Thanks ladies. After 8 hours in the ER we were finally discharged. There are two places where the placenta has separated from the uterine wall abd that was what caused the bleeding. I'm now on pelvic rest, which will be tough since DD is only 17 mos old. My in laws going to drive down this weekend to stay with us for a few days, and if needed, my mom said she'd fly out and stay indefinitely. If the bleeding stops, we will likely be fine. If it doesn't, they said there really isn't much they can do, since I'm only 16w4d. I've been seeing a midwife (who is super awesome and stayed with us while we were in the ER!), but since I'm now considered high risk, I'll have to switch to a OB.

The bright side of this very long day, is this sonogram picture of my smiling baby. The ER nurse practitioner actually texted it to me.
So happy for you!!!!!! Good stuff!!!!!! Follow doctor's orders and relax. Xoxo
  • FXed to infinity for you that that placenta of yours stays put until that smiling baby is birthed at term! T&Ps for you with your DD; I have an almost 19-month old DS at home and I couldn't imagine being on bed rest. Glad to hear your mom can come and help! What a blessing!

I know exactly what you are feeling, went through this 2 weeks ago. Didn't really get answers except that I have a low lying placenta and I believe I overdid it. I am on pelvic rest and pretty much laid around for 1.5 weeks. Prayers everything is okay. Please keep us updated.
How are you doing now? Did you have any additional bleeding?

During the ultrasound, the tech said I had a low lying placenta, and said that can cause bleeding until the uterus stretches out a little more. When the ER doc read the report, that was not noted, only that it was posterior. It makes me more curious. I've also had a super nasty cold for about two weeks, and for the last few days is settled into an extremely violent cough. My midwife suggested that may have caused the bleeding, but there is really no way to know for sure. Hopefully we can get in with an OB on Monday and get some things cleared up.

For now, DH had been awesome. I'd seriously be a mess without him.

  • @shmarpler I'm glad you are able to be home and have your mom helping you at least. I'm sorry things are still up in the air but praying the bleeding stops for you.

    That US pic is amazing!
  • Yes, it stopped after about an hr the bright red turned to brown then less and less over maybe 5 days total to none. They didnt see any source of bleeding, no tears, no abruption so they really could only tell me I had a low lying placenta and send me home with miscarriage paperwork. I was an absolute wreck so I understand. Please follow orders as much as possible. I did Not have pain at all with my bleeding, have you experienced any pain or cramps?
  • I feel like this experience will make me scared the rest of this pregnancy. I cant go to grocery store without mt husband because I cant lift my 38 lb ds into the cart. I am counting the days until this baby is viable, that sounds terrible but it is so scary being just weeks away before they say they can "save your baby". I dont know if I did too much googling or what (dont recommend) but im scared the bleeding could cause my water to break. Ugh! Prayers to you!
  • @Mport90, no cramping the first day, just a little blood. I called my midwife, and she offered several courses of action, but I chose to stay home, since the bleeding had stopped. I had been really sick,  coughing so hard that I threw up for about 20 min.  We were thinking that since the cervix is highly vascular, maybe the coughing had ruptured a blood vessel. I didn't have any more blood until the next morning, but by then I was also having light cramping. I had a previous, recent loss, so PGAL brain took over and I kind of panicked.

The ER doc apologized several times about treatment being different at 20-22 weeks because of viability, but yeah. It's hard to think about, especially after seeing that tiny, but perfectly formed baby on the sonogram.

    How far along are you?

  • @shmarpler I'm so glad to see your update and it seems the OB is positive/optimistic, which is always great
  • I'm glad things turned out ok I've been thinking of you.
  • Praying that rest helps stop the bleeding! What a cute u/s pic. I love it!
  • Thanks, ladies! It is also helpful that baby's movements are more noticeable and consistent. Those creepy little tickles are nice when I start to worry.
