I'd also probably pick the farther one @kiyamurph if it's possible. It's great you have options though, I was told I couldn't use the hospital I hoped to have my baby in originally (where DH & I were both born) & that another hospital in the same healthcare network here was the ONLY option. We live equal distance between the two so that wasn't an issue, I just thought it'd be nice to have us all share the same birth place. At first I was bummed I couldn't get my way but after my Christmas Eve experience in the one we'll be delivering at I'm glad about it because it does have a NICU & is really nice. Good luck! I'm sure either way will be good but try to go with your gut where you'd feel more comfortable.
@kjd291 I carry low too. I think I got kicked in the ribs once with DS. One of my dr.s is funny, she tells me "now that you're a iSTM expect it to feel like she's about to fall out as you're chasing CJ around" FANTASTIC! can't wait for that lol
I almost went into MM today to look for some new tops to cover the bottom of my stomach, but I won't spend more than like 5 bucks on any of these poorly manufactured clothes when I only have a couple of months left. Looks like I'll be wearing the same 3 outfits for the foreseeable future haha
Good God, No! Hahah. So much to look forward to these coming weeks! There's no way I'm going to make it much longer without the preggo waddle making its lovely appearance.
That's interesting about carrying low. I'm a FTM and super short-waisted and expected to have this baby up by my ribs by now, but nope. The waddle is real.
I'm on the side of go to the further hospital. It will help your peace of mind knowing that the NICU is right there if, god forbid, you need it. I have a hospital literally 3 miles from my house, they have a NICU and are in a large medical system that has recently partnered with the Mayo Clinic. However, I hate that hospital. I'm going to a much smaller Healthplex that is 12 miles away, because I have a friend whose baby was 8 weeks early and they were taken here. The NICU at the Healthplex has a great reputation! While I don't anticipate needing it, I want it.
My OB measuring my uterus this morning "you know, some women grow out and some women grow up... You are definitely growing UP, you're gonna need to start pooching out soon though" I'm like yeah I know that's why I can't breath!!
Just had my 30 week checkup, all is good. I'm measuring about 1.5 weeks ahead (which I know is normal--within 2 weeks is fine from everything Ive heard) but my midwife wants me to get a growth ultrasound anyway out of an abundance of caution. I'm just excited to see my little girl again! I also have to make an appt with the MFM associated with my hospital as a precaution because i developed preeclampsia at the end of my last pregnancy. Anyone else have a precautionary appt? What in the world did they even DO? (My blood pressure had been fine, even obnoxiously low, and they have already been checking my urine for protein so i am not sure what to expect at this appt?) I won't go until Im 36 weeks, though.
I had to take my son to the apt is he was just so stinking cute. He was particularly interested in hearing the baby.

Aw! I'm glad he enjoys it!! My toddler cries every time the midwives touch me... blood pressure cuff, fundal hight, heart rate. ::eyeroll:: so sensitive. I feel silly getting someone to watch her for a 10min appt though-maybe after a few more she'll catch on that they aren't killing me?
Waiting at the doc office and someone is clipping their nails into their purse. Not just one hang nail but full manicure style. Ehhhh all I can think of is trying to get all the clippings out of the bottom of a purse
I rarely "lurk" but I clicked on one of those posts on the side of my page that led me to the most hilarious conversation where a mom who was 18w was freaking out because she ate 4-5 bites of rare steak a few days ago and just found out she shouldn't have done it and was worried she hurt the baby. Best responses ever: "You are now going to give birth to a cow. Scrap the nursery and start on your barn. Good luck with breast feeding." "If she gives birth to a cow, eventually it'll produce its own milk. Problem solved."
Breathing baby out vs. pushing?? Thoughts!? I'm going to bring this up at my next appointment, but I've heard a lot more lately about not so actively pushing as you deliver. With my first I hard core pushed and loved it ((but I never had the urge to push, it was doctor directed pushing)) I loved feelinf like I could finally "do" something instead of just letting my body labor... But it kinda makes sense to follow your bodys cues.
i think my take away is listen to your body and do what feels right. Don't push just because someone is telling you to ((unless your doctor requires this method)) but if you feel the urge to push from your body then go ahead!?
Well, the pushing only really works when you are having a contraction anyway. So...yeah. Are people hooked up to contraction monitors when pushing? How would they know?
The best advice my midwife gave me when I was trying to push is that it would feel like I was trying to poop. And it did. I especially had to push past the part when baby was going around my pelvic bone. I could feel the presure of him and had to grit my teeth and push into that feeling to get him past. Once his head was past that point I suppose I did just "breathe" him out--I didn't really bear down very hard, just exhaled "downward" if that makes sense. I'm not sure how breathing the baby out would work anyway. I mean, I'm sure people do it, I just can't imagine it because it seems very different from my personal experience. I had to actively push, the contractions alone weren't moving him down very much from what I could feel. My midwife didn't count or anything annoying like that, but she did encourage me to hold the pushes for longer than I initially was wanting to, like a couple of more seconds. It was actually really helpful encouragement. I was pushing for 3 hours before my guy made his appearance. I guess I am wary of anything that says you are pushing "wrong" because of the way your face looks or because you are pushing instead of breathing.
@kjd291 my body did the pushing! I had to tell the nurses/doctors that I was involuntarily pushing as they were setting up for the delivery and they told me to go with it! I didn't know it happened any other way actually

I have totally heard that. Nurses saying, "Wait, don't push yet, the doctors not here!" And the mom being like, Um, I can't help it, body does what it does!

This was me. I was apparently sitting at a 9.5 dilation and the nurse said I need to wait and I just knew and felt I absolutely had to push. I couldn't help it. She told me not to because the doctor isn't here yet and I told her I don't care I have to.. She ran to the phone so quick and yelled at the doctoe to get here now. He walked in right at baby was almost out.
@Burrberrymum@CanadianintheSouth so awesome! ( well, I think so ) just makes it feel like your so in tune with your bodies and what is best! --I had an induction, so I wonder if that's part of the reason I never had the urge? Call me crazy, but I'm getting excited to see what happens this time! Hah

I was induced as well. My water broke on its own but nothing progressed.. They hooked me up to the drip of oxytocin and things hit pretty hard. This was probably the one and only moment I felt in tune with what my body needed to do, otherwise I was just a whole mystery and I had no idea what was going on lol!
This whole thing about pushing makes me so happy to be a midwife patient. I love that they (most of them) have the mentality of doing what your body is supposed to do. With my son they ended up using the vacuum, but I always wondered if I had a midwife who wasn't in a rush, would we have ended up using that. I'll never know since the doctor claimed that he had to use it to reposition my son to get him out, but I've just always wondered what if.
i didn't get the urge last time to push but I also ended up with an epidural so maybe thats why. This time i'm hoping labor is more cooperative and I can avoid any meds so maybe it'll happen. I've always thought people had some balls telling a lady not to push. I get that you want the Doc to be there but still. What are you gunna do, push her back in?!?
@Gators&BoSox I had an epidural! It's the only time I "felt" something while the epidural was in. I didn't feel the pain, just felt myself pushing. I was actually pretty amazed as it was happening, between the epidural and my body pushing, it really didn't feel like I had to do much during the whole thing... praying I have the same experience this time around!
I was induced and felt like pushing. It happened so quickly after slowly dilating for a day. I had to call the nurse in. My mom was at the building next door for a doc appt and my husband went to get a change of clothes so we tried to hold off pushing until they both got back. Luckily they were there within 10-15 minutes and baby was pushed out in 3 pushes.
Random: I'm sitting here realizing that I've not been utilizing my husband at all for errands/cravings. Last pregnancy I constantly asked him to pick this or that up for me on his way home from work or would ask him to go out again at night. I need to rectify this and use him to his full potential!!!
Anyone else send their hubs for food cravings or such?
@kjd291 DH has been a trooper for getting food or anything while I've been sick but do you think I can get him to give me a little back rub?! really looking forward to my massage therapy appointment tomorrow!
@kjd291 that's too funny! I also have not been utilizing DH to his full potential at all. If anything I'm still too accommodating for him - tonight after I got home from work & got some food together just as I'm about to sit down & eat he asks me to fill up our dog's food bowl, because apparently him already being in a seated position excuses him from doing things. As I put food in the dog bowl I couldn't help thinking "shouldn't the pregnant one be the person making requests?"
@KateM I don't regret not getting pictures done but I also retain an ungodly amount of water when pregnant and develop a pumpkin head that I do not wish to have photographed. Personal preference I think. We did take a picture of DH myself and the dog right before we went to the hospital and I enjoy that one.
I'm right around 31 weeks right now and the bump is just becoming "substantial" to the point where I would consider photos...
How important were/are photos to others? I feel like I will be sad if I skip them but justifying the price with DH may be hard...
I semi regret not investing in a maternity shoot. My recommendations would be to find someone that includes newborn photos as well, some photographers offer the whole package and what I regret most is never getting newborn photos done more than anything. If I had the money to get a photo shoot done this time I would but it's just not in the budget unfortunately.
Been traveling for most of the week and just catching up! Two things today: offically put away my wedding rings for safe keeping, the swelling and weight gain have now puffed my hands just enough that I'm worried they would get stuck. AND some nursing pads, lanolin and a robe I ordered for my hospital bag arrived while I was away....and also my packs of larger size underwear to fit the pads comfortably after delivery. Something about staring at these fruit of the loom undies is making all of this undeniably real. Ha!!
My random today is I think we may have found a nanny we were going to do daycare but DH said he was willing to pay a little more to have someone come to the house. I messaged a friend who works at DS's old daycare and she gave us a recommendation. Talked to her on the phone and she seems great and in our price range yay. Meeting her on Sunday to see how we click and how she clicks with DS.
@mrsyimster it could be mucus plug or just a lot of random discharge... i never lost mine. it will regenerate though so not really a huge deal. some people think it's a sign of labor but i think its more of something that can happen along with other labor signs as opposed to something that is a trigger for labor

maybe i should clarify a little more my cervix have shortened a bit and doc is pretty sure i had a few and far apart real contractions the last few days...
but i agree with you.. i don't see it as a trigger. more like.. D DAY IS COMING
DH was a 10 lb baby at birth, so I've been anticipating LO will be a big baby too, esp since he's been measuring 2-3 weeks ahead. After reading this though, 10 lb seems small! My goodness I can't even imagine a 22 lb newborn! https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/heaviest-birth
