It's so quiet in here! I know we are all busy around the holidays doing lots of exciting things. So, what fun have you been having this weekend?

Re: GTKY: Weekend Fun?

  • It is -30 degrees here in Minnesota, so we drove around and admired animated Christmas lights yesterday. Today we went to brunch with my best friend and her family.

  • We had a fun filled busy weekend! Took DD to look at Christmas lights Saturday night. Today we did all of our Christmas shopping for our secret santa on DH side. We went to Kmart, carters and target and got this LO a few things. Now we're home relaxing!

  • I'm going to live vicariously through the FTM's weekends!

Toddler gymnastics, packing to go see family, dropping off recycling, and an indoor kid's playplace was my weekend.

  • Two 12-hour shifts wrangling crazy ICU patients for me! But I'm off until Friday, so there's that!
  • Etsy rules my life lately. But I shipped out my last bunch of Christmas orders. Hopefully I will have some peace and quiet with that for a little bit.
I haven't done any Christmas shopping so that's on my to do list on Thursday.
  • Shopping, birthday party, and preparing house for Christmas Eve gathering.  Busy!
  • Friday we took DD (1.5) to see Santa in the mall for the first time ever and get the last of our shopping done, she did great and now we have some really precious pictures. Saturday DD and I went to a Christmas party where I very sadly drank my water instead of fancy wine and watched DD play with another toddler close in age and nearly stick her finger up my friend's cat's butthole...poor thing, at least the cat was a good sport. And today I am watching Christmas movies and finally got stamps to send out our family cards.
    Not a bad weekend overall.
  • @CherryBananas those cookies look so good.

We had or family Christmas dinner on Friday since half the family is leaving for Mexico this Thursday. Then we got to spend yesterday stuck indoors due to icy weather and freezing temps. Cabin fever hit us today, after just one day

  • @CherryBananas Cute cookies!

Dh and I went to see Straight No Chaser Saturday and then spent some time downtown Chicago eating and such. Today finished up the nursery closet organizer, washed and organized clothes and then binged Elementary while eating no-bake cookies for dinner. Somewhat productive yet lazy weekend. Was great!
  • SWE2 Wow! You're far along in the nursery! Our nursery is still currently a cat/storage room...

  • @CherryBananas - I am seriously impressed with your cookie decorating skills. Also, they look delicious! Sometimes, pretty cookies don't taste very good, which is useless. Those look like the best of both worlds!

We had a pretty low key weekend. It was insanely cold, so there was much snuggling and playing with DS. We did venture out to meet Santa for the first time. DS was very suspicious of the man and gave him some serious baby side-eye. It was amazing. He's definitely my kid.

  • Thanks for the cookie-love ladies! They are really delicious. It's an old Betty Crocker sugar cookie recipe from like, the 70's. If anyone wants a new recipe to try I'd be happy to share it.

@SWE2 how was the concert? I have some of their Christmas music in rotation on my phone.

  • @WombThereItIs I'm with you on living vicariously through FTMs. Weekends are fun because it's the only time I get a full day with DS,  but I definitely miss the days of doing whatever the heck I want all weekend long.

This weekend was actually pretty good. It snowed a bunch on Friday night so we played in the snow Saturday and then DS tried hot chocolate for the first time and obviously loved it. While he napped I got crazy ambitious and make four batches of cookies and four batches of dough for a different kind of cookie as well as saltine toffees.

Sunday we did Christmas because we're flying to the East Coast to visit the in laws for actual Christmas and I didn't want to bring all the boxes my family sent for DS. It was SO fun watching DS open presents and then he was occupied for most of the morning playing with his new toys. Sunday night I did a lot more baking and got boxes of cookies together for co-workers. I wish I could say I'm done baking but I have a few more batches of cookies left.
  • @WombThereItIs , @RainyDays86 , I'm with the 2 of you living vicariously through those not chasing around kiddos on the weekend. DH and I joke that it's almost more work being home on the weekends than our actual work week. BUT, of course, we love spending the time with DS on the weekends.

Saturday, we braved an intense snowstorm for DS's swim class--we had to do something--sitting around all day in our PJs watching movies just doesn't work with a 2 year old and our car is good in the snow. The little guy played in the snow and helped daddy shovel, it was adorable. Sunday, we went to an indoor play place with another mom/toddler friend pre-nap. Post-nap, we went to a toddler indoor ropes course at this weird furniture store that also has a Bellagio-style water show AND an ice cream shop. So...basically a whole weekend revolving around entertaining the toddler. :-)

  • DH gave me the newest cricut for my birthday so I spent most of Saturday messing with that then We had a Christmas Party Saturday night at my in laws. Sunday morning we went out for Brunch because I have been craving Eggs Benedict then I laid on the coach all afternoon- so much Christmas prep to do and I have zero motivation!
  • @KMD1106 Thanks but other than that we haven't done much. I'm naturally a planner so I can't wait to get more. Have to wait for the painters to come in January before buying any of the big stuff.

@CherryBananas They were amazing! I didn't know they didn't just sing Christmas songs. Was very funny and they did a lot of current songs which was great. It was our first time going and I will definitely be going again.
  • We went to the discovery Cube on Saturday with my sister and her twins (10 yr old). DS is 16 months and was fascinated. It's like a science center, you can touch and play with EVERYTHING so it's a meca for kids. I bought a membership so we can go back!

I took yesterday off and we went to the mountains for the day to play in the snow. There wasn't much but it was DS first time actually PLAYING in snow. We go every year for the day and he was only 4 months old last year so this year was totally different for him. It was fucking cold, but we survived.

Tonight we are having family dinner and walking around a certain neighborhood that is famous for their Christmas lights. Super excited...DS is super into lights right now!!
