  • @Nikkilegare @CCBrownEyedGirl @dragonette505 Have you gals started to experience any bloating/fullness yet? Im only on day 4 of stims and I've already got an uncomfortable belly going on. I'm a little concerned about OHSS. My appt is in the morning so I'll definitely ask about it, but just curious how everyone else is feeling.

  • Going in tomorrow morning for my Day 4 BW/US! Fingers crossed for lots of follies!

    Just call me CC.  :)

  • @CCBrownEyedGirl Great! Another cycle buddy! Welcome!!!
  • @Nikkilegare I also think it's cool to be able to know the science of baby making.... just hoping this process works for us!
  • @Lin&say I was just thinking today I've got to log the bloated feeling I'm having! In the past I've not really noted down when it begins so I feel like... wtf.... why am I so bloated on day 6?!? Lol maybe that's how I felt last time but I can't remember!
i go in tomorrow (stim day 7) since they are closed today... I had very mild ohss last time so hoping I don't get it again! Not fun and it can mean no fresh transfer
  • @dragonette505 what were your estradiol levels like last cycle with the OHSS? Mine was 852 this morning (day 5 of stims), which seems insanely high for this early although the nurse said it was good. They aren't lowering my meds either and since I'm already not feeling well, I can't imagine what the next few days are going to be like  :s

  • AH i forgot to write my estradiol level down.. I only remember that I have 8 follicles measuring 11 - 13mm so I am staying on 225 of Gonal F and starting the Cetrotide shot tonight as well.  Nurse said that the doctor made a comment on my results saying everything looks "Great!" so  yay!

I have to order more Gonal F though... not fun $$$$$$

@dragonette505 & @Lin&say   I am feeling so sleepy all of the time... and a grumbly feeling down towards my uterus... its weird, wearing mostly just LuLaRoe leggings at this point!

@CCBrownEyedGirl eeeek! yay hoping for lots of follies for youuu!!!

  • This girl's got 10 follicles!!! Not bad for starting with 2! They're all between 6 and 8.2, so still on 225 Menopur and 225 Gonal F until they reevaluate on Wednesday.

@Nikkilegare- I commiserate! This is so expensive! Do you have Compassionate Care? I get 50% off most of my meds. They respond within 24 hours.

@lin&say- I'm new to this IVF game, but mine was 383 on day 4. IDK if that helps...

@dragonette505- Good luck tomorrow! Fx for no ohss!

@Lin&say I think it's kinda based on several factors... so like baseline estradiol and how it progresses... I ended up with E2 of 2184 but the day before it was 2074 and they felt it was too high (for me!) and adjusted my meds down. My day 6 was only about 80.4.... so you see how it can vary person to person. It also depends on your protocol. I'm on estrogen primed microdose lupron and the lupron sort of hold things back a bit in the beginning.
@Nikkilegare Looks like you are progressing great!! Sux this process is so expensive!
by the end of my last cycle, I was wearing maternity leggings (from a prior mc) because I was so uncomfortable in my own stuff

For you ladies who have done this before...how long after egg retrieval did you still feel the full/bloated hormones out of control feeling?
I totally spaced on a work conf I'm supposed to be at Feb 6-10. I haven't gotten my specific schedule from the dr yet, but I started bcp's a few days ago and I think I'll start stims around the 23rd-ish. I'm suddenly freaking out I'm going to be driving to the Dallas area a few days after ER and feeling like crap....
ETA- my dr already said we're not doing a fresh transfer so ER is all we're doing this time.

Together Let Us Seek the Heights

  • @CCBrownEyedGirl    10 is great!!! I had 5 on my baseline scan so fingers crossed I'm developing some more.....
  • @juliagooolia719 it really depends.... I've had retrievals that I felt totally fine 2 days later and some where I felt terrible a week after.
  • @JuliaGoolia719 I've only had the 1 ER so far but I felt fine later on that day. I had an abmismally small amount of eggs though so perhaps that had something to do with it (less time dr is fishing around in there maybe?)

@CCBrownEyedGirl Yay for 10 follies! Crazy how our levels are all so different.

@dragonette505 That makes sense. I'm stocked up on Gatorade and protein so fx for no OHSS. I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow!

Yep, leggings are a must. I'm starting to feel bloated and tender now... Yoga pants and sweatshirts have been my uniform for the last few days. Stay hydrated, I hear it reduces the symptoms. I've been chugging coconut water.

*Update: slacks for work no longer fit. I guess safety pins are also a must.

  • @sleepyrnThanks!  And a 30 pound weight loss is a significant achievement- congrats!  My wife managed to lose 5 pounds in the last two weeks, BMI down from 35 to about 34, and our doctor is fine with that.

My wife's baseline ultrasound revealed what might be a cyst on the left.  Once the blood work has been processed, we'll know if it's something that will require a delay, or whether we can go ahead and start stims tonight.

  • Ugh, it seems likely that the little cyst is going to delay us a cycle.  Boo!!!  I feel like we've been waiting so long to get started on this cycle, and my belly is already all marked up with punctures from my lupron injections.

We get another blood test tomorrow, and then we know.

  • It's so great hearing all of your progress, and seeing all the positive thoughts and comments along the way, even if results aren't as optimistic as we hope!

When you guys are on stims, are you still okay to go to work? I know after the ER there is some time off needed, but should I prepare for the stim days too? I don't expect to start stimming until mid/late January.
  • @laurenray91 Stimming is certainly easier if you take time off.... I'm hitting the wall with fatigue right now so it would be nice to be able to get more sleep. But I've done both in the past: most cycles I've worked through, and last cycle I took vaca in the last week, it's fine either way. My suggestion is to save vaca days for when you might need them.... in my case, last cycle I had spare days for the year that wouldn't roll over, so I used them
  • @laurenray91 great question! Curious myself. I'm a work at home mom with an incredibly energetic 3 year old who no longer naps. My MIL is a saint and said she'd help watch my daughter, I said for sure after egg retrieval and embryo transfer I may leave my kiddo over with her for the day, maybe overnight if I need. Curious what others experiences have been. We'll start stims at the end of Jan.
  • It's so great hearing about all the progress a lot of you are making! For those of you who have started, is there anything in particular that you're (or that your doctor has recommended) eating or drinking to help stave off the bloating and chances of OHSS? I remember earlier this year when I was on this board, others were saying that they were chugging vitamin water/gatorade/coconut water to stay extra hydrated, and also eating lots of proteins and salty foods (wouldn't salty foods be counteractive for bloating, though?! lol...) I'm starting to get a little checklist going on what I would need for when i start my stims (hopefully sometime soon!) Also, is anyone using band-aids after the injections?

AFM, my sister mailed my biological mother's cheek swab sample yesterday, so the lab should be getting it sometime today. DH and I got our blood drawn this morning, and my RE's office should overnight it so it'll arrive tomorrow. At 3pm today DH and I have a phone consult with the lab to go over the process/timelines/details/etc about the PGD and PGS procedures, and even though I shouldn't be, I'm beyond nervous. We've been waiting for this consult for basically the last year, and now that it's here, and we (I) know most of what will be said on the call, I'm still waiting for another curve ball to be thrown and we will be put back in limbo! :hushed:

Hope everyone is having a great hump-day so far!
  • Hi All! Joining later than I expected but finally having my baseline check up tomorrow for IVF round #3. New year, same hopes but better attitude <3

I just finished reading Motherhoodwinked by Anne-Marie Scully, her story captured many feelings I'm sure many of us have and are feeling. I've previously read her second book "Five Million Born - An IVF Companion Guide" but didn't think it was as well written as the first one.

Now reading some unrelated fiction for change but next IF book I have on my list is "Empty Womb, Aching Hearth: Hope and help for Those Struggling With Infertility" by Marlo Schalesky.

Anyone else finding help in reading? Book suggestions welcome
    o:)

Sending each of you a big virtual hug and only positive thoughts
    :)

KLake42  :/ for the unexpected delay, fingers x'd for better news
dragonette505 sounds promising, when is your next scan? fx
laurenray91 I've worked through stimming and it was fine, just had to arrange all evening activities around it so that I'd be home to take the shots the same time every night. I have fairly flexible work schedule though and do not know how it would be while working shifts.
caseyw8784 Interesting! I've also heard about gatorade, coconut water and foods high in proteins but wouldn't salty foods indeed make you bloated? I've previously had only low response to stimms and haven't experiences much of bloating. My ER just advised to stay well hydrated, and nope haven't used band-aids after injections (I hate the feeling of ripping them off :p ) Good luck xd

  • @KLake42 I'm hoping they let you continue.  They let me continue with a 24mm cyst on the right ovary.  So far it's just come down in size and not got in the way.

AFM I'm at the point in stims where I get to go in every day for bloodwork/ultrasounds.  I'm hoping for ER some time in the next few days, as I feel like a puff ball.  They had to push super hard on my left to get the ultrasound today since the ovary has decided to hide behind the uterus again, so that was fun.

@caseyw8784 They told me to stay hydrated. I will say I upped how much Gatorade I was drinking and feel much better bloat/nausea-wise.

@laurenray91 I'm on stim day 7 and still feel pretty functional (just really fat haha). I agree about having extra days saved up in case you need them.

  • Just found out I'll be starting my stim meds Friday! So excited! I had 7 follicles on my right ovary. No one can ever see my left. Anyways excited to join"
  • DH and I had the phone consult with the genetics lab yesterday and it was good! Once they get the consent forms back (and notarized...blah! such a pain!) they will start building the set-up which they said would take only 3-4 weeks! that's so much shorter than what i had been told previously (6 weeks) so that made me happy. AF is supposed to come sometime the week after next so my RE said that we can start the BCPs then, and time it so that the ER will be in about 4-5 weeks, to give the lab a few extra days, even though they said the set-up time frame is pretty standard, barring any major unexpected hiccups!

The one sucky thing, that sono HSG that they said i didn't have to do if i didn't want to? I have to do it. Insurance said they won't cover any of it if they don't do a new one. Blah.

So now the majority of my ivf cycle will be in February, but since there's no "February IVF" board yet, I'm still sticking around here
  • Do we have a google docs calendar set up for Jan/Feb IVF?

I got my calendar and I start injections on the 19th. I'll have my baseline on the 17th so hopefully I'll have some follies in there! I'll start estrogen priming on the 10th to recruit some of these pups!

We're definitely being bumped to Feb/Mar, depending on how long we're on birth control, because of the cyst on my wife's ovary.  ::sad trombone::

I'd rather maximize our chances for success, though, so I'm not taking this too hard.  What's crazy is that I stopped estrogen and lupron yesterday (took nothing), and today my weight dropped 5 pounds.  The bloat is real, y'all!!!
