And here I am, half in denial that I am pregnant lol.
We found out on Christmas that we are having another boy! As much as I love having a little girl, I feel like I stuck at being a girl mom (as far as bows, headband, boutique wear goes) and I'm also weird and feel like boys are so much easier to shop for.
I had to empty out some drawers to find a place for my maternity clothes. I guess storing them on the guest bed for the next several months wasn't good enough for my husband. How dare he want me to be neat and tidy.
@chickyclg Yay congrats on a boy! We're having a boy too and while I am so excited to meet little man, I'm still processing that it's a he! I have tons of girl stuff and part of me is like okay time to get started on selling/donating all these pink stuff. My DH ended up talking me down saying well, what is something awful happened? So I've decided to wait until at least 24 weeks aka v-day. We will be moving into our house at that point so I can just use his entire nursery room to just lay everything out by size/style etc and go from there.
I'm going to preface this by saying that I will be asking my OB next appointment, but has anyone experienced a leak in their amniotic fluids? My pregnancy with DD was high risk and partly because of not having enough water around her and the paranoid part of myself is starting to wonder if excess discharge is actually leaking fluids. It's been bugging me for the last week and it's random and probably ridiculous so I'm putting it here.
@chickyclg@pshaortao Congrats on a boy! We're also having another boy and super excited. I can't wait until we're in our new house (yes, we are in escrow again ) to go through S#1's stuff and organize!
DH and I are completely reorganizing DD closet today and adding a cube organizer with fabric bins, can't wait to see how it all comes together! We're also going shopping for some essentials for this little one! Time to stock up on diapers and wipes.
@OmegaRose3 I was having the same thought the last few weeks! I've had to wear pantyiners everyday or my underwear is gross. I had convinced myself that I was leaking fluid. I asked my doctor to check for a yeast infection or BV at my last appointment since realistically that made more sense than leaking fluid. A day later they call, yep a yeast infection. I'm starting to see a small decrease in discharge now after meds.
@OmegaRose3 Slow leak of amniotic fluid is an unlikely reason to have too little fluid but if you're ever worried, OB triage (or midwife if you're outside the hospital system) can do a test to check if it's pee / discharge / amniotic fluid. Super simple. Not a perfect test, but can certainly help as you get closer to your EDD. (This early you're unlikely to have leaking amniotic fluid unless you have an abnormal cervix - or have a cerclage - or are having other signs of preterm labor - contractions, bloody mucus discharge aka the mucus plug).
@rkstro2 I need to make some room for maternity clothes, too. I'm thinking I might move some stuff I'm currently not wearing into the unused guest dresser upstairs.
@mrsfox888 I love reorganizing! Hubbs is going to paint our to-be nursery this coming month, and then we'll get to work on buying stuff we need. I also need to clean out the closet, though, cause we've been using it as extra storage.
This is random, but I'm currently eating the richest cake ever. My parents make it once a year for Christmas, and only once a year because it's just so extravagant. It's an Italian Cream Cake recipe that my grandma used to make. It's 3-tiered, with soft, fluffy white cake with coconut, and a cream cheese frosting with pecans in between all the layers and around the outside. I can only eat a piece a half inch thick at a time. So good.
And a complete random, I can not for the life of me figure out how to put the kids Amazon Fires into kids mode. I had to put them down since I wanted to chunk them across the room.
We currently live in a small two-bedroom apartment. DD got so many new toys yesterday that I don't know where to put them! I need to go through all of her current stuff and get rid of a ton in order to fit the new stuff. What happened to being the mean person who gave the kids clothes?!?
@OmegaRose3 I agree with @mdlorenz about a simple test but it's definitely not perfect like she said. I would probably prefer an ultrasound over that. I only say this because the day my water broke with DD, I came to L&D and they wouldn't officially admit me until the test passed. Well.. the test failed somehow but I was clearly having very regularly strong contractions and leaking fluid. When they finally checked me, I was at 6cm already. Bless the nurse that set me up with the epidural in spite of protocols.
I change my pantieliner about twice a day if that help.
@mdlorenz@pshaortao I might just ask to be sure, I never found out what caused me to have low fluids with DD and I swear the discharge sometimes feels like I flooded downstairs so it's definitely started to make me wonder if there's something wring with my cervix that might cause that
Anyone here a big photography buff? I've been really wanting to buy a DSLR camera before LO arrives, and now with some Christmas money, I'm considering it. I'm looking for some tips on brand/model to buy. I've obviously found lots of websites that have great reviews, but interested to see if anyone here has any opinions. I'm basically a photography newb, so I need something that can point and shoot out of the box, but would LOVE to learn how to take really high-quality pictures.
My anatomy scan is not till the fifth and I can't wait. Lol. Also got a bunch of destination maternity gift cards for Christmas which was nice. Got a dress for the office Christmas party today (my company is very frugal so they have those in January).

@ShadeofGreen816 my H knows more about photography than me but we wanted something we could both use, especially for kiddo pics. We purchased a canon EOS rebel T6i and looooove it. It's easy enough for me to use (as I take all of our son's monthly pics) and for him to use on his projects. He bought different lenses for it but he showed me which one to use for our son's "posing" pics and I basically turn it on and am good! He did lots of research and we bought it right after our son was born in July 2015 (as we too came into some cash around that time).
@ShadeofGreen816 this sounds exactly like me, I will be totally following your responses. I have no photography experience at all but have a desire to take better pictures than I tend to snap with my iPhone.
@ShadeofGreen816 I'm so behind on what the latest models are but definitely a basic intro DSLR with a good 60mm (I think?) lens. If you have friends with either a Nikon or Canon you should ask to try them. A lot of people are very one or the other. I personally have a Nikon D5000 and chose that since i was already used to Nikon
@ShadeofGreen816 I have a Pentax K5, and I love it!! I am a photographer, so I do use a lot of the different settings to get the best image possible. At the same time, if I set it in automatic mode my husband, who is by no means a photographer, can still get some decent shots in! I like the Pentax brand because the image stabilization is in the camera, rather than the lens (which is more common in DSLRs). That means that you can use older lenses from film SLRs, which are often MUCH cheaper than newer lenses, while still having great quality. Your camera will come with a "kit lens," but a better lens can make your photos much better. (Or, if you end up really getting into photography, many lenses for different uses )
Oh, also, steve's digicams is a good website! They have a lot of reviews of different cameras and lenses. They also have forums based on camera brand, so you could see the types of photos people have taken with different brands of cameras! (Of course, a lot of photography is skill, but you get more out of your skill with the proper tools!)

I feel the same as you! We found out that we are team blue this time around and I am still processing it's a boy. I am kinda sad that I won't be able to use all of DD's clothes again. I've been very diligent in carefully packing each size clothes away over the last three years. I do have a sister/brother in law we can give everything to, so that makes me feel better.
I do have to to say that I am super excited to have a son. The preppy little boy clothes are so cute and I can't wait to see if he will look my husband. My DD is my mini me, so I think it will be so fun if my hubby gets his mini me too!
@Icarriedawatermelon I'm glad you have the perfect people to give the clothes too! My sister doesn't want kids (at least not anytime soon) and my closest friends and in laws are not at that point in their lives yet. I definitely don't want to hold on to the clothes waiting for someone to get KU with a girl. Oh well. But you know what? It's fun shopping for new clothes! I just went to Target this evening to check out the Christmas clearance and then went over and looked at baby boys clothes. They actually had a bunch of stuff at 50% (some stores are still 30%), plus an extra 20% off (clearance apparel) on cartwheel so I was able to get several onesies for the summer. DD was born in Sept so a lot of her neutral stuff probably won't fit during the right seasons anyways.
@chickyclg@pshaortao@Icarriedawatermelon - I am so scared that I will be in the same (but opposite) boat as you guys. I REALLY wanted DS to be a girl, but now I am definitely hoping for a second boy. We are TEAM GREEN, and I will be thrown for a loop if I find out I baked up a girl. : l
I am all in for the surprise and really looking forward to it, but I am a smidge envious that y'all at least have time to adjust.
Ladies. I would like to send a virtual hug to everyone who had (has) extreme morning sickness. I caught a Christmas stomach bug, and while I'm fine now, I don't know how I would have survived more than one day (Like 13 weeks!?!) of that agony. You are stronger than I! disclaimer: I had queasiness that cleared up fairly quickly both pregnancies. So I bow before your glory!!
@ShadeofGreen816 let me know what you decide with regards to your DSLR. I was a newbie and bought a Nikon D5200. It was easy to learn, has great features and it takes awesome (professional) photos. I recently grew out of it and have bought a higher version and am thinking of selling my old one. I also like Nikon because you can use any of the older lenses and they will work with the newer cameras.
So today is my first day back to work since last Wednesday, and I won't go into details but the head of the clinic I work for has been trying lately to exert his power in ways that make no sense to supporting the clinicians (me) in the horribly hard work that we do (therapy), and I get a note in my mailbox this morning that I am no longer allowed to work my current schedule, and that in order to fix it according to his liking, I'll have to work later on Thursday's until 6:30, when I already work til 7 on Wednesday. And all I could literally do is cry. I am about .2 seconds away from quitting, if it wasn't for the great health insurance and benefits (I'm a county employee). I have to keep reminding myself that I cannot let him get me upset because I need to be calm and relaxed for this baby. If I could get away with it, I'd totally key his BMW.
@Jen_Shoes i'm sorry! I had a horrible boss when I worked for a University that eventually drove me to quite leaving behind amazing benefits! Then he ended up getting fired a couple weeks later. Hang in there, those kind of bosses always get what's coming to them!!

I was only able to breastfeed DD for about a month
when she was born. She just turned 3 this month.
I'm now 22 weeks and have been leaking fluid here
and there (colostrum?) for the past few days. Not enough to warrant a nursing
pad but enough for me to feel it. Could it already be colostrum or the
beginning stages of it? I didn't think so but it has that sweet smell that I
remember it having with DD.... I know leaking happens, but I wasn't expecting
it until well into the 30s week wise. anyone else had experienced this that
wasn't recently nursing?
@Jenshoes - I'm sorry that happened! Sounds like he is a major jerk! Is there no talking to him, or someone else? The fact that he would change your schedule without talking to you about it seems really wrong.
@BeachMommy2B - Sounds like colostrum and very normal. Some women start leaking as early as 7-8 weeks pregnant.

@rkstro2 I'm contemplating taking a day of vacation on Friday to organize my closet and rotate my maternity clothes into the mix. As of last night, most of them are on the bed in my guest bedroom. Between that, picking up Christmas, and beginning the monstrous task of starting to clean out the new baby's room, I probably need at least 3 days of vacation.
For those of you with the kid's kindle, I highly recommend trying to figure out the kid settings. My 2 year old has made several pricey downloads that weren't covered by Amazon prime.
We're team green right now. My anatomy scan isn't until 1/12. I cannot decide if I should hold off on setting up the nursery until after he or she arrives or do something neutral. If we have a girl, I really want to go girly. My mom will be newly retired so she is willing to help. The planner in me thinks it makes more sense just to find out. Really trying to stick with being surprised.
