@laurenm2123 Jackie kept grabbing onto the spoon making feeding take 5x as long so we've adopted more baby led weaning and she's really taken to it. I've even used some of the purees I already had to make little pancakes that she can eat by herself.

What a great idea!! Just put them in the pan with a little bit of butter like you would a real pancake? She's not into purées and her pincer grasp isn't good enough for her to pick up small pieces (we tried orzo and cheerios). She did love to suck on a piece of avocado though so this pancake idea may just work!
I'm also going to try our mesh feeders once I run to the grocery store to buy some fresh fruit and veggies.

Yeah, I did sweet potatoe/apple and pea/carrots and it's just the purée, 1 egg and some flour until you have a nice thick consistency. Then I fried them in a pan and froze them so I can just take one out and zap it for a few seconds in the microwave.

Is anyone feeding meat baby food yet? I noticed some jars that were like turkey or chicken. Honestly the idea of meat in a jar or pouch seriously grosses me out. Lol. I don't think I want Ethan to have meat until he can eat meat we cook.

We plan to introduce chicken next week. We're toing to make our own for him though. I spoke to my mom on the phone yesterday and she said both my brother and I didn't like jarred baby food meats as babies since they were so bland. I will probably do plain chicken for a few days and then combine it with a veggie I know he likes to make it more enjoyable (if he doesn't like it as is).
I'm super weird about meat and always have been, so I definitely don't plan on giving any jarred meat to Savannah. I'll just cook her some without any spices eventually.
Damien loves to chew/suck on tags...like tags on clothing, blankets, etc. No matter what I give him, he can find the damn tag in seconds. Anyone else have an LO doing that or fixated on something unusual?

Savannah is OBSESSED with the tags on the boppy. We constantly put her on the floor with the boppy behind her and then she starts laying over the side of the boppy playing with the tags. So weird!

STUCK IN BOX!! Tristan is obsessed with both of these things! And he loves scooting over the the OXO wipes container we have and hitting it open...definitely not kid proof! Silly boy!

Yes! The tag on his playmat is a particular favorite. What's funny is that we have one of those Taggie blankets with little ribbon tags all around the border, and he is nowhere near as interested in that as he is in real tags.
Also, S is constantly after the diapers and wipes. It's like these babies have a sixth sense for the things they aren't really supposed to have

Hmmm a taggie blanket, maybe I should get one for Damien! I'm glad Damien isn't the only one obsessed with tags. He is also crazy about wipes. When I wipe his face after feedings, he constantly tries to eat them. Every.damn.time.

The daycare teachers told us that most babies hate the meat in a jar. They recommend waiting until he's old enough to just eat the cooked stuff we make. Too bad. I had three cases of jarred meat purees. We'll try them but for now, our cat loves them

Damien tried homemade puréed chicken the other day and didn't mind it too much. Today I mixed it with butternut squash (he loves that) and couldn't get enough. I wouldn't have been surprised if he didn't like it tho...I thought it wasn't that great.
Anyone else notice that their LO isn't as interested in milk (BM or formula) since introducing solids? Our ped was concerned at Damien's last appt that he was drinking way too much formula so she wanted us to increase the amount of solids we feed him along with giving them to him 3x a day. The past few days he just doesn't want the bottle so while we were coasting at 32oz of forumla after increasing his solids, now I'm lucky to get him to drink 20-24oz per day. Maybe it has nothing to do with the solids, could be something else? He's hungry when I offer a bottle, I know that for sure but he takes a suck or two and pushes it away. He continues to do that when I offer it and when I stop trying, he just cries and fusses because he is hungry.
Has anyone tried giving their LO nuts? My ped said honey was the only restriction but the idea of giving him nuts and peanut butter makes nervous.
I just read an article that there is more research to support that giving nuts and other common allergens early and often can decrease the likelihood of allergies. Obviously not widely accepted yet. My ped still gave a paper that said no nuts, fish or shellfish.

I think nut products are okay as long as there is no family history of allergies, but nuts themselves are a big choking hazard. Our ped suggested diluting peanut butter at first with breadtmilk to make it easier to swallow. We haven't done it yet because I haven't really had an occasion to offer peanut butter. I may introduce "toast fingers" soon, and eventually I'll start putting a thin layer of peanut butter on.
Like @meggyme said, there was an article that just came out suggesting there can be some benefit to introducing nuts earlier, but I'm pretty sure they said that if a baby is not at risk for allergies then it's fine for parents to wait until whenever they are comfortable. Here is the link to the article I read:

We just started having this issue in the past 2 days. My theory is that it may have something to do with teething. S has seemed to be in a little more pain than usual these past couple of days (poor kid hasn't cut a single tooth yet, but it looks like his whole mouth is right in the verge). I know teething is supposed to make the sucking process more painful, so maybe the solids are easier on his gums? I'm hoping this phase passes quickly so we can get back to our normal nursing routine.
@annaf2011 I was thinking of doing a purée of peanuts to give him a test. We don't have a family history of food allergies so I'm hopeful that he won't. Maybe all those peanut butter sandwiches I ate while breastfeeding helped too?
I wondered if he could be teething too. I thought he might have a tooth coming in ages ago but it was a false alarm. Like your LO, Damien hasn't popped a tooth yet and I swear I see a bunch just waiting to make their debut!

How much formula is a baby this age supposed to get? My LO only takes 3-4 bottles a day, averaging 24-28oz. He gets three solids a day (cereal, veggie, fruit).

My ped said no more than 32oz per day. 24oz is the minimum based on what I've researched.I think you're doing just fine, that's the amount that Damien's been eating the past few days. I kinda freaked out about it since I thought it wasn't enough.
You guys, I just tasted a tub of the Gerber bananas. They're SO GROSS. It's like bananas, but syrupy. YUCK!!! The apples on the other hand...YUM. I'm hoping BEECHNUT isn't as nasty

Beechnut should be a lot better. Lol. It's thicker consistency then most other brands.
We use Happy Baby pouches when we're on the go and my husband tried a little of Ethan's strawberry, banana and amaranth and said it was delicious. Hahaha.
at what point do the rules change for introducing new foods? I know when you introduce a new food you are supposed to not introduce something else new for at least 4 days or so. At what point can you just say here try this and now this? For instance, some store-bought stage 2 foods are mixed fruits and some of those fruits he has not had before, so at what point can I just start mixing things up vs. Not giving it because he hasn't had that particular one before? I hope that makes sense.

Initially we would introduce one and then wait 3 days before adding a new one but now we don't wait anymore. IT's been really great since his "meals" now include a 2-3 types of food, he seems to really enjoy the diversity.

I also stopped doing the 3 day wait after reading an article on how it is considered over cautious. My family has no history of food allergies, so I basically avoid excess salt and sugar, and try to introduce anything new in the morning so I can watch for any reactions.

Yea, we don't have a history of it either. That's good advice to do new foods in the morning, I try to do that too. Sometimes my husband does the dinner feeding and introduces something new without me realizing it but we haven't had any issues.
We do BLW so he constantly eats new foods. Our pediatrician said that's fine cause there are like zero allergies in our families. Today he had stew, he's had omlettes, meatloaf ECT. We also do some purée for times when he can't eat my food he lives the pouches. He just sucks then right out of the bag and they are pretty yummy. I may have stolen some sips and bites of his food.
LO had mangos on Saturday (puree) and he has 6 really red welts on his back and one on each foot and one on his hand. They don't seem to bother him much and I'm guessing the mangos was too allergenic?

Interesting. I got a mango to chop up for Jackie this week. I'll have to make sure I do it in the morning so I can watch for a reaction like this.

Oh goodness, that's awful. I'm glad it doesn't bother him at least! Damien's been eating puréed mangos for awhile and I haven't noticed that sort of thing. Every baby is different though so he could totally be having a reaction! He didn't happen to stand barefoot on something that could have caused it? Also laying bare back or putting his hands on that same thing?
I've know people with mango allergies and sometimes the skin of the mango can make them breakout too because it's a cousin to poison ivy. At least it doesn't bother him. Charlotte broke out after going to my moms and she didn't have any new foods or dairy. I'm almost hoping it was the cat. I finally got her eczema under control so I'm not sure if the cat could have caused a flare up before because she's never really been eczema free. I'm going to have to start a food diary for her and I'm not happy about it.

Wow, I didn't know the mango skin could do tha, crazy! I feel for you on the eczema. We finally got Damien's under control too. His was due to his drooling and only showed up on his upper chest, neck, and chin. It was awful though and effected his sleep as well.
The mangos he ate were pureed. The Beechnut. I can't think of anything else. He has a welt (joined two) on the ankle, another on his arm, another on the other leg and like six on his waist (back). He was around a lot of plants on Saturday too, but I'm wondering if it was the mangos. We've suspended them for now. The daycare says that mangos are a last food because they tend to be more allergenic. Again, he's being a real trooper.

I hope they go away soon and so glad he is taking it in stride. It always amazes me how well our babies can handle so many new experiences and situations (good and bad ones).
