I had gestational diabetes with #1.
Wondering what you other momma's are trying to do this time around. What are you eating? How are you eating? Have you already started testing your sugar?
Last time I drank a ton of unsweetened tea to add flavor.. but since her, I've had kidney stones that they relate to the tea (I disagree. The birth control they put me on I'd never been on. When I'd start back on the pills following period pills, I'd get a kidney stone. Not one kidney stone while pregnant.... I blame the pill! However I'm not risking it. Those are worse than labor!)
So I've switched to mostly water and diet pop when I need it. I've attempted to cut back on breads this week.. but it's my weakness!

I also had GD in a past pregnancy and ended up losing the baby at 30 weeks (unknown reasons)
Currently I'm 17 weeks and was told last week to start testing my blood sugars. During the day they are perfect (70-90s) but my fasting has been above 90 most days (96 highest). I am watching my diet, walking 30 mins most nights, and having a high protein snack before bed. Any suggestions?
I had GD with my last pregnancy, and was very sad when I was put on insulin. But to be honest, having a fasting number of 96 was the magic number for me for them to raise my insulin (I think I had to have a couple 96+s in a row, or maybe it was because they already knew we were chasing my numbers the whole pregnancy).. and then my fasting would be under control, and eventually I'd be up to 96 or higher again and they'd raise my insulin.
Thank God for insulin. I gave birth to a perfectly health 7lb 4oz girl. I was never going to be able to manage my GD with diet, I did zumba everyday and balanced my carbs with my protein so well, but my placenta was a bully...
Good luck to you. Call your dr. and stay on top of it.
Also, I know it sounds counter-intuitive. But I think you should also be have a carb with your protein before bed. Like a greek yogurt or something (I used to do half a banana and almond butter). If your carbs drop low during the night, it causes your body to break down reserves for sugar, which may be resulting in the elevated number in the morning.
Anyhoo I'm doing the opposite, I'm under the assumption I'm going to get it so I've been eating whatever and whenever I want on the carb range (still trying to eat semi health conscious as well) because I'm sure I'll be cut off the next month or so.
