UO triggered by something I saw lurking in another BMB: I don't care if you decide to have a shower or "sprinkle" or a freaking deluge for your 2nd, 3rd, or 10th baby. You do you. What I can't stand is when people say "It's not okay to have a shower for a 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc) baby UNLESS it's a different sex than your previous babies." Sooo...you can only have a party if your fetus has different genitalia than your previous children? That makes no sense to me. At all.

Isn't Cat & Jack the same as Circo, just renamed? I know they have the same zip from the bottom sleepers that Circo had. And their random t-shirts and leggings seem to be similarly priced.

You know what the worst is?
"I'm cute, Moms cute, Dad lucky" *gag* That comes across as vanity on the mothers part since she presumably put the shirt on the child.

I feel like Circo used to have those and also the super cheap tshirts and leggings/pants/shorts that were comparable to walmart's granimal line, but a lot cuter. I just feel like target went from having some "high end" (comparatively) and some "low end" clothes, and now they just have the more expensive ones. I think I notice the difference especially in the toddler section. I think the baby clothes are about the same, but the toddlers have a lot more "cutsie" or "trendy" options rather than simple play clothes. We have gotten some for the girls on clearance, but I used to be able to get shirts on clearance at target for one or two dollars, and now it's on clearance for 8to13 dollars!
And Gerber just had those awesome baby gowns. I don't think I have anything else of the Gerber brand, so I'm not sure what the rest of their clothes were like!

I think the zoo parents and the zoo were definitely judged way too harshly. Anyone that has watched more than one child at a time knows that you could turn your head for literally seconds to tend to one and the other is off making trouble. And zoos try to design exhibits with prime viewing for their patrons and I can see how a freak accident could happen and someone could fall in. It was an awful and tragic mistake, but it was just that, a mistake.

The dresser parents do get a little side eye from me because unless you live in a huge mansion (maybe they do?) you should be able to hear that crash and you should come investigate. But I don't side eye them for not having it anchored because it was a low dresser and I think most people think those are safe.

I don't know if this is a UO here, but it definitely is with a lot of my mom friends. If my children want to play football or soccer, I will let them. I know that head injuries are a risk, but if it's something they are passionate about, I would help them do it and would try to minimize risks as best you can. I've seen such a hard line stance against sports (my child will never be allowed to do that) and I guess I feel that sometimes the things you gain from sports can outweigh the risks.

@Squirtgun, I totally agree that clearance prices seem higher in general. I've still found some good deals, but I was scooping up tees for like $2 a pop and now they are like $6 on the low end. I do think that the toddler boy Cat & Jack stuff is adorable and less cutesy than the girl stuff. And although I just finished complaining about the clearance prices, I did get some super cheap Cat & Jack jeggings for baby girl in 12-18 month size (yes, I shop that far ahead frequently for the kiddos if I can get good deals) for like $3 each on clearance while they were running the extra 20% off promo.

@Kipperoo I may or may not have up to size 5 in my closet from deals when my bigger child is just in 2T! No shame in that game!! And yeah, I do tend to end up getting them stuff from the boys section pretty often (usually a lot warmer, sturdier, and more practical!) and my favorite of older daughter's sweat pants are boys cat and jack!

DH excelled at football through college. He refuses to let his kids play tackle football and I agree with him. I think flag football and soccer are ok.

@kayemjay2 - I have to disagree. Baby showers are celebrations for mothers welcoming them to motherhood not simply parties to get presents for the upcoming baby. While I actually think that more than one shower can be okay (big gap in age between kids, different sex, family only), showers for every child seem grabby. People are not here to pay for you having a child each time you do. Plus I find that those that really want to give a gift, will do so no matter how many children you have or their sex. If I am invited to a shower beyond the first shower, I really consider my relationship to the mother when deciding whether to go or not. I usually find that 2nd showers and beyond are not very well attended and there's a reason for that.

@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot out of curiosity, is it specifically because of the head injuries? I recently read that while football has more concussions, the concussions sustained while playing soccer are statistically more serious and more damaging.

@squirtgun @Kipperoo count me in for shopping way in advance. Dd is in 2t/3t clothes and I have one plastic container full of 4t and some 5t/xs stuff. This little guy already has brand new clothes up to 12mos so far. I couldnt pass up on some of the packs of onesies for 50% plus the 20% at Target last week. If they stay in good condition and I sell them as a lot later, I'll even get my money back basically. Frugal mom ftw?

@MoshiMoshi7 Yes it's due to head injuries. DH has had at least 5 concussions (including one sustained while doing laundry last year...but that's another story). I hadn't heard that about soccer, but it's interesting. I also suppose the same could be said for any helmet-less sport in which one could get a concussion.

@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot lol about the laundry concussion! You're right, the same could be probably be said for any helmet-less sport. Maybe that's why I have a hard time drawing a hard line against football? (if my children were passionate about it, it's definitely not something I would bring up myself) Maybe it's because DH still races motocross and my own father professionally raced cars while I was growing up and I see team sports as less risky in general? (Which may not, in fact, even be true.) I'm not sure.

@MoshiMoshi7 and @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot my husband still plays semi-pro football and is very adamant against our children (boy or girl) playing tackle football until high school. This is due to the high concussion rate. He of course does plan to teach them from an early age how to take a tackle, because you never know. Some parents teach their kids to be ruthless and I have seen so many injuries from other players doing illegal maneuvers in games.

My UO is that I don't care for pierced ears on baby girls. It's simply NMS. A friend just pierced her baby's ears and I think it looks so out of place. This probably falls into my anti-frills/rhinestones opinion I've voiced before. The person piercing the baby's ears also told my friend that babies don't have any feeling in their ear lobes. Uhhh... Ok.. I'm not saying you can't do it, but I will think your kid looks like Elizabeth Taylor. If you are going to do it, please go to a professional piercing place that uses a hollow needle instead of a gun.

I'm really glad that dresser video went viral because I hadn't really thought about anchoring the dresser. I'm sure I would have come across the idea at some point, but it led to me asking DH what he thought about anchoring it and he was like "yeah, of course we will." So that's one less thing to worry about.

@kat81, I'm totally pro leash for toddlers and younger. My friend's kid was running at about 9 months old. It was really cool to be able to walk around in public with him and give him the freedom to run around without having to worry about him running into the road. We kept him out of people's way, though.

My mom leashed my sister back in the 90's when people didn't do that kind of thing. They looked at my mom like she was a crazy person, but my sister had a lot of behavioral issues and it made her manageable.

I'm wracking my brain for a UO, and I just don't have one today. Eh, except I hope it snows. We haven't had a good snow yet this winter.

For my family, it is a cultural thing for girls to have their ears pierced. My grandma frowns upon my cousins and I if our daughters ears aren't pierced right away. I do not agree with the statement that their ear loves don't have feeling. If that was true they wouldn't cry. We only get ears pierced at our pediatrician.

I can't think of an UO myself. Maybe it can be that this isn't my favorite thread. But that is because I can never come up with a good one.

The dresser parents were not judged nearly harsh enough. I'm sorry I felt like the media made a bigger deal out of the "hero twin" than the parents negligence. They started putting anchor kits in the boxes for a reason. And they knowingly placed twin toddlers in toddler beds where they could get out without safety precautions. I had that same dresser (un-anchored) in my twins room and once they moved to toddler beds we took the dresser out until it could be secured. That same dresser series from IKEA makes it rounds monthly in all the twin FB pages.

Cat & jack is adorable but pricey when you think about it being from Target.

Secondary showers, I could take them or leave them.

Leashes, this reminds me to go pick up the ones I bought from another twin mom tomorrow.... obviously very pro leash, judge away, but I know my kids won't be able to run into the street.

And football wise I am so conflicted DS was born with Congenital Kyphosis and there is a probability he won't be able to ever play. Knowing his spine is already abnormal I don't want him to play ever, DH says we will ask his surgeon when he is old enough (as of right now he has no restrictions). This is one of the biggest dumb fights we regularly have, considering it is years down the road.

Pierced ears: we did DD's after her tetanus shot, and I think they are super cute but a PITA because she constantly looses them. Also done at the pediatrician.

Did I get them all?

I agree with you! My post wasn't meant to be super pro-subsequent baby showers, and I wouldn't have one, but it doesn't really bother me when other people do it. What DOES bother me is when people say that subsequent showers are ONLY acceptable when the second (or third, etc) baby is of a different sex than the first. That does not justify anything.

Catching up and re: IKEA they also offer pickup of the dressers and will pay you for them if you don't want them. I wanted a new bedroom set anyway so I'm going to look into it. A friend said she got $500 for her three and they didn't need to have receipts.

Re: Circo and Gerber I guess my UO is I won't miss them. Gerber ran nearly 2 sizes too small and Circo about 1 size. It was really hard to keep track of what all fit at any point because the sizes were so erratic. Plus the quality was kind of sucky. I'm not exactly into the Wes Anderson movie clone baby Cat and Jack either so I'll probably do Carters for layette again this time.

I'm late to the party but had to chime in that I hate whipped cream too @h&pmomma and @Louise_Belcher! People always think it's weird when I ask for stuff without whipped cream, but I have never like it. I also hate frosting and either take it off or eat around it. My H laughs when I eat a piece of cake and leave a perfect F-shaped pile of frosting on the plate.

Somewhat related to the Circo/Cat/pricing for kids' clothes topic: Did you see this story recently about the pink vs blue razors being priced differently? Kind of not surprising. Halfway down the page there's a screenshot of Carter's long-sleeved white shirts for boys and girls: same shirts at different prices.

There's a 3-minute video from CNN Money that plays on this page when you open it. Interesting experiment in pricing men's vs women's products. Sound level warning: The annoying commercial that plays before it might be loud.

@vrj0522 yep, a friend told me to add a drop of clear nail polish to her next set but I'm undecided if I want to try that. The actual piercing earrings worked the best/longest

. I bought some cheap "children's" earrings that I am going to try, they supposedly have shorter posts so it shouldn't be as big of an issue, but we will see.
