Gender Predictions?

Has anyone tried the Chinese gender prediction chart just for fun? https://www.thebump.com/chinese-gender-chart

Or any other gender prediction calendar or a myth or old wives tales?

According to both the Chinese calendar and the Maya calendar, my child is predicted to be a girl. They were right with my DD.

  • baby #1 was predicted to be a girl... wrong. now baby #2 also says girl....

    Canadian Bumpie - Texas bound
    DS #1 [S-5]

  • It's predicting a girl!  But I checked for DS, and apparently he's also a girl!
  • It says girl for me. I have no solid inclination either way, and I'll honestly be thrilled for a girl or a boy.

  • I feel I look a at that chart and do my age like it suggests (age at conception) then both times its wrong. However if I do it as age when I gave birth, than it's correct both times
  • Both charts say girl for me... once we get a little farther along I think it would be fun to test several of the gender wives tales and then see which ones were the most/least accurate.

  • It's a 50/50 chance of being right! Lol For DS some of the Chinese gender charts said girl and some said boy. These things can be fun so long as you take them with a grain of salt and know its just a game.
  • Mine was right for my DS and this time is saying girl so I guess we will see
  • Mine says girl. Its cute how the little baby pops up and says Hi mom!

  • Chinese chart says boys all around. I did the needle on a string test with my DD (which we were planning on being one and done). It swung in a circle...stopped...swung in a circle...stopped...and swung in a circle a third time indicating three children, all girls (will swing in a pendulum if a boy, circle for girl).
i laughed because we only wanted ONE. Ended up with a girl! Then I got pregnant last year and it was still doing three circles. That pregnancy ended in a loss and now I'm pregnant a THIRD time. This is the last try for us...I just tried it again and got three circles. Even tried it with my wedding ring over my palm with same results. And my BFF got one pendulum when she tried...has one boy.

With all that said...meh...all wive's tales I'm sure. 100% pregnant...time will tell on the sex! Lol

  • My doc said sometimes she knows the sex at 10 weeks is that even possible? I always thought you had to wait longer than that.

According to the chart it says girl. I check it for my other two and it was correct to say boy for both. I guess only time will tell! ;)

  • With my first, the Chinese chart said boy and she was a girl. This time it says girl. I am craving meat and cheese this time and I craved sweets last time. My nails are really brittle and my face is really clear (indicating a boy). Fingers crossed for a boy this time!  :)

  • Anyone try the "sneak peek" blood test with previous pregnancies??

I feel a little crazy, but I might just spend the $80 to see what it says, then confirm at our anatomy scan.
  • @thirdANDfinal We had an elective ultrasound with DS at 16 weeks to find out he's a boy.  I didn't know there was a blood test!  Does your OB do it?
  • Both charts told me I was having girls my last two pregnancies, and I had two boys. This time it says girl again. It's fun, but i wouldn't say its believable.

I automatically find out the sex at about 11wks because I'm AMA...we have to take a genetics blood test and it also tells the sex.

  • @thirdANDfinal I'm right there with you on the "I feel a little crazy, but...." lol. I think it would be fun, but I'll probably just wait and do the gender reveal scan at 16 weeks.

  • @HollyGolightly09 isn't gender usually found out at the 20wk anatomy scan?

  • I used this one and it said boy. I used one on another site and it said girl. So I'm saying it's probably twins. LOL

Both sites correctly predicted based off of my DD info....so that's scary.

  • @Texafornian Yes.. my OB offers one at 16 weeks just to check gender and get a DVD/pictures of baby. It is optional, and  not covered by insurance. I believe she said it is either $50 or $75 depending on the length of scan you get.

@Texafornian Ah, I see.  This might be a silly question.  I feel like I used to know, but don't anymore.  What is considered AMA?  35?
  • @Sprite2012 Advanced Maternal Age...anyone over 35 qualifies lol

  • @Texafornian Thanks, I knew AMA.  I just couldn't remember the age. If I recall, I think it used to be referred to as "Geriatric Pregnancy".......which is kind of ridiculous.  AMA is way better!
  • Mine says girl.  It also said girl for my first pregnancy, which turned out to be a boy. :-)  So I dunno!  My gut feeling says I will have another boy.
  • Both say boy for me. So does Shettle's method. Hmmm....

  • ah what the hell! It didn't post again lol.

@Sprite2012 I'm feeling a little geriatric in that I'll be 44 at birth and my GRANDMA was 42 when I was born!!

  • @Texafornian It was a different time!  I'm pretty sure both sets of grandparents were in their mid-late 40s when I was born too!  I'll be 35 when this baby is born, I wonder if I'm considered AMA anyway?
  • @Sprite2012 when do you turn 35? If it's early in pregnancy you might qualify for the blood genetics (i.e. Harmony, Maternity21 etc). It's covered by insurance whereas if you're younger it's optional.

  • @Texafornian  I turn 35 in August.  So almost exactly a month before I'm due.  I'm guess not.

  • @Sprite2012  I know my Dr bases everything off the age you'll be when you give birth... I would definitely ask!

  • This calendar says boy for me, that's what it said last time and it was correct. There's a 50/50 chance it's right, I'll find out in about 34 weeks.

March 2016 Moms: January Siggy Challenge "Pregnancy Problems"
  • Just tried and got boy. I checked it for my first and it was right about girl. I got the blood test for gender last time and will this time. I max our insurance out every year with my immune deficiency medicine. So we hit our out of pocket max regardless. So I might as well find out early. I love knowing. I'm so impatient lol.
  • Girl. My MIL does the pencil test and has been correct on 7 grandchildren. She was correct on our son. This one is supposed to be girl. I will be super shocked if she is wrong.
  • Last time this said boy and I had a girl. This time it says girl.

I have crazy strong boy vibes. Last time I didn't really feel like I had any inclination one way or the other, but the week before we found out it was a girl I had two different dreams about having a girl.

After a high risk pregnancy last time with multiple scares, I just want healthy and boring this time. Do not care what sex the baby is.
  • The chart predicted boy for me, which is funny because we've always thought we'd have a boy. Just watch, it will actually be a girl now lol.

On a side note, AMA is defined based on how old you will be at your estimated due date. So if you are 34 now, but will be 35 at delivery, you are considered AMA.

Also, it is now possible to learn the gender as early as 10 weeks with a blood test called non invasive prenatal genetic testing (NIPT) or cell-free fetal DNA testing. It also looks for chromosome problems like Down syndrome. The test used to only be available to women with AMA or other risk factors, but is becoming more common for it to be offered to all women now.
