I don't like Justin Timberlake. I've never liked his voice that much and I don't think he's that funny. I like him as a person - I think he seems like a really nice, humble guy, but I just don't like him otherwise. There are maybe two of his songs that I kind of like (and some *NSYNC).
Don't take me too seriously but I wanted to hit the Report button for this! I can't believe it!
I am literally OBSESSED with Justin so I would definitely say that is an unpopular opinion. My husband even knows JT is my first love I've seen him multiple times on each tour he has done. Although I haven't ever admitted this before, but I don't quite enjoy his movies. Friends with Benefits I LOOVED and his cartoon ones, but the others just weren't the kind of movies I would typically watch
I hate that people assume everyone gets the flu shot and freaks out if you refuse it.
It doesn't protect against every strand of the virus and everyone I know that gets one ends up getting the flu. I hardly ever get sick and I've never had the flu, so I don't see the need. If I get sick, I'll deal with it.
I didn't get one when I was pregnant with DD, I didn't let her get one and I refused it this year too.
ps. I am not anti vaccine. Just flu shot specifically.
As a nurse I have to get the flu shot no matter what. But I also give out the flu shot as a 2nd job during flu season and I strongly believe in it. What I have learned though is that for healthy people who have never had the flu, its probably ok not to get it. Once you do get the flu you will really want to get it. I also think when you are pregnant you should consider it as well but don't think it should be forced on anyone.
You are correct that it doesn't protect against every strand, and they pretty much make a prediction about what strand will affect us the next year. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I had the flu my senior year of high school but after that I had the flu shot every year because of nursing school and I have not had the flu ever since.
Also, not everyone gets the flu after getting the shot. It does not stop people from getting severe colds or bronchitis which some people may interpret as getting the flu.
Basically, as an advocate for the flu shot, what I am trying to say is. its okay to not get it but I hope you keep an open mind about getting it in the future because it does work!

My unpopular opinion makes people hate me but... il share it anyway I'm really against fake foods, junk food, gmo's, the medical system etc. "I understand the medical system is great " but dude why does any pregnant woman need to drink a glucola drink with a bunch of chemicals in it?!? I just think it's evil to mess with nature, it's not our job to do so.
Food babe is my idol, thank God she has a baby now she can probably share some stuff!
please don't hate me, we can still be friends lol
You are just picking and choosing parts of my post that's not fair.

Are you saying it's evil to get tested for gestational diabetes?
Who am I kidding, I doubt you're interested in educating yourself, but for anyone else who might read your post and be tempted to visit her blog: Just don't.
@AdaByron that article was great! I've never heard of the food babe and generally feel putting information on how to eat healthier instead of fast food 5 days a week is a good thing. But according to the article you posted this blogger just sounds like misinformed bad news.

Ok just a few things: 1. Testing for gestational diabetes saves lives and prevents significant complications 2. Water is a chemical 3. You are really against the medical system are you? Let me know your thoughts when a family member gets cancer 4. Do you live in a house or other structure that was built by humans? Yes? Oh you messed with nature 5. Food Babe is an idiot who takes small nuggets of partial truth and twists them to appear catastrophic. Her method works because there are so many small minded individuals walking around that believe a blogger with a web address is an authority on scientific issues instead of actual scientists
I hate that people assume everyone gets the flu shot and freaks out if you refuse it.

I'm pretty sure the bolded statement is not accurate.
We're talking about actual influenza. Not the "stomach flu." It's quite dangerous, and not something you'll easily "deal with," especially if you are pregnant, or a child. I don't know a single person who has had the flu in the last several years. Probably because we all get flu shots.
I don't get the shot but I do agree with @AdaByron for the most part. There are some huge misconceptions when it comes to the difference between actual influenza (the flu) and gastroenteritis (the stomach or 24 hr flu) What most people get, generally in the winter, is the stomach flu. Actual influenza is more like a really bad cold accompanied by a fever and muscle pains that can lead to pneumonia and a whole host of other problems. The stomach flu is accompanied by nausea and vomiting, not influenza. (Although children might experience it)
The only downside to the shot is that influenza is a virus that evolves very quickly so the shot won't protect you forever. It's usually for a previous strain which is why it's important to get it every year so that your body can continue to develop the antibodies to fight off the virus.
With all that said, I think I just talked myself into getting the shot from now on LOL!
@crzyforbabies- No that wasn't me but that looked amazing!! I seriously need to go buy the rainbow chip frosting soon and stock up for sweet cravings, which I rarely get.
Lurking. I just got a bottle of "that glucola stuff" this morning for my next appointmemt and its sitting in my fridge. You bet I'm going to drink it. Its not the most pleasant but if I can at least rule out GD, great. Or if I end up with GD, then I can take action to change things to reduce the risk of any complications because my health and this baby health is more important than anything else to me.
There is a reason why insurance companies list glucose testing during pregnancies as preventive.
Hahah I love how everyone's bashing my opinion. What I said was taken way out of context. Let me clarify, my father is a doctor and an eye specialist and I really do love what he does and he's done everything possible to educate me and take care of me and in truly blessed to have him around. I myself did my pre medical but I switched because I don't agree with all of modern medicine. That's just my opinion. I have been able to deal with my acne, my allergies and other issues a whole lot better by changing my lifestyle. This is my personal experience.
I will test myself for diabetes, but I can do that with a prick test my doctor said it's totally fine. I really don't want to be drinking food dyes and more synthetic chemicals I think we have enough exposure to them already. There is no need to swallow down more when there is an alternative. i just don't believe in blindly following the medical system, sorry to offend you guys. @mrscate88
I have a cousin who is battling cancer and the first thing they've told her to do is change her diet and not eat processed foods. My grandfather who was like a father to me died of cancer no need for insensitive comments @abmommy15
One article saying she's stupid doesn't prove anything to me, the western diet has caused more harm than good to people as compared to people where real food is given priority. I really don't see why anyone has to be so rigid about appreciating real food and nature.
Everyone knows the difference between synthetic chemicals and natural chemicals @abmommy15
Who am I kidding, I doubt you're interested in educating yourself, but for anyone else who might read your post and be tempted to visit her blog: Just don't.
Assuming I wouldn't be interested is like me assuming you are an unhealthy person. Easy on the arrogance and ignorance.
Yes I have read that article I never said she's a god. But she does make my life much easier. She has great ideas and I appreciate what she does. I love her recipes and she has a great grocery list check list aswell. I don't follow everything she says to the tee and that's where your own brain comes in, right?:) also, she looks pretty radiant to me, you don't look that great on an oreos diet:)
just ask yourself, why does food need a bunch of synthetic chemicals in it? Especially since most of them are banned everywhere else in the world, Americans aren't the healthiest people in the world you know. Maybe a little educating for both you and me would help.

No, I'm saying it's stupid not to know about better alternatives
So, @zara4k , in summary, you are smarter than the guidelines committee of the ACOG that, based on peer reviewed literature, has determined that all pregnant women should get tested for GD?! Its been a long day. Also, some diet change was the first thing your cousin was advised to do?! I don't have the energy to get into the details of all the levels on which I disagree with you. Just. No.

I really never begged Anyone to agree with me, I just asked a question about glucola, everyone else seems to be defending their cause for some reason. i will test my blood sugar just not by drinking a bunch of crap, I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense to you. Its not some diet change, it's a major part of her recovery along with radiotherapy and eating lemons every hour(real lemons btw) but when that radio therapy is done guess what she's been strictly told to do? Eat clean. And guess what she has to do before radiotherapy for it to be successful? Eat clean. Why doesn't that make sense to you?

Anyone with half a brain knows the difference between synthetic chemicals and natural chemicals @abmommy15
Of all the comments you received here, mine was the insensitive one? @zara4k That's pretty funny. For the record, I was genuinely eating ice cream today when I typed that (it wasn't a joke). I absolutely live by the 80/20 rule and eat clean most of the time, BUT that is nobody's business or place to criticize or question. I have absolutely no problem with the glucose test because a few ounces of food coloring and sugar is not going to kill anyone, ever. And it helps me catch or prevent a serious health condition. So it's worth that little sacrifice to me. Lastly, I have many relatives and friends battling cancer. In fact, I think most people do. Making a joke about eating some ice cream is not insensitive toward cancer patients, regardless of the seriousness of consuming too many processed foods.
@mrscate88 what I wrote in response to you was above your name and right next to the paragraph, it wasn't for you, you never mentioned cancer ! That's why I had huge gaps between the paragraphs
I never asked anyone to change their diets, why is everyone getting so sensitive? I just personally think food dyes vs just pricking my finger is a better option for my baby, and I'm not asking for support it's my personal choice. if I had no other alternative I'd probably have to down that drink too, but some people in other countries just drink orange juice aswell. I like the idea of being careful and knowing my options. Too many people getting allergies and diseases all around me, it's worth my time to pay more attention to these things. It's my personal choice, and it's better for the environment. I don't see why GD testing needs a bunch of junk in it, it can easily be avoided. i never said you ladies are crazy for drinking it and don't drink it, I said I don't agree with the medical system making us drink glucola. Please everyone stop taking this as a personal attack, seriously !!
@zara4k I try to avoid overly processed foods with preservatives as much as possible but it's not evil.
do you... vaccinate your kids?
This will be my first child (iA) I plan to vaccinate but not all vaccine and I plan to space them out not all of them within two years. i think adding things to food that cause potential allergies and conditions is evil. Food should be healing and enjoyable, not potential health hazards. But that's why I posted my opinion in unpopular opinions because well I know most won't agree with me and I never expected them to!
Cripes, why did we have to open the vaccines issue. #1, science is clear. They work. #2, the vast majority of people get and support them. #3 constantly giving voice to vocal *minorities on issues like vaccines or climate change or whatever other tin foil hat nonsense just legitimizes their BS.
Can we just not? Please?
I am confident this is not an UO but that there will be people with actual UOs on this that actively fight me on it, and make it look like my opinion is not the norm. Ah well, happy Thursday.
@Zara4k I'm glad you at least showed up ready to argue your opinion. So what you're saying is, you are well educated with a science background, and still, somehow, Food Babe is your "idol."
...does not compute.
I'm cool with clean eating. I agree with you in a lot of ways there. But recognize that healthy organic foods are not easily accessible to a lot of people. And the GTT options are not options for everyone.
And please, PLEASE stop giving Food Babe any more credibility or page clicks. She is a fear monger, with no science behind her claims, and some of the stuff she writes is just idiotic. You should know better.
I forgot to add the date to this thread from last week. I see that a new one hasn't been started but hate to derail the lively discussion over here. Hopefully no objections to starting a new weekly one?
I don't know who this food babe person is, so maybe that's a reason I'm not finding what Zara4k is saying about processed foods to be too out there? I completely agree that as a society, we eat too many processed foods, food dyes and uneeded added chemicals in our food. I follow the "100 days of real food" blog and try as much as I can to eat as little processed food as possible, though obviously Taco Bell is still in my life. Lol and holy moly, that lady's daily posts about her kids school lunches puts my packed lunches to shame!
When I go to the grocery store, I buy only organic for all my fruit, veggies and meats....but I also eat Oreos when the mood hits. It's a balancing act. If one can afford to buy all organic then power to them! But a lot of people can't afford it, which is a whole other vent about how healthier food for us is out of reach for a huge segment of the population and how processed foods are cheaper and more readily available.
I also like the idea of a natural approach to health and healing when one is generally healthy and is trying to prevent illness, though if one gets sick, one should go to the doctor and take their medicine because modern medicine is a miracle and keeps us alive. One can not beat cancer with an organic diet no matter how much we would love to think we could. Yes, and organic diet HELPS, but it can't be used exclusively in fighting already exsisting diseases. Eating a balanced meal is not going to cure TB or Polio....so yes, vaccinate yourself and your kids, eat healthy foods and exercise to keep yourself healthy. It doesn't need to be an all or nothing extreme.
Now I'm curious to see what this food babe person is saying, though I could probably already guess from what you ladies have posted about her!
@supermom83 Agree. You can eat better and do better for your lifestyle and rely on modern medicine when you need it. Balance It always drives me crazy when just because you have one opinion or lifestyle choice you get thrown all the way into the extreme. I'm a vegan who eats very few processed foods, but I'll also vaccinate my kids. I don't take Tylenol for a headache, but of course I took antibiotics when I had UTI's.
