Please get rid of the entire concept of daylight saving time. I know some people disagree, that's fine, but with the current system I'm guaranteed two weeks out of EVERY year to be sleep-messed-up and bitchy. I'm already dreading March.

I don't get why people who live in the North complain about the snow and cold. It kind of comes with the territory. Of course it sucks with its below zero multiple days in a row, but when winter comes in Upstate NY, it's cold and it snows. Stop complaining & stop posting pictures on social media of you car covered in a dusting of snow or your thermostat.

@Jen_Shoes I'm laughing because I almost did that Monday it was negative 2 ! Yes I could move and I'd like to but it's not in the cards right now.
My UO is I cannot stand when people stay in their snow boots all day while at work. I work in a hospital and sometimes it's really unprofessional looking. I get it it snowed and your too lazy/ forgot to pack your normal shoes but think about how you look to patients

I'm convinced we keep it these days solely to fuck with parents of young kids. It's the worst.

Amen to changing into work appropriate shoes. Come in whatever works but then look like an adult. I do my D.C. commute in uggs in the winter and sperrys in the summer but the minute I hit my desk they go away.

My UO: I'm so glad we are entering baby shower drama season on here. I roll my eyes and laugh at it all a LOT.

Living in a state that doesn't do DST, I agree. It's so annoying to try to schedule mtgs with anyone in another state. No one can figure out the math.

Haha, I going to say I want to keep DST! But only because now they are talking about getting rid of it in ND. Like did they forget most of the population lives on the boarder with states that would keep it? We are already special snowflakes on Sundays, we don't need to add another specialty to ourselves....

ETA: Now if MN would agree to getting rid of it to, I wouldn't care. Just the fact they keep forgetting how close MN and ND are in EVERYTHING.

Spinoff of the DST thing...it is SO annoying living in one of the very few states that doesn't do it. I think it needs to be all or nothing. When I lived in Alaska it was super easy, we were always 1 hr from PST and 4 from East coast, easy! Now? I never have any effing clue. Sometimes we're considered MST, sometimes PST, I just call us AZ time. It's the worst though and makes me stabby.

Definitely agree with getting rid of daylight savings time. Even when we are supposedly gaining an hour of sleep, my toddler does not get the memo.

@SKZW Agreed! Prior to kids it was a minor inconvenience that didn't seem necessary. After kids it is a complete life ruiner and takes at least a month to get back to normal. Hate.

@Jen_Shoes Haha! While I am not a picture taker, I do bitch with the best of them about the cold, snow, and ice. I HATE IT! But this is also the best place to live, because all of the people I love are here. If only I could get everyone to move to a better climate!

@Yiggle09 I agree, but sometimes delay the removal of my boots for an extra 15 minutes or so. They are so cozy! There was one day I forgot my dress shoes. I felt like a dork the whole day though and it gave me flash backs to elementary school and forgetting my shoes.

@WombThereItIs I am waiting with desperate anticipation for some good MIL drama to start! Usually goes hand-in-hand with baby showers or planning who is in the room for delivery. Can't wait!

OU: I dislike Zulily and Kohls. Everyone I talk to loves them, but not I.

Most of AZ, except the Navajo reservation, HI, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands do not observe DST.

I also like to confuse people and refer to Mountain Standard and Mountain Daylight time. This is my protest against DST.

Parts of Idaho dont observe it either and another northern state I believe.

@Louise_Belcher omg, I've totally forgotten about those horrific days of being stuck in your snow boots at school all day. We had a dress code too where I had to wear a dress/skirt and tights so it felt/ looked even more ridiculous.

I feel like I've been living under a rock. I had no idea that not everyone has DST. Who even came up with this idea? like who said hey lets all turn our clocks back and pretend its 1pm instead of 2pm?

here in Michigan its dark at 515pm... you literally go to work when its dark and come home when its dark.. its terrible. In the winter I come home from work and put on my pajamas and then after my son goes to bed I am also ready for bed.. then I look at the clock and realize its only 8pm.

Same way you drive from one state and change times, you just have to know where the county lines are and who observes it

As an Arizona native who grew up not observing DST and now having to observe it where we live, it sucks. I have to constantly either be 1 hour behind my family/friends in Arizona or the same time. It's confusing. And there is absolutely no reason in the winter that we need to have it be dark at 430pm and in the summer it needs to be light until 10pm... it seriously is meant to just mess with parents/kids.

I just googled and apparently I am wrong. Idaho has 2 time zones, but both observe DST. "For three decades or so in the middle of the twentieth century, Shoshone County had its own time arrangements; it was said to be "on permanent daylight time",[2] so that in the winter the county had the same clock time as Montana and southern Idaho, but in the summer it had the same clock time as Spokane and northern Idaho."

I also think it's quite funny that so many of you do not know that some states don't observe DST. We had to learn about DST in school (even though we don't observe it), I feel like it should have been mentioned to those who do observe that "hey some people don't!"
If you look on your phone settings, that's why there is "Arizona" listed as it's own time zone and why there are options on things to "turn DST off" because we don't need it!

Then Indiana is the other "northern" state I was thinking, however they changed in 2006. "From 1970 until 2006, most of Indiana in the Eastern Time Zone did not observe daylight saving time, but the entire state started to do so in April 2006 after eight counties in western Indiana were shifted from the Central Time Zone to the Eastern Time Zone."

UO: I hate Kohls. None of their women's stuff ever fits me. I like the Vera Wang and Lauren Conrad collections, but everything runs so big. I also think they're whole "you saved $200 zillion dollars today" is such a scam. Um, no. You're just trying to make it sound that way. It's not like I would've ever paid $50 for that top in the first place and you know that.

I think some states have two different time zones in them as well, so I imagine it would be the same as driving through your time zone. But I know at least in Arizona they don't observe it except for the Navajo reservations and that's in the northern part of the state (think Grand Canyon) where you wouldn't really be driving from the Phoenix/ Metro area to that every day for work, the population in that area of the state is not very large.

For those of you who live on the East Coast I can see how it would be totally confusing as you can drive through so many states and everything is still the same time. You have to remember that on the West Coast/Midwest the size of our states are much larger. There are many states that are broken into different time zones, so we are more used to changing time zones simply by driving somewhere!

@nda_roxybabe - I agree that Kohl's has some very bad "original" pricing. Some time ago I looked up their diamond rings and a ring of worse quality than mine had an original price that was about twice as much as mine which was bought from a jeweler and certified, not from some random store. Savings are not quite as much as they pretend.

With that said, I've paid some ridiculously low prices for a lot of things. I remember last summer walking out with 13 pieces of summer clothes for the kids plus like 5 pairs of kids' socks for $22 bucks. I don't even think I could do that at the consignment store. So of course I had to go back later that day and do it again.

JCPenney did an experimental sales model a few years ago, does anyone else remember this? They completely did away with sales, coupons, discounts, etc., for clothing and listed every single item for the lowest price possible. So that MSRP $50 shirt would be $30 all day, every day. They figured, consumers would want to pay the lowest price without all the gimmicks.... It failed. Horribly. I loved the idea but never got into the habit of shopping there (preference/proximity to other stores). Ultimately so many people complained, wanting to SEE what they "saved," that they reverted. People are morons.

UO: A bad event happening to someone doesn't justify their bad behavior, just explains it. Had a huge debate about that the other day and I was surprised I was in the minority view.

I might have said this before, but I don't love babies -- when we were on the fence about stopping at 2 vs. going for 3, seeing a baby made me want one LESS, not more. It was seeing families with 3 older kids that reminded me I did want a third.

Relatedly, I had an occasion to hold a baby the other day and I did fine (luckily the baby was probably about 6 mo and past the floppy head stage), but I felt like I had NO idea of what I was doing and that I was totally awkward. I felt like it was impossible that I had had TWO babies already.

So my official UO (because I think I already used the "I don't love babies" one) is that I'm terrified of babies, especially in the first 2-3 months when their neck muscles are completely worthless! I feel like a FTM again who has never babysat.

@nda_roxybabe I'm with you on Kohl's women clothing, they are priced too high. I only shop for the clothes for myself if my mom treats me. Or I just check the clearance rack only. I did score a couple pairs of maternity capris for only 8 bucks each and they're pretty great. They do have a pretty amazing baby sale going on right now, the details are over in the holiday deal thread if you haven't seen already

@sjsmommy Ugh. Just ugh. I loathe getting a cleaning. I have always had sensitive gum so it hurt if they're not gentle.

@kat81 I feel you on feeling like a FTM with a baby. I held a friend's baby when he was 10 months and I'm just like yeah just put him in my arms and I won't be moving because I don't want to worry about his neck. I forgot how strong they can be! And then again at 6 months. He just sat in my lap and leaned against me and I'm like okay cool, just.. hang out here.

@SJsMommy and @Louise_Belcher ewww. I HATE the dentist. Like, more than anything. I had a way easier time with my biopsy even watching the needle go in and watching it take a chunk out of me on the screen (I thought that was super cool!) than I ever have at teeth cleanings.

@OmegaRose3 I completely agree. I like to say that bad events may be reasons for behavior, but not excuses. I completely understand that things like long-term childhood trauma have a major impact on adult behavior and that's different, but I know many people who have had a sad or even traumatic event in their childhood or adult lives who were able to move on and be successful, capable adults. It sounds judgy to say, but I really strongly believe that life is all about attitude and using bad events to justify crappy behavior is not ok in my book. That being said, I absolutely have taken advantage of my diagnosis and how bad everyone feels for me to ask for additional supports at work that my school district wouldn't usually provide, and I have no shame about that.

@kat81 +1 for being scared of babies in the floppy stage. I was fine with DS but I was NOT comfortable holding other peoples little blobs in the early stages. I like looking at pictures and I think they're cute and I get excited when people I care about are pregnant, but I don't want to hold your baby. Sorry.

My UO which I thought of this morning at my MFM appointment, is that I don't mind/maybe even like hospitals. My dad was a doctor so growing up my only exposure to hospitals was visiting him at work which was fun. And while I don't get excited per se about going into hospitals now as an adult I don't have any anxiety or fear about them and I would describe my overall view toward hospitals as favorable. I don't think I've ever met anyone else who feels the same way.
