Re: UO Thursday 12/8/16

  • Oh!  I have been waiting all week for this!  I can't stand the song Santa Baby.  I've been listening to holiday music all week, and this song makes me cringe.

@mecoats I'll gladly be the first to set fire to this thread. I don't like 95% of the Christmas music out there, traditional or pop! The only one I sincerely like is "Oh Holy Night", even though it's somber. It's just really pretty. But all the other ones are so overplayed to me, and I've had to listen to them for 30 holiday seasons, with no end in sight.

I'll play them for my children and even go caroling if that's something we want to do as a family. But I don't willingly listen to Christmas music out of personal enjoyment.
  • @mecoats I also hate baby it's cold outside...I don't care if you don't think it sounds like date rape but it still always gave me that creepy vibe.
  • @dubcompanion - I LOVE holiday music, but there are definitely songs that are WAYYYYY over played (ie Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You).  I am more into the traditional songs...Silent Night, O Holy Night...and generally can take most of the people who sing them.

@Spartanrd4 - Agree Baby It's Cold Outside is another cringeworthy song.  I also agree with @Gators&BoSox in that I usually take it as a song of new love....but the song is very suggestive.  ha ha

Also Gators - don't be mad, but I don't think I've ever seen a Die Hard movie!   :#

  • haha @mecoats you're definitely missing out! but Bruce Willis is one of my faves so I might be partial. He kind of reminds me of my dad lol
  • @npaulie I know what you mean. They're not doing anything wrong; it's just kind of awkward. But hey, if they jump in and become active enough, that's cool. It's only odd to me when they make an effort to post on the intro board and then only sparingly contribute. What's the point...?
  • @Mccolpitts - I hate Green Beans period, so I'm right there with you.  My reasoning is because when I was younger my parents made me GAG them down even though I tried them and didn't like them.  They got cold and disgusting.  I just can't do it!  Good luck with making it and bringing it to your holiday party.

  • I am another on the Die hard is a Christmas movie train...you can't have Christmas with out Hans Gruber in my opinion.
  • Don't know if this is a UO or not. I bought some winter maternity clothes from Old Navy. Virtually all shirts were striped shirts. Who says all pregnant women lime stripecd shirts? Not me! Then all long sleeved shirts wre scoop neck which is always wrong for me. Yes, i bought a striped scoop neck shirt from Old Navy because it was about being cost effective. But, dang, this scoop neck is low! I guess pregnant women need to expose their bras?
  • @npaulie I agree, I don't really get the point of joining late.

For me, the main benefit of this board was in the first trimester when I had a zillion questions/things to talk about but my pregnancy was a secret in the real world.  At this point, I ask most of my questions to moms in my real life and I just like the community that developed here.  If I were going to join something at this stage, it would be a local moms group.  But that's just me.
  • @disneybaby84 i HATE how low the old navy maternity tops are . They are ridiculous but if I can get their stuff at a good price I'll do it still.
  • @Mccolpitts Yes! Green bean casserole haters unite! That ish is so gross. Between the cream of mushroom soup and the dried onion things on top...gag me! Thankfully that's one traditional holiday dish that has never been on our table growing up!

@npaulie YES! I totally agree, I don't see the point in joining at this stage either.

My UO this week is that I don't like Starbucks. Especially this time of year since I work right next door to one, and people are getting crazier & nastier in the parking lot/drive thru. They yell at each other and cause accidents because it gets too congested. Ugh. I'll never understand how people can pay $5+ on a single drink, I don't care how good they think it tastes. I personally never thought much of their drinks, especially don't like the taste of their coffee. I have to go there this week to buy a gift card for a coworker for a Secret Santa gift exchange and I'm dreading it/contemplating sending someone else to go for me.

  • @serenity13 I am with you on Starbucks. For some reason I find it pretentious that they can't call their sizes small, medium and large. On occasion I go with coworkers just to go for the walk sometimes, and I order a "small" decaf and they always correct me "Tall Decaf".  A co-worker once wrote down her drink order since I said I would get her something. It was like a paragraph with extra this, no that, skinny this and no whip.
  • @serenity13 I'm with you on Starbucks too -- and I'm also one of those ridiculous people who regularly pays $5 for a really good coffee or espresso drink.  Starbucks is terrible, though.  It baffles me that so many people can stomach that stuff!  I'm a total coffee snob and it's cool if you're not, but why would you then pay the same amount for sugary gross burned tasting crap? Especially now that I'm watching my caffeine intake and really savoring my lattes, it blows my mind that Starbucks does so well.
  • Jumping on the Starbucks band wagon: Maybe I'm just not that classy, by my favorite coffe to buy out is seriously Dunkin Donuts,  McCafe, and Sheets. (in that order). Like, thats what I by at the grocery store), lol.

  • My OU is that I dislike baby/kids clothes that have characters on them. I don't know what it is or why this is.

With that  said I will also admit I've given in to this with my 3 year old just so he will get dressed without a fight!
  • UO: I don't like coffee at all.

@ccook1211 I'm with you on that. But I give in and let my daughter wear her Mickey/Minnie mouse shirts just to avoid a fight about clothing every so often.

  • @ccook1211 I do too! I love Disney characters... at Disney. I'm dreading having a million characters/branded toys and baby clothes all over our house and baby. We have friends who a long time ago did I think Waldorf school and had zero of that stuff in the house, which looked awesome, but the kids were also SO out of touch and had a really hard time transitioning to public schools mid-elementary school. So I have a feeling at some point I'm going to have to give in and get over it.

@DrillSergeantCat bahahah. Epic. I also am not a fan of the clothes with phrases or the like... but I guess if you are gonna do it, go all out?? --id totally be side eyeing most of these if you were in public with them on your child.
  • @longliveregina all I can say is she's a desperate attention whore and doesn't care if the attention is positive or negative. She has stated numerous times that she loves the looks she gets when her boys are out in their matching "My mom is the shit" shirts. She also likes to talk about how polite and respectful they are, yet they know what a ho is and use it in context.

  • @DrillSergeantCat all the nopes. All the nope gifs. All the nopes.
ESPECIALLY to teaching a young boy it's acceptable to use "ho."

Wow. Sounds like you have a real classy kinda friend.

And @babyspice agree!! Push presents are cute-I wish my SO would be so thoughtful, but i would never ever dream of telling him about getting me one. If I did and he bought me something it wouldn't mean anything. Even though I'm super jealous of the mamas that get them ;)
  • @babyspice - AGREED! That was the first thing one of my coworkers said when I came out about being pregnant with twins was that DH would have to get me two push presents. I was like - uh - I'm pretty sure the present at the end of the pushing are the babies! Now, my husband has mentioned that he wants to get me something to commemorate the time in our lives and if he wants to do that then I think its sweet, but I am not expecting anything and find the whole idea ridiculous!

  • In these most recent posts, my naivety has really come to light.

A ) I didn't realize there was such a thing as "push" presents. We're not rich, so I guess that's not appealing to me, due to the fact I want as much money saved for our baby as possible! Thus, if DH presented me with a gift after giving birth, I'd probably be like, "Cool, a diamond necklace? Can we pawn that for her piano lessons in a few years?" (If he simply bought flowers or a small cute trinket, that'd be fine. It still wouldn't have been necessary though, and I won't be so much as mentioning a push present anyway.)

B ) What exactly is a fuckgirl? ... 95% of the women I know aren't virgins; therefore, are we considered fuckgirls because we...? ::various hand gestures::
I don't really know what a fuckgirl is. I think it's supposed to be the female equivalent of a fuckboy. If I'm up-to-date on the lingo, a fuckboy is just basically 2016's version of a douchebag.

UO- I think its weird that some women expect/tell there partner to get them a "push present". I mean it's cool and all if your SO decides to give you a gift of their own initiative no matter what the timing /event is but it's strange that it's now a thing that some are expecting. Maybe it's just me but it means so much more when you're gifted something without the entitlement aspect of it.
    Preach!

  • I learned about push presents from Real Housewives of Orange County
  • @DrillSergeantCat I think the biggest problem I have with those shirts is not so much what they say (which I'll say some of them are appalling), but it's mostly the fact that this person comes across as über conservative, but then will turn around and make shirts like that. She reminds me of a woman l work with who claims to be all religious and conservative and loves to quote the Bible, but will be the first to spread malicious gossip and curse like a sailor. It's like, which one is it lady?!
