  • @mskeenan well I got discharged yesterday only to find out i have mrsa oh and i have a wound vac again ugh. So I'm just upset about the whole thing but glad to be home

  • @ultratomato unreal! Sending you quick healing vibes!

So I just got another bill in for DH's sperm storage. It's $200 every 6 months. The odds of us having another child are very slim since I have no embryos left (would have to re-retrieve) & my eggs suck. But if we dispose of his sperm, were 110% done because we'll never get that back (due to having micro tese surgery to retrieve his sperm initially). I'm just having a difficult time pulling the plug & letting go. DH is super content with just having 1 child together since in reality we do have 2 children. What would you do? Save & keep paying for "what if" or save the money and dispose?

@ZoeFer - glad you got home and that Lara was great throughout the whole trip!
@capps42613 - gosh that's a hard choice! I can only imagine having to make that choice right now. It's great that your DH is supportive either way.

  • @ultratomato glad you are home but so sorry to hear . I hope you recover soon !! I didn't even have all of that going on and it was so rough but it'll get better ! Hang in there !!

@zoefer wow traveling for over 24 hours !! Lara is a champ ! And so are you for braving that . I'm sorry it was chaos but glad y'all have returned safe and sound !

@capps42613 ah that is SUCH a hard decision . I would be the same way as you. I personally would just go ahead and pay the storage fee . I know it's a lot for something you think you will never use but you just never know . People change their minds when it comes to children sometimes and I would want to have that in the event that circumstances changed . That's just me , though !

You're a trooper @ultratomato. Glad you are home, but boy do you get it all.
    Cuddle those girls!!

Yay for Lara and her mummy @zoefer! Glad the journey went well.

Wow thats a though decision to make @capps42613. That's the trouble with infertility, we don't get to choose how many children we get or when to stop.
Ive tried explaining this to others, but if you just can get babies, they just don't understand.
Its a huge amount to pay, yet so definite if you don't...
Can you postpone it? Like do you have the funds to pay and see how you feel in 6 months?
Cason is still so little, maybe in 6 months it's easier to know what you want?
I would also try to look at it without emotion: financially can you afford 3?
How soon so you need to decide? Do write on here if it helps making a decision, sometimes saying it off to completely strangers helps.

AFM: Pia had her vaccines today. She was such a trooper. She cried before, during and after. Like a proper big girl. She screamed her head off during, and I thought I had heard her scream...but she can louder. She looked at me with those big blue eyes as if I betrayed her. My heart broke a little.
She fell asleep as soon as I put her in the stroller, so hope she's not to angry with me once she wakes

And you've got two girls to comfort @ultratomato. Don't envy you there.
Hope they are like my nieces, they hardly gave a kick.

Here we start at 6-9 weeks @joyzie77 They get two injections.
    1) DTaP, Polio, Hep B and Hib
    2) Pneu (think it's PCV13)

Next month Pia gets only number 1, then with 4 months she gets both again and then both again with 11 months.
With 14 months some new ones and then a break until she's 4 years old

  • Thanks for the advice girls. I think I will pay it again and reevaluate since there is no undo button lol.

Cason received his 1st Hep B vaccine in the hospital and then had his 2nd Hep B yesterday at 6 weeks. At 9 weeks he will get the Dtap combo + Rota vaccine.

  • I think Pia had hers too at the hospital. I missed out on a few hours, but according to paper work she had hep B.
She has a little fever, is fuzzy when awake, but is almost asleep again.
Not even bothering trying to lay her in bed. Just on her pillow next to me on the sofa.
Tomorrow we'll have a pj's day, and wait for all the online shopping I did.

I feel that you doing good by postponing the decision @capps42613. You'll know by then. And if not, flip a coin! Not to let the coin decide, but at the moment it's up in the air you'll be hoping for what you really want.

Question: I have a friend that thought her little girl signing. So they could (and it actually works) communicate before she could talk.
I just bought the book, and am planning on giving it a try.
Any others on here that will teach their little one to sign?

  • @tvh1982 I'm going to try to use some basic signs with Vince . I am a speech/language therapist and I use sign with a lot of my kiddos at work that have developmental delays so I'm already familiar with them . I have seen kids be quite successful using them . :) it's so cute seeing them sign "more " when they want more of something !!

  • oghh the screams during the shots were really hard to takefor me, my H held her during the shots and I couldnt even look at her. @tvh1982 good job to you and little Pia fir handling this strongly. But Lara fell asleep right ahead after the shots, i dont think she remembered the pain at all. but at around 5-6 hours later, she started to get really fussy but didnot have high temp. a very small dose of tylenol helped her to go back to sleep and she was all right when she woke up.
i have never heard about sign language for babies, could you ladies suggest a book? @mskeenan @tvh1982
  • I didn't get to hold Pia. She was laying on this table they examined her on and got told to hold her hands and talk to her.
She was already upset as she was mid-bottle and half naked.
Was glad they worked fast between injections so I could pick her up and smother her with love @zoefer!
Pia slept well. Had a little fever last night, but it didn't affect her nightsleep.
Shes actually sleeping in her crib right now...but got woken by the cat meowing as the cat came to look for me sitting in the nursery. Grrrr, we'll start all over!

Its lovely to see it work @mskeenan.
My friend posted a video of her little girl where her daddy sprays water in her face, she looks shocked, then smiles and then signs 'again'. So he does. And she giggles and signs again :)
    It was very cute.

I bought the following book @zoefer as that is the one my friend uses. It's ASL, so definitely works for most of you lovely ladies on here. I maybe should have bought the Dutch signing, but I'm not fond of readying in Dutch.
Worse of all, I have a stepsister that is deaf, so I could have known signing if she was in my life.

I know it seems ridiculous since we have all dealt with infertility but I'm also not ready to get pregnant again and I know that you can still get pregnant in the pill. I'm thinking of just going with the pill but I was curious about what you ladies were leaning towards if etc all.

  • @griffin5413 I'm not going to use any form of BC . My midwife told me that if I would be upset if I got pregnant now I should be taking measures for it not to happen even with my history and the fact that I'm breastfeeding . If i got pregnant in this next year  honestly it wouldn't at all be ideal but it would be an absolute miracle and I would be happy about it . Not at all holding out for that though . My RE told me my chances were next to nothing without help .

If i had experienced better with taking the pill I may have considered that but it's always messed with me too much . I had worse side effects with BC than I did with fertility meds which makes no sense !

Not ridiculous at all. I actually got asked by my midwife the day after I got home from the hospital.
I was like...uhm...haven't thought about it and well pregnancy doesn't come easy.
She laughed and said she had plenty of women pregnant with 'oops, but I've got PCOS!'
    I thought...jupp...but they have DH's! ;)

I will take the same pill as I did before. Only because it worked fine for the 16 years I've been taking it, and it balances my hormones.
I just hope they have the same brand here in NL.
I haven't prioritised it yet to go and buy it.

  • I'm def not doing birth control I don't think we will have time to do anything but if I get pregnant then it will be great. It I'm not trying to prevent it
  • Hi ladies. I fell off the face of the earth it seems since having Aiden. It's been a whirlwind of emotions and I feel like I've been in a zombie like state all week. I can't believe a week already went by. It's been quite an adjustment being at home and recovering from the c section. I'm doing much better though and taking it day by day.

Question for you ladies - did anyone try to exclusively breastfeed? If so, can you share your schedules, tips, techniques, etc? I don't think he's getting enough from me directly because he gets fussy quickly and I feel like I have to nurse again so soon. Sometimes he just falls asleep with my boob in his mouth after a while so I'm starting to think he's using me as a pacifier. We introduced a paci to him yesterday but he doesn't keep it in consistently and then screams when it falls out. Nights are the worst as he can scream for hours at a time. Yesterday we switched up our routine and instead of me waking him up to nurse every 2-3 hours, I just pumped for a little bit each hour or so, enough to produce about 2 oz total for him for a feeding and my husband fed him while I went back to sleep. I did it a few times throughout the night and he slept well for 2-3 hours at a time. But I'm not sure this is the best option either. Pretty much any wisdom or tips you ladies can share to get through these first few weeks would be great!

  • @tulips29 my baby wasn't getting enough food with just breast milk so my docs told me to supplement with formula. So now i do both and she's so much happier. Not saying you should do the same but it's worked for us!
  • My husband pretty much is my birth control lol

@Tulips29 yeah, same here as @Drove2u. I assume Aiden saw the pediatrician since leaving the hospital. The doc would've told you if you should consider supplementing if he lost too much weight. My son went down 12oz in 5 days so I had to supplement. I'm just not a good enough supplier :|  I believe our BF troopers here are @mskeenan, @Griffin5413, & @ultratomato. Sorry if I missed anyone.

  • @Tulips29 I BF in the hospital one baby latched on great while the other not so much. They told me that they had both lost too much and needed formula to supplement. When I got home I kept BF and then decided to pump so I could see how much I was producing for them. And then the csection infection happened and well I'm on antibiotics and was in hospital for four days and just dried up and gave up. Would of loved to continue but it was a lot my body and my mental state since trying to feed two and then pump. Good luck you may or may not have to supplement.
  • @Tulips29 - I am still BF but I also supplement bc dr told me I had to and it is simpler sometimes to give a bottle. They do digest breastmilk quicker than formula so the fact that he is getting hungry quicker is pretty normal. I've started primarily pumping so I know how much I am giving Eli and I try to pump every time he feeds. At night I just give formula bc it is easier and he stays full longer.

From what ive heard if u are only BF pump every time they feed. Just keep at it and it gets easier!

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies. Yea, they told me at the hospital he lost 10% of his weight and to supplement with formula. I did it for 2 days but then the pediatrician said he's fine and he'll gain the weight back so I didn't need to supplement. We're going again on Monday so will see what she says this time. I'm hoping BF will get easier too as I pump after he eats. Sometimes I don't get much at all and I start feeling discouraged.

I don't BF @tulips29, but I know not to get discouraged when you pump after a feed and you don't get much. It could mean that Aiden emptied your breast.
Do you offer both breast? The second breast should, hopefully, give you more when pumping.
I wouldn't wake him, he'll wake when hungry, but do try to pump to keep you going, but as he's little don't let him go past 4 hours.
Definitely pump in between to keep it going, if you manage. (I got told at night I could skip it as mummy needed sleep...but you feel what you manage)

If Aiden is awake when being awake he gets enough...when you hardly get him to wake up, being a bit lifeless, then he is not getting enough. And trust me, the latter is not: maybe he isn't getting enough ... it's a 'you know 100% sure he isn't'. So if you still feeling as a 'maybe' Aiden is doing fine.

My friend used the following to get milk supply going:

Hope any of the above helps. You are a trooper!

@capps42613 when I first started pumping I was getting 3-4oz then I noticed I was barely getting 2oz total. I tried the lactation cookie but it didn't increase so I just decided that I'd be done once she was a month old.
Ladies my first day back at work was busy and non stop that I barely had a moment to check on baby Leigh. She did good not seeing me for all those hours but when I got home I was so exhausted that I fell asleep playing with her :(. I have to admit it was nice to have an adult conversation but I missed our usual time together.

  • @Jerseygirl856 I realized some people are sadly just not milk machines lol. Whereas my friend is a super pumper and her average is 5oz/pump. I gave him his last BM bottle today. I'm waving the white flag lol. Ugh- not looking forward to going back to reality at the end of next month.

  • I'm not sure when I will stop pumping and BF. It is kind of discouraging when I work so hard for the milk and he stays full longer on formula. I may be waving the white flag sooner than I had originally thought
