Weekly Symptoms - 1/16

Re: Weekly Symptoms - 1/16

  • The past few nights I've noticed a non-painful pins and needles feeling in both hips/buttcheeks when I lay down to go to sleep at night. It resolves eventually because I don't feel it during the night and in the morning it's fine. I am 16 weeks and starting to worry about how I'm going to feel around week 30 when I'm MUCH larger and baby is pressing on way more nerves and such. I'm going to bring it up with my doctor and might see a chiropractor, but has anyone else experienced anything similar?

  • @cssme13 I had that for a couple weeks too, basically between 11 and 13 weeks now. I'm 15 weeks now, and I only ever have a problem when I eat something that doesn't sit well. And this morning for some reason, but it isn't even that bad and I'm sure it will be a one day thing. It does get better

  • @mrscate88 it's for my sisters wedding! I lived in Carlsbad a lifetime ago, (during my first marriage) my sister came to visit and then moved out within a year. She loves North County. We are renting an adorable house 2 blocks from moonlight beach in Encinitas. So ready for some sunshine and sister time!
  • @mrscate88 We were just there for a few days vacay!  My family is all on the east coast and we're stationed up in central Cal for the military right now.  Loving living on this coast for a couple of years!  I had my fill of winters in the northeast, haha!

  • I'm freezing all the time! Same thing happened when I was pregnant with dd. Always cold when I'm usually hot. I'm super tired now and I'm having tons of pain in my left hand. Feels like arthritis in my left hand.
  • Possibly a dumb question, but I've had a headache since last night pretty much constantly. It's just enough to annoy me and make me not want to do anything but it isn't super painful. I haven't really done anything to fix it because it's not bothered me enough. That being said, is there a point at which I've had a headache too long and should call my doctor? I'm drinking and eating fine so I doubt that's the problem.

  • @kerils you can probably try Tylenol.  I've had a headache since yesterday, not terrible just annoying and constant.  If you're worried there is no harm in contacting your OB nurse line.
  • I posted this on another board but dr told me benedryl would help my headache. I finally took some the other day and it worked! It did knock me out for a couple hours but got rid of my headache until the next day. It was one of the really bad ones.
  •  I just felt a really weird sensation in my stomach.  It's as if I had a guitar string/elastic band inside of me and someone just strummed it hard.  My insides just went TWANGGGGGGG.  That's the only way I can think to describe it.  It was weird and kind of unpleasant.  I assume it's gas.
Most eloquently described gas pain I have ever read about. ;)
    Could be RLP.

  • @Leysin97 Thanks for the tip. I actually figured out what my problem was. I screwed up my shoulder, have a massive knot it in. DH has been working on getting it out and the headache is going away.

With my DS my OB recommended I take one Tylenol PM at bedtime when my headaches were too much to tolerate. I'm usually a 'suck it up until it goes away' type but these pregnancy headaches are no joke! One Tylenol PM would knock me out all night and I'd wake up feeling a bit groggy but the headache was gone!
  • Please forgive and excuse me as I am sure to sound so whiny right about now. Thank you in advance.

I have the worst cold I've had in a couple years! Like the kind of sickness where you can't move off the couch and hurts to have your eyes open sickness! I can't sleep in my bed because even with All the pillows I am still not elevated enough to prevent nausea, heartburn, and drainage from the sinuses. Needless to say I've been sleeping on the couch or recliner the past few nights. All this happening on top of regular pregnancy symptoms makes for one hot mess of a Momma!

I am grateful for my loving DH. When he can, he is taking great care of me. He works 3rd shift, so he's gone at night and has to sleep for a big chunk of time during the day.
  • @MamaRN13 I have generic unisom. Not the gel tabs or whatever they recommend for morning sickness. Without purposely comparing I think they might be the same ingredient. But I tried them and they didn't knock me out like the Benadryl. Less of the active ingredient? Idk

@OperaSingerMommy I'm walking around in  my robe and my toddler just informed me it's not morning and I look silly. Also I am so excited to leave the east coast for a week in San Diego and burritos I want all the carnitas
We have the best Mexican food here to say the least! It helps that I married into a big Mexican family and get the good stuff all the time. My husband's grandma can't speak English but she'll bring me burritos all the time, just touch my stomach and say, feed baby. I love it! Do you have family in SD or just coming for vacay?
@mrscate88 do you have any North County favorites?  We need recommendations!
One of my favorite spots is La Cocina Bar and Grill in Temecula (considered Riverside county but it's super close to north county SD). If you end up in the little town of Fallbrook in north county, Estrella's and Rosa's are both delicious Mexican food and low key environment. There's a place in Vista on E. Vista Way called California Mexican food, and they have the best cabeza burrito ever. Total hole in the wall shop. If you want fast food Mexican food, try Cortez in Bonsall or Robertitos in Fallbrook. And if you go to Oceanside, there is an awesome little restaurant right on the beach called Rockin Baja. Their Mexican food is very white-washed, but still delicious, and their salsas and fish and chips are amazing, and you can't beat the view!

Thanks so much!  So excited to try these.
  • Just got home from the emergency room. Had excruciating upper abdominal pain after lunch today, long story short I've developed a bunch of gallstones from pregnancy and one got stuck and then unstuck in the duct. It was instant relief when it unstuck so thankfully didn't have to get any meds, and they peeked at little one who looked fine and wiggly. Scary few hours and just need to sleep it off now! Really cute that my OB called on the way home and she was so mad the ED hadn't called her right away, she was like a possessive mama bear!

I'm so glad you're okay! I have terrible gallbladder attacks but can't have it removed until after baby, so I just have to limit grease and eat super tiny portions so it doesn't get inflamed. It is seriously pain that I consider equal to labor pains! So glad baby is okay.

ETA: equal or maybe worse than labor pain!
  • Yikes! Pregnant is hell on the gallbladder and kidneys. Happy you're feeling better and got to see the baby!

I have a really bad cold too, and it's excruciating. I actually developed a fever a few days ago to top it all off, and I've just been so sick, I am sick of being sick!

I hope you feel better soon. I feel your pain, and hopefully both our colds will start getting better sooner than later. Drink lots of fluids and rest up as much as possible.

How scary! So glad you're feeling better. This happened to my SIL when she was pregnant too, apparently it's rather common, which surprised me! Hopefully it doesn't happen again.
  • @mrscate88. I am one super freaked out FTM of labor pains are on par with gallstone pain.  I was naively hoping it wouldn't be that bad!

Oh I'm sorry to have spooked you! It's different pain, which probably makes no sense right now, but it will after labor. If it makes you feel any better, I would honestly rather have the labor pains, which are more like strong period cramps, than the sharp throbbing gallstone pain!
  • @Chamomile glad to hear all is okay and you're feeling better! That must have been scary!

@supermom83 I have a bit of fever too. Sorry to hear you're unwell too. It's the pits! FC we're both better really soon!

Benadryl  and unisom sleep gels are diphenhydramine HCI, and unisom is doxylamine succinate. Unisom works for sleeplessness and in conjunction with vitamin B6 (in your prenatal already) helps with morning sickness whereas diphenhydramine hci does not.

@supermom83 How long have you had the cold? Did the fever develop days after the cold started? It may be a secondary infection and antibia tics may be needed.

@theweevee it REALLY depends on the mother, her body and the labor. Some women say it is excruciating and others say it was no worse than period cramps.
  • Thanks for the love ladies! A bit sore and tired this morning but otherwise okay - just planning how to eat so I don't trigger this again hopefully. Glad to hear others find gallbladder attacks awful too because I was shocked how intense the pain was - I've had open chest surgery before with a chest tube and gone home the same day so I normally have a high pain threshold!  I appreciate the support so much <3 so happy to be part of this community.
  • @CarsonsMommy and @mrscate88.  Thanks... I'll be telling the nurse to bring me the epidural.

For what it's worth, I did end up getting the epidural after 8 hours of labor, and had a great experience all around (delivery and recovery).

Same experience, except the c section thing. But labor was great, got to take naps once I stopped fighting the epidural

@kat0607 and @nktrodden826 I feel the same way

@Chamomile your struggle is real. I haven't had gallstones, but if they're similar to kidney stones, I'll be asking for the epidural immediately as well. Glad you're feeling better.

Almost 15 weeks here, and other than feeling gross, I'm doing fine, I have noticed that I've developed dandruff and an itchy scalp, which wasn't a problem before pregnancy. I've used head and shoulders everyday with no improvement. My hair is really dark and the flakes make me feel dirty,

Anyone else have this problem or have some tips?

*edit, half of the post was someone initially deleted.
  • @Bostonlady I've never used head and shoulders and don't know what the active ingredient is but I would recommend tea tree oil or a tea tree oil based shampoo if you don't have time for the oil treatment.
  • @Bostonlady I've got the same problem since I became pregnant. Head and shoulders isn't doing much for me. I try and wash my hair every 2-3 days and NOT itch as the hot water aggravates it. It seems a bit better but still touch and go.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • @Bostonlady Hello. I do have a couple tips for you! I currently hold a cosmetology license and these are my top 3 tips for this

    1. Sometimes Head and Shoulders does the opposite of its job. Especially if you're not conditioning your hair. The shampoo can be too harsh for some people's hair and scalp, causing more flakes :/ also try to not wash your hair every day as that can cause dandruff as well.

    2. Like pp's said, tea tree oil based shampoos are wonderful for helping with dandruff. It is a natural antiseptic, so it helps. From personal experience, a salon brand is WAY more helpful than store-bought. It is more cocentrated when purchased from a salon.

    3. The thing that has improved my dry scalp the most is using a good, salon purchased, condtioning treatment. I do it
about 1-2x a week and have seen a major improvement. You massage it into your scalp and hair in the shower and let it sit for about 5 minutes (this is the quick version) and rinse REALLY well to avoid greasy hair.

I hope you find some relief soon!
  • I can't remember who posted this or where it was posted, but hopefully they find it here. Someone was asking about a lopsided bump. Last night my baby must have shifted to the right and probably put his butt up in the air, because my bump went lopsided for a couple minutes last night. It went back to normal later. Anyways, just wanted to hopefully reassure you that it happens. It didn't last very long, but everything seems right as rain this morning. It was actually pretty funny and cute.

  • @Chamomile gallstones sound like a nightmare. Hang in there, lady.

Sciatic nerve pain is awful. I don't know how I am going to survive as the baby gets bigger. It is so bad already. Ugh.
  • @oheliza44 omg. It is unreal. When they broke my water in labor her head came down on my sciatic nerve and I still have flashbacks about that specific pain. Hang in there...sciatic pain makes grown men cry. Someone posted earlier about stretches that help!
