With their first child, my brother and his wife went to Wal-Mart and bought a pregnancy test, she took it in the bathroom, and then they posted a picture of it on FB while still in Wal-Mart.
I was both pissed that he wouldn't have shared it with me at least in a phone call and appalled at, well, that.

If I could afford it, I'd have my hair, makeup and nails done all the time. Most things boil down to money for me (raised by an accountant and living on a NC teacher salary). I keep my hair up (roots and cut) because my stylist happens to be a great friend and gives me a great discount. I wear makeup often, but have scaled way back in the last few years (just wear foundation and mascara to work.. full face for dates/weddings/occasions) because it cuts costs and I'm not self conscious about it. But the nails... OMG having my nails done (gel manicure) is something I miss so bad I can't stand it sometimes. I try to maintain my own nails by polishing them myself (even got into Jamberry for awhile) but it's just not the same. But spending that extra money on myself bi weekly isn't something I can justify in the family budget.
I'm with @FSUNole31 I love makeup. I wear it everyday and perfume. I color my hair too and keep my nails done too. It's just the way I was raised. All of the women around me did it.
I think this is the reason I don't. I'm so unlike my mom it's a wonder that she actually gave birth to me. She even has a theory that your bra, underware, and socks must match because you never know when you might be in an accident and ended up at the hospital for everyone to see your undergarments.
Not so funny story. My mom had a grill blow up on her. She had 2nd degree burns on her arm and face. She was home alone, and instead of calling 911 she called her best friend to have her come over and help her put on a bra. Because she worked at the hospital and she didn't want them to see her without one...
Fyi she's fine this was 20 years ago but walking into to my mom's friend yelling "no one is going to care about your bra" is burned into my memory.

I feel similarly. I would love to be able to change up my hair regularly, and get my nails done every two weeks. I'm a SAHM though and while DH has said he doesn't mind spending the money on it, I do. It would make me feel more put together and less frazzled, I think, but I can't help feeling it's a waste of money. Not to mention all of the time that goes into keeping up with that stuff! I can't justify (to myself) spending the time away from home. I used to be one of those women that couldn't leave the house without makeup and now it's a rare occasion, like date night with DH, when I actually do wear makeup. I by no means judge other mommas who put the time/money towards hair, nails, etc. On the contrary, I'm jealous! I wish I didn't feel like I had to be such a mommy martyr all the time. I'm working on trying to be more self minded but it's hard.
I'll jump on the makeup train... I have nice makeup and I like when I have it on/had the time to do it well... and yes, contouring!!! but nothing crazy just a little shadowing here/there and highlight under my eyes. I actually like watching make up tutorials on YouTube (shout out to Jaclyn Hill!) but I would say I'd be lucky to wear it once a month... more like only date nights at nicer restaurants, for events, and when I travel for work to my HQ which is max 3 weeks a year.
For me, personally, it is all about time! I'm not waking up an extra 5 or 10 minutes just for makeup, I'm just not... I work with almost all men and they don't wear it so I don't feel the need to either, haha!
It is annoying though how much attention I get when I do wear it to work, it does make a huge difference I guess, but I don't think I'm THAT unfortunate looking without it... But even when it is just date nights DH complains b/c he doesn't like me in make up, he thinks I don't need it and he says the same about me straightening my hair... but I like taking a little time to primp and look what I feel is my best for my man when we get out of the house (which is NOT often).
I don't feel like I NEED to wear makeup, but I really enjoy it. I like looking nice. I love trying out new products and styles. I don't think it's time consuming. It takes me roughly 5 mins to put on a face of makeup in the morning and if I'm going out for the night I love the process of getting ready and taking extra time on it. It has nothing to do with feeling self conscious without it. That being said I don't wear it to work out, I'll go to the store without it, I take it off before bed. But I have no shame in wearing it daily and I often come home from work, shower, and reapply some for the evening.
Same here. I would never come to work without makeup, but I don't feel like women who don't wear makeup look any less professional!
If you wear a face full of makeup where I work and come in with pageant hair no one will take you seriously. I should add I am an engineer in the aerospace industry. Every summer we play guess the intern bc they come into the plant in heels and their hair curled and fancy. Umm girl do you want me to hold your purse while you climb in the helicopter?
I mean I've definitely seen some tacky and cheesy ones. But I've seen some that are well done and adorable. To me it feels like how people decorate the rest of their house. Most super decorated homes have a theme of some sort whether it's a color theme, a general theme (like "cottage" or "vintage" or whatever) or something specific. And decorating has always been one of those very hit or miss things for me which is probably why I don't bother.

@mombod I used to work in the aerospace industry. I came in with my hair down once and someone commented 'Oh it's Friday let your hair down!!' Good times...
Can't decide if this is more a UO, or a FFFC, so forgive me if this is the wrong place to post:
I want desperately to get past the point where we keep loosing people. Seems like all the losses are great (snarky) regular contributors, and only the trolls/AWs/drive-bys are lucky enough to stick around.
Some of that phenomenon has been discussed before - the tendency to coddle OPs who get 'offended' when called out on their sh*t, and file (bogus) reports. As has been said elsewhere, support isn't always rainbows, sometimes it's reminder someone the consequences of their decisions.

Gaaah! Yeah I kind of do. I agree it looks cute but it's not my style, I wouldn't ever purchase a matching crib sheet, ruffle thingy, curtains etc... I'm just not into the cutesy stuff (no animals, chevron, flowers, cartoons etc...). Maybe it's bc with our son we had zero time to work a nursery (by choice we didn't set anything up prior to adopting our son). His room is gray with some pops of neon and black/white but nothing is even for a "nursery" it's just regular home decor stuff and some vintage pieces from my parents (like my brothers old toy chest). So it's a weird mix of modern, colorful, and 70's vintage furniture. Haha, quite the theme!
To add on, @sejica, it seems as though whenever there's a WK or an OP who calls us bullies and such, they're only focusing on the negative posts and snark and not even acknowledging the support these boards give.
So if you only want to see the negative and refuse to acknowledge the positive, that's on you!
In my opinion, you get what you give from a board like this. You aren't going to get a ton of support, if you don't offer it. I'm still reeling from Belhurst's loss, so it did irritate me when some rando comes in and announces her child's sex to a group of women she had even had the courtesy to intro herself to.
I like wearing makeup. Doing it takes 5-10 minutes. I don't wear it at home though. If I'm not going out, I'll never put it on. And I usually only put it on right before I head out.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the randoms who say they don't see anyone giving support actually mean "no one's giving support to other randoms who aren't doing anything that *I* think is rude." Except, no, to all that.

Has anyone seen the beebo? Shoulder resting bottle feeding tool? Since I'm a FTM I understand that some people might flame me for this because of the potential to have hands free feeding, but I think they are ridiculous.
I am a minimalist. Take that for what its worth. I see nothing wrong with bottle feeding, just bottle feeding that resembles breast feeding and is not. I guess there are worse ways to bottle feed than the beebo too. Like fake boob feeding. So strange. If it works for you, I get it, but I don't think I would ever try something like that.

I think they are ridiculous too. I've learned how to feed a baby with a bottle with either 1 hand or you hold it with your chin!
