggered with a low dose of Novarel and 450u Gonal (which is weird, but it looks like it matured a lot of eggs in just one day).
Also, the weird part is that at my first US, the antral follicle count was only 11, I thought that was the max you could get but it seems not
@IfYouCanDreamIt So glad that you got one extra, good luck in the tww
I'm here sipping on my nutrition/protein shake and eating protein bars, despite the lack of instructions from the RE grrr (kind of annoyed)
@bestofjoy that is a fantastic number of eggs! Fingers crossed for an eggcellent fertilization report. Ha ha. As far as preventing OHSS, I'm not sure there's really anything you can do after retrieval. I know people on the internet talk about salty foods and protein rich foods, which would theoretically increase the oncotic pressure in your blood vessels and help you keep fluid IN your vessels and not let it leak out. This is voodoo if you ask me - because if you have OHSS the underlying process causing the leakiness has nothing to do with salt or protein - but probably won't hurt... Also, my clinical care team advised nothing of the sort. I think your RE checks you carefully leading up to retrieval and decides what trigger to let you do (lupron, lupron/hcg cotrigger vs. just HCG) based on your estrogen level (if >4000, higher risk for OHSS) and that helps prevent it.
I just got my period this morning, my beta test is still tomorrow but we are pretty devastated.

@bestofjoy the Dr had my DH come in and give a back up sample, just in case I have a lot of eggs to make sure there are no issues with supply amount lol. @Nikkilegare hugs I'm so sorry!
First shot down! I have slightly more than minor needle phobia so I wasn't for sure I was going to be able to do it --but it didn't hurt so I'm calling it a win.
@bestofjoy They didn't give me any instructions on OHSS. Everything I'm doing I've been reading from other forums on what other people did. Coconut water, Gatorade and soup. I've been weighing myself and I haven't gained a pound so I think that's good. I go in tomorrow to see my dr just to check.
@Nikkilegare I'm so sorry sending lots of hugs your way
@Nikkilegare I've been wondering how things have been going for you. Did you test this morning? I thought you weren't supposed to start while on progesterone? Sending lots of hugs your way. Looks like I'll be joining you for a FET soon. Infertility really effing sucks.
@lin&say I tested yesterday and it was negative... definitely felt off and felt like my period was coming... woke up this morning and it was there in full force I thought progesterone would prevent it from coming as well! I think for the FET I will want to take the progesterone shots. I was on crinone suppositories this time. I will still get blood work done tomorrow morning and then meet with my dr for a follow up on what to do next. Did you take a test this morning??
It's just so discouraging that we do ALL this stuff and it just isn't a sure thing.

Oh, so the Gatorade/protein/salty foods diet was more of a internet thing then. I still feel so sore everywhere inside and unable to lie flat, lots of bloating, nausea and back pain. I just want everything to end. I feel down today. No call with the fertilization report either today, dreading what's next. I am upset with my doc for several reasons, but most importantly because he was dishonest with me and led me on regarding the treatment (I asked for very low hormones and I ended up being overstimulated, and I'm sure he knew it during the monitoring), then promised to check on me after the ER/call me since he handed me over to a weekend team for ER and nada. How did I get from we are shooting for 4 eggs to 21?? I'm sorry, don't want to come across as ungrateful or insensitive, my case was a bit different for a couple of reasons, and what really bothers me is that I was misled then hung out to dry.
@Nikkilegare I am truly sorry, this process is so frustrating for so many reasons! But I'm sure you will have a great FET, I think a FET is better anyway since your body is healed.
@Nikkilegare Yep, been getting stark white tests. I spent all of yesterday napping and crying. And now that I wrote that about starting your period on progesterone, pretty sure I'm starting mine too. Fantastic. It's so devastating to go through this process, have everything look so good, then ultimately not have it work. Will you find out the results immediately at your appointment tomorrow?

Lin&say keeping my fingers and toes crossed for your beta tomorrow. Thinking of you.
bestofjoy I can understand your feelings towards your doc, it's so hard to go through all this and if you cannot trust your RE it sucks! In the past we did one IUI with a doc who just disappeared in the middle of the cycle leaving the insemination done by a total stranger when I didn't even feel the timing was right, which lead us to change clinics. On the upside you did get a great number of eggs and FET gives time for the body to heal before the transfer. Hope you get your fertilization report soon, fingers crossed for great numbers. Did you do ICSI?
Hopeful_mom I'm feeling OK, started to have the vivid dreams again LOL. We are so hopeful that this time there's a sticky bean in there but I'll hold off with POAS until the morning of the first beta. xo
Glad to hear of all the great reports lately though. I'm just starting, and though it's late in the month so this may not be relevant to many of you (probably I'll post in February IVF too) I thought I'd share my lame lesson learned last night (first night of shots for IVF#1): Check to make sure that the needle is securely on the syringe (long story follows but feel free to skip).
Somewhere in the shots training/instruction/videos I missed the part where you check to make sure that the needle is on securely. I just unwrapped the reconstitution needle and started in. In this case I was attempting to mix the Omnitrope, failed to check this, and lost a bit of the somewhat scarce diluent provided with it. I had an extra saline solution vial from the Menopur but didn't know if the one provided with the Omnitrope might be something specially formulated to hold that medication or anything - plus I didn't know for sure how much I'd lost. So I compared the vial with the mixed Omnitrope to the second solution vial that came with Omnitrope (for days 5-8), estimated it to be between 1/3-1/2 less fluid, gave myself a smaller but what I imagine to be a more concentrated shot, and emailed my IVF nurse. Still waiting to hear from her.
I admit I would have been way more freaked out had I lost some of the pricey, paid for out of pocket since not covered by insurance since it's being used off label medicine, but it sucks when things don't go as planned - especially when starting this process is so loaded anyway. But seriously don't know how I missed this. I'm a pilot (just as a hobby) for goodness' sake - we live and die by checklists and I like to think had that risk been brought to my attention I would have checked. Lesson learned.
Fortunately the Gonal-F and Menopur were more foolproof, but...stress. Ugh.

@artemis618 I'm sure it will be okay with meds! There seriously needs to be an instruction manual with everything we have to take each day! I make my DH double check everything I do!
I've been to the dr's office all morning. They were checking me for OHSS since I had so many eggs but everything appears to be good. Just got cbc blood work done and they checked the fluid in my ovaries and by my liver. I hope my blood work comes back clean. I also got our day 3 count and so far we have 16 embryos that made it. These next two days are going to be so LONG. Transfer is scheduled for Wednesday so I am taking the rest of the week off. My job is sooo stressful and I just don't want to risk anything after paying all of this money.
@patricej55 FX for continued good news for day 5 and I hope you enjoy your days off!
@artemis618 that made me giggle (bc I can see myself doing that), but I'm glad it wasn't too much of a fiasco! It also made me glad I'm only on Menopur for my morning shot lol!
@lin&say what happened today? My results were officially negative (as if I didn't know haha) but I have an appointment on Thursday at 9:30 am with my dr to discuss next steps. Nothing for Feb - they want my body to relax and get my ovaries back to normal.
I've been super annoyed, frustrated, and angry about everything but I just have to realize that in the grand scheme of things, a couple months doesn't matter. I still believe that this WILL happen.
Random vent: How much does it SUCK for everyone here when your close friends and family tell you they are pregnant?! UGH I want to cry.

@Nikkilegare keep your head up!! Im going through the circle of friends around me being pregnant but I just get some diaper changing practice in and keep it moving. Your blessing is coming and the child meant for you will come right when they are supposed to!
When did you ladies start to feel side effects from your shots? Right now I'm on 150 menopur in the morning and 225 follitism in the evenings, it's only day 2 for me, I'm not feeling anything but tired --which is likely not related lol. Just curious when you all started to feel more emotional or bloated or anything like that.
I'm officially out. I knew it was coming but still devastating to hear the finality of it. And to top it off, I had a dream last night that I was pregnant. Pretty cruel.
@Nikkilegare Ugh, I'm so sorry girl. We were so hopeful at the beginning and now this just really sucks. My dr wants me to take February off as well, so I'll be seeing you on the March FET board. Hopefully our bodies will finally get their acts together by then lol. I hear you on the pregnancy announcements. Earlier last year, I did a medicated cycle the same time as a friend (literally tested the same day), and she ended up pregnant and I didn't. This cycle, I did it at the same time as another friend taking clomid, and guess what...she's pregnant and I'm not.

Ugh.

Together Let Us Seek the Heights
I've been super annoyed, frustrated, and angry about everything but I just have to realize that in the grand scheme of things, a couple months doesn't matter. I still believe that this WILL happen.
Random vent: How much does it SUCK for everyone here when your close friends and family tell you they are pregnant?! UGH I want to cry.
okay okay enough of the negativity! sorry!!

Ill be drinking all the margaritas now...

@artemis618 I can't believe that happened to you on your first night of shots! Thanks for sharing the story though, I'm scheduled to (finally) start my meds tomorrow after a delay and will make sure to check those needles.

@JuliaGoolia719 I'm right with you girl. Wondering when my symptoms will kick in as I have been all sleepy too but no bloat yet. Day 4 of stims for me today. Had a monitoring appt this morning. So far 6 on left 8 on right all under 10. I go back Wednesday.
@artemis618 I screwed up my shots tonight too. Totally forgot the saline until the end. Whoops. All the steps and meds can be overwhelming.
@patricej55 I plan to take some time off too because why not. I hope you are able to relax and take it easy! Sending you good vibes!
