*Update* I'm officially a mama! I posted in the announcement thread, but I thought I'd share my birth story here.
They gave me cytotech (spelling?) to help get things going instead of pitocin. When I last updated around noon, I was only 1 cm. The midwife and nurses thought I would progress slowly with being a FTM, so they were not too concerned. Everyone seriously thought Ella would stay put for at least another day.
Throughout the rest of the afternoon my contractions started picking up, but they only felt like a 5 or 6 on the pain scale so the nurses weren't too concerned *Side note, my 5s and 6s felt more like my regular period cramps because I've always had bad cramping so I was probably not the best to gauge the pain lol.*
My contractions started to get really bad around 4:00 where I was thinking like 8 or 9 so the nurses called the midwife in to check my progress for an epidural.
Well, the midwife came in around 4:30 and was very surprised when she checked me and I was fully dilated! Obviously, there was no time to get an epidural, so I had to do everything med free.
The rest of the staff came very quickly to my room to prep Ella for the NICU upon her arrival. My H was standing outside the room on the phone and saw a bunch of staff running and didn't realize it was our room and then had his "oh shit" moment haha and came back to our room.
After about 20 minutes of pushing Ella was born! I got to hold her for a few minutes and then she was whisked away to the NICU to make sure she was ok. So far she is doing fantastic and breathing on her own without oxygen! We weren't sure how her breathing would be with being only 34 weeks and only 1 steroid shot (the next one was scheduled for later tonight).
I'm still kind of in shock (in a good way) with how quickly things escalated but I'm so happy that she is doing so well for her age. The doctors think she may only have to stay in the NICU for a week or two, even as little as four to five days if she keeps up her amazing progress!
As as far as pumping goes, I've only been able to get a few drops of milk, but the nurses reassured me that this is totally fine and it will take a while to produce anything significant.
Like holy crap, what a day! From my water breaking at 1:30 AM to Ella being born at 5:00 PM. This mama is ready to get some rest lol.
I just wanted to thank all of you ladies for the amazing support throughout my journey and I'm hoping everyone else can keep their LOs in for as long as possible!
Oh my @ColeBug89 I can only hope my contractions will stay somewhat mild for a while lol. What a story!! Congratulations again! I'm so happy to hear baby Ella is expected to be released from NICU in as little as 5 or so days. Get your rest mama, you'll be needing it.
Wow congrats! Sounds like Ella is a NICU rockstar and will be out of there in no time. My 34 weeker only had an 11 day stay but he was on CPAP for 24hrs so Ella sounds like she's already got a head start. Thinking of you guys and sending good vibes!
Congratulations! So happy for you and to hear how well little Ella is doing. You give me a lot of hope for my LO if we can make it to induction at 34 weeks. Here's hoping for a short and uneventful nicu stay!
